School of Broken Souls was perfect in almost every way. It was dark, mysterious, a bit Gothic, seriously captivating and with a very compelling writing. Like Adeline, the reader is completely pulled into the story from the very beginning, unable to leave.
But it was simply too secretive in my opinion.

Adeline get shipped to the Raven Academy on a complete scholarship and her father's medical bills paid. The place is somewhat creepy, out of this world, the students too perfect, especially for someone like Adi, bullying victim with zero backbone nor confidence. She doesn't know why she's here but she knows that if she leaves, her father might die.

The setting reminded me of Vampire Knight, Vol. 1 and Night School. A mysterious school with mysterious students and mysterious classes. A mystery we can't help to want to decipher.

Unfortunately, Adeline is not really the curious type and more the passive pushover kind of heroine and we readers are left with only questions and no answers. And while mysteries are really entertaining, two hundred pages of "no idea what is going on" dull a tiny bit the enjoyment.

I liked the book but nearly enough to find it amazing in any way. If I had the next book, I would probably feel differently. Right now, the authors gave me nothing and I am putting all my hopes on the second book. Let's get some answers and some ass kicking!

To be continued

I don't do weak

Very weak heroine, I can not continue to read a book where a character is willing to rob a 7-11 for her dad's treatments moments before getting home finding out she's going to attend a school she just heard about 5 mins ago that will pay for her dad's medical expenses and have the nerve to say she feels like they sold her as payment? You were willing to risk it all about 4 pages back? I also can't stand I weak chick who cries, hyperventilate's, and can't hold her head up high. And if one more author writes about the illuminati! I swear I will put you on a do not read list.

There’s a trend of new academy books and still on for reverse harem books. I generally steer clear because while I’ll read them, they aren’t my favorite. However, I do like Ms. Young so I tried it. This book is different from the ones I’ve read. Very mysterious and us readers are left in the dark about what is really going on, sometimes a little too much. And, sometimes, this book was a little too cruel, just like high schoolers can be which is why I avoid YA. However, I did really like this unique take on the academy genre and am looking forward to finding out what exactly is going on. Recommend this book.

If I could summerize this book in one word, it'd be: Why?

Why is Adi taking U-turns between standing up for herself and letting people walk all over her?
Why was she invisible at her old school but visible at her new one?
Why does she keep going against her own better judgment?
Why doesn't she find multiple memory losses questionable?
Why is Adi special? I mean, is she special? Is she not? I don't know, U-turns!
Why do the guys care about Adi? (in this case, we do know the answer: "I don't know." as said by multiple of them.)

Why is nothing about anything explained? Heck, we don't even know WHY they (the "charity cases") are allowed to attend Raven Academy in the first place.

I don't mind scared or confused main characters. Adi, however, isn't scared. She is confused but she isn't making any effort into finding anything out, when something strange happens she either brushes it aside or goes into complete denial mode. Questions everywhere, answers nowhere to be found.

I'm still picking up the next one as the story has me curious to where it's heading and Adi has all the potential in the world to grow as a character.

Adeline Jones is the ghost girl. The only time anyone takes notice of her is to bully her, otherwise, she is invisible. However, things change once she receives a scholarship to attend Raven Academy. In a school that looks like a medieval castle and where the other non-scholarship students look like supermodels, there are secrets. Something doesn't seem right. And when Adeline catches the attention of a mean girl and the most elite group of "them" her life becomes even more difficult.

I am intrigued. Totally captivated. It's not often that I can't figure out the direction of a book almost immediately but this one is a mystery. I have a couple of theories as to what Raven Academy is and can't wait until more is revealed. Celtic mythology has many stories of ravens and soul stealers, succubus and vampire legends both originate from stories of soul stealing, and then there's the dragon to consider. I just know that these two authors will have an original twist and make the story fully their own regardless of its origins. The non-scholarship students are obvious but where does Adeline fit in? What exactly is she?? Maybe I'm not intrigued, maybe I'm obsessed.

Adeline is a complex character. Obviously beautiful, obviously intelligent, obviously caring. Yet she doesn't recognize herself. It's clear what damage others can do to us. The years of bullying have taken their toll on her. I was glad that she finally snapped. Dangerous, yes but her physical well-being was less at risk than her mental well-being. This was the first step to finding her own strength. I don't know what to think of the guys. Alexander, Dante, Nix, Finn, and Professor Braxton London. Gorgeous. Strong. Dangerous. They are drawn to Adeline and show flashes of caring but mostly she is beneath their attention. It's clear that they are not in control even while they rule the school. However, I am not at all appreciative of their general treatment of Adeline. I do hope that she turns out to be stronger than they are, finds a way to resist them and protect herself and that they decide she is vital to their happiness. Then I hope she makes them work for her attention. Adeline is not meant to be a ghost, she is meant to be a Queen. Can't wait for more!

A new series by one of my favorite authors and the other author I have read a couple of books from. This book is perfect in every way. Gothic, dark, mysterious, action and suspense keep you on your toes while trying to figure out answers to questions that pop up throughout the book. I can not wait to read the next book, because I want to know if my thoughts are on the right track. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book

I read the whole book and still have no idea what’s going on/the point of the story. The characters are shallow and they don’t progress in any logical way so it’s not like they gain depth.

I absolutely loved reading this although for some reason it took me a while. i think its because the cover makes the book look almost sweet which is not at all my cup of tea. However i decided to give it a go as i love both authors and believe me it isnt as sweet as it first appears.
There is almost something Gothic about it and the storey certainly has an underlying darkness, Full of intrigue plus plenty of twists and turns to captivate your imagination
Really enjoyable read which i devoured in one sitting.

Nice Twist

Two fantastic authors have come together to create one intriguing world. We meet Adi at a very low point in her life. Just when things are about to hit rock bottom she is thrown a lifeline of a paid scholarship to Raven Academy though it comes with strings. Once she arrives all kinds of strange things start happening and mean things. I wanted to cry with her I must say. Just when it is all hitting a peak we get a surprise twist that won't be answered until later books. Great new world with intriguing characters. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

So I'm not usually into Academy books. I couldn't put this book down, it defied every time I tried to put it down. A mesmerising story, fantastic mysterious characters and a nice dose of naughty teacher student going ons! If you are pondering reading this book then just do it. You won't be disappointed. Now I just hope I don't have a huge book hangover, will be waiting for the next in the series like a crazed addict.

Hard to take this book seriously when Adi is ready to rob a 7-11 but going to a boarding school is too much?

Also - Adi is super dumb. Just gonna a rob a store with no mask? How do you explain where the money came from? They don’t let you keep the money you stole. And like it isn’t going to put the parents in more debt to pay for all the legal costs associated with her robbing a store?

The plot and characters were not well thought out at all.

WAIT....... WHAT???.... I'm So Confused..... And wondering what the H-E-Double Hockey sticks I just read....

So I'm gonna say this, this is the first time I've read anything by Author's CR Jane and Mila Young. This book came as a recommendation to me through my email, facebook, and by my most recent reads. So I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. But I thought it sounded interesting enough and wanted to check it out.

Adeline... Oh Adeline Jones.... She a young girl who at the beginning of the book is going to do something absolutely stupid to help her father who has cancer. Now she finds herself a brand new school that doesn't exactly feel on the up and up. I have very mixed feelings about Adeline, at times I though she was a good MC and I liked her well enough. But at other times I just found her to be a bit nieve and ummm irritating, and I kind of wanted to jump through the book and smack her.

Oh the boys.... Well there's Alexander, Dante, Finn, and Nyx..... I'm not sure how to feel about them. And I also have to say its kind of hard to say if there's supposed to be a connection with any of them. I mean at the beginning there's a point where they all kind of I guess you could say inhaled her scent and evidently have a connection with Adeline. Right now the closest Adeline may have come to a connection with any of them may have been Alexander and Dante. While we do get to see Finn and Nyx a few times, you just never really saw them with Adeline so I'm not feeling them with her yet, if their even supposed to have a connection with her.

I want to say this I think this series has great potential. There's moments where I think I know what's going on and what they are. Than there's moments I'm like, "What the heck is going on here?". But at the same time I feel like there's major gaps in the story that kind of leave you confused. But I'm not sure if those are going to be filled in later in the series or not, but I'm hoping that they are. Again there's a few twists to this book that make ya go, "Hmmmm what's happening here?". And just a warning of course there's a major Cliffhanger ending that made me almost wish I had waited to read this book until the next one comes out.

I'm giving this book 4 out of 5 Stars and can't wait for the next one!!!!

I read this whole series in a set, so I'm having some trouble directly separating the books. Therefore, I will have one long review for the series as a whole that I will post to each book. That means warning!! There are definitely some spoilers ahead.

I would argue that this book is bad, and that the entire series was bad. The writing is lacking, the plot is lacking, the exposition is not well explored.
I found myself confused while reading and also annoyed at how bad the writing was. This book genuinely feels like something you'd find online written by teenage girls who love reading/writing but haven't quite mastered or grasped how to create a well defined exposition.

I also found the book to be contradictory all around while reading it.
Take Adi, our FMC, for example. The book LITERALLY starts with her wanting to rob a store at gunpoint (fake gun, but ya get it) so that she can get money to help her father with his hospital bills since he has cancer. But then, everything turns around and she has an opportunity to go to an exclusive academy and the school is willing to pay for her father's medical expenses. She immediately gets so so sad about this, but it doesn't fit with the strong-willed girl we saw at the start who was willing to do anything for her father.

Adi's also contradictory as a character with how she flip-flops in her reactions in dealing with other students. Sometimes our homegirl has a backbone and won't take ANY shit from the people being rude. Other times she cowers and doesn't stand up for herself. So who is she? What's her real personality? She inevitably goes to confront the guys about what's going on at the school, and when she finds out, she doesn't fight them enough or ask enough questions. When she figures out what SHE is, she doesn't question anything enough. Like, miss girl... Your whole world has just been flipped upside down. You gotta address this...

As we get further into the series, it just gets worse. This series genuinely lacks any real worldbuilding or character development, and it just feels so stilted and uncomfortable and BORING while you read.
The guys are all so BLAH and the relationship growth is seriously lacking for me throughout.
Our major conflict at the end? So lame, so lackluster. Adi ends up in Heaven and meets her parents, and we get NOTHING here. No real information about where she is, what it's like, etc. We just know she's miserable. Like... fine, but give us something.

The story ends with Adi's soul in all of her guys and them meeting during her first day at the academy (with none of them having any memory of their previous life together). Meh.

By the time we get to the end of the series, I find myself hating it and regretting reading it.
2 stars all around, being generous.

School of Broken Souls is dark, mysterious and captivating. There are too many secrets at the end of the book, for me to be able to give it 5 stars. But it's definitely well written, and very enjoyable to read.

We meet Adeline Jones as she's about to rob a 7-11 with a water gun. She needs the money. Her father is sick with cancer, and even though she has two jobs outside of school, and her mother works all day as a nurse, they cant even get close to paying for her fathers medical Bill's.
Just as shes about to threaten the cashier, a guy in military uniform walks into the story, so she hurries out.

She goes around town looking for another place to rob, ending up dismissing the places she walks by
She ends up at a cafe, where after having sat down, a group of popular kids from school show up. Before she's noticed, the group talks about The Raven Academy, that a girl from school didnt get into. Adeline is curious and googles it, but cant find anything about this academy.
As she's about to leave, the girls notice her, and one starts pulling her hair, somehow getting our character thrown out.
The girl hates her, as a guy she was into had asked adeline to a dance. She refused, but the damage was done.

When she gets home, she finds out that this same day, she has received an acceptance letter to the academy.
She doesnt believe her parents, thinking that shes being pranked, but her parents explain that the schools principal, mr Asher, personally delivered the letter.
She refuses to go, wanting to be there for her father, but then her mother gives information that changes it all - the academy will pay all of her father medical bills if she attends the school.

She's going to attend the boarding school. She's going to The Raven Academy.

When she first arrives, she quickly notices that the students being models to shame. The students seem to be divided into non-scholarship and scholarship students. The uniform is better for the non-scholarships, they are more beautiful, and get treated with respect (if not fear).

Her first schoolday, she meets her new teacher, Mr. Dusk, by by walking in on him getting a blowjob by a student.
He follows up by threatening her. Great first day. Great first class!

Through the next weeks, she meets Mercy, her new BFF, but she also meets the it crowd. Unfortunately, they set their eyes on her.

Shes definitely no longer a ghost girl.
...And Alexander, Dante, Nyx and Finn are definitely not the crowd she wants noticing her. Right?

Adeline has been dubbed the Ghost Girl b/c she's practically invisible. The only time anyone pays attention to her at school is to bully her. That's the least of her problems though with a sick dad at home. When an opportunity presents itself to put her in a new school and help her dad, she has no choice. She knows she has to go to Raven Academy. Once she gets there though, she wishes she could leave. Something isn't right. Something is very, VERY wrong. And just like back at her old school, there are bullies. These bullies though, they can be deadly.

I'm not 100% sure where I'm at with this book. I'm intrigued by the concept. I definitely want to know what's going on. We are left without a clue though. Now I'm all about books that keep me guessing but right now I'm just confused. I need more. I need to know more about the guys. I need to know more about what the hell is going on. I also need a little more from Adi. Stand up girl! Don't be a doormat. I feel like she keeps trying to make a stand, be strong, and then she fails at it.

Now, that's not saying this is a bad book or that you shouldn't read it. I'm definitely interested in the story and will be reading the next one. Which is why I gave this one 4 stars. It definitely has potential. I'm just not quite there yet. With all the series out there right now, especially bully and academy, I like something a little different. I'm hoping this turns out to be that special, different story we are all looking for. I just need book two to really bring it.

A young woman is planning to rob a 7-11 store with a fake gun. Her family needs the money so her father can get anti-cancer treatments.

Next she gets invited to an exclusive school with a full scholarship. In addition, the school will pay for her father's medical treatments.

If something appears to be too good to be true, it probably isn't.

The school is divided into two very distinct groups, those who have been given full scholarships and those who are already rich enough not to need such a thing.

She gets a very interesting roommate.

Very soon she sees a student giving a teacher oral sex and from there on the whole thing gets really, really weird. There's a weird group of guys that are far more than they seem, a really weird, ultra-jealous female student and, of course, a murder.

She's so strongly attracted to the guys that she loses control easily. There's a party (with weirdness there), something weird with the guys smelling her whenever they can and, of course, a Council which seems to be ultra-powerful.

It's sort of a different book, the characters are interesting and there is a logical reason for the main girl to have to remain in at the school even though the best thing for her alone would be to run screaming from the place as fast as she can.

I'm interested to see where things go from here.

Another winning collaboration

When I read the blurb of this a couple of months ago I was hooked and had been counting down until release day🖤
C.R Jane and Mila Young are great authors separately and have written some of my favourite stories but together they have made just made something extra 🤯🥰
School of Broken Souls is the first in their new series. It’s got a whole bunch of tags to describe it!
#SlowburnRH #YA #paranormal #suspense #mystery #academy #theusualbullies
I really like the storyline line, I was kept in suspense the whole way through the book and I am left bereft because I’m so intrigued to find out more!!!😬🧐 Look if you like YA and you enjoyed Shunned from Steffanie Holmes then chances are you’ll enjoy this one too.
Adi or Adeline is growing on me there were a couple of times I was like “gurl you crazy stupid! don’t be chasing them they need to apologise!” 🤦🏽‍♀️But then the next minute I was like “hellz yeah break her damn nose!”👊🏼 time will tell if I stay on the fence about whether I like her.
We don’t get much of a background on the guys just little teasing tidbits, as I said anticipation to find out more.
Needless to say I can’t for the next book 📚

Adeline Jones has worked hard to get a full scholarship to the elite Raven Academy. While she doesn't want to leave her parents while her father is sick, if she accepts the scholarship, her father's medical treatment will be covered. Yet everything isn't what it seems at the academy. The popular kids are too perfect, and sometimes the scholarship kids go missing. When she feels a powerful pull to the three of the popular boys and a professor, she wonders if she might be actually paying the price of everything with her soul.

This is the first book in the reverse harem academy romance series, Academy of Souls. Adeline considers herself an average girl, but it is clear with her determination to want to help her sickly father, she is far more and then some. A lot of mystery surrounds Raven Academy, and I can't wait for more to be unraveled as the series goes on. Adeline is bullied right away, but makes a quirky friend and catches the obsessive attention of three of the most popular guys, plus a very young and hot professor. I don't want to give anything away, but I haven't quite figured out what's going on yet, and it's immensely intriguing. This story give you everything you want in an academy romance and a different sort of twist.

Need more

Adi is known as ghost girl at her school as no one ever sees her except the bullies, her dad is suffering from prostate cancer and they cant afford his treatment until one day adi gets offered a full scholarship to raven academy and to ensure she goes the academy arranges to pay for her dads treatment for as long as adi attends. So adi goes of to the creepy isolated academy and finds that things are not as they first appear. Theres secrets in every corner and bullies just waiting to hurt her but can adi really trust anyone. What happens when its the ones you think u can trust that hurt you the worst.when the bullying gets to much adi stands up and defends herself and it turns out shes scary and has one hell of a temper, is adi really just a human as she seems or could she be more!!! The non scholarship kids are all beautiful and perfect and hiding a terrifying secret if you knew you would never enrol in the academy as you are literally isking your soul by going.. loved this its full of mysteries i need to unravel...

Loved it!!

Thank you, I was in need of a five star read and it delivered brilliantly.

From Adi starting out with the intention of robbing a 7-11 to help pay for her dads cancer treatment to her being offered a scholarship place at an elite academy, what a day of mixed emotions. Of course her parents are pleased for her and although she does not want to go she is unable to even think about refusing, they are paying for her dads cancer treatment.

Loved it. Loved that the first person she meets inside shows a deeper connection but where will it go. Add to that the connection she feels to Alexander, Dante, Finn & Nyx. Who are they and what are they hiding. I like that bullying is highlighted as it resonates with a lot of people and makes the connection with the characters so much deeper giving a fuller understanding of their feelings and internal struggles.

Brilliantly written and cannot wait for the next book.

When I saw that CR Jane & Mila Young were writing together I have to admit I was a little excited. These authors have come together to write a story that compliments both their writing styles and has you captivated from the first page. This book has so many twists & turns, but they never give anything away and it keeps the reader captivated and wanting more (or at least it did for me). I feel as though I've been left at the end with a whole host of questions, some of which I'd had since the beginning. To me this is great because it separates this book from so many other paranormal romance books out there that give everything away and spell everything out for you.

I cannot wait to read School of Broken Hearts to see where Adeline's story ends up.

I have now finished book 3 so I'm coming back to review them. Overall, this series is interesting and entertaining but there are many plot holes. Sometimes it feels like there was a hunk of a chapter removed...for instance the introduction of Finn was treated like the reader has already met him when in fact it was the first time. We never really got Finn's back story or even a description of him before Adeline reacted like she had known him for a while. Adeline calls Clarissa by her name and then later learns the name of the "red headed girl" like she didn't already know. These are the only examples from book 1 I can remember but it continues throughout the series. Only read this book if you like angst and mysteries that take along time for the MC to figure out. Overall, worth reading especially with kindle unlimited.

This is the first book in an interesting series by Mila Young. It takes a very unique concept and changes it to slightly to incorporate it into a wonderful series.

This book introduces us to Adeline our main protagonist. It starts out with her trying help her family and begins her journey into a world that she never imagined. Along the way she's introduced just several interesting men including Alexander, Braxton, Finn, Nyx, and Dante. Each of these characters has their own history and leaves us wanting to know more as we read.

This book ends on a slight cliffhanger and definitely leaves you begging for the next book. I definitely recommend this book as it takes a good mystery and leaves you wanting more, as so many questions are left unanswered. This book is the beginning of a series that you just won't want to put down.

When I first started this book I thought it was going to be just another bully RH story like so many out at the moment, but this book surprised me! Adi intrigued me and as soon as you read about her life you just feel her heart arch and how stuck she is and her pain from the bullies in her school. Then we see her at Raven Academy and there is so much mystery surrounding this school...what is going on here and who are all these perfect students! The hot teacher is a great character but we did not get to know him much in this book and I really hope that we get to learn about him in the next book. Then there are the four guys...we really only get to know two in this book but the other two really had me intrigued, I need more of them in book two. These two authors together really created an interesting and different world that made it impossible for me to put the book down. I cannot wait for more - highly recommended!
