This is such an on time self help book. There is a little devotional for every day of the year to help you start your day off just right in a positive way. This would make a just because great gift. Right now in our days of uncertainty this is a tool to help calm you in get you in the right mindset to have a calm, productive day each day. I gave this book 4 stars and I hope that you will pick up a copy . The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are our own.
What better way to start 2020 and a new decade than with a devotional? Living Lightly is a book aimed at offering insight and reflection as you go about your day. Each day’s entry is like a stepping off point with a quote to mull over, relatable ways to improve yourself with whatever is going on and easy-to-follow techniques to add happiness and joy to your life. Dale and Kim are experienced therapists, yet they don’t preach like many other professionals in their field. Instead, they share their wisdom on what they’ve learned with a gentle spirit and a calm demeanor. Start the year off on the right foot and embrace a peace you never thought you had inside.
From the very first page, I connected with Dale and Kim. Their words soothed my spirit and I found the stress of the day slipping off my burdened shoulders. Devotionals are not alike, and this is one of the best I’ve read. Blending meditation, self-help, and compassion, Living Lightly allows the reader to discover areas of their personality they never knew existed. Focusing on self-care instead of changing the world allows the reader to gain true personal growth. Each of us deals with heartache, failure, and loss but the key to living a calm and joyful life is letting go and being in the moment. Brilliant! Highly recommend it to anyone.
Favorite Character/Quote: “We lighten when we feel compassion for everyone who struggles to live. And we are enlightened when we breathe in self-compassion.”
Kim and Dale have created a much-needed “self-help” guide filled with powerful starting points for each day of the year. I immediately connected with their objective in writing this devotional: “We can remember a time long ago when we felt like we were floating, and we want to feel light again.” The authors start each snippet by identifying an issue and then offering anecdotes, quotations, poetry, and practical strategies. While I read the entire book in two sittings, I plan to revisit many of the reflections throughout 2020 and beyond.
Living lightly is a self-help book written about ways to create happiness and calmness into your life. It approaches the matter by initially identifying that things are not going well. It asks you to step back and have a different look at the situation at hand and suggests that you change your perspective of things in order to reduce being overwhelmed, distracted, and stressed out.
The work is divided by days and begins at the start of the month. Each day provides a page filled with information, something new to learn, and food for your thoughts.
I think this a great book to have as a Christmas present or a new year’s resolution. It covers pretty much everything people ask for when they reach a new phase in their life.
There will be a time at one’s life where you sit and think, enough is enough, and at that moment, I believe, this book would become your soulmate to freedom.
The literature was easy to read and to understand. The words were helpful and caring. The book would suit a generation and is inspired by positivity and the willingness to make a difference in their lives.
Living Lightly is a beautifully written buffet of ideas with the central theme of developing positive habits in our lives. Simple changes. Easily digested. Dale Curd and Kim Alexander present a daily morsel of insight, experience and challenge the reader to elevate their connections with what they hold dear. Writing with clarity about universal experiences, it sometimes feels like they are guiding you through your own personal diaries. Their personable writing styles become distinct as the reader begins to recognize Dale and Kim’s individual voices. Like a wonderful tapas bar, they leave you wanting more. I would have appreciated an appendix with additional links to follow up on the theories, writings and research they refer to in order to dig deeper into some of the subjects. These could easily be added to their website.
Living Lightly provides a wonderful menu to focus on selecting the best parts of who we are.
What a perfect way to start the New Year! Living Lightly is a daily mind fix. Keep it by your bedside table and delve into the inner workings of your soul. Dale and Kim's book takes your heart and mind on a long journey, through a myriad of thoughts and feelings and helps you to redress past hurts and restore balance. So many parts of this wonderful book resonated with my core, in particular January 4th's text on "Life's Regrets," the February 29th entry on "Being Present" and on April 25th - The Acorn. Beautifully written and astonishingly insightful, Living Lightly is the perfect gift for anyone you love, but more importantly it's the perfect gift for you. Enjoy.
Living Lightly is a book that will resonate with everyone who picks it up. Although it is written by both Kimberly Aledander and Dale Curd, the voice on the page is a unified one, and the layout is very approachable. The advice contained within the 432 pages is practical, personal, emotional and important. Some days the focus is on doing some inner work, reflecting on past experiences, and exploring your reactions to certain situations. The revelations that result are unique to the reader, while the advice remains pertinent to all. Some days the reader is challenged, and on others, simply guided towards a feeling of calm and contentment, while encouraged to observe with intention. This year-long, daily devotional is not a journal; it's not a self help book and it's not a new year's resolution checklist. It is a book that you can take with you anywhere, at any time of year, and find meaning. Each entry is independent of the others, so you do not need to read it in order, nor begin on any particular page. I particularly enjoyed the way that the authors' personal reflections were specific and detailed, while still being able to guide me through my own inner processes. There is so much support and acknowledgement of what it means to be truly human, contained within Living Lightly, that you cannot help but feel better for having spent a bit of time with it; I highly recommend it!
Life is far from easy. Most of the time in life, we come to hurdles along our path that teach us something about ourselves or a higher truth about life. What exactly does it mean to “live lightly?” When I was asked to read Living Lightly for an honest review, I was transitioning from a heavy period of my life: yet another hurdle I could either get stuck behind out of fear, shame, and regret or one I could let open my eyes to a truth regarding learning to love myself and part of that process involved coming to the realization that in the process of letting what happened in the past go, I must forgive myself.
The first day I sat down to read Living Lightly I read the entry for that date and it was surprisingly exactly what I needed to read regarding my situation.
Living Lightly is the perfect read for five to ten minutes a day. Each entry contains an anecdote with a reflective or emotive question or a poem.
If you’ve been down, torn up, heavy-laden, Living Lightly will provide an escape and a bigger picture truth to remind us that life isn’t meant to be carried, like baggage on our shoulders but meant to be enjoyed and even more so, meant to be lived fully and completely.

Living Lightly is a book of daily guided meditations, exercises, affirmations and ponderings, all linked to the theme of wellbeing and mental health… so particularly useful in the current stressful climate (applicable to whatever date you read this, no doubt!).
You will find breathing exercises, gratitude and self-care tips about doing things that make you happy and connecting with others/nature/music. There are daily tasks to help with relaxation and creativity, and tips on how to reduce consumerism and use of technology and embrace minimalism.
I will just warn that reading the whole book in one sitting, as I did originally, is a little overwhelming! I have started again, but this time just limiting myself to the few paragraphs/section for each day and I am already finding the going a lot lighter, so this is a dip-in-and-out self-help book rather than a working-solidly-through-it one!
At the end of the book are references to psychological and wellbeing works and resources, which are useful for anyone looking to go a little further or deeper on some of the concepts raised.
I would recommend this book as a resource for anyone looking to make some general improvements to their life and outlook on life, in daily doses.
Apt self-exploration book to bring happiness and calmness to your life every day by inviting you to find doorways to your soul.
Living Lightly offers a year's worth of opportunities and wisdom for powerful inner awareness with insightful quotes, book extracts, poems, websites, and life experiences of eminent personalities. It puts our minds at ease by helping us to reflect on our lives. Lightening up is all about being aware of the choices we make to be emotionally involved or attached to people, places, events, and things.
Well written like a diary journaling covered all the facets of life which we have to deal with in our day to day life to transform, enlighten, heal, and deepen our souls with understanding and empathy. A calendar reflects the intentions we have for our year—the things we want more of and the things that deserve our attention. If it makes us smile and laugh out loud too, that’s awesome!
Worth reading and empowering to understand our innermost workings. Each page in the book has been wonderfully planned and provides you truthful answers to the questions arising in the reader's mind.
Living lightly often requires us to reflect with honesty, learn with compassion, and listen with curiosity. You discover what truly makes you the valued and perfect formula for less stressful living.
The deeper your relationship to the book, the more genuine relationship building within you.
As I have gotten older, reading daily inspirational stories and devotions has become a regular part of my morning routine. It’s incredible how the quote, story, or devotional chosen by the author is exactly what you needed to hear on that day. Similar to your multivitamin, Living Lightly provides its readers with the necessary nourishment to tune into and embrace their inner being. The daily inspirational quotes, stories, or practical techniques selected will help you deal with everyday stress, anxiety, and remind you about the power of love and kindness.
“Treat yourself with kindness. Let every thought, and every action begins with kindness. What you wear, what and how you eat, how you greet people…….let all of this be steeped in kindness.”
Living Lightly is a book that is many books in one. Each daily snippet is an adventure on its own. Sometimes I sat in silence with a single day in deep self-reflection; other times I would read a few days at once. I could hear Dale and Kim’s voices as I read and it would make me smile as I imagined their stories and realized how much I could relate. Living Lightly is a book I can go back to many times and on special occasions / dates. It’s a must-have for any book shelf and better yet beside your bed to start or end your day. Shane
A poignant and thought provoking read for starting and/or ending each day… It offers inspirational insights on the struggles that universally challenge us in our human “being-ness”; joy, grief sorrow, love, anger.. and encourages the reader through honest and heartfelt reflection to be mindful of the choices we have in who we are, who we want to be, and how we want to show up in our lives and in our relationships.. do we want to be weighted down by the all pervasive fear deeply embedded into our default programs or will we choose to live lightly - bringing joy, freedom and acceptance?
This book is a precious gift to your self, a breath of fresh air that brings a smile to your face and a feeling of peace & love to your heart anytime you need it.
Life can be stressful and overwhelming, Living Lightly brings you back to the present and reminds you of the beauty of life and the power that is within you.
You are in control of creating an amazing life, and this book is a tool a guide to help you do so, to be your very best every day.
It will be there for me whenever I need it. A fantastic start for my meditation of the day! I love it, a must-have!
This book is literally a huge breath of fresh air! In today's high tech, high anxiety, and high pressure world, most of us have forgotten how to be kind to ourselves. Kim and Dale have gently reminded us all to take some time, enjoy the now, tune back into all of our senses, de-stress and uncomplicate things. To listen, laugh, and be grateful. To re-challenge ourselves. Try something new. Breathe...Live Lightly.
A beautifully crafted daily awakening that I will come back to time and time again. A refreshing, much-needed “wellness” book that doesn’t ask you to change yourself but gently encourages you to partake in a journey of self-reflection and acceptance one day at a time. We are all products of our upbringing, past-experiences and current environment but Living Lightly affirms to us that we have the strength to choose to take each day as our own and offers insights into shaping our perspective anew which is a true gift.
Living Lightly is a thought provoking collection of daily musings that feel like a sip of warm tea and honey for the heart, a breath of fresh air for the mind, and a gentle remembering for the soul. Thank you Kim and Dale for co-creating this beautiful book of mindful reminders that have the power to bring a lightness in even the seemingly darkest of moments.
Life has become unnecessarily complex without time to reflect on why. I had so many aha moments allowing me to STOP and realize it doesn’t have to be this way. It‘s now become my daily devotional the first thing I read before starting my day!
When I was little a book for a birthday gift. It was a book with 365 little stories, so you could read a little snippet of the story each day and by the end of the year, the story was complete. Living Lightly reminded me of that. Only, instead of adventure stories, it's a little pick me up, on how to, well, live lightly. 😁Some stories I like a lot, some not so much.
If you are anything like me, and you take everything to the hearth, it's a nice daily reminder to chill, don't stress about everything & actually enjoy life. 😁
I read in all throughout, but I think you get the most of it if you read it little by little.
It's a lovely book to have, to read when you have a bad day, or just because. rating💜💜💜
