DONALD D. ALLAN is an award-winning author for the New Druids epic fantasy series. He is best known for his knowledge of just about everything – just ask him, he’ll tell you. He takes being a geek to massively huge geek levels – like level twelve. That’s pretty high. Mostly, he’s an introvert pretending to be an extrovert and so far, he’s fooling everybody. Wine helps.

He loves lying around and planning his next activities, such as yard work, house repairs, cleaning, cooking, etc. He plans a lot, but never really completes it. But planning is everything. He does complete novels though, and that surprises most people. They say “YOU wrote a book?”

Donald lives with his wife Marilyn, son James, daughter Katherine, and dog Woody, in Ottawa, Canada. Yup, he’s Canadian. Respect.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Stories about Druids have been a favorite for years. The story was interesting and the characters well drawn. I recommend this book and am glad I won this through Goodreads.

Brent Bairstow is running the country of Belkin as Regent, and holding the throne for Edward until his lineage could be proven so he could be crowned King. However every decision Brent took was turned into a political battle and he was tired of it all. He trusted no one and he knew that no one trusted him. Brent was also becoming a religious fanatic and Eylene, an aspiring and very ambitious vicar was influencing all his decisions, till she had him completely under her thumb. Her intentions were to have the Church of the New Order take command and rule over the country and to do away with the monarchy completely! She was totally ruthless and evil and she had Lana and Kennit, two draoi, turning against their own people and working with her. So the country is in turmoil, and the draoi are fighting amongst themselves. Will is being manipulated by Kennit so much so that his bond with Nadine is completely severed! When Gaea had decided that her work was done and that she wanted to be killed off a faction of the draoi had not agreed and they used this excuse to cause the rift. Katherine and dog in the meantime are travelling with Heather and James to look for Edward’s lineage and Katherine and Dog are now a force to be reckoned with! Both Simon and Gaea wanted her to become the Cill Darea but she was scared of all the power the Simon motes were giving her, as with power came a lot or responsibility! This is such a powerful book with parts which were full of tension and strife, the evil characters are all that and more, the greed for power and the struggle between church and state is enormous, with a lot of backstabbing and treachery, but the heroic actions of Katherine, Dog, Heather and James more than balance the evil out! The situation seems very dire at the end of this book but the draoi retain hope and I for one just need to read the final book in this amazing series which has been a pleasure to read right from the start, so bring on book 6.

Donald D. Allan’s writing has grown from strength to strength with each volume of The New Druids Series. The series has re-ignited my interest in this genre of book. Each volume eagerly anticipated, none have disappointed. No spoilers, but I highly recommend Cill Darae, you will not be disappointed. Can’t wait for volume Six, 2020 is a long way off!
