Honest Guide Praha
Praha není jenom Hrad a Karlův most. Než ji začnete objevovat, poznejte její nástrahy. Ale pozor, tohle není průvodce popisující historii každé budovy či turistické procházky po památkách. Moc nechápu, komu je kniha určena. Jestli má být pro cizince, tak nechápu, proč není v angličtině. Neboj je? Nevím....
Pokud je určená Čechům, tak jako Pražák asi 90% znát budete a v 80% jste už tyto místa navštívili. Já o spoustě míst vím, ale stále nebyl čas je navštívit, tak mě kniha nalákala.
Grafická stránka knihy je výjimečná a nádherná, text stručný a fotky završují knihu jako celek.
Kapitola Podvody a podvodníci mi pro Čechy přijde úplně zbytečná, zaprvé já opravdu v Praze neměním eura za koruny a vím, jaký je kurz, zadruhé opravdu si nekoupím vodu za 200Kč. Také poznám českou korunu od běloruských rublů. Nejsem blbá!

I loved the photographs and illustrations. If I could, I would hang them on my wall. The book mentions several hidden gems of Prague off the touristy path. The only criticism I have is that the book felt a little too short. I was expecting a few more places in the book which the authors have explored on their YouTube channel. I also would have liked a bit more detail on the places. They also overly focus on pubs and beer places, and not enough on art, science and architecture of Prague. Otherwise it's a decent guidebook for one-time visitor to the beautiful city.

Graficky nádherná kniha, kterou je radost listovat. Pro ty, co se čerstvě přistěhovali do Prahy, je to super počin. Kdo Janka a Honest Guide zná, nebude u mnoha míst tak překvapen, každopádně každý zde určitě najde několik tipů, které při příští návštěvě Prahy musí navštívit. :)

If you want to see something more than just "the castle" and "the bridge" in Prague, visit their Youtube channel. You'll learn a lot about Prague - like how to buy a ticket, how not to get scammed and which hidden gems Prague has. If you don't have time to watch all 100 videos, just read this book, then come to Prague and enjoy it. And please, don't put love locks on our bridges. ;)

Honest Guide na Youtube/FB sleduju už hodně dlouho a moc se mi líbí, co kluci dělají. Na knihu jsem se teda přirozeně hodně těšila, ale teď po přečtení jsem trochu rozpačitá. Musím se přidat k jedné recenzi tady na Goodreads a zeptat se - pro koho je ta kniha? Kdo si ji má koupit? Dokážu si představit, že ji koupím kamarádovi, který se nově přistěhoval do Prahy. Jako dárek. Když bude mít zrovna narozeniny. Jinak je to asi docela drahý počin vzhledem k tomu, že všechny důležitosti najde na Youtube. Pražáci budou většinu znát. Mimopražští si to nekoupí už z principu. No a hlavně Češi obecně budou vědět, kdy si koupit vodu (za 100,- asi ne), jak platit v obchodech a restauracích a na ulici si určitě peníze měnit nebudou (proč taky).
Přišlo mi, že si kluci (a redakce) mohli dát trochu víc práce s výběrem informací do české verze a tu anglickou klidně nechat takhle. Taky mi přišlo, že to Janek psal tak, jak mu to přišlo pod ruku, a v redakci se to prostě poskládalo za sebe a moc se nad tím nepřemýšlelo. A potom se stane to, že hned ze začátku knihy je formulace typu "... o které se v téhle knížce už mluvilo" a ono se ale ještě nemluvilo.
ALE není to všechno tak černé. Knížka je vlastně vtipná, skvěle proilustrovaná (!!!) a celkově vypadá fakt dobře. Našla jsem si tam okolo 5 míst, kam se brzy chci podívat. Jen jsem asi čekala víc. Víc informací, víc snahy, víc přemýšlení nad celým obsahem.

Two stars, as opposed to zero, go to the beautiful illustrations as well as the good intentions behind the book.
Otherwise it's a disaster of a book. it's obvious that nobody with proper English skills, let alone a native English speaker, reviewed the book before it was published. There isn't an ISBN number or the name of the publisher to be found anywhere on or in the book. It surprised me as the book is supposed to be sold in proper book stores all over Prague.
As far as tips for visitors to Prague go the book is mediocre at best. The tips are obviously offered with a very specific audience in mind. Young metropolitan "dudes" with very superficial interest in culture or history. Sure, Honest Guide might inspire them to venture off the beaten track. The main area of interest still remains drinking beer exactly like with the hordes of touristy tourists that the authors' Youtube career has been dedicated to counteract. The 49 pages, with very little large font text, contain a miniscule dose of what the amazing city of Prague has to offer.
The authors' Youtube channels are very good - entertaining, honest and at times very very brave. However, they lack any authorial skill which leaves me to think that they made this book only to profit off their online stardom.

I’ve been really interested in Prague and Eastern European cities lately and in my research I stumbled across the YouTube channel “Honest Guide.” Janek and Honza are awesome and give honest and helpful tips and recommendations for their home city of Prague. Whenever I travel I love seeing the hidden gems and whatever the locals enjoy doing, as those are the most telling of a city. Of course, after going through all of their videos I had to get the book! There’s a lot of stuff I’ve seen from the videos but also many more suggestions they haven’t covered yet. There are also QR codes throughout the book that lead you to videos that relate to the topic, some even unlisted! It’s like a scavenger hunt. I love this interactive aspect.
Now, if you’re expecting a Lonely Planet or Rick Steves kind of book, this isn’t for you. It’s more of a book of local highlights and tips for avoiding tourist traps and money exchange scams. Would definitely recommend for anyone who has been to or plans on going to Prague!

A great guidebook to an interesting city, with a local's insight. You won't find lists of restaurant and shop addresses typical of most travel books; you will find weird bits of trivia about locales that are slightly off the beaten path, with monuments and buildings that you might not otherwise stumble upon.
It's full of great advice like:
"You can't judge a book by its cover, and you can't understand a building unless you go inside."

Vizuálně perfektně zpracovaná (Eliška Podzimková rules), obsah vtipný a neotřelý jako Janek sám :) Kniha splnila má očekávání v tom, že mi připomene má oblíbená místa a zároveň doporučí spoustu nových, která jsem si zanesla do své Google mapy Prahy a těším se, až budu mít příležitost je omrknout. Protože je vidět, že s autory máme stejný vkus na místa a zážitky.

Zajímavě zpracovaný netradiční průvodce Prahou. Graficky je skvěle propracovaný, prolíná fotky a grafiku, nádhera. Co se týče tipů, spoustu míst jsem vůbec neznala a mám v plánu je rozhodně navštívit, alespoň pokud je najdu. Některá místa jsem znala i navštívila již předtím, ale tím spíš můžu souhlasit s autory, že to jsou opravdu pěkná místa.

Já osobně bych dokázala sedět hodiny a jen knížkou listovat a kochat se. A nebo taky umisťovat psa vykonávajícího potřebu na hlavy jiných lidí. A nebo snít o té fantasticky vypadající polévce s chmelovými knedlíčky z Lokálu. Je toho spousta a mě si ta kniha prostě získala. Se vším všudy.

Interestingly written. The content is funny and useful for a traveler or a newcomer who wants to explore underrated sides of Prague. For those who have stayed there for a while and got along well with locals might have known most stuff introduced in the book.

Super tipy pro takové ty pražáky/nepražáky, líbí se mi, že se tam až tolik nezameroval na podvodníky ale zároveň je zmínil, jelikož i nám mohou přijet kamarádi z ciziny. Knížka mne moc bavila a nejraději bych teď objevovala místa, která neznám.

One star is missing, because book revealed some of my favorite spots. As a person originally from Prague's old town, I see that this was written by someone who loves and knows Prague. I will recommend it to all my friends visiting me.

Cute and aesthetically pleasing offbeat guide to Prague that complements any "traditional" guidebook. I first learned about these guys on YouTube and they have great tips for enjoying Prague like a local.

I've been following the Honest Guide YouTube videos for a long time now, so when we returned to Prague last month, I managed to purchase this book the day before the stores closed due to coronavirus. It's fun and quirky and artistically done! It definitely helps you think "out of the box" as far as looking for places to see and eat in Prague (which I hope to do next visit, since this one was very bad timing).

Výborné tipy na menej známe, ale o to zaujímavejšie miesta Prahy, ktoré sa často nachádzajú v samotnom centre, ale sú turistami (našťastie) prehliadané. Oceňujem najmä QR-kódy s linkami na videá Honest Guide.

Milý ne příliš přeplácaný “průvodce” s tipy, kam se zajít v Praze občerstvit za dobrý peníz, kam vzít přátele na kafe, zkrátka kam se na chvíli v tom velkém stověžatém městě schovat před spěchěm a davem... Jsou to bezmála místa, která jsem již nalezla ani ne po roce v Praze, přesto jsem si knihu pořídila zaprvé ze zvědavosti, a za druhé kvůli jedinečné ilustraci Elišky Podzimkové, bez které si troufám napsat, by tato kniha neměla ten šmrnc ;)

I have seen Honest Guide videos on Youtube and now there is also a book .
The book looks good : many colours , lot of photos and short texts ( in different colours). The binding looks a bit suspicious . A thin and small book but doesn't fit in a pocket . Their favourite places in Prague for inspiration . Just a name and a point on the map . The advice is to walk and get lost and then find something, I think .

Milý, jemně vtipný průvodce. Většinu tipů jsem sice znala, ale aspoň jsem si prohlídla obrázky, a na těch pár, co jsem neznala, se těším. Obzvlášť proto, že jsou hodně z Prahy 5 a okolí, kde to nyní důkladněji objevuju a občas to trochu drhne (proč je ta Plzeňská tak hnusná?), takže se mi to celkem trefilo.
