'Crowns', another stand-alone story in the 'Passion Patrol Series' of suspense romance novels. Steamy Emma Calin holds nothing back to bring you her juicy mix of cops crime and passion, with a large side order of French satire sauce. If you enjoy James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Catherine Coulter and Kendra Elliot, you'll love a series that combines all of their best traits in fast-paced, pulse-pounding roller-coaster adventures full of passionate steamy romance, danger and love.

I love writing and I'm a writer of love in all its forms - fiction, poetry, blogging. Think of me as a busker in a subway. I love music, I love to perform and you guys are kind enough to give me money to allow me to do it. My bank manager likes that too, but he doesn't use my subway.
I'm passionate about sharing my work with readers. I understand though, as I'm not a famous New York Times Bestseller (yet!), you might be nervous about taking a chance on me. That's why I made the offer at the top of this section. If you enjoy the ride, I hope you'll just keep rolling on and try some more.
As you'll see from my book list here on Goodreads, I write in a range of genres: romance-suspense novels, gritty short stories and more recently, a series of illustrated, interactive modern fairy tales for children (age 6-12). Wherever possible my books are available in digital, paperback and audio book formats.
I often have giveaways of paperbacks, audio books, e-books and sometimes rather valuable electronic gadgets related to reading (e.g. Kindles and other e-readers). Keep an eye out on my blog and you might get more free stuff!
I still had spots when I started writing and have won numerous local, national and international prizes for poetry and short stories in the many years that have passed.
I now live a double life, sharing my time between a tiny rural town in southwest France and within commuting distance of London in the UK.
You have never read a book quite like this one (I hadn't). It has everything: a wild love story, steamy sex, hot thrills, highly likeable characters and nasty villains, cliffhangers at the end of every chapter, all set in a totally unexpected, near future. Or perhaps, not that unexpected given current political trends: the world is in the hands of populist dictators, with great names: Martine La Plume in France, Ronald Grump in the US, Victor Pinupskin in Russia. The story revolves around a London police woman, Sophia Castellana, 38, single mother, uncommonly brave (and sexy). She is given a difficult mission, made all the harder as she can't quite tell what exactly is going on (and neither can we, the readers). She has to work hard to stay on top of the situation, and many times only barely avoids disaster. On every page, you wonder what will happen next - the hallmark of a good thriller.
But what appealed to me most was the depiction of this dystopian future in which reality TV becomes reality in the hands of shameless, narcissistic populists. What Martine La Plume has in reserve for France is guaranteed to come as a surprise. There are some memorable comments, like this one: "Kings build palaces and cathedrals, republics build shopping malls and industrial estates". Not to mention the dark, twisted plotting of the "Napoleon Brotherhood". The story is brilliantly carried along at a fast clip by Emma Calin's vivid pen, that recalls the breathless flourish and penmanship of another great writer, Angela Carter, particularly in Nights at the Circus, probably Carter's masterpiece. So enjoy! I certainly did.
This is a truly unique book (at least I think it is, but as I haven't read the previous books in the series, I may be wrong) It is a very clever satire which has wickedly funnily named versions of famous characters, a vivid portrayal of a near-future world where populism is all and a rather involved plot around restoring a monarchy to France. It is very imaginative and very fast-paced, so much so that neither the main character, Sophia, nor us really has any idea what is going on. Whilst I think that it is a very good book, I have 'docked' it one star, purely because I found it quite difficult to get in to at the start, and thought that it was rather long and wordy in places. But it certainly is an interesting book and well worth a read. I received an ARC and voluntarily wrote this review from it.
Sergeant Sophia Castellana is just a normal Metropolitan police officer who finds herself thrust into a crazy situation. Her truly heroic action could change the future of world. A divorced mother of a teenage daughter should be at home nights eating a curry, not putting her life on the line. I will not give you the hero's name because it might spoil the story. This book has such an incredible story line. It is so far fetched it makes you believe it could really happen. I love the way our author makes fun of all the political figures. There are lots laughs and hot sexy scenes, but also a few tears and emotionally charged moments. It is the third book in a series but easily read as a stand alone. We do meet some old friends from the other books. A real madcap adventure. I loved it.
Love Bleed Blues is the fourth book in the Passion Control series. This is the first book I have read by Emma. I had a hard time getting into the book but I didn't give up. I did enjoy the characters and the twist n turns. I definitely have to go back and read the first three books. I give it 3.5 stars.
Book 4 in the series ....Emma Calin delivers again!!!! Great story, beautiful charaters, tons of action, and steamy sexy policewoman Sophia and her King Charles....she is a bit older and teaches him a thing or two, and he teaches her heart a thing or two. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
I am a member of Emma Calin's review team. I also purchased and read her finished book.
This story is full of action, suspense with twists and turns and steamy romance. The storyline is well developed with likable characters. It's a great read. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
I received a free copy of the book and voluntarily chose to leave a review . Wow started off with a bang in London the anticipation throughout is great
Great book! Captive from the first then on the edge of my seat straight up to the end with whodoneit. Must read! I voluntarily read this ARC & this is my honest review
I don't know what I was expecting when I started reading this book, but it's definitely not what I got. I felt like I had started in the middle of a series or the middle of the book. I even checked the first two books in this series to be sure that I shouldn't have read them first: they are all about different characters, so that wasn't it. I think I would have been better prepared if the blurb had let me know it was dystopian/fantasy/whatever the author intended for it to be. Part of my problem was the name of two of the lesser characters-Ronald Grump and Victor Pinupkin. Really? I don't know if the author was trying to be insulting or just couldn't come up with anything better. Either way-not happy. Also, I can do without explicit sex scenes. I know there are people who enjoy them, but I'm not one of them. I would rather the author had spent her time and effort in developing plot and characterization. All in all, a disappointment for me. I obtained a free copy from the author at my request and have left my honest review.
I read the 1st in this series, Knockout! years ago and liked it a lot. I was much into romantic suspense at the time. When I received a free copy of this I looked forward to reading it. It is rather fast paced, not at all boring. At the beginning I think I was as confused as the POV main charachter, Sophia. Conspiracies left and right, you need a scorecard to keep the various characters connected to their conspiracy du jour. But after a bit things evened out. This was very much smirk-worthy with the satire of real life 2016/2017 self-proclaimed leaders. There were also some scenes that got me a bit choked up. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily reviewing. This book surprised me! Quite a complicated (but not complex) plot, it took some getting into. Not a book to read one chapter at a time; Emma Calin's writing style is quite demanding and requires a bit of attention while the plot warms up. Written in third person but only revealing what the main character knows as she learns -- which means the reader is constantly left hanging and a little in the dark. I enjoyed it, and I will probably read the other books in the series, but I did not love it (a great premise but not executed as cleanly as it could have been, and some serious flaws in character development).
Sophia got caught in some kind incident and sadly kills one of her friends but was kidnapped as soon as they arrested someone. She has no idea what is going on but was told to protect the soon to be king charles the eleventh but from day one she fell in love with and he fell for her but there are so many secrets and a huge one that no one knows. What they have to do is keep the president and charles alive and along the way she discovers she is more than just a cop.
This is about a woman cop who comes upon a terrorist shooting, and a young man who she becomes involved with. The story is written well, and the characters are developed so the story line flows well. Personally, not my cup of tea, but that is just me. I am sure if you like romantic suspense you will like this book. I received ARC of this book, the review is entirely voluntary.
I appreciate the authors imagination but the story was not what I expected or enjoyed. The first 6 chapters were quite exciting, and then.... I tried to read through the next few chapters but could go no further. I received this book free and am offering my perspective which may not be the same as yours. I encourage reading several reviews before buying this book.
Don't know if it's kindle unlimited or not and not bothering to look it up nor anything else she's written, got this somehow as an ARC and have no idea why and wished had never read it; wordy and unnecessary sexual and violent situations, too much going on, just a mish mash of ideas that definitely did not rise to 'book'. Giving it a 2 is 'kind' and not going in to further detail is even kinder, in several ways, but truthful is 1. Don't even care when book has sexual situations or 'language' if it has decent plot, decent characters, and makes decent sense and reasoning to put those in to story. This did not.
Captivated from the beginning of the book. First time for me with this author but not the last. Sophia is a single mom who is a cop for a profession. She should be at home at night, but instead she's out laying her life on the line to protect the community . A fantastic book that was a pleasure to review.
Love Bleeds Blue is the fourth book in a series. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. The story is centered around Sophia Castellana a London Police Woman and Mother of a Teenage Daughter. She is given a difficult mission , which is made harder because she can't tell exactly what is happening. She has to work hard to stay ahead of the situation and avoid disaster at all costs. A fantastic story with great characters ton's of action and plenty of twists and turns.
Author Emma Calin has a wicked wit and colorful imagination. I had mentally set myself up to be reading a police thriller and the first chapter lived up to my expectations. And then, suddenly, I was thrust into the midst of a very vivid and believable near-future dystopia as terrorism splinters political hegemonies and governments collapse and struggle to reform. With all the fast-paced action of a James Bond novel there are plenty of explosions and car chases, shifting loyalties and sex, plus strongly etched characters and a taut plot . Alice in Wonderland is truly through the looking glass.
Another 5 star read in the Passion Patrol Series from Emma Calin! You won't want to miss this latest installment, it has everything you could want in a book: great plot, exciting twists, wonderful characters, romance and sex. If you haven't had a chance to read any of the books in this series, do yourself a favor and read them all!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book
Sophia is a police officer on a routine burglary call that turns out to be not so routine. Her life changes in a blink of an eye. She is whisked away to France while there is a political crisis facing the world she meets the guy who she came across at the burglary. This book is full of drama, romance, and politics and is a great read.
I received an ARC of this novel and wanted to post my review of it.
The story behind this book is definitely riveting, and enables you to view things from the standpoint of a law abiding official as well as to see them through royal eyes. A fair share of mystery and suspense is included, as well as some erotic scenes where the characters involved use real language while caught up in the heat of passion, not just recite purple prose while getting intimately acquainted.
A great book. It has romance, suspense, politics, show-business and all the wheeling and dealings that go on with the powers to be.All tied in with two ordinary people- Sergeant Sophia Castellana and Charles, who are thrust into a situation beyond their ken. And how they handle themselves will have a major impact on the world. And i loved the names of the characters -pure humorous!
My third read from author Emma Calin, my first that was not a short story. 302 pages, but it reads longer because of the detail woven into its depths. A very enjoyable read, I'll be reading more by her after this book!
I'll start by saying that I have not read other books by this author. I received an advanced copy with the request that I return the favour with an honest review.
Going by the promo of the book, I expected something along the lines of the main character being in the femme fatale category. What we have is a 40+yo female cockney street cop who can rugby wrestle a terrorist to the ground and karate head-kick an intended assassin, but who then becomes a slobbering, gooey, weak-kneed blob of jelly whenever she comes anywhere within view or arms reach of a 26yo man due to be prince of France. Oh, pleeeaaasee! Sorry, but I only made it halfway through to protect my stomach from prolonged nausea.
I've seen more action & realistic romance on kids cartoons than you get in this book.
