One Year

Rate this book
As the front man and founder of the metal band, Sweet Mercy, I lived a life most men (and women) dreamt about. Booze, women, parties, sex and drugs. Everything that I wanted and things I didn’t even know I needed, were mine for the taking. No one ever told me not to take things for granted, no one ever told me that my life would explode after one fateful night. Now I’m struggling to make it through the day and staying awake all night fighting off my demons.
But then she came crashing into my life, totally unexpected. A friend tells me that I need a year to fix myself. One year to find the real me behind all the sex, drugs and women.

So here

I’ve got one year to fix all that I've broken, including myself.
One year to mend broken fences and repair burned bridges, but it might take a lifetime.
One year to find what was lost.
One year to deserve all the love and adoration I see in her eyes each and every day.

That's all I need, just one year. Right?

M.A. Stone has been writing and making up stories ever since she was a little girl and she got her Sesame Street coloring books taken away for filling them with dirty words. She was born and raised in Upstate NY(which oddly makes her sound like she is from Wisconsin)and has moved around all over the east coast. She currently lives in South Central PA with her amazingly sarcastic husband and her four incredibly entertaining children. Oh and her dog who weighs over 90 pounds, but thinks she is a Shi Tzu.

I seriously don't know where or how to start this review of this heartwrenchingly, heartbreaking written book.
First off let me say I love the way Melissa writes a story...she draws you in and doesn't let go until the last word is written on the page. I have loved her books from book one of the Drawn Series. And ladies and gents you get some characters and crossover from that series in this one. You don't necessarily have to read the Drawn Series but I would highly recommend it. It's brilliantly done too.
Gridley Colville is the front man for the band Sweet Mercy. He is everything you expect from a RockStar....you know alcoholic, drugs, hot sex on a stick, and so much more. An attitude to prove it too. Tragedy strikes while doing a tour for the army and singing to the troops. Lands him in a rehab hospital where he meets a physical therapists by the name Rosalee. That is only part of the beginning....he's dealing with a load of stuff from his childhood, adulthood and PTSD. The alcohol is getting out of control. It's definitely atrocious what has been done to him and when it comes to light it will sicken you and make you weep, I sure did. Let's just say he's spiraling and not in a good way. It's pretty awful really and his solution thank gosh didn't work. A broken beam, dining table and a passed out Gridley is the results. Then a little one named Aggie. So precious....

Rosalee comes into the picture again later....she is going to be his physical therapists and sober companion. It's either going to be a nightmare or the best thing ever to happen to both. In my opinion it was a LOT of both. This is a long journey well not really it's taken place within a year or a little bit more. I loved Rosalee's character she puts up with a bunch of crap from everyone in my opinion. Even when it's not intentional it still blows my mind how much she endures. Just love her especially for Gridley.

DO NOT get me started on Nap (Napoleon) he is just a tragedy waiting to happen. He's funnier then hell but dang that man has some issues. Can't wait to read his book. It's kind of a love/hate thing for myself right now with his character. Not going to give it all away you need to read this for yourself.

One song kept going through my head while reading this book and that's Shinedown's song "MONSTERS" and yes peop's Monsters are real...
Cause my Monsters are real, and they're trained how to kill...And there's no comin' back and they just laughed at how I feel.
And these monsters can fight, and they'll never say die...And there's no goin' back, and back and trapped I'll never heal...Yeah, my Monsters are real.
I felt like poor Gridley was singing this in his head throughout the book. Read it and see for yourself. Oh and this book deals with real issues in somebodies life day to day so if you are looking for sunshine and daisies this book isn't for you! could cause triggers so be warned if you do read it. It's brilliantly done but it's not pretty.

I highly recommend this book...

So much story in one book!

I love everything about this book. The story line is strong. The cast of characters is great and well developed. Some may not like Napoleon or feel like he's a problem for Gridley's recovery, but I'm that person who loves the hot mess and wants to save them. It's very well written and sucked me in from the beginning.
Do you like all the feels with some laughs and hot rockers trying to find they're way in life? Then this is for you!
There are cross over characters from the Drawn series. While it may enhance your reading to know their stories, you can absolutely love this book without reading that series!
I'm looking forward to book 2!

Words cannot express how I truly feel about this book. I could not put it down. I needed to see how it ended. How M.A. Stone wrote this book, I felt like I was there with Gridley. My heart broke over and over for this family, but I kept coming back because I needed to know.

Anxiously awaiting book two.

Holy smokes was this a wild ride. This is not a book for the faint of heart... it has addiction, abuse,PTSD and so much more. Gridley and Ros are explosive together. I loved the chemistry and their honesty with each other. Nap Grids Bf is someone I want to hate but I know the author is going to make me like him...maybe in book 2. If you like sexy rockers and a bit of dirty this is the book for you.
