FLAWLESS DANGER (The Spencer & Sione Series, #1) by Rachel Woods is a thriller/mystery with romantic elements that I have very mixed feelings about. The writing is well done with very short change of point of view chapters to keep the story moving. The characters are my personal problem. Just as in Gone Girl, if I don’t like the characters, I don’t enjoy the book. No matter how many times you tell me Spencer had a terrible childhood, and it was too many times, I couldn’t warm up to her.

The thriller/mystery has Spencer being blackmailed by Ben Chang to get close to Belize resort owner, Sione, and steal back an envelope he claims belongs to him. She is also sent on side delivery jobs for him to three women with a bag containing a fake passport and money. All these women end up murdered. This lands Spencer in the middle of a power struggle between Ben and Richard, who is Sione’s father. Although Sione is trying to change his life, all of these men are dangerous and deadly criminals. And Spencer is no saint, either. It is sort of like a criminal soap opera.

The plot was what kept me reading, but it does drag at times. I would not call it a romantic suspense, as some have, because the love is all based on omission and lies so that was a problem for me. If you are into these types of characters, you will enjoy this book and there are more to follow because this does end on a cliffhanger of sorts.

Hot; charged with suspense; mysterious!!!

Amazing cover, great title. It was the perfect beginning for this story. We can see the setting, feel the danger, sense the heat!
Fast-paced read, that kept me guessing and ended wanting more. In fact, I'm really looking forward for book two. There were so many things left unsaid, that I already can envision trouble in the near future. How can a love story survive so many secrets? I know Ms. Woods is going to make it with a great spin to it.
Three main sub-plots that nicely merge into one. Sort of like tying loose ends. The author masterfully wrote this story with no typo mistakes, very cohesive and no weak points that I can remember.
Both Spencer and Sione kept me into a love/hate relationship. They have really played with my emotions taking me from one extreme to the other. Ben is also a great secondary character.
The HEAT is on!!! :) Really, this is hot! The couple's chemistry is combustible. Their attraction seems fatal. In fact, I think Spencer is a very sexually woman, since all men go crazy, almost obsessively, for her.
This was a hard to put down book. Quiet addictive read!

Review 2

This book is number one of a series. If felt almost like a serial, with so many secrets left to solve and a lot of things to be understood yet.
Nobody is really good or totally bad on this book. Really the love and hate relationship I had with the character was amazing. :) But I still have to take a tiny star for those moments that I wanted to go slap their faces and tell them to wake up. Really, who would follow that sister?

You MAY buy this book because you like suspense; you SHOULD buy this book because you like steamy romance; you MUST read this book because you like your romance with a lot of spice on it and a dash of danger!!!

What was in Spencer’s past dark closet. Goodreads only
Houston, TX. Spencer Edwards (23) was not really sure what to think about Benjamin “Ben” Chang (entrepreneur).

Why is she headed to the Belizean Banyan Resort (BBR, San Ignacio, Belize)?
What did Spencer tell Sione “John” Tuiali’I (BBR resort owner/mgr.)?
Tommy Fong (Asian thug) had tried to attack Spencer in her room. Sione had saved her from sudden death.
Sione had called David “D.J.” Jones (Sione’s cousin, security firm owner, PI) to come investigate the mishap.
Moana Sione’s ex-fiancée had been kliied in a prison riot.

What did Peter Rios (cousin) tell Sione?
What happened to Maxine Porter (boutique attendant, deliverer, Estrella Estates # 309), Carla Garcia (Kwik Kash employee, Black Orchid Inn # 442), & (Ben’s on/off-again lover, Kwik Kash employee)?

What is Ben (Kwik Kash payday loan business co-owner, Houston) or Richard Tuiali’i (Sione’s father, Kwik Kash payday loan business co-owner, Houston) involved in?
& then Karen Nelson?

How will this scenario turn out?
Was Sione realted to everyone? 

Warning: This book contains extremely graphic adult content, violence, or expletive language &/or uncensored sexually explicit material which is only suitable for mature readers. It may be offensive to some readers.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this (prequel novella) book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written romantic crime mystery book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great romantic crime mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. Kind of cheesy at times but I seemed to like it so I will still rate it at 4/5 stars.

I give this book 3.5 stars because it had some really good elements. I liked the character of Sione and although she is unlikable in the beginning, I liked Spencer. The reader gets more insights and knowledge about her as the book progresses and it helps to bridge that initial disconnect with her that formed with me in the early chapters of the book. The mystery of the reasons why Ben sent Spencer to Sione was a good plot element, but it started to get a little stale. Sadly, Ben's character lapses too much into a cliche with his dialogue but he makes for an interesting character. It did feel like there were plot elements that were not strictly necessary (Sione's ex and the sub-plot) because it made the story a little too muddled.

However, that being said, I began to really enjoy the book about half way through. Stick with it past the first few chapters, and you'll see more of what makes Spencer tick, which makes the character more palatable.

I received this book free as an ARC for my honest review.

Spencer Edwards hasn’t had the greatest start to life with a terrible childhood, she is desperate for money and blows her last interview for a decent job. She meets Ben Chang after the interview while she is sitting on a park bench. She usually doesn’t date, but she dates him. Ben finds out that she has stolen money and a Rolex watch from him, so he uses video footage of the theft to blackmail her in a downward spiral of wrongs. Sione Tuiali’I is the resort owner and manager of San Ignacio, Belizean Banyan Resort that Spencer is staying at while she is completing her missions for Ben. While Spencer is completing each mission she is drawn in a more dangerous web that her

This is my first time in reading this author with the storyline grabbing my attention. Little did I know I would fight off and on with myself to read and then not read this one because I get mad at it in parts. I also missed that I should of read a short one before this one so maybe I could of not gotten so mad. Spencer is quite a piece of work I do say. She is the one that I can not believe sometimes the choices she makes but understand because it is part of the story. This also has a bit of darkness in it, I noticed this when you first see her and Ben and what goes on. The light in this one is Sione/John even though he is a character also. This is filled to the brim with danger and intrigue with something happening every time you turn around. That is one of the reasons I did not quit this one is it keeps you on your toes. By the time you reach the wrap up on this one I want to see if different paths can go forth. Needless to say I had a love/hate relationship with this one but would read more.

Your past will haunt you forever. Spencer thought that she had found a guy that she could like but she did something stupid, she tried to steal from him and shot him. She wanted to run but Ben found her and she needs to pay for her mistake. Ben's isn't a nice man, he is a violent criminal that will use Spencer to get what he wants. She owes him now and he will get his reward.
She has been sent to Belize on a mission and it isn't what she thinks. She will meet there women that will be killed and she fears that she is next, she just can't understand why Ben would have had them killed.
Sione knows that there is something going on with Spencer but he can't just believe that she is into something illegal, he can't go down this path again. He has already been lied to and used by a woman and that didn't end well. He knows that she is hiding something but that doesn't stop him from wanting to be with her.
Can Spencer ever tell him the truth? She knows that he won't want anything to do with her, she isn't a nice person. she is a liar, thief and connected to Ben. There is history between Sione & Ben don't understand it all right now but Richard the father seems to be the link here.
What will become of them as Ben will never let Spencer go until he gets what he wants and Sione needs answers?
The story was abit hard to follow at times but I got there in the end. I hope that Spencer can get away from Ben and that Sione can forgive her as I think that they both deserve happiness. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

When Spencer makes an unforgivable error and betrays a man she cares about, it sends her on a path of redemption she may not survive.

There were many good elements to this storyline, but I found it hard to believe or care in these characters. The writing is somewhat disjointed. Maybe this shouldn’t be the first in the series as I lost track of what was going on more than once.

The descriptions are good, but as a lead character Spencer leaves me cold. She is a thief, a scheming liar, and money hungry. Not much to like.

That said, she’s had a rough past and is doing her best to overcome the mistakes she’s made.

I would need more background in order to get a better appreciation of these characters.

this is the first book in the series and what a fantastic start it is. This book has lots of suspense and mystery in the story. This book is amazing from the beginning to the very last page. This book has fab characters which have very hot chemistry between them making the pages set alight as you read. This is a very addictive read you'll wont want to put down. I cant wait to read more from this author in the future.

Spencer is not a very nice woman who gets involved with not very nice men, Ben, Tommy, and Sione (John). There is a repetitiveness or perhaps obsessiveness to certain plot details. Crimes and violence are prevalent throughout out the story. Written at about a ninth grade level, there are sexual components.
