Swiped in Savannah is the twelfth book in Hope Callaghan’s awesome Made in Savannah Cozy Mystery series. This fast-paced book is well plotted, with an intriguing mystery that kept me turning the pages and guessing until the final reveal, which came as a surprise to me. Ms. Callaghan has written an intriguing mystery, with a great storyline, well developed affable characters, humor, and compassion. The writing style flows smoothly, and this is an easy read, which doesn’t contain any gratuitous sex, graphic violence, or adult language. I highly recommend all the books written by this author to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.
When Tony Garlucci, Carlita’s middle son, married her tenant, Shelby, the newlyweds and Shelby’s young daughter, Violet, moved into the large apartment above Ravello’s Italian Eatery, Carlita’s restaurant, leaving Carlita with two vacant apartments. She rented Shelby’s two-bedroom apartment to Autumn Winter, a family friend, but hasn’t had any luck renting Tony’s efficiency. Shelby hasn’t been feeling well, and a trip to her doctor brings sad news to the Garlucci family. Tourist season is winding down and Carlita’s concerned about the lack of customers patronizing Ravello’s. Their pawnshop, Savannah Swag, however, is turning a nice profit. Elvira Cobb, Carlita’s troublesome ex-tenant and neighbor, has landed a security gig guarding the Cotswold Georgian Exhibit at Darbylane Museum. Not only did Elvira omit some important information on her application, but she also hired a young homeless woman who she knows is lying about her identity to work for one of her companies, EC Security Services. When a valuable picture is stolen from the museum, it came as no surprise to Carlita that Elvira and her sister, Dernice, who has a criminal record, became suspects. Elvira coerces Carlita into helping her; the plan backfires, making Carlita a suspect.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Senior sleuth Carlita hunch is that something wasn’t sitting right, especially with Elvira, her annoying neighbor and former tenant. Carlita has her hands full with her tenants, businesses, family, friends, and now a list of suspects. A well-crafted, page turning, intriguing, and nicely paced mystery with a touch of romance and tasty recipe for Creamy Chicken Milano. In Swiped in Savannah Hope Callaghan weaves previous characters and points of interest, adds new characters (homeless gal) and conflicts, appreciation for the arts – both visual and print, crime of a stolen painting, exhibits, food festivals, an adorable puppy, and a Princess Cottage complete with magic flowers and fairy dust. Humor, intrigue and romance makes Swiped in Savannah a delightful read.
When Carlitta Garlucci gets a reopening tour of the exhibition of art at the local museum she is happy to take it. Even though her nemesis Elvira is the one inviting her. As fate would have it, there is a robbery and Carlitta is drawn into middle. Elvira manages to cause problems without trying. In trying to prove she is not guilty Carlitta and her family and friends get into situations both numerous and scary. Carlitta always gets her "man".
I can't get enough of this author! Her writing makes you feel as though you are right there in the story. I love how she captures real landmarks, organizations, and events in her stories. That just makes them even more believable! I love also how she touches on relevant issues within our current Society. Her Mysteries are always fun, clever, and keep me guessing until the end. Because of her books I really want to visit Savannah, Georgia one day!
Yes it's a 3 not because the series is bad or the plot isn't enjoyable but because it's fluff. It's about an hour or so a book with no depth of characters and easy to figure out. You can laugh at some of the antics but you never really get a feel for a deep probing mystery. It's all surface. So get the book to just read it when you need something brainless to pass the time and enjoy reading. It's better than a comic.
I’ve read so man of the books in this series and enjoyed every one! In book 12, Elvira manages to get Carlita involved in one of her messes again! Elvira’ security company is providing security for a special exhibit at the museum, and the first night, an expensive painting is sold. She asks Carlita to check our a storage room, and Carlita is caught on camera. The Garlucci family is such an interesting group of characters, and Elvira provides a lot of laughs and crises! Always a great read!
Hope Callaghan has written another fast paced mystery that keeps you guessing! I love the little hints of romances brewing while clues abound for the latest crime! By the way, you'll laugh out loud when Elvira finally gets what she deserves! You've got a front row seat with a perfect view! I guarantee you'll be smiling even after the story ends!!!!!
A picture is stolen from the museum, and thanks to Elvira, Carlita's former tenant, she finds herself in hot water again.
The Savannah series, Mary be my favorite one of Hope Callaghan 's cost mysteries. Enough plots and turns to keep you interested with a little, humor, family drama, and a touch of romance. Love the information about Savannah 's river district.
Surprise! Elvira shows compassion for a homeless young woman she found Dumpster diving behind a museum. Unfortunately, this bit of selflessness could get the Garlucci family in deep trouble when a costly painting Elvira's security service was guarding. Elvira and Carlita become prime respects in this latest book from gifted writer Hope Callaghan.
I'm no Elvira fan but I enjoy reading the shenanigans she gets Carlita into! This was another great addition to the series. I had an inkling of who did it but it turned out to be the tip of the iceberg! I'm sure the next part of the series will be just as fabulous!
I really enjoyed reading this Savannah mystery book. I love this series! The characters are likable & fun. The storyline is easy to follow & I love the way Hope writes! She really pulls you into the story & you are drawn into the lives of her characters. Can’t wait for the next book!
I have been waiting to read this book and it was Great!
Carlita, Mercedes, are involved in another mystery thanks to crazy neighbor and ex-tenant Elvira. It brings in some of the friends and family members to help solve the mystery and clear up another mess that Elvira and Dernice's Security business creates. Now I can't wait for the next Savannah mysyery.
I have enjoyed every book in the made in Savannah cozy mystery series. Both Carlita and Mercedes are so full of adventure and getting to the truth in each and every book. As always the recipes included are very Italian and sound wonderful. Another great job Hope Callaghan.
Another great reading experience. This book was not quite as gritty and mafia influenced as the last one. However, it was quite exciting. There’s always mention of the mafia several times in each story and this one was no different. It’s a good enhancement to the reading enjoyment! Great story!
Hope Callaghan had dinner it again with Swiped in Savannah. with Savannah being my favorite City I can just envision this book taking place. I felt for the character Astrid and at the same time wondered if she might be the culprit. I just may have said too much there so you need to read it to find the rest.
Here we go again with more adventures or misadventures, this time focusing on Elvira continuing to make life miserable for Carlita and Mercedes. The plot is witty, the storyline intriguing leaving the reader to see if he or she can out guess the writer as to whodunit. Highly recommended for all mystery lovers.
I love this whole series.I ?like the depth the depth that the author adds to every character since you first met them. I also love the way your feelings change about some of the more annoying .characters. A missing museum painting a new character called Astrid and I hope Roman e for mercedes
Carlita gets involved in an art theft thanks to neighbor Elvira. Trying to deal with the restaurant business slowing down, her daughter in law's health, and her daughters new romance doesn't leave much time for Elvira's shenanigans.
I love Hope Callaghan books. She has a knack for putting ordinary folks into extraordinary situations. Savannah is a favorite city with its beautiful squares and special architecture.
I can't wait to see what the family gets into next if you love a great cozy with characters you will love and a story that keeps you turning the page then this series by Hope Callaghan is a must read
Another page-turner from Hope Callaghan. I was looking in the wrong direction, this time. I appreciate a good surprise. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Again Carlita and family are engrossed in the happenings in Savannah. Love the continuing interaction of all the previous characters. The outcome is not expected and kept me reading till the end.
This is another awesome instalment in the Made in Savannah series. Elvira continues to make me laugh out loud. The other new characters were good ones too. The mystery was also interesting. Can't wait to read the next one.
I LOVE the plot twist in this one, especially! How Elivra, the pain in Carlita’s side, gets it this time, and then Carlita and Mercedes save her! Well done, Hope!
Another page turner. The artsy fartsy world is in focus in this story about an art theft, with Elvira succeeding in getting all tangled up in a mess and taking Carlita with her.
I can't wait for the next one. I love the Savannah Series. It is well written and humorous. I was so happy ☺☺when Elvira was zapped. I can't wait for the next one.
