When the EMP hit, the small world around a liberal arts college in the Vermont mountains changed drastically.
But Tav had trained his whole life for this.
Now this ex-Army Ranger has to serve again, but this time it’s a group of four beautiful women and one gentle old man who need his help to survive this lawless world.
And Tav isn’t going to let them down. He’ll fight wild dogs, hungry mountain lions, and worst of all, men, to help protect his new family.
Disclaimer: Without Law has adult scenes where the male protagonist makes love to multiple women.
First half of the book is unbearably slow and feels like I'm reading the Sims game as a book, second half is solid, but doesn't make me forgive the first half. I'm still interested in the series because there is a lot of potential, but if there's another lengthy description of skinning an animal I will shoot myself.
I am really enjoying this new series by Eric. I’m usually more into sci-fi or fantasy books but even though this story is more about the survival aspects than facing off against murderous bikers going on rampages, I’m being fully entertained with just the daily challenges of building a place that can sustain the group, and the interaction between the main characters. The MC does have sex with several of the girls (separately), so be aware there are several sex scenes in a mix of graphic and fade to black varieties. This story isn’t action packed with guns blazing but does contain several good action sequences and more than a few dead bikers.
The overall story is good. I really enjoyed the first book (with one caveat) and was enjoying the second one until I decided I was done. The reason I stopped the second book is the one caveat I have about the first one - explicitly described sex scenes. It was more graphic than it needed to be, IMO a lot more graphic than it needed to be. I realize I'm the minority here but it's enough to say they had sex (in a narrative form) but when it gets into shafts, cocks, dripping, cumming, etc. It just becomes gratuitous and unnecessary - I actually thought "sounds like someone is describing what's happening in a porno so that a visually impaired person can follow along". Anyhow, that's my two cents.

Book 2 picks right up from the first book. All of the main characters are still with us, as well as the bad guys who start to have a larger presence in this installment. This version of the end of the world is unique and entertaining, there are several elements of building an encampment which are good reading. I still find the relationships a little juvenile and awkward, but I realize the whole harem thing is popular. However, there is lot to like and book 3 is in my future.
I will freely admit, compared to other more fantastical books by Eric Vall, I wasn't overly interested in this series. But after giving it a go and continuing to the second so find in an intriguing and fun read.
We have plenty of survival and base building, mixed in with getting to know our misfit batch of survivors. And near the end we had some awesome stealth scouting and full out battles against the first of what I suspect to be many more hostile encounters.
I had to force myself to read this book until it picked up towards the middle of the story.Nothing happens to the guy that’s like Rambo.I few scratches from wrestling a mountain lion. And no damage from walking into a enemy camp. And the four air head women are suddenly all bad asses.🤨Read it if you want the good guys to totally kick but and all the bad guys die.
The story follows still follows a singular narrative since the last book. Though its now building up to a high point with the biker gang. The main charactwr is just Ok. His nice enough, but his cockiness and humor sounds misplaced and inorganic or awkward. Still, his character is more believeable than the metal mage series. The love scenes are nicely done. Believeable and passionate.
The author has done a good job in telling his story in a way that makes you get invested in the story. The characters are fun and entertaining. The pacing is good and the action scenes are well written. Overall it was fun to read I enjoyed it and give it a 4.5 out of 5rounded up. Hope to read more of this authors work in the future.
I really enjoyed reading without law 2 Eric Wall has written a great sequel the first book. Great character development and interaction. This book has plenty of action sex and humor. Good description of the events but very little about what caused the events leading up to the main story. Looking forward to the next book.
One of the best "fort-building" type stories out there. It started off a little slow, and I was worried it wouldn't live up to the first one, but about 25% of the way in it really begins to pick up, and the ending is Fantastic. Definitely a great sequel. 9.5 out of 10
So first off there is really graphic sex scenes in this series but that being said they are just a small part of the overall book and integrate well with the plot. This seems to be a fairly accurate representation of post apocalyptic life with excellent character development. For the protagonist.
So fun book like the last. More exploration, by our group, of the trashed world around them. Sex is of course on the table but it doesn't overrun the story. The MC is training his girls to survive and thrive. The over arching plot is not revealed, if there is one. Looking forward to more.
Tav's story continues as he helps build the young women's skills and with Anna find more guns and supplies. Tav is a steady ex Ranger who is working to make his neck of the world a safer place for his women. An old-timer caretaker helps with the work as their base grows and becomes a good place to live.
Reading through the available series of 1 - 9 one after another in one go. With the read, the character evolve, the area they are at expand and the reason for the “apocalypse” are hinted at bit by bit with some clues. Enjoyed the series and will continue on when new books are available.
This is easily one of the best new book series I've read in recent memory! It is incredible well thought out, the characters are entertaining, and the story is riveting! Do yourself a favor and pick up Without Law!
I am a huge fan of this series. The build up of the characters and the story is perfect. Glad to see a bit more action in this installment, and the logical progression of the basics is nice. Can't wait for the next one. My fav Vall series by far.
Looking to be a very nice after apocalypse series - no paranormal stuff, just the expected slide of civilization down the slope. Nicely written, realistic, and decent sex scenes. Looking forward to the next.
Tav and the girls, plus Rolly, continue to improve their life after the EMP went off that changed the world they live in. The bikers are still out there and are threatening their quiet existence.
Great story line, interesting characters and excellent survival/ wilderness advice. I am not that interested in the whole harem scene but there is plenty if you are into that. I highly recommend this series.
Please please please keep the books coming. I enjoyed this book maybe more than I did the first, maybe because now I know the characters better and can identify better with them. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
This can't be the end! Over my 50+ years of reading, there have been a lot of books I have hated to have end and in my memory, this has to be in the top five. Eric, I sure hope that enough readers make a similar comment to persuade you to try writing more Without Law.
I loved this story and its characters and recommend it to everyone who who likes post apocalyptic adventure, this story kept me hooked right to the end, I strongly recommend this book to everyone
I understand why Tav is explaining all the survival tips but it makes the books go slow...until that crazy climax at the end! I can’t wait to read more stuff like that!
Any book that can keep you interested from start to finish and from one book to another is worth a good rating. A good story line and a twist of sexual tension with real world helpful survival tips. Everyone will take something with them from reading this series!
I really enjoy how everything is playing out with the group so far. Plenty of action and solid growth and development between the characters. Can’t wait for the next one.
Evened out the characters and has established a good base to work from. Now it is starting to expand the world view. Again, this is a very good start to a series.
