You’ve met my sons. But that’s only half of the story that began over four decades ago. I knew before any of them were conceived who they were, and the men they’d grow up to be. More importantly, from the first moment I touched her, I knew Deborah Tate would be the woman I shared my life with, who would bear my children, and stand by my side as we raised them. Along the way, there were many unforeseeable events, and people who attempted to stand in the way of me claiming what was mine. They’ve all learned their lesson.
That I don’t back down.
And that what’s mine is never to be toyed with.
Now, after decades of silence, I will finally have to share secrets from my past that I’ve never revealed to my sons. But one thing is for certain: I will always protect my family at any cost … Until My Last Breath.
Aaron's Patience is my all-time favorite book in this series from this author but this latest book and the parents story is a very close second! I really love their love story and how the history of how the Townsend family came to be an empire that focuses on love and family first not their money. There is a lot of Aaron and Patience and what is going on with them now involved in the flashback romance as well as the rest of the series main characters. I loved the flashbacks that made the future of the family so bright and fun to read I strong and most definitely recommend grabbing a copy and reading today! I would read the series in order for it to make more sense but these stories are all great and can definitely stand alone.
THANK YOU for reconnecting us with the badass Townsend men. It felt so good to be reconnected to a group of men that fiercely love their wives and put their families first in everything that they do.
On to daddy Townsend. My gosh, this man was INTENSE!!!! He knew what he wanted from the beginning, he went for it and didn’t look back. He pursued Deborah with a tenacity that could not be denied. He loved her with everything he had and created a bond that was destined to last a lifetime. I loved how he made it known that she was going to be his no matter how much she tried to deny it.
His commanding presence, love for his princess, and his family values were definitely the highlights of this book. It was so easy to see from whom the Townsend boys got their possessiveness, controlling nature, and instinct to protect.
I enjoyed the flashbacks that intertwined with the present. It flowed and never became confusing to keep up or understand.
I was thoroughly impressed with the emphasis placed on the lack of care black women receive in the hospitals and how important it is for black women to become doulas to ensure that we are being handled with care. That was refreshing.
I loved how the Townsend family was so welcoming to the #TexasTownsends and I cannot wait to hear their stories as the saga continues. This book went into detail about how important it is to always put family first and to protect them at all costs. It focused on forgiveness, understanding, respect, and all things that are needed to have a successful relationship.
This book made me laugh, gasp, shiver and cry. So much emphasis was placed on family values that it made my heart swell. This book was the perfect story to wrap all four of the books together. It gave more understanding and answered loads of questions.
Tiffany, I give this book a whopping 5 STARS, as I was thoroughly entertained and impressed with the way your mind went into overdrive with this story. I will forever be a fan of the Townsend men.

They all loved their wives until their last breath
This was a very refreshing story about the ever-increasing Townsend family. We get the backstory of how the boys' parents, Robert and Deborah met in college and how they reconnected five years later after graduation in Robert's hometown. He knew in college that Deborah was his princess and mother of his four sons. He protected her and their family with everything he had and did not mind getting his hands dirty to do so.
I just love how a three-year-old Patience was able to get eight-year-old Aaron to come out of his funk after his parents died. Emma is still Aaron's spirit guide/ guardian angel who helps him when he's in crisis.
This story reflects how families and marriage are. There are ups and downs in any marriage and family and the Townsend family is no different. They always come together because of the love they have for one another. I can see a new series coming with the Townsends of Texas. I'm sure there are a lot of tales to tell with the Texas boys.
I really enjoyed this prequel/sequel to the Townsend series. I loved that the book gave us the background on Robert and Deborah's relationship and also provided plenty updates on all the couples. The love story of Robert and Deborah was satisfying as it's own book, but the bonus of reading about the sons' and their wives in the present was the icing on the cake. My favorite is still Aaron/Patience & I loved there entire storyline. Those two are still trying to work through conflicts because Aaron is Aaron. And all the babies and pregnancies! I could barely keep up. So blown away by the realization that there are a whole other set of Townsends out there, so this series can continue to exist for a few more books. I just can't wait for the next one. This is a must-read for anyone that follows this series. If you're new to this series, start from the beginning. You won't be disappointed.
Loved loved loved this book! Daddy Robert is alpha to the core and his princess, Deborah was the love of his life. Their backstory was so romantic and revealing. I loved catching up with Carter, Aaron, Joshua and Tyler and their families. The little nugget at the end was the cherry on this ultimate banana split I devoured in 3 hours!!
I enjoyed Robert and Deborah story. Aaron is still my man, I liked the new characters that was introduced and can't wait to find out about their stories
Enjoyed the story. Was definitely worth waiting for. Sad to see this part of the family's story coming to a close. All the books were amazing! Onward to the Texas Townsends!
There were a lot of flashbacks as Robert and Deborah share their story with their kids. I liked how parts were recounted when they were relevant to current situations. I also liked that this book served as an update to the series.
Wow just wow. Lady you wrote the heck out of that book! I love me some Townsend's. Gosh i want more! Lol I sooo recommend this book and all Tiffany's books you won't be disappointed! Robert and Deborah story made this story line the world. Learning the background and more insight into their lives and sons lives really did it for me. Thank you!
I loved this story it put a lot of things into perspective for me with all the books in this series. I love the Townsend men and their relationships with the strong women they are married to. I can’t wait for or hope there is a Townsend of Texas series. I also hope there is a series on head security Rick and his son. Tiffany Patterson never disappoints. I have read all of her book. I just don’t start reading them at night during the week or I won’t get any sleep😂. She is a a weekend author😂
I didn’t want it to end. Tiffany’s done it again. She could write a million Townsend books and I’d read them all. I was a bit sceptical thinking this whole book would be about Robert but it wasn’t and we got an update on all the boys and their spouses. We got to see how the Townsend boys were like their father in so many ways. I really wasnt ready to say goodbye to Carter, aaron, tyler so this was a nice closure although I’m still not sure I’m ready but looks like there’s new townsends in town
What a perfect way to wrap up the Townsend series..well sort of. You must read this to see what I mean as it seems another series is in the works. Anyway, I loved reading Deborah and Robert's story. Makes everything come together how they are the loving parents of Carter, Aaron , Joshua, and Tyler. This is a book about true love, fate and family and if you loved those Townsend brothers you will enjoy this! Highly recommended
It was good to see how Robert and Deborah came to be a union. The Townsend brothers are definitely a chip off the old block, just like Robert. You can see some of Deb in each of the women they chose to marry. How cool to learn that Aaron and Patience met younger than we even knew. The ending was unexpected and lit. Looking forward to reading more.
A fantastic book. Robert Townsend is the OA / Original Alpha and he raised his 4 boys to be Alpha men. And that family was theirs to love and protect. Another 5- star read that leads us to another branch of the Townsends family tree, that I am looking forward to getting to know. I have no doubt that this book is an future award winner. Well done Ms. Tiffany Patterson
I enjoyed Until My Last Breath! I couldn't put my kindle down! I enjoyed the storyline and the chemistry between Deborah and Robert! Their story was so fantastic! It was too catching up with the rest of the family! Such a fantastic book!
No seriously though WTF is with the Townsend men being killers. Dude.
This book ... I mean it's a book, yeah? BUT I think it's important to read ALL the previous books. Not just the Townsends but TBH I think to really get the whole effect you need to read Eric's Inferno - and then the other Ladder 4 books, and THEN the Townsend books before this one. Normally I'm not all "you need to read the books in order" but in this case you REALLY do because it's set not only mostly after the end of Tyler's book, but pretty much all the previous characters have not only cameos but POV sections in this book. I REALLY like Aason and Patience and I totally didn't expect that.
I kinda felt like Deb and Robert's story was ... not FORCED but ... the baddies/drama part was? O_o [Also the Robert doubting her/not doubting her. I REALLY wish there had been more wooing. I'm kinda getting tired of the "you woman me man you mine." WHY CAN'T THEY GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER A LITTLE BIT FIRST AT LEAST?!] Like - with Aaron and Patience at least they dated for 2 months! [And then they had all that history too that happened when they were kids that we see in THIS book. The reading <3]
I ... actually ... oh wait. Was going to say I couldn't remember what happened to Cohen - but then I remembered :X
I did like seeing the kids with all their EVEN MORE kids. :) And the other relative at the end O_o [I NEED TO KNOW THE STORY] and yes obviously I've already started it :P
For this one... argh. Like - as a standalone? Not great. But as a "this is tying up all the loose ends" [>.> low key - isn't Williamsport in NC? I dunno why I think that? But they like never mention it?] ANYWAY.
It felt a little disjointed with ... the brother - can't remember his name :X Aaron's birth parents. Oof.
Also - there were a number of typos in this one. OMFG AND GIGGLING. Tyler's book used it 44 times ... this book I think 38 or something? Sometimes it didn't even fit!!!! Whatever.
D+? wavering between 2 and 3 stars ... D? ... blergh. I guess 3 stars. but ... Yeah. 3 only if you've read all the other books.
I admittedly wasn’t all that enthusiastic about reading a story on Robert and Deb and procrastinated on getting to it. Mostly because I’d been so obsessed with their sons and their wives, the whole “rewind to the past of the parents” was never really my thing, and I’ve already read all the other spinoff books and didn’t feel like U-turning. From the description, that’s all I thought it’d be. But I’m glad I was curious enough to read because this was more like an extended epilogue of all the men and their wives and kids with flashbacks to Robert and Deb and the parallels in how Robert set the trend to Townsend men courting and protecting their women placed throughout. I liked that the POV switched in almost equal parts between the sons and wives, and past and present Robert and Deb, almost told like in a movie or tv show when a character reminisces or is telling a story and a flashback is shown before coming back to the present. The focus moved really well between, not just Robert and Deb’s early relationship andtroubles they dealt with even after they were married and started having their sons, but also the new generation continuing towards their futures. Robert’s lesson to Aaron about not coming between a mother and her child (Periodt!), all the men basically begging their wives for more kids (LOL), seeing Aaron and Patience’s *actual* first meeting, seeing Robert go to the same lengths that all his sons have gone to for their women, everyone interacting as a family and in different units, the little easter eggs mentioning Resha, Doc, Damon, Sandra and Monique, Brutus and his father (I giggled every time Rick said he’d never have kids), and setting up the Townsends of Texas, who I’d already read, was all fun and entertaining. I should’ve known never to skip a part of a Tiffany Patterson series lol. Now off to re-read about Micah, Ace, Gabriel and their cousin :D.
Robert Townsend is a testament to the adage often used when referring to the behavior of children -"a chip off the old block". He's the block but ain't nothing "old" about him. If you haven't read about those Townsend boys, you will definitely want to after reading about their Daddy. What a man, what a man, what a man, what a might good man! This book gives the reader a peak into the love and lives of Robert and Deborah Townsend, the patriarch and matriarch of the Townsend family. It's all about deep abiding love, family ties and devotion, and passion. Robert is the original alpha male. Well written and developed, not boorish but confident, strong, loyal, and passionate. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Deborah is admirable. She's smart, ambitious, knows her value and will not settle for less. She was firm but soft when necessary. The book was suspenseful, funny, and sweet. Appreciated the opportunity to catch up with the Townsend boys and their growing families. And WOW!! The surprise left me with bated breath for the next stories around the Texas Townsends! Thank you Ms. Patterson for your excellent work!
I love discovering new authors and Tiffany Patterson is one talented author who wrote a very nice book that I thoroughly enjoyed.
I just had a few minor issues with this book.
My MAIN grip was Robert's disappearance for 5 years. I kept wondering if he did not bump into Deborah at the restaurant would they have meet?. I really did not like this long separation and from the way they met, Robert wasn't looking for Deborah at all. It felt as if she wasn't even on his mind at all and that worried me.
If Deborah was his one, why did he not look for her sooner?. This question really bugged me!!!!
I was hoping that Deborah wouldn't give in to Robert so easily. She just reconnected with him and their 5 years apart and his sudden dissappeance for their night together was over and done with. I also was let down by her as she just went along with Robert telling her to break off with Cohen and that they are now together.
It was nice reading about the their sons and seeing their relationships with their wives and children. I look forward to reading about them.
I think I love this Townsend patriarch the most out of all. I laughed out loud several times and and mourned at parts as so much of this fictional tale mirrors my own real life misery. I know Aaron was a lil over the top with Patience and the new babe...but I was also disappointed at her carelessness in getting pregnant again like she did. In my head I was like yes I get the excitement and love of bringing new life into world but since both pregnancies were fraught with major health issues, their agreement not to have more...I felt like she should have taken more precautions and not be so casual about the risks. I mean wouldn't one want to do all they could to ensure they are around to finish raising the ones they already have? And all four of their kids were all so very young still. The story goes from past to present thru out but its well done as the flow is good. The myriad of characters can be confusing so be sure to read these in order. Some typos as usual but not too many. Robert and Deborah are just wonderful. Sure wish I had a Townsend man...gee..😉
Until My Last Breath by Tiffany Patterson is a beautifully written romance that had me hooked from start to finish. Deborah Townsend is determined to make it through Harvard on her own terms, honoring her parents’ sacrifices with her hard work and resilience. Then there’s Robert Townsend—born with a silver spoon, but carrying the heavy weight of his family’s business troubles. On the surface they couldn’t be more different, but when their worlds collide, sparks fly in the best way. What I loved most is how Tiffany Patterson balances the sweetness of first love with the real struggles of distance, time, and responsibility. Deborah and Robert’s chemistry is undeniable, but so are the obstacles standing in their way. The emotional depth had me rooting for them every step of the journey, and the payoff was so worth it. This is a heartfelt, swoony, opposites-attract romance that proves love can endure even when life tries to pull you apart. Tiffany Patterson never misses, and this story is a perfect example of why her books are an auto-buy for me!
