Dreary and plodding, this love story across time, between a young novelist and the older woman and famous dramatist Lillian Hellman, never captures one's attention or the heart, despite being penned by the man who lived it. There's some sharp dialogue along the way, but the May-December relationship showcased feels stilted, robbed of honesty in favor of romanticism (which isn't justified beyond the assurances of love by the two people who lived it). The characters in the play are at turns flat and fiesty, but you'll never understand why, or what their relationship means on a grander scale, for you as the reader.

Excellent audio edition with superb casting and music. The story was intriguing and sometimes dismal & maddening, but when you’re dealing with real people, how much can you change and be true to reality? Did not know much about the real people in this play and neither’s life was a cakewalk. So aptly named!
