The historical information is very nicely done. But the book is dry, and MacCaffrey is sexist. There are better books on Elizabeth out there.

Read many years ago in one of my numerous Elizabeth I phases, probably right around when Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett came out.

A good (reasonably) whistle-stop tour, covering every aspect of Elizabeth's reign. Well written, with some interesting (and some outdated) opinions that are well argued.
