Lexa Luthor is an avid writer and reader of the Omegaverse trope especially including F/F pairing. In her books, each main character(s) is a strong-willed female, who navigates difficult situations but always ends up finding love with their mate. Every tale has a twist and is gripping, sexy, and even a bit adventurous.
When not writing, Lexa enjoys binge watching television shows like Game of Thrones, Gentleman Jack, or The L Word. Her other favorite hobbies are playing cornhole, rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, and laying around the pool in the summer. At times, Lexa finds time to read romances (both dark and fluffy) and great sci-fi books but nothing else can beat a steamy, downright erotic F/F romance with biting, knotting, and slightly possessive love.

4.25 Stars. I must admit that this was way better than I expected. First, just a warning, due to subject matter and things I have to mention in this review, it will be more explicit than I normally am. This was my first time reading a book that is part of the Omegaverse trope. There is a lot of published Omegaverse m/f and m/m around but this was my first time seeing f/f. I’m not going to go all into what Omegaverse is but it has to do with Alpha and Omega characters where they could be anything from werewolves to aliens. If you would like to learn more, Luthor has a great write up on her site https://lexaluthor.com/2020/01/20/so-....
Now they important part I need to mention is that in f/f Omegaverse, most if not all the time, has G!p content. I hate this term but what it actually means is “girl penis”. As you might imagine, some people do not consider this wlw because the woman Alpha character has both sexual organs. In this case of this book, the Alpha character is an alien woman, who when she became the leader of her planet, a god like deity has actually entered her body. So as you might imagine this woman having a living alien type god in her, she doesn’t just have a penis, she has a very large penis.
I’m not surprised that some people would have issues with this and say this is not wlw, that this is not really f/f. I know there are some people that don’t even like the use of a strap-on in sex screens or characters that “pack” in their f/f stories. Personally, I’m not one of those people that have issues with dildos in lesfic. In the past I have read books with intersex characters and I have even read fantasy futa stories before. I’d found them on Amazon years and years ago not having any idea what futa even meant at the time. For me personally, as a lesbian, I don’t know what I really think of G!p content yet. However, for me a steamy hot sex scene is still a steamy hot sex scene no matter whose organs are involved. And let me make this very clear, Luthor knows how to write steamy sex scenes.
While I just wrote a whole bunch to explain that there is a penis in this f/f story, I didn’t even get to the actual story yet. There are only I think 2 sex scenes in the whole book, the rest is a fun sci-fi adventure. I enjoyed this story much more than I expected. I thought this was going to be more erotica and a little story. No this is a really good sci-fi story with hot sex scenes. I’m surprised this is Luthor’s published debut, she can absolutely write and I had a lot of fun with the story. There are never enough good new sci-fi books out, so this was a real treat.
Not only did Luthor suck me in with a good story, she stuck a damn cliffhanger at the end. It’s one of those cliffhangers that will drive you nuts until you read the next book. I actually read this about a week ago, I was behind in writing my reviews, and I have thought about reading book 2 all week long. The story really stuck with me. So in the end, I still don’t know how exactly I feel about G!p content. But what I do know is that Luthor can write and I have to know what happens next.
My god, why didn't anyone tell me this story and series is so addictive? Wait, the reviews pretty much confirmed this, but I didn't want to believe it! I was also going to skip the review on this because I'm not a sci-fi nut or feel I can talk in great lengths about this genre and how good/bad the book might be.
But I'd like to just say that this book (and the next 2 in the series) are amazing. As mentioned, I'm not a sci-fi fan, but I absolutely loved the story line and how it just seamlessly flows with the action, romance and drama of it all. Yes, there is that tiny (or rather large) detail about the whole g!P thing, so if that's not your cup of tea, then perhaps this isn't the book/series for you. However, as Lex Kent put it so eloquently in her review, a good sex scene is a good sex scene! Also, the side characters were well developed and the focus isn't entirely on the romance... maybe this is what I liked the most about it - it was a fully fleshed out story that I could enjoy as well as including the sex/romance on the side...
I'm not a huge fan of cliff hangers at the end of stories, because I feel cheated almost and coerced into buying the next book, however, I didn't care one damn bit about it with Luthor's books and immediately downloaded the stories to see what happened next!
I'm holding off on reading book 4 because I don't want the series to end. I think I saw that book 5 is being released in Feb, so only then will I allow myself to read the next one so I can continue the story quickly! :)
This is an fantastic series, and I’m a big fan of it and of Lexa Luther.
I had no idea, when I first read this book, how much I would fall in love with Kal and Charlie’s story. It has become one of my favorite series that I love to read again and again. The characters are complex and engaging. The world is well thought out, built, and articulated.
In two days, I completely devoured the first three books, as well as, the free short story (currently, offered on the authors website).
It’s set in F/F Omegaverse. You’ll definitely want to check out what that is before giving it a read. The author herself has an information page at her website: lexaluthor.com.

Interesting start to a sci-fi tale. Clearly this either was, or vibes off of Clexa fic. I’m def caught up in the mystery and curious to see where it goes next, esp from that cliffhanger. I will say I’m surprised a little at how many reviews are saying things like “wasn’t sure if this was wlw, because one character has a penis” that’s…. Wildly transphobic. Does a/b/o have history with being vaguely transphobic at times, depending on how it’s used and the context, yeah, but genitalia does not a gender make, y’all. It can be a case of “not for me might be for you” but This is still sapphic, wlw, content.
I've actually been reading the series through 3 books for the last couple of weeks waiting to start reviews until I got deeper (see what I did there?) into the story. Going to say right off the bat the ending to the first book was heckin' rude! Effective--I went and bought the next tw0--but rude.
That said, I've clearly been enjoying this story. It's very obviously a Clexa fanfic, but who doesn't love that ship and wish things had turned out differently? The author has made these characters so compelling on their own that it's been quite easy for me to separate them from the source material.
It is not my first foray into Omegaverse material, but my first with a FF romance within that world. It's sexy, erotic, tense and romantic. Though, you know, with all those breasts I wish they got paid more attention. Maybe I need to read more books.
The sci-fi element is well-done without being overdone. I, in fact, wouldn't mind a little more world building especially about the tech. What "switches" is Charlie "flipping" exactly. No points off for that (I haven't written in scifi for exactly the PITA world-building issue). Just my personal preference.
The language can be repetitive with the same words, expressions, and phrases showing up repeatedly. That's been something which has given me pause from time to time and pulled me out of the story.
Even so, the characters--Charlie in particular--are really easy to cheer for and want to get to know better. And Charlie and Kal's relationship, while heading immediately to bed, is fraught with real tension and high stakes. It keeps it really interesting.
The action sequences are great, the pace is fast and never gets bogged down with unnecessary wordiness.
Anyway, if you've thought ever that you might enjoy this story, you probably will.
I love this story (read the blurb), it had me by the third page. Space mercs, a race of Alphas and Omegas with an Alpha God leader, political intrigue, and queer romance (deliciously hot queer romance, I might add), what more could a queer girl want! There is a futa component to this story (look it up), if that offends you, maybe you should pass.
This is book one in this series and I’m starting the next one NOW!
2.5 stars I was drawn to this by the combination of f/f and a/b/o, which I haven't personally seen before and I was curious to see how it was executed in this setting.
Content warnings include: omegaverse setting (in the form of an alien species,) sex on-page, violence and murder, abduction, genocide, displacement, cliffhanger.
I was a bit disappointed to see that the Kalmar, the aliens that have alphas and omegas, are basically just tall humans with a keen sense of smell and strong biological clocks based around producing offspring that call people with penises alphas and people with an uterus omega and have really intense gender norms (though I was happy to see that there was movements to change those norms!) As such, alphas were bascially men and omegas were basically women. However there were also what's called Candrac alphas and omegas, meaning male omegas and female alphas, who however were some overdrawn version of intersex and have both fully functional reproductive organs. I found all that a bit of a letdown, and extremely cis-sexist where one's gender identity is explicitly defined by one's sexual organs (they say that on-page.) I also really wasn't a fan of phrases like "girl penis" or "fempreg", though those were only used during the foreword, not in the book. What I did like was what was done with the betas - which is a slur used for actual humans who have come to live with the Kalmar after Earth's destruction. I won't go further into that because it's not all that well explained either and more of a side thing. Instead, let me talk about the plot in general.
The plot of Dancing in the Darkness was kind of all over the place. Things didn't always line up or make sense, but I had less of an issue with that than the writing, which was really messy. It was definitely readable and I had no issues getting through the book, but what the narration was focussing on, the combination of plot vs worldbuilding vs backstory vs internal and external dialogue... it was very jumbled, and there were several instances that completely threw me off and out of the reading flow.
Worldbuilding wise there was potential, but it was all very much on the surface. Part of this was that Dancing in the Darkness was the beginning of a series, and it very much felt like a setup more than anything else. I can appreciate information being gradually and naturally revealed over the course of the plot, but here, especially in combination with the messy writing, that wasn't executed very well. Either I found the bits and pieces of information awkwardly placed, or the information was just too little or too late to get me really engaged or interested in it. On the one hand infodumping was avoided, on the other the gradual information felt extremely disjointed.
On the positive side, I adored Charlie, the protagonist. I loved her cheekiness and that she was a skilled pilot, and with her ingrained habits for listening to loud music, flaws and hangups around her past and family she felt well-rounded and interesting. I also quickly got invested and intrigued by Kal's situation as basically being a god's vessel, and what she was forced to give up for it. I also really liked Andren.
Overall a fast read with potential and good start for a series.
I received an ARC and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Wow! What a trip! I LOVED THIS A LOT! This was really cool. The plot is very interesting and it leaves you on the edge of your seat, the characters are so complex and exciting and just the world where the story happens is so awesome. I love these kind of stories and, of course, the sex scenes are the best and so intense. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted. But omg that cliffhanger 😩😭 when Charlie went back to the spaceship and found Raakor dead and Starr nowhere in sight and then the vessel self-destructing, my heart hurt. Poor Raakor 😔 he seemed like such a good crew member and friend. I hope Starr is still alive somewhere 🙏🏻 Book 2 here I come, because I can’t wait to find out what is going on

This was my first F/F omegaverse novel and I am pleasantly surprised. As I consider myself as an open-minded person and also sexually fluent, I don't burn myself quickly when picking up a book that has a certain kink. This book contains G!P content (google that if you're not familiar) and I can imagine it is not for everybody. I, on the other hand, had a great time with this book and also with that part of the book.
Luthor's book brings you to outer space. Earth as we know it does no longer exist. Charlie, along with other earthlings, are refugees living on the planet Kander. Charlie however no longer lives there as she has chosen a career as space mercenary. Which means she lives on her spaceship with her crew and travels from job to job retrieving people. For that career, she's being called back to Kander. On Kander, she meets the high commander Kal who wants her to retrieve an Omega who is taken from the planet.
In this book, Luthor introduces you to all the outer space stuff in a very pleasant tempo. You'll get introduced to the Alpha-, Omega- and Beta-types. Also, the introduction of different languages is done well because it isn't overdone, but just enough to feel the outer space vibe. I really like Luthor's writing style.
There is sexual tension between high commander Kal and Charlie and they do find each other in the bedroom, but the plotline is not only about their union.
I like the way the technique had a part in this book, after reading I want to buy a techbit... but it doesn't seem to exist in the real world ;)
Because there is G!P content in this book, I feel I have to address the sex-scenes in this book. Luthor did a good job describing the scenes, she does so in an explicit way and that's just the way I like it. It has a primal edge to it like you also see in shape-shifter books, but it is not the same. If you don't like the G!P content, you can even skip the sex-scenes and still have a very decent novel with a good plot.
This is the first book in a series and although I mostly see HEA in books in a series, this book does not have one. The book ends with a major cliffhanger! Loved it and I immediately picked up book two: Come to my Door.
I wanted to read book 2 first before I reviewed this one. I am not a sci-fi lover and I skipped the pages in both books about the space fights. Not because they weren’t good, but because I love(!!!) The scenes between Charlie and Kal. I can not describe my feelings about these books...it was so different but so good!! The sexscenes are not for Evrybody (please read the description before you start this serie and the explanation of the author on her site) but I love kink so this really worked for me 🔥🔥🔥. I can’t wait to read book 3 when it comes out and find out what happens between Kal and Charlie after the cliffhanger in book 2. More than 5 stars.
13th of October listened to the audio. It drew me in again 🥰
The plot is well conceived, beautifully written and executed, the writing style is seamless and the story flows well engaging the reader and causing an engagement with a text. I couldn't put it down and was left wanting more at the end.
It being an omegaverse story can be problematic if that's not your scene, if you know this don't read the book because you won't enjoy some aspects of it. if you don't know what omegaverse is Google it or read some other fanfiction before you buy this book.
The story is well written and thought out, it, nor its author should suffer because you do not like the sub-genre of the book.
I had high hopes for this story: scifi, smut, mixed races, gender-bending, adventures, rated highly by many - what's not to love? Unfortunately, the writing isn't very good. Perspective is confused and descriptions are mangled. Does the shuttle have 1 hatch or 4? DNF at 15% because I kept getting distracted by the writing.
To be honest, I had previously DNF’ed this book, but I decided to pick it up again, hoping that maybe some things would change along the way… like Kal’s personality. The first time I tried to read it, I just couldn’t stand her, but on my second attempt I reasoned that, considering she’s an alpha leader (more like god) and her previous identity was essentially erased, it makes sense for her to be the way she is at first.
Another thing that didn’t feel fully developed for me was the relationship. At times, it leaned more toward an insta-lust vibe rather than a slow build. Still, with around ten more books in the series, there’s plenty of time for their feelings to grow and deepen.
4.25 stars. This is such an addictive series. Ok, this review is for book one, but I read all three at once. Just couldn’t stop, those cliffhangers at each end! I know, I was warned about them in the blurb but still. So, here is my warning, if you start the series be prepared that you might just want to read them all at once. And yes, now I have to wait for book 4, which is quite frustrating. Another thing, this is an omegaverse series and contains g!p content and is likely not to everyone’s liking. You can check the authors blog for more info on omegaverse and g!p and decide for yourself whether this is something for you.
In this book you’re introduced to Kander, the world of the Kalmar, a species that define themselves as either Alpha or Omega. Although they are rather human looking their behavior is far more primal and is has resemblances to behavior described in some shape shifter novels. Kalatas is the god of Kander, which resides partly in the 1 leader of the Kalmar, the Alpha god or Kal, which is one of the main characters in this series. Earth is destroyed and part of the human population lives on Kander. Charlie, another main in the series is a human that grew up on Kander, but has long since left the planet to work as a mercenary in the galaxy. Charlie doesn’t have the best memories of her time on Kander and the last thing she wants is to return, but a job to retrieve a kidnapped Omega brings her back to Kander. When Kal and Charlie meet the chemistry is sizzling, although a romance between the two is not the main storyline of this book.
I found the kidnapping storyline very interesting with some good action scenes on and of the planet Kander and the book has a good pace. Even though the book has a separate plot, the plot is also the beginning of a bigger story that will continue in the next books (hence the cliffhanger). The same holds true for the romance between Charlie and Kal, in fact there is not much of a romance in this book. There is attraction, very hot sex, and a foundation for something more between Charlie and Kal. If you’re looking for a book with sci-fi, action and steamy sex (with a specific kink), then this one is certainly recommended.
Hmmmm, I have mixed feelings. Maybe like a 3.25 stars? Not quite 3.5. I'd heard about this for a while, and wasn't super interested in trying it, because I really don't vibe with any type of omegaverse storylines. I tried one of the author's other books (Of Gold and Iron) and did enjoy it, but I didn't see myself reading more of her a/b/o stuff? But then I bought the audiobook at some point (I don't even remember why) and if I buy something, I'm going to read it.
And like, it was good. I could definitely see a universe in which this gets an even higher rating from me, but there are several things holding me back. I didn't really get along with the writing? Something about it felt very clunky and artificial. This is an incredibly silly nitpick, obviously subjective, but I don't really like it when, when characters are speaking in a different language, the author frequently writes in one or two words in said different language. In this case, a made-up alien language. Perhaps it was because it sounded so phonetically goofy to me? "Ja" and "joh" and "ta" and whatnot. Idk, something about it messed up my flow, in a way that I don't think would have happened with actual languages. Look, I said it was a stupid nitpick. But even beyond that, nothing about the writing stuck out to me or did anything special. I found myself nitpicking at a lot of small things (the use of the word 'orbs' for 'eyes'...) which tends to happen when other things about a book just aren't engaging me.
Again, I'm just not a fan of the whole omegaverse thing. I think it has a potential to be interesting in a sci-fi setting, especially since we're dealing with aliens who have a different concept of gender than humans. But instead, the worldbuilding around the gender stuff was boring and mildly disappointing. We'll probably learn more in other books, but for now, it seems to be set up like 'people with dicks = alphas' and 'people without dicks = omegas'. Which I kinda hate. I'm not saying that this was the intent, but it felt like we were just leaving one binary for another. Also, I got annoyed every time Charlie mentioned that Kal was soooooo~ much more reasonable and clear-headed than the other alphas, specifically because she's female. The dichotomy again, of alphas being all grrrrrr and uncontrollable and unreasonable, while omegas are gentle and softer and kinda. Man. I really don't like it. So binary. This didn't have all of the biological imperative stuff that a lot of omegaverse books do, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened more often as the series progressed.
With all my nitpicks, I think I just talked myself down to a 3 star. Not that this was bad! The plot involves Charlie and her small mercenary band being hired to rescue a kidnapped omega, and Charlie becomes entangled with Kal, the alpha god of this world. A lot of setup for stuff that could potentially be interesting down the line. And the sex scenes were really hot, so there's that. I liked the characters fine, though Charlie really got on my nerves a few times. It sometimes felt like she was deliberately misunderstanding the people around her. And I get that Kal's ways are foreign and frustrating to her, but it was also frustrating to me that she just expected Kal to change immediately. But her pushiness did open up some new doors and new conversations, and I did like that confrontation she had with Dorlin, her childhood friend, in the latter half. Also, if I didn't know better, I would think this was going to be why-choose. I do love a childhood friends to lovers arc. But I liked Kal best of all (I'm simple, big muscly ladies are catnip to me), and there seems to be a lot to uncover there. This was another case where I was glad that the book was written in single POV. I liked that so much of Kal is still a mystery.
All that said, I'm not sure if I'll continue the series? The writing just doesn't compel me, and I'm sure there will be other things that'll frustrate me. Listened to the audiobook as read by Abby Craden, who is always phenomenal, and I think if I were to continue, I'd want to keep listening? But as of right now, there are no more audiobooks, alas. IDK, I'll think about it. The books all seem to be pretty short, and it'd be an easy series to binge. I'm just not sure if it'd keep my attention the whole time. And I know for sure some of the a/b/o stuff would ick me out. I guess we'll see!
I've learned about myself that I'll read just about anything as long as there's a promise of romance and sex, and this story delivered big time.
The sexual tension was palpable between the Alpha God, Kal, and human Charlie. I could read about them until the cows came home. Charlie wasn't a submissive, quiet human. She was a fighter, a go-getter, and a badass, but when it came to Kal, she turned weak in the knees. This story was a thrilling ride with combat action, flight action, bedroom action mixed with a hint of sarcasm and sweetness. If you enjoy sci-fi erotica, then check this whole series out.
Well, then... that was unexpected. Aside from the surprise that popped up, I quite liked this book. The characters personalities were all interesting and the whole Alpha God thing was peculiar, but it made sense at the same time.
I'm not sure people can overlook the unexpected surprise... but I hope they give it a try 'cause it was a pretty bad ass story.

I loved the first book and can’t wait to read the next one. I bought the whole series based on the reviews of those I follow on Goodreads. I highly recommend this book and this author.
Another good omegaverse tale from Lexa Luthor. The series is 8 books long so there's lots more to explore. I like the characters and world building. None of it sweeps me off my feet, though. I will continue the series.
This is a personal preference but I like reading lesbian/ f-f characters. This book didn’t have that so I DNF. Nothing on the story telling part. It was good, I was very interested until I realised the above mentioned factor is not on the book.
So I put off this review for a while because I wasn't not sure how to approach it. Before I start listing things like like I'm a newbie to this genre and this is outside of my reader wheelhouse, I want to say that I won't make any excuses (well, I kind of just did). Anyway. Because this genre is new to me, I don't know how to rate this book. I felt the writing itself was good and the pacing was quick. I felt like I wanted more story besides a fetch quest (the story ended quite abruptly and felt more like a piece of a whole book which would be available in another volume, but maybe the story is not the point, if you catch my drift ;-)) even though there was a lot of worldbuilding, which is impressive considering the size of this book. I did feel like the characters lacked character. All in all, this is probably a great book for romance genre fans, and considering the average star rating is 4.27, it's definitely loved by them.
Enjoyed but not what I was expecting however would highly recommend
If you like sci fi and can handle characters that are different to the norm and you like an action packed story with characters you can care about then you will enjoy this a lot. Warning tho.... significant cliffhanger!
Altho it is a FF pairing and I was expecting an les sci fi that’s not all it is. I was surprised to find out the Kal wasn’t everything I had thought she was. I enjoyed having my mind expanded and came to care for the characters. The steamy sex scenes were done really well and altho a ‘male’ appendage isn’t my thing I was able to enjoy other aspects of the scene that really did work me, hot dominate sex is sexy when well done, and it was well done. Also having a a Kal as a female totally worked for me as well. It also worked for this storyline, after all these people are aliens. I did find the strong female Alpha Kal and the way it was written was really well done. I would read book 2 and am looking forward to it.
I just loved this book, I’m giving it 4.5 stars. I deducted.5 star for the horrible, lol (very good) cliff hanger ending. I liked this take on Omegaverse. You don’t see a non Omega character(so far) as the love interest for the Alpha. I love the human Charlie’s character, she’s not your typical weak omega. Charlie is a mercenary that hired to find a kidnapped Omega from the planet Kander. The leader of the Alpha’s is the Alpa that Charlie has an immediate attraction to Kal and Kal is the supreme ruler of Kander. I could really feel the attraction between these 2 characters and the sex scenes were well done. I can’t wait to find out what happens with this series. I’m wondering if Charlie is going to turn out to be some type of unknown breed of omegas. I can’t wait to find out who betrayed her and killed her crew. Great book overall.

So I’ve only really read omega verse when it’s been tied in with fan fiction- Specifically Arcane which as a side note there’s some great omega verse fics on Archive of our Own so definitely look there if you enjoy those. So! That said I don’t have much experience into the genre as far as books go. That disclaimer out there I totally enjoyed this book. Even though Kal can be kind of cold at times she and Charlie definitely have chemistry that grows into some straight fire spice and I’m here for it. The world building is solid and you get a good understanding of the cultures in the book and their roles in this story. The twists that we get- for me - weren’t predictable and also weren’t over the top to make it ridiculous. I enjoyed the neat bow on the end of the story followed by the thing that literally pushes you into wanting to pick up the next book immediately… which I will be if that wasn’t clear. So yeah- 10/10 for sure!
4 out of 5 stars CONTENT WARNING FOR THIS BOOK INCLUDE: Violence including the use of firearm like weapons, threats of torture, and kidnapping. Also as an omegaverse book, one of the central characters is a female alpha with a penis. (If you don't know what an omegaverse book means i encourage you to do some research before purchase in case of any issues)
I usually would like to wait at least a few days to get my thoughts together before I write a review but seeing as I am starting book 2 immediately I thought I would go ahead and write this. This book was closer to getting 3.5 stars but in the end the world building pushed me to rate it higher. This is an exceptional book with issues that are fairly noticable but it still manages to be a compelling and interesting story. Let me start with this, the book does not feel complete, to me it feels like the first half of a larger book. The "major conflict" isn't nearly built up and is resolved just as quickly. The epilogue serves as a tacked on cliffhanger that feels like it comes out of nowhere just to signal "hey there will be a book 2!!" The crew members of the main ship The Pacifica feel like they receive one word descriptors and nothing more. In spite of all of this I am drawn in and enjoyed reading it so much I have already bought book 2 to read more. While i realize they were released separately a part of me wishes books 1 and 2 could be combined to tell a more complete story. The things this book does right are the emotions and intents of the two mains Kal and Charlie. Charlie may seem like the textbook merc without a care type but underneath is a believable sense of loss and fear the pulls you into her story. All in all if this book sparks your interest I would say go ahead only if you intend to purchase at least the next novel and possibly the third but I cannot say that for sure since I have not read book 2
