When a death at a nursing home happens our amateur sleuth Meghan must get to the bottom of it. More than that she also has other issues to solve. From issues of business to love she keeps busy.
Now for once I can say she seems to at least care about the case and actually does some reasoning to help solve the case. Normally Meghan is more of a vehicle for the story than a fleshed-out character. This time she seems to have more involvement and more motivation than normal. It was good to see.
While there was still little sleuthing and the killer was easy to identify, the mystery itself was interesting and the characters seem more interactive than average for this series. Once again a positive change.
The secondary mystery in the book was more of a humorous mishap than anything. Though it did make for some interesting issues for the characters. Afterall coffins are not Truly Sweet… like everything else in the book.
Overall, things are trending up for series with a good installment. I liked this one more than most if not all of the others. While it still only ranks as average, I’m happy to have read it and am looking forward to the next one.
Bakery and funeral services, wait...what?? That's exactly what Meghan thought when her bakery started getting weird phone calls and emails. Along with this interesting side mystery was the main mystery of a death at the nursing home. And of course, it wasn't just anyone's relative, it had to be difficult Sally Sheridan's aunt. But since Meghan had made a truce with her some time ago, she felt compelled to sleuth it out with her pal Jackie. That and Sally kinda insisted. ;)
The answer to the mysterious calls and emails was a huge surprise to me. As far as the killer goes, I'd guessed someone completely different, but after I thought about it, the actual person didn't surprise me being who they were.
When it came out who was behind the emails and funeral service phone calls, it eventually turned out to be a truly sweet new friendship for the bakery.
A murdered senior citizen. A dirty fight to claim the deceased’s assets. Can a small-town bakery owner ask the right questions to reveal the real killer? Meghan Truman must decide to do the right thing and get involved or not. The murdered victim left a mark, good and bad on several people in Sandy Bay. Can Meghan figure out the murder?
This was a light-hearted read. Years ago I was a Navy baker. Thus the reason I downloaded this book. Mouth-watering scenes. Quirky characters. A touch of romance. All the reasons I enjoyed this story.
Rating: G No cliffhanger, swearing or graphic scenes!
I listened to this book. I found it quirky and interesting. The romance dialog seems a little hokey but I can live with it.
All the babe references between Jack & Meghan had “I’ve Got You, Babe” ear wormed for a few hours.
We have a few mysteries to solve: Why is the bakery getting calls for coffins? Did Mrs. Sheridan’s aunt die of natural causes, if not, what happened. The story behind Mark Tilley.
In investigating Mrs. Sheridan’s disdain for her cousin Mark, a lot of dirty family secrets are rolled out. These point back to the aunt’s support of Mark all these years.
Muffins and Coffins: Sandy Bay Cozy Mystery, Book 13, my fourteenth read from author Amber Crewes. Well-written & enjoyable. another cute, clean cozy mystery. I really enjoy the development of the supporting characters over the course of the series. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal variety & inflections of narrator Elena Marino who has become the voice for Meghan Truman. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Meghan starts getting strange emails and text messages at the bakery asking about coffins and funeral services. At first it seems to be a prank until she finds it is a mistake in the local funeral home web site. While this is going on mrs Sheridan finds out her aunt has died at the local high end nursing home. Meghan digs into this and brings it to a surprise ending. A fun read.
I found this to be a well-written short story with a great storyline and interesting characters. For some reason, Meghan's bakery is receiving calls and emails about coffins. Bakeries don't sell coffins. When a friend's aunt dies in a luxury retirement home, there is no shortage of suspects.
Why is Meghan getting calls about coffins? Surely they know Truly Sweets is a bakery? Get ready to roll out some family scandals as Meghan hunts down the why to this as well as another death in Sandy Bay~
A clean cozy that will make your mouth water. (I personally love muffins.) This is a relatively short cozy that has a death , (maybe by murder), long held family grudges, and lovable characters. I was gifted this from the author.
The story starts out with a mystery, many e-mails and calls for coffins from Meghan's shop and ends with a murder. The coffin mix-up ends up leading to the killer. Interesting twists and turns throughout.
The bakery is receiving calls for funeral services. Meghan is concerned as to why all of a sudden her business is being targeted. Is someone playing a joke or is she in danger. Another great read by this author.
This is a series I started a while back. I enjoyed it, but sort of dropped it. Decided to catch up, and am glad I did. I'm enjoying catching up now, more to go.
