BOOK REVIEW : WHEN GARGOYLES CHOOSE (SHADES AND SHADOWS BOOK 2) : ASHLEY C. HARRIS

With A Bit Of Work This Series Could Be Great! A Movie Or TV Series, Buffy The Vampire, Star Trek (TNG), True Blood, Gate SG1, Penny Dreadful, Lost Girl, Shades And Shadows...

Gargoyles, Vampires, Wizards, Witches, Royal Families, Super's, Slaves, Servs, High School Students, Evil Royals Who Kill, Rape, Pillage & Plunder, Good Hearted Do Gooding Royals.
With Murder, Magic & Mayhem, What More Could You Ask For In One Novel?
Sit Back Relax And Immerse Yourself, Let When Gargoyles Choose Into Your Body, Soul & Mind!

For once we were to see these supernaturals as the beautifully exotic, majestic creatures they were truly meant to be, half human, half dragon, but the men of the race became cruel and evil under direction of Merlin, yes Merlin the Wizard, but he's not The Merlin we all know and love!
Not only were they trying to wipe out the Royal Vampires, but planning to torture them for eternity with a spell already performed on the youngest of the Royals, Julia!
The Vampires exacted revenge with the unbeknown help of a young Rose, then Merlin's Nephew, cast the spell not only transforming the Gargoyles into the grotesque demonic creatures we know today, but encasing them in stone in an everlasting agony and smashed each and every statue to pieces or so they thought!

Over time the Vampires of the Royal Family, whom were once the champions of humans, and now with no other 'Super' to challenge them, became superior and corrupted and as they say absolute power corrupts absolutely!
And so no other Supernatural species could revolt and overthrow The Royals, the Vamps sought out the most powerful of all species and fed off their magical blood and taking up Reign over the Centuries. This is the continuing story of Livia, a Royal Vampire whom fell in love with a gargoyle and secretly stole one of the statues, (Rose's), stashing it from 1544 till reviving Rose in 2017, from her torturous sleep and match making her to Sean, a distant relative of Livia's love), who if destined to fall in love with Rose, before his 21st birthday would stop his own transformation, forever breaking the spell on the remaining statues, even the broken ones who'd be badly injured or deformed and preventing all male descendants from transforming. This is their continuing saga. Book 2 sees Rose & Sean falling deeply for each other, mostly due to the sexual fantasies implanted into their dreams by their teacher (a witch hired by Livia, to help bring our couple together) and sees them if finally working as team, still hiding in plain sight, at a school full of supernatural descendants of all races from the when the curse was first cast, but is the jig finally up? Our Couple have now met two of the male heirs of the Royal Family, one who is out for their blood, but what of the other, Amadeus?
Which is which and can they really trust any member of the Vampire Royal Family, including Livia?

Once again, I mostly enjoyed this book, and I honestly believe this series could be absolutely awesome and possibly an incredible movie or better yet TV series, (coz you get more), but it does need a lot of work, especially a good editor. Unfortunately, I was constantly pulled out of the book again, which makes it hard for me to stay in character as I often find myself 'Skin Walking' in essence, slipping into the body and story as if I was the lead character, or (even sometimes all of them)! I was pulled out as sentences seemed as if they were written back to front and at times the writing a little rushed, with a lot of gramatical mistakes, but DAMN I CANT WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!
C'mon Ms Harris, please hurry with the next instalment Book 3, When Gargoyels Drown, I need to know how this series concludes, what becomes of Rose & Sean, will there be a love triangle with Amadeus, will the curse be broken reuniting Rose with her Mum?

Left On A Doozie Of A Cliffhanger! So If Cliffhangers Aren't Your Scene, Don't Worry, Be Happy, Book 1 & 2's Already Out. Book 3 Is Almost Here & The Prequel's Is Also Out!!!
As Predicted, Shades & Shadows Has Only Gotten Better With Age, Just Like A Good Bottle of Red Wine, Actually That's a Great Idea, Grab Your Book, Grab The Wine And Recline, Indoors, Outdoors, Or Better Yet, In The Tub! I Rate When Gargoyles Choose (Shades And Shadows Book 2) 4.5⭐️Out Of 5⭐️

★★★ RECEIVED ARC FOR REVIEW★★★

That was the mother of all cliffhangers. It should come with a warning cause I just about threw my phone. Ha! It was getting so good!!!

Ahhhh!! Im falling for Sean. Adamus is now in the backseat of this story. I wanted more of him but since we have Seans POV a lot in the novel and getting a real good look thru his eyes and mind I have serious high hopes.

Adamus the fact he can't recognize the women who save his life all those years ago is shocking. If Rose can after 500 years of change he should have too, and that's why Adam is in the dog house of this story.

Felix... Ughh I want to tear my hair out. And its not just him that makes me want to almost pluck my eyes out. His whole family besides Adamus (Obviously) has serious issues, like you can see some of their reasonings as good but they way they go about achieving them is wrong. Disturbingly wrong.

Sean again... *Phew* that "Scene" was adorable and had me all giddy inside. His connection building with Rose is charming and sigh worthy. What makes a great man is someone who will admit he was wrong and takes responsibility but also hopes to make the person (Rose) see he wants to give their relationship a try even if he's still unsure about being a Gargoyle.

This story was awesome! And I honestly cant wait to find out what happens next in the next novel. That cliffhanger left me in a ultimate book hangover and now I'm dying for my fix!

Rose is a Gargoyle and was born in 1544, everything changed when the vampires came and brought a curse against her whole race. Now she is trying to hide in plain sight while trying to find a way to lift the curse.

I loved this and the drama and action in this story adds to the build-up of the overall series. I loved the way the interactions between her and the various vampires were written and the way it left some to our imagination to fill in the story. It definitely ended on a cliff-hanger and I now desperately need to read the next story in the series. Well written and all the thoughts and emotions were easy to feel and empathise with.

Getting worse

I gave the last book an extra half a star for the Dr. Who reference but this? Continuity errors such as the first book said she awoke in 2026 and this one says 2016. Apparently the author is confused about what Wiccans are. An editor has still not be found judging by the spelling, grammar, punctuation, and disjointed writing. The idea was amazing, the execution is....not.

When Gargoyles Choose

Book two was very hard to follow. The plot changed every other page and the editing was nonexistent. It seemed like after some effort in book one, this second book was a fly-by-the-seat-of-the -pants effort. Very disappointing.

Engaging and interesting

This book was fantastic and enthralling. The storyline was intriguing and captivating and the characters were engaging and intense. I feel for Rose and I hope she will soon gave her mother around. I'll be sure to grab the next book.

Note to self: Read via Amazon Kindle Limited for free. Rose better end up with Adamus. I like Sean, but I'm team Adamus--I like brunettes over blondes (if you read book 1 & 2, you will get the reference; in book 1, it was made by Rose; in book 2, it was made by Sean).

Still loving the story and characters but the editing is very poor, distracting to the point of frustration.

Quick read

Really like the story overall. However, the grammatical errors and typos are a distraction. I wasn't expecting this book to be so short! It's only ten chapters.
