The Perfect Comeback

Rate this book
I don’t do boyfriends. Or dating. Or random hookups.

Not when fictional men do it so much better, and not when my heart has been through the ringer. So when retired MMA fighter Matt Haywood crashes into my life, I’m not impressed. Quite the opposite actually. I avoid him at all costs.

At least, I try.

His persistence wears me down and it’s me who ends up wandering into his gym looking for more. I have to admit he’s nothing like I assumed. He’s witty and smart. His physical condition could win awards. Problem is, somewhere between rolling around on the mats together, I let down my guard.

I thought I was over relationships. That I’d never risk my heart again. But he’s out to prove it’s never too late for a comeback.

I really liked the start of this book – it drew me in and had me smiling, eager to read on but then things took a turn that meant my attention was never potently on what I read. I don’t know if it was the mood I was in, but at times in the first half of the book I found the heroine a tad too abrasive.

The character interactions between retired MMA fighter Matt Haywood and top video-game designer and Walking Dead nerd Mia, were at times interesting, but it took too long for things to progress, the book never truly gains its momentum for me.

Matt’s dad I wish he had been squished like the horrid bug he is early in the book – really disliked him.

⭐️ 4 "Zombie Girl" Stars ⭐️
The Perfect Comeback, previously published as My Undead Heart was such a refreshing story! I enjoyed it a lot! Mia and Matt formed such a great pair and their banters were so entertaining. I spent my whole read laughing, smiling and swooning from their adorable relationship.

"Okay, I bet you can't last four dates. With me."

Mia is a geeky heroine fascinated with zombies and computer games. Her energetic personality when these subjects are concerned was funny and endearing. She’s also cynic and doesn’t look for a relationship or love. Everything changes when Matt enters her life. He makes her question everything, but she’s fighting the inevitable.

Matt, this giant with a heart of gold! He’s a retired MMA fighter, struggling owner of a gym and a real softy. Seriously, my heart couldn’t get enough of his caring actions toward Mia. He might seem intimidating with his physical appearance, but his personality is so attractive! He’s so patient with Mia because he wants her but doesn’t want to push her away either!

This couple certainly shares an incredible chemistry, but the emotional connection is there too. They’re simply fantastic and their passion is combusting and touching!

"A light to the darkness. Solace amongst madness. That's exactly what Mia has become for me. She's the home I look forward to every night after work."

Kacey Shea presented with The Perfect Comeback a lovely romance that gave me butterflies, but also brought a certain dose of humour and drama! Give a chance to this beautiful story!

I'm kind of embarrassed to say this was my first full length Kacey Shea novel. But now that I've gotten a true taste of her writing it definitely won't be my last!

The Perfect Comeback is a wonderful mix of everything I enjoy in a contemporary romance novel- great sexual tension, fun, flirty banter, terrific friends you wish were yours, real, relatable characters, and just the right amount of angst to keep the story interesting.

I loved that neither Matt nor Mia were your typical hero and heroine. Mia is tough, guarded, and at times even a bit detached, thanks to events in her past. But she's got that soft, vulnerable side you can see peeking through, she just needed the right person to fight to bring it out. And speaking of fight, Matt's an ex-fighter who's doing everything he can to make ends meet at the moment, to keep his gym afloat and his dream alive. I love heroes like Matt- one who's strong but soft, tough yet tender, with his own vulnerabilities from a past that still haunts him.

There was a lot of push and pull with Mia, she kept her defenses up even as Matt worked to pull them down. She was dead set against letting anyone in and that didn't make for an easy ride. Matt and Mia are both pretty stubborn so things got a little tense at times, and even frustrating. But I really enjoyed them together, and I appreciated the growth they each went through.
While there were some heavier subjects dealt with in this story, it was also light-hearted and fun, and Ms. Shea did a terrific job balancing it all.

Mia is not your typical lead female. She's a top video game designer, total Walking Dead nerd, and has become a bit of a cold-hearted B to protect herself after a bad relationship in her past. Luckily, she has her best friend Jared (I love him. We *all* need a Jared in our lives) and his sister Rae to keep her sane.

Matt was so sweet. He's a former UFC/MMA fighter who now owns a gym. Let me be clear. I am not a huge fan of sports romances. But Matt is so much more than a meathead. He is sweet, honest, respectful, and just--- damn he's good. Trust me. You'll fall for him too. But he has demons of his own that he has to admit to Mia, or else the relationship will be sabotaged.

These two characters were refreshing and unique. The writing dealt with important issues like domestic abuse, gambling addiction, and losing a parent to cancer. But it had an even amount of times that I smirked and laughed out loud. A fun balance of humor and heart that won me over to the tune of five stars. I like Kacey Shea's writing- a lot. She's an indie that I wish others would notice more. This is her best work to date. Loved it. Was thrilled and blessed to get an ARC of this story. Keep up the great work Ms. Shea. I'll be watching.

Kacey Shea had me laughing from the beginning of Mia and Matt's story in My Undead Heart. I mean who names their cat after a Walking Dead character except for a bad ass chick like Mia. It wasn't long until I was completely enraptured with Matt and Mia and their game obsessed, MMA worlds. I couldn't wait for them to get down and dirty and find their happy ever after together.

Mia Shultz is a lover of the undead with zombies being at the top of her list of faves. When she isn't working at Eversoft gaming company, she is watching her favorite zombie shows or dressing like her obsession. I loved this character so much, including her hard shelled outer facade that she has built around herself to protect her heart from ever being hurt again. Just when she thinks her heart is dead and can never be revived, along comes Matt to prove her wrong.

Matt Haywood is busy trying to keep his struggling business South Side gym alive. The last thing he needs is a girl decorated in grotesque stage makeup to come crashing into his world and turn everything upside down, which is exactly what she does. I couldn't help falling helplessly in love with everything about this hero from his rippling muscles to his hard work ethic and everything in between. He had me wishing more than a time or two that he had me pinned to the mats in his gym and calling me Zombie Girl.

Kacey Shea delivers another great read that tickles the funny bone, revs your libido, and keeps your heart pumping. I highly recommend My Undead Heart for a romance that is sure to leave you dreaming about true love and possibly with a new fascination for zombies as well. Kacey Shea is an excellent storyteller of all things love whether her stories include a gorgeous rock star, mouth watering fireman, or a delicious ex MMA fighter, they all capture your heart and leave you wanting more.

I really enjoyed My undead heart with lovable characters and story line that will have you hooked till the very end . This would be the first book I read by Kacey Shea and it wont be my last an author who can have cats named after one of the walking dead characters has got to my kind of people plus when you add hilarious banter . There wasn't anything I didn't love about this story and my cover lover senses are tingly while looking at this cover . Mia is a tough cookie it's understandable why she is so anti relationship and her many quirks had me girl crushing hard . Matt is not just a hunk with a body he's sweet , charismatic , and funny you can't help but be drawn to him . I loved the banter between them and their chemistry is off the charts . I can't wait to read more by Kacy Shea and her amazing characters .

Well... I have a few mixed feelings about this one.
I am a sucker for sports romance, especially if they're MMA or any martial arts story because that's my favorite sport but since the MC wasn't actually fighting, he's retired, it disappointed me a bit.
But anyway, the mc Mia annoyed me a lot with her inner dialogue. She was so indecisive about how she felt about Matt that it was annoying. At the same time that she didn't want anything serious with him, she would overthink every action from him and question if he really wanted her even though he was following "her rules" in their "relationship". She would get angry if his brother said something about her being his girl but at the same time would question why he was brushing her off after it. Like, make up your mind already.
So, I finished because I liked some parts but it wasn't my favorite at all. It was an ok read for me.

This is not the first book I’ve read by Kacey Shea, and I felt like it was the first time. I’m always surprised by the balance of humor, sexy bits and definitely emotional ones, switching to one moment to another with such easiness.

I was expecting something less emotional, it just took me by surprise. The tone of book was really refreshing, keeping me interested, intrigued and entertained.

The heroine, Mia was so someone who I could relate to.

From her hobbies to her personality, I connected immediately. I liked to see something a bit different, a geeky girl totally assuming who she is, a bit hot tempered and also with no filter.

She has flaws and she is stubborn, but not trying to please to people but well I wouldn’t have been interesting if there wasn’t some scars and some deep issues she had to work on. She is a complete person, passionate, kind but also at time infuriating.

I enjoyed the kick in her life, putting her out of her comfort zone, a guy who can push back harder.

Damn Matt was good… no pun intended. Maybe.

Mia found her match. The thing was how long would be holding the distance??

I appreciated Matt from the beginning. Yes he is hot, sexy… but definitely more.

His sensibility and sincerity was just… I was melting. Swooning a bit? Yes.

For a story that might have been seen as more light hearted, I really appreciated to see that it was more to discover, flaws and all. They felt real to me and both of their scars and struggles were heartbreaking, and for once they finally found someone who accepted the other wholeheartedly. My Undead Heart was definitely a wonderful surprise. I enjoyed it from the beginning until the end.

I've reviewed for Kacey for a while now and I'm happy to admit that my excitement over her books has only increased with each release! I didn't know anything about this book except that our main character is a zombie lover. As soon as I fond out about that small detail, I was all in. I'm not obsessed with zombies myself but I do love a quirky character that's immediately sets herself apart from other main characters I usually read about.
Our main character, Mia, is in her thirties and reminded me a lot about myself in many ways. Her dark humor and opinions about men weren't hard to relate to since I agreed 10000%. She's a video game designer and I loved reading just how passionate she was about it. She owns everything she does and says and she only made me more proud at every turn of the page.
Then we have our love interest, Matt, a former fighter and now owner of his own gym. He has a heart of gold but of course, those are the characters that have had it the most rough in life. My heart broke a million times over him and there were many times where I wanted to replace Kacey and rewrite his entire life so he could be happy 24/7 lol. I also kind of wanted to steal him away from Mia...
Anyway, we get both of their POV's and them together was nothing short of perfection. I was rooting so hard for them that it literally felt like my happiness relied on it. They both dealt with issues that nobody should deal with but only made them that much stronger. They have come a long way since I first met them and I couldn't be any more proud!
And that's exactly why I love Kacey to death. No pun intended. Her novels are always hilarious and steamy to the max but they also tackle extremely serious matters that enhance the characters that much more.
This is where I mention a side character that would have absolutely stolen the limelight if I didn't like Mia and Matt so much. His name is Jared!!!! He's Mia's best friend who always had me at the brink of tears because I was laughing so hard at everything that came out of his mouth. I only hope I can meet a friend like him (and a Matt) someday.
The only criticism I have for this book was that the last time jump kind of left me feeling robbed. I won't go into detail because of spoilers, but that's why this isn't a 5 star read. Nevertheless, I will recommend this to ever Game of Thrones and zombie lover out there! This book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

My Undead Heart is a story that will thaw out even the coldest heart. Mia and Matt's story is one of pasts dictating the present and impacting on what could be your future. Their story deals with abuse and how it impacts on you both physically and mentally as well as the people around you. It made me laugh and at times made me cry but most of all it gives you hope and shows you that when you find the right person that even the most undead heart will be woken with the strength and tenderness that only real love can give you but you have to fight for it and only you can make that choice. These two characters will seduce you from the first chapter and their story will mesmerize you to the very last page. I only have one negative thing about this whole book and that is it had to come to an end, yes it is one of those books, you know the one where you are so immersed in their story and lives that you just don't want to leave. There is no other rating that could be given to My Undead Heart than a very deserving five stars.

This was my first time reading this author, and I like her writing style. But I had a hard time connecting with Mia.

Where we know Matt's backstory early on, it isn't until the 70% mark that we learn Mia's. I'm all for holding on to some mystery, but waiting that long to reveal her issue, especially when it's obvious it's something big, only made it harder to empathize with her actions up to that point. Sure, the defensiveness made sense then, but I'd rather have understood her reasons sooner. Instead of connecting with her, I'd roll my eyes whenever she'd bite Matt's head off because I didn't understand where she was coming from.

Still, I appreciated the struggles both characters faced. I liked that they had real problems, and that, for the most part, the dialogue sounded realistic. The scenes flowed well, and the secondary characters were funny without being so charming I got distracted from the main romance. Looking forward to seeing what else this author can do.

Are you a fan of The Walking Dead? Well don't let this title fool you. Mia is not ready for love but love is knocking on her door in the form of ex-UFC fighter, Matt.

Matt doesn't seem to have his sh*t together, but when it comes to Mia he's got a plan and it's a good one.

I really enjoyed the interaction between these two characters. They were like night and day and yet the dusk is where they blended so well, cause even zombies have to come out and play sometime. This book is definitely different compared to Kacey's other books. But you won't want to pass this one up. I really hope for more books with these characters.

Mia's life seems simple enough. She's brilliant, a video game creator extraordinaire with best friends who always have her back. What more could a girl want? Romance? No! Mia's been burned so badly that love's a bad four-letter word. She's content with her cosplay, dressing up as a zombie, living her life for herself. But is she really happy? She's built walls within walls to protect her heart. She feels like the undead zombie she pretends to be. Matt Haywood's a former MMA champion turned gym owner/coach who thought he had it all years ago, only to fall from grace and end up with nothing. He's built his gym from the ground up with nothing but determination and hard work. But the gym is floundering. He just needs a few more weeks. There's a huge match on the horizon, and one of his students is the best of the best. If he can just get there, he'll be okay, right? But Matt's situation is dire. He has no choice. To keep his gym open until the big match, he goes to his friend Zig for a job as a bouncer at his bar. While there, he sees the most beautiful woman. And...she's a zombie? What? Wait, did Halloween come early? Despite her bizarre makeup and clothing, Matt's irresistibly drawn to this quirky but gorgeous woman. Too bad she doesn't feel the same! It's none other than Mia, and while she's just as impressed with Matt's gorgeous, hunky body, there's no way in hell she's getting involved with a Neanderthal like him. She doesn't want or need a man in her life, and she certainly doesn't need one like Matt. And despite the chemistry, Matt doesn't want or need a relationship either. It's his business he needs to focus on. But fate throws Mia and Matt together time after time. Sparks fly. There's chemistry that neither wants to admit to. And there's so much of which neither is aware that could tear their lives into shreds. Can Mia overcome her past? Does she even want to try? As obstacle after obstacle is placed in Matt's path, exactly how much can he endure before he breaks? Do these two have any chance at happiness? When the past comes back to haunt both, it seems like the perfect storm of destruction. Nothing is clear. Unseen agendas abound. There are schemes to destroy both. In the end, can Matt and Mia put their pasts to rest? Is it possible for them to put aside their pain and trauma and look to what might be? Or will everything go up in flames, including what they both want and need?

Kacey Shea is another new author for me. I was delighted to be able to read this story. It's so unique, and I absolutely loved the storyline. I have to admit I'm not a big fan of motorcycle club, MMA, or other sports-related romances. But this story is so very special. I literally wanted to reach inside my Kindle and shake some sense into these characters! I alternately laughed and cried. The frustration, anger, joy, happiness, wonder, and the ultimate healing power of family and friends pulled me into this story and made my heart ache for and love these people. I loved the best friend relationships between Mia, her co-worker, Jared, and his sister, Rae. The ups and downs, highs and lows, and uncertainty of the relationship between Mia and Matt literally tore my heart apart. Kacey Shea is remarkable. I'm so happy I had the chance to read this book. I give My Undead Heart 5-stars without hesitation. Kudos, Ms. Shea, on a job very well done!

One final note. Please be an informed reader and consumer! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy this genre, think hard before buying any book you know you won't enjoy. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and all booksellers' websites. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author. She works extremely hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to the book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.

Thanks for reading my review and happy reading

The Perfect Comeback is my first Kacey Shea book. If I were a woman or even gay I might give it 5 stars because even as a heterosexual male I recognize how swoon worthy the hero of this story Matt Haywood ex UFC heavyweight champ is. Of course he is big, strong and handsome as all contemporary romance heroes must be. He’s also thoughtful and caring and hardworking and extremely loyal to his brother and the young men he’s training to be MMA fighters. He’s also extremely patient with Mia Shultz the object of his affection.
My problem is the heroine Mia whom for more than half the book I really didn’t care for. And being a guy, I’m all about the heroines so it’s pretty hard for me to like a book if I don’t like the heroine. For most of this story Mia seemed like a 34 year old woman with the emotional maturity of a miserable drama queen teenager. When she’s not creating a video game about zombies for work, she’s watching zombie movies and television shows. Or she’s dressing up like a zombie to attend some zombie lovers social function. I’ve got no problem with her liking all things zombie but she hardly leads a balanced life. And when she doesn’t get chosen with her friends to be an extra in her favorite zombie television show “The Wandering Dead” she spends the rest of the day pouting and drinking. In fact Mia drinks a lot. So yeah a zombie obsession and drinking pretty much make up her life. No wonder she has such a prickly personality that only her BFF Jared and his younger sister Rhea can tolerate. And honestly Jared is such a stereo-type of a hyper-sexual flaming gay man it’s just sad. I wonder how gay men feel about the way they are often portrayed like prissy, flaming queens in books and in Hollywood? I’ve known quite a few gay men over the years and none of them act like that. They've all seemed like normal guys who just play for the other team. His younger sister Rhea, apparently Mia’s only other friend is 28 but acts more like she’s 21 as her life seems to consist of partying and hooking up. For much of this story it felt like Matt and his younger brother Dan were the only two likable characters in the story.
Thank goodness as the story progresses we see a little more depth in Jared and Rhea as loyal friends to Mia. And thank God that we finally get the backstory that has been hinted at for most of the book as to why Mia is so anti-relationship. Of course it was a terrible relationship she had when she was a college freshman. But OMG, Mia you’re 34, it’s been 16 freaking years. Nobody gets to 30 without having endured some horrible relationships and a broken hearts along the way. Hell, a lot of us have already been through a divorce by the time we’re 34. You lick your wounds, learn from your mistakes and try again. You don’t spend the next decade and a half acting bitter and locking your heart away. Anyway one fateful night Mia sees the light and goes above and beyond to lay her heart on the line and win Matt’s trust and affection back. And I was so moved by her efforts that dammit I had to like her. In fact when Mia finally opens her heart she’s a pretty spectacular girlfriend.
Good book. Plenty of humor, romance and sexy times and not too much drama.

I loved this book from beginning to end!!

Mia is different than any other female lead I've read. She is tough & fierce. She is somewhat cold hearted from a bad past relationship. She has her bestfriend Jared who every woman wishes to have. A total #TWD fan (girl after my own heart) and top video designer.

Matt is a former MMA fighter who now has his own gym trainer others to do what he did.
He is sweet, polite, and caring.

Matt and Mia have some chemistry most look for and never find.

This book had me laughing and tearing up. A definite MUST read.

Kacey never writes a bad book as far as I am concerned. This is a different type of book for her. But I absolutely loved it none the less. This one is about zombies and two people who are different falling for each other. Mia is cold hearted after a bad relationship and doesn't believe that there is someone out there for her. She isn't even interested in a relationship she is more interested in The Walking Dead and zombies.
Matt is a fallen fighter just trying to make it from day to day without losing everything. He is struggling to keep his gym and everything else in his life. Falling for someone is not in the program for him at this time. But these two together realize that there is a greater challenge facing them and that is not falling for each other when they are perfect for each other.
I loved Mia because she was not your typical lead female. She is cold hearted not wanting a relationship, top video game designer, totally into Walking Dead and zombies. She was amazing to read about especially the parts with her best friend Jared (love him). He makes her see exactly what she refuses to see.
Matt has demons of his own but he is still a great guy. Not your average meathead fighter type. He is respectful, caring, sweet , just lovable. I absolutely love how no matter what he does try to make things work with Mia even through it starts out as a bet .
I love the topics that were covered in this book from domestic violence, gambling addiction to losing a parent from cancer. These topics were covered with greatness and care.
But Kacey writes that way. She has gentleness when she writes about a difficult topic. I absolutely love her books. This has become one of my favorite. I am really hoping that she writes one for Jared. I absolutely loved his character.
I was thrilled and blessed that I was given the chance to read an ARC of this book. Thank you Kacey for writing a great amazingly well written book. Cant wait to read more from you.

I loved My Undead Heart by Kacey Shea. It had such a wonderful, fun and strong heroine who knew what she wanted. After a bad relationship left her hurt, she has determined to protect her heart at all cost.

Mia was no longer interested in romance. Men were just not worth it, and none lived up to her expectations. Does this make her cold-hearted? Maybe, but it was worth protecting herself.

Enter Matt Haywood. Matt was everything she was not looking for. He was a former UFC champ who was cocky, but also sweet and charming. Mia was not what he was looking for either, he has his own priorities, but he was drawn to her.

I found My Undead Heart to be unique and honest story. I loved Matt and Mia. They had such a strong connection and loved their interaction. This story was emotional, but also had humor. I was pulled in from the beginning and could not wait to see how it would all end.

Happy reading!

Oh for the fu*k sake!
I never meet more stupid, self centered, foul heroine in my life!
And please don’t anyone tell me that it’s because of what happened to her in the past.
That bull shi*t!!!!
I lived through the same thing as she
No that’s a lie. I lived through worse, much much worse.
But that doesn’t give you the right to be a dic*k to everyone!!!
Is it obvious that I’m mad? Cause I’m fuck**g furious!
She’s awful, spoiled by her moronic so-called friends.
Matt love, you deserve sooo much better. Please make yourself a favor and dump this crazy woman!

After reading the blurb and first few chapters, I was intrigued by the book but didn't have high expectations. I've read a few romance novels with the nerd aspect--game developer, graphic artist, coplayer, etc. Mia is a highly dedicated cosplayer and zombie addict who also happens to work for EverSoft, a video gaming company. She's one of the head gaming designers and programmers within the company.  The only thing I didn't like about Mia was that she would get offended when someone told her she's pretty. Highly offended when told she's too pretty to be a zombie. As a reader, I figured that's what her character flaw is. I was a bit worried about the direction her character was going. But I'm glad that I continued reading so that I found the deeper aspects of her character and what molded her into the snarky, bitchy person she is and where he need for self-protect stemmed from.

Matt Haywood is in the weeds. He's behind on his bills and only weeks away from closing his gym that trains MMA fighters. His gym offers more than just fighting, although the fighting theme is evident from the pictures of his fighting career to the types of classes he offers--kickboxing, self-defense, etc. He needs to make it a few more months --just until his best student can make it to fight night. If Xavier can show his talents to the UFC scouts, Matt's financial worries will be over. And he wants that better life for Xavier--he's a good kid who needs a break in life. Matt decides to work two other jobs on top of running his gym and teaching classes. Talk about burning both ends of the candle. One job--working as a bouncer for his friend Zig's bar.

That's where he meets to zombie of his dreams. After an altercation with her, her friend, and few sexist jerks, Matt offers to teach Mia self defense. What starts out as a simple barter agreement turns into a bet to heartbreak. Mia's scared to let in due to a past relationship in college. Matt has never told anyone about his past. Not the full story. With neither of them being fully honest with themselves or each other, how can they build a life together? Or can they?

Will their love die faster than the zombie apocalypse?

Can they revive each other's dead hearts?

I'm a big fan of Kacey Shea, so I will ALWAYS read whatever she puts out, but I wasn't quite sure what to expect with My Undead Heart! However, I was BLOWN AWAY with the awesome goodness that made for a very entertaining afternoon read. The only way to describe Mia, is that she's a super sexy nerd, and makes no apologies for it. She's obsessed with gaming, as she's a top video game designer, with an obsession with The Walking Dead, but won't even entertain a relationship, after getting hideously played by a man from work. So she's become a bit of a biotch to keep the men away. But she never saw Matt Haywood coming. Mia does everything she can to chase him off, but Matt sees past her defenses, and is determined to make her his. As he's her opposite in every way, will they just be too different to work out? OMG, My Undead Heart had me laughing so much that my stomach & sides hurt now. The quirkiness of Mia was highly entertaining, not to mention her squad, which was made up of a colorful cast of secondaries that loved to dress up like zombies as well. Was she too guarded at times? Yes, although I understood, but Matt was just an all around great guy, & she put him through the paces. Did I mention the humor? Because it bears repeating again, as I'm still laughing just thinking about the hijinks & witty banter. Kacey Shea in all of her talented glory, has written a fantastic story that is highly original, and I WANT MORE MORE MORE of Mia & Matt! Even if I don't get my wish, hint hint, I will be waiting impatiently for her next amazing body of work! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Title: The Perfect Comeback
Author: Kacey Shea
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 5/5

ARC received in return for an honest review.

With a new title and a fresh new look this book is an eye catcher and I have to say that the contents matches the packaging, it’s just fabulous I mean c’mon the heroine has a cat named Mick Grimes and she loves all things of the undead variety, think The Walking Dead and any other Zombie related stuff, one thing she doesn’t love is love itself but can former MMA fighter turned trainer Matt convince her that love is worth fighting for? Read The Perfect Comback and find out for yourself.

Mia and Matt have some serious chemistry going on between them, the kind most look for but never find in their lifetime. Whilst Matt’s determined to make Mia his she does everything she can to push him away by really putting him through his paces resulting in a humorous, entertaining read filled with witty banter and boisterous fun.

You’ll laugh, you might even blush and there’s a chance you’ll cry tears of laughter but there’s one thing you will definitely do and that’s love this well written, brilliantly funny, five out of five stars romantic comedy.

A hot MMA romance

This book was an entertaining read. It had heart, a bit of angst, sweetness, and snark. Matt and Mia are a great couple. Matt is a retired MMA fighter who owns a gym in Chicago that has fallen on some rough times financially. To try and make ends meet and keep his gym from closing, he has to find some part time jobs. He’s training an up and coming fighter but works as a bouncer at a bar which is where he meets Mia. Mia is a huge nerd who loves zombies. Unfortunately, the day of the event she has been looking forward to becomes a major bust and she ends up at the bar Matt works at. Matt is immediately attracted to her even with her face painted up to look like a zombie but Mia rejects him with her usual snark. Matt offers to teach her some self defense after she and her friend are harassed and assaulted by a drunk. Matt is actually a sweet guy. He’s drawn to Mia despite her being prickly and anti-relationships. He wears down her defenses and gets her to see him in a different light. Mia’s best friend Jared is a hoot. He makes you laugh while wishing that you had a best friend like him. There are moments of angst because both Mia and Matt had to deal with rough pasts but you end up rooting for them. There is some heat in their love scenes. This was a very enjoyable read.

Cute, funny, and sweet My Undead Heart was so much fun to read. Even being fun, it still held a more serious undertone that brought it up from just being a fun read and kept me hooked the entire time. Mia isn’t your typical woman. Not interested in pretty face with big muscles or charming lines. She’s a girl after my own zombie loving geeky heart. She’d rather dress as an extra for The Walking Dead than go full glam any day. When she meets former MMA fighter, now gym owner and coach Matt the attraction may be there but he’s everything she’s sworn to stay away from.

The banter between Matt and Mia is fast, witty, and at times hilarious. Mia is a tough cookie and she certainly shows Matt he’s got his work cut out for him when it comes to winning her over. I loved how patient Matt was. There were times when I probably would have thrown in the towel and given up if I was in his shoes but he wasn’t one to give up without a fight and his determination definitely paid off. I truly enjoyed Matt and Mia’s story.

Mia is a girl after my own heart. How can I not connect to a character that loves, The Walking Dead and Zombies in general? We're kindred spirits.. enough about my love for Mia.

I loved this story for many reasons and not just because she loves Zombies. Shea really made this beautiful story. Mia is very unwilling to let her guard down and especially when Matt comes along. But you can only fight fate for so long. Their relationship doesn’t really have any kind of label. Mia is in a constant fight with her heart and her head. But Matt is exactly what she needed.

I loved the character growth and the moment that Mia realizes that she may have made a mistake. I don’t want to give the story away. Because I would rather all of you enjoy this book, as much as I did.

My Undead Heart really threw me into this world. These characters, their thoughts, and the love they never thought they would find. I’ve always enjoyed the books I’ve read by Shea. There’s no way to deny that she is an excellent writer.

Overall, I give this Five Boundless Stars

Oh what a freaking read!!! I have read a few from this author but nothing compares to what I just finished! I am such a big geek and the fact that she had so many things in this book for me to geek about, mainly being fans of zombie movies!!

Mia is such a unique character and I felt like each chapter I found out knew things about her and feel more in love with her than I was before!! He geek out about zombies is one of my favorites I’ve read and could relate to but then her also being a video game designer made me nerd out myself!! She is everything that would make me feel sexy as a woman and I loved her so much from beginning to end!! (Even when I was upset with her about Matt!)

Matt!!! The sexy bouncer that could melt panties at first glance! His story is completely heartbreaking but also heartwarming!!! He is truly someone worth reading about and watching. He’s inspiring and those last scenes had me in tears!! Everything he’s overcome just amazed me and I couldn’t wait to see how his story ended!

I loved this book and couldn’t get enough of Mia!! I was also a BIG BIG fan of Jared.... but not so much Rae, I know she meant well but dang girl you just don’t do that crap!! I loved this story and group of zombie friends!!! I loved the original cover but this cover is super hot also!! Congrats! 💜

My Undead Heart by Kacey Shea is part of the Hot & Sinful Nights: A Hot Romance Boxed Set

Reviewed on behalf of Reading Through Her Eyes blog

Mia is a 34 year old single girl who loves all things Zombie related and feels like her heard it undead. She's an independent woman who won't change for anyone, nor is she interested in romance. Matt is an ex MMA fighter whom has crashed into her life, despite her attempts to blow him off. He's determined to show her she's wrong with thinking she's cold, her heart is not undead.

Overall Thoughts: The story starts off slow, once past the first chapter things start to pick up and you get sucked into Mia and Matt's story. Kacey Shea brings out your emotions out as you read and become invested in the characters. For a book that mixes MMA and a zombie fanatic I have to say it was written pretty well. With Zombies being something that is big in my house the only reference was really to The Walking Dead, when there's so many other zombie references that could have been made.
