So, this is pure, campy fun.

Our team of soldiers is a blast - lots of patter and slightly cheesy dialogue to make you smile.

Our critters are amped up. They're the critters you expect - just much, much more extreme. And the reason behind them is just as extreme.

Expect non-stop action, blood, general gruesomeness, and a lot of smiles.

Definitely a fun read!

Editors needed, stat! And maybe some uncommon sense.

Oh boy! Spellcheck saved us from a lot of spelling mistakes, but grammar went out the window.

As Popeye once said, "That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more." At 55% through, I just couldn't read one more page of this drivel. I don't care what happens to the dummies in this story. Let the 20 foot tall yetis eat them all.

Benny and Luna take the left... Exactly two sentences after that: Luna and Benny hurried to the right... That one was funny.

General Kyle steeped into Cujo's sightline. Hehe.

...soon finding himself floating on sardonic waves... HUH?

The whole story so far, is littered with silly mistakes like this, plus a whole lot of plot holes and things that are just plain wrong. They have a "snow tank" with a main gun, and yet when the monster was 40 yards in front of them, it was out of range and had to be at 30 meters (yes, he swapped from imperial to metric). If 40 yards is out of range, my old pop gun could do better than that!

It's plain to see, that our author did zero research, zero editing and almost zero thinking. Someone wasn't paying attention in English class. Get an editor, mate. Get a proofreader while you're at it.

This is the first book I wanted to give zero stars to.

Really liked....but

Really fun story. Very interesting read and looking forward to more books in the series.
But
There really should have been someone revising this book for continuity. The guy in charge first talks about being upset by a death, Then again talks about a death as if prior comment was never made. First says divorced after wife ran off with rich guy, then later after long marriage wife dies of cancer? Book ends one way. Then end blurb of “ending” in a paragraph retells the ending completely different?
Theses are very Very obvious errors that anyone (and there are many more throughout) would notice them. Did this author not have bata readers, an editor, or even just go over after was finished?!? Apparently not! Really needs going over and a rewrite to fix plentiful errors in continuity! Seriously!

Sloppy sloppy sloppy

Is cujo a marine or a green beret? If he's 6'4" and Macy is four inches taller, that makes her 6'8"!? was he married two years or twenty years? Its like this clown didn't even bother to proof his own material. He obviously doesn't know about the military or basic tactics.

"missing link" is a term that was used in the seventies and before. Neanderthals were a separate species no less developed than homosapiens. There is no missing link. This clown obviously knows nothing about paleontology.

Oddly enough , he's inspired me to write, because if this steaming turd was able to get published there's hope for anyone.

B-Movie story and not sure how accurate the military scenes are, but an easy enjoyable read. Perfect for a flight or palate cleanse.
I’ll happily continue the series.

Thrilling and suspenseful!

This is my first Yeti book I’ve ever read! I’ve done Bigfoot books before but not Yetis. So this was a nice new venture for me.

I loved the characters in this book, especially Cujo. Each one had a personality all their own and as they began working together, their personal idiosyncrasies came out and made them more real for the reader. Further, as the story progressed, I enjoyed watching their interplay and seeing how they learned to work together. This author definitely has a way of crafting well-rounded characters. I wish I could have seen more of that actually, but since this is a first book in what I assume is a series, and I know there’s a sequel already, I expect that the reader will have an opportunity to get to know these characters even deeper.

As far as the story went, this could easily have been a predictable copy of dozens of other Cryptid type books of its kind, but the author managed to make his approach authentic with a couple of twists and turns that made it new and unique.

If I had any complaints at all, I did note a few line edit issues and one spot where a couple paragraphs were repeated accidentally, but read over it and enjoy the story. The pacing was great...carrying me right along through all the exciting elements and events.

The ending was a surprise to me on a couple of levels and I’ll be interested to see the direction the sequel takes. Another good one by this author! Very enjoyable.

Could have used an editor or at least a layout

The story was good, I enjoyed it but there was a lot of stuff that could have used some more research. The discipline of military personnel, the main character's romantic life, there were a lot of things that just didn't fit with things.

I will probably read the second book, I love military cryptic fiction but I hope the author does a better job of keeping the story together.

How did this make it past and editor

Holy crap, this was something. This is a novel version of a SyFy B monster movie. Overall the story itself is pretty good. Military group goes up to the Artic and battles yetis. Fairly simple you'd think. But the author appears to be someone had a bunch of ideas for the book but never did any actual research for it. Just thought "yeah this sounds cool" and went with it. So let us begin with the problems.

Cujo is the main character who is apparently 59, leading combat missions, and leads a platoon. Definitely an older protagonist, which wasn't necessary for the book, and there's no way someone of that age would be leading an active combat mission. The two females of the cryptid group are from the SEALS and Delta Force, neither of which is currently allowed, one of whom is described as being four inches taller than Cujo, putting her at 6'8. Maze is also an insufferable b**ch the entire book. There's virtually no character growth for her. She's just a b**ch to be a b**ch. Cujo says he was also a Green Beret, despite never previously mentioned going from the Army to the Marines, then mentions it again in a way that makes it seem like he's currently a Green Beret. It quickly became apparent the author has no idea how the military works or the different branches. There's a lot of excessive and overused commas, along with a ton of editing mistakes, including a big section at the very end of the novel that appears to be the author's notes on how the book ends, but shouldn't have been included in the final draft. During the operation prep, someone says they are two miles away. Once they land, they are suddenly 20 miles away. It then takes the team over 2 hours to travel 20 miles to the base, despite going 60mph. It's okay, maths are hard. And then there's another hour tacked on before they reach the facility. Two team members decide to take a nap in the middle of a search and rescue mission, something that is incredibly dangerous given what they're looking for, and something that no actual special forces member would do without relaying it to their teammates. The author also seems to think Delta Force and Green Berets are the same thing. A simple Google search would have fixed a ton of these errors. At one point, Luna calls a M16 an AR, so clearly the author knows nothing about guns as well.

Like I said at the beginning, the main story is fairly simple and good. But the author didn't do any research for this and just put down things he thought sounded cool, but anyone with two brain cells could see something was wrong. It's really disappointing and upsetting to read books like this where authors don't take their time and do even basic research. I'll give the next book a chance and hopefully it's better but if not, I'm done with the series.

This book would fall into the category of books I had to force myself to finish, not because of the story itself but mainly because of the numerous mistakes. The story as a whole definitely has potential, but at least for me, everything was overshadowed by the sloppy work with the writing. Grammatical errors, unlikeable characters, and most importantly, THE PLOT HOLES!

The character design is stereotypical, but not in a fun way. Most of the characters seem really bland and unrealistic, joking around too much in life or death situations. Shooting corny sarcastic remarks at each other when they should be shooting their guns. This would be fine in moderate doses, but here, humour seems to be used as a distraction from the silly mistakes. There is a small team of main characters, but we still spend most of our time talking about only maybe three of them, conveniently forgetting about the rest until after the action scene. The main character, Cujo, while trying to be relatable and likeable, is positioning himself far away from that. Forced inner monologues about getting softer with age, being old, and constant pondering about the inevitability of death are just too annoying.

Another thing that takes away from the story is the clear lack of research and planning done beforehand. There are fancy words thrown around, lot of military and science talk, but again, the information hardly makes sense. Cool and expensive technology that is able to withstand a warhead blast but breaks when a monster pounds on it. Or the station having its roof torn off but still being able to maintain a temperature of minus whatever degrees.

Finally, my biggest complaint would be the sheer existence of gigantic plot holes. There should have been someone proofreading the book and catching those errors before the book was published. Some of those mistakes are just a few lines from each other and can be spotted so easily! Cujo's wife dying from cancer and then miracously resurrecting just to divorce him, the constant change in the monsters number, jumps from the imperial to the metric system, assigning the team to search one corridor and confidently sending them to a different one, the Snow Beasts repeatedly changing size from two person vehicles to giant tanks able to carry four people and crates of provisions...

In the end, the story idea seemed fun, and if executed properly, it would be a great book. This, unfortunately, ended up being less than mediocre work littered with obvious errors in grammar, plot, and unchecked facts. This whole book felt like something that was hastily written and published just because the idea sounded cool on paper.

Having said that, I'll give a chance to the next book in the series, hoping that it shows some progress and improvement.

I've been a fan of military horror, but not so much of cryptids so I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this first-of-a-series story.

I enjoyed the intros to the team and immediately began hating one of the members and of course hoping they would be killed off or LEARN THEIR LESSON later on, but no spoilers. lol

As a lover of gore, I think there was not much as I had (eagerly) anticipated and the death count was lower than I preferred, but I am a sick person in that regard. There are lots more tactical-type scenes and a decent array of weaponry. Maybe I'd like to have seen more use of incidental weapons or something, but the added effect of fighting nature alongside the enemy was welcome.

Somehow I feel a weird sense of humor permeating the author's words, maybe some spirit of gallows humor that haunts it. Maybe I imagine it, but I'd be interested to see if other readers agree.

Overall, the team has to go check out a place in a ridiculously freezingly cold area and it's not just the legged monsters they have to fight. Was pleasantly surprised at how I cared about the leader of this squad.

A totally FUBAR

I was truly disappointed in the story it had potential but kept getting ruined by dumb actions and plot holes. The story shows them going to a military funded place but not one signal person things study a map of the place or to bring infrared cameras for there guns when they going to to cold area and I was disappointed in Cujo for not even checking if any of team had been threw any winter warfare training. Then there was the part that hinted of teams that secretly dealt with monsters/cryptids for U.S.A but the general just throws together a team with no expertise in this type of battles instead using professional to hunt the creatures.

I wise to say to the author that when designing chacthers they have base actions such has soldiers should use military jargon for actions and planing but I felt a complete lack of military mindset in battles expect for the first ch I was disappointed in that drop in chacther design.

A stale choppy story with deficient writing.

The only good thing about this small novel is the first pages, starting with an interesting setup and an emotional punch. After that, well. At least is less than 200 pages. I'm just going to be blunt and say it straight: this novel reads like a AI-generated story despite having being published before the AI revolution. It is very dry, has no emotion, full of forgettable characters, dumb plotlines (and plotholes), filled with inconsistencies and very bad prose.

I tend to be lenient when it comes to this B-Movie style of novels, since I know I shouldn't expect much, but still, I'd like to at least have some form of entertainment and see the medium used well, without limitations other than imagination, but sadly, the author really lacked the imagination and we instead get a very stereotypical and generic book.

Not a fun read, at all.

CRIPTIDS

The story needs more work as well as the characters. Sending a "special group" to Alaska to search into a facility and what happened to it's people.

Cujo is the "leader" and he tried to work hard to find what happened and to keep his people alive. The story runs a little slow and weak, needs more work. The characters are in heavy need of development.

I'm giving 3⭐ cause like the the end

Good fun read!

If your looking for an enjoyable adventure look no further. I liked that is was fun with some comedy in it and did not require a bunch of thought. If you are looking for realistic book with descriptive military information and super scientificky language or can’t suspend reality then keep on looking. The author did a good job on excitement, tempo, and dialogue! Good job! I look forward to more books!

Gave up on this book after the second time that the author described a character as drifting off to sleep "on sardonic waves".

I do not think that word means whatever the heck the author thinks it means.

It didn't help that there were two different and conflicting accounts of the main character's marriage - within the first thirty pages.

If you want military vs cryptids, stick to William Meikle's S-Squad series. Much better written.

Fun and easy read. Enjoyable creature feature but it would have benefitted from proof reading and editing. Continuity and grammatical errors which were rather obvious but did not detract from the story. If you're looking for a fast paced, slightly silly book about monsters (yetis) this is the book for you! Looking forward to reading the next two in the series.

Fast action read. Love the cryptic themes.

A must read for the cryptic enthusiast crowd. It is a very well written novel. It features classic heroes against military minded villains, through in a few monsters and you have a classic in the making.

Artic Snare

Fun romp with a team of military experts that have no idea what they are getting into when called to an assignment in the artic. Things quickly go awry. The team members are interesting and humorous. A few editing errors, but not enough to distract from the story.

While this is not great literature it was a fun read. A group military personal with a Cryptobiologist are sent to the Arctic to find out what went wrong at a scientific outpost. What they find is a group of enhanced Yeti's that are causing havoc but that is not then only danger they face...

A simple story with decent action. Characters are pretty thin. Grammar and plot consistency are bad. There's an author note on how he wants to end the book at the end that he forgot to edit out. The details concerning the military are wildly inaccurate.

For the most part, good book

I love cryptid novels, so I thought I'd try this series. This first book was good & I recommend it.

That being said & not wanting to give spoilers, the author needs to keep track of the # of protagonists.

ice and monsters

Can ice monsters be worse than regular monsters
I think it. Is a type of mass hysteria. These soldiers are fighting tooth and nail but they need more intell.
What can they do. We will only know at the end of the story

What I loved was the teams personalities coming out slowly but beautifully. Lots of horror here...just read it!! I just love when monsters and heroes come together in one story. On to the next!!!

Not so good

Someone needs to do a lot of research, about, just about everything. Special forces, weapons, etc. At least it's well written.
