Amicus Horrors

Rate this book
Amicus Productions, which turned out some of the best British horror films ever, was just a small two-man operation … and both of those men were American! Yet they were responsible for classics like "Dr. Terror's House of Horrors," "The House That Dripped Blood," "From Beyond the Grave," "Asylum," "Scream and Scream Again" and so many others. In "Amicus Horrors," reporter Brian McFadden gives you a first-hand account of what it was like to be there all those years ago when Amicus was making horror history. You'll visit with Peter Cushing and Vincent Price, follow in the footsteps of Christopher Lee, and tour the places where these films were made, including Shepperton and Twickenham Studios and surrounding locations. So sit back, relax and enjoy these Tales from the Vault of Amicus Horrors!

Amicus is best known as the British horror-film company that isn't Hammer Films. Among the many interesting surprises in this book was that Amicus' two heads started out making rock-and-roll films, as well as such off-brand offerings as a Harold Pinter adaptation and Peter Cushing's two Doctor Who movies.
McFadden is a veteran reporter who draws heavily on time he spent at Amicus in its glory days of the early 1970s, including interviews with Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and producer Milton Subotsky. The company ran lean, mostly so it could afford good quality casts (or singing acts in the rock-and-roll days) and scripts, and the results were films such as Asylum, House that Dripped Blood and Dr. Terror's House of Horrors.
If you're an Amicus fan, this is definitely worth getting.
