If you liked the Magnificent Seven, you’ll love the Rock Creek Six!

Six elite Confederate soldiers band together after the War Between the States, hiring out their guns to protect lawless towns. Violence is all they know, until they make their way to Rock Creek, Texas.

For Eden Rourke, making her way from a sheltered life in Georgia to rough and tumble Rock Creek is an easy decision, if not an easy journey. A tenderhearted woman, she’s always been driven to help those in need, including the half-breed Sinclair Sullivan who’s been ambushed and beaten directly in the path of her wagon. Coincidence? She thinks not.

When Sullivan discovers that the woman who saved him is Jed Rourke’s sister, he feels obligated to escort her to Rock Creek. He tells himself that once she’s there she’ll be Jed’s problem, not his, but Eden is not only tender and unfailingly optimistic, she’s persistent. And she’s decided that Sinclair Sullivan is meant to be hers.

Eden doesn’t believe in coincidence, but she does believe in fate.

Second book in the Rock Creek Six series by Lori Handeland and Linda Devlin (aka Linda Winstead Jones), and comparing the first book (Reese) with this one, I have to say that Devlin is by far the stronger writer. Where the plot and characterization of Reese was unfocused, the writing in this second installment is spot-on and makes for an enjoyable day's read.

Sinclair Sullivan - the mysterious Comanche half-breed member of the Six - is in the midst of a beating when Miss Eden Rourke stumbles upon him and helps him out of his predicament. A beautiful woman travelling alone with two orphaned children, Sin is intrigued... until he finds out that Eden is his brother-in-arm Jedidiah's younger sister from Georgia. They set out for Rock Creek where Eden intends to meet up with her over-protective brother, the only family she has left. When she finds out that he's away for a while, she turns her sights on making Rock Creek her home and getting to know more about the taciturn Sinclair Sullivan.

I loved the chemistry between Sin and Eden - they were like to opposite ends of a magnet being draw inexorably closer. Eden was a great character: full of heart, persistence, and good will. She had so much love to give and she slowly shows Sin that just because she loves freely, doesn't mean she loves fecklessly.

The only drawback to the one is Sin's waffling: he wants, he needs her, he loves her, but she's better off without him, and she probably doesn't love him anyway, and his love for her is probably just lust, and so on and so forth. It get's a little old, especially since it's a theme that's so prevalent - especially with mixed-race heroes.

But a light and cute read nonetheless. B

I love this whole series and it was time to reread it. This is the second book and I loved it this time all over again

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

This is the second book in this wonderful series. It starts out with a bang and stays that way for the whole book. Eden Roarke is the sister of Jed, one of the Rock Creek Six gang. She's on her way to Rock Creek seeking her brother along with a couple of adorable orphans she's gathered like a mother hen when she sees a group of men beating up one man in a nearby town. As this is simply not fair, She manages to stop them and loads who turns out to be a good friend of her brothers.

Eden is drawn to Sinclair right from the start and he is to her. But she just doesn't see the problems that will happen if they act on their attraction but Sinclair does and he's determined not to give in. First ogg, Eden is his good friends SISTER!!! And one doesn't get involved with the baby sister of a friend. Good thing Jed is out of town for a bit. And if that's not bad enough, he's half Indian and half Irish and 'halfbreeds' are despised.

But Eden refuses to take no relationship for an answer and is relentless in her pursuit. He finally caves and they marry. Then Jed comes home and all of Sinclairs worries come true and I found it hilarious.

As with Reece, I adored both sin and Eden. She is such a nurturer and he needs nurturing even if he is the strong, silent type. This one gets a huge thumbs up. I think this latest was my third reading of Sullivan.

Spoilers!

Honestly, I really enjoyed the story at the beginning. It was cute. But when they were married and he still kept trying to send her away and convince her not to be with him? That was suuuuuch a turn off for me. The whole “I’ll stay with her if she gets pregnant, but if not then she needs to move back out east” was horrible. Especially since she kept sleeping with him while he was being awful towards her. I felt like he had no honour - he marries her and spends the rest of the book thinking about how it was a mistake and trying to get out of it.

I wouldn’t really recommend...

Love the Wild West!

As is true for all Lori's books, this one pulled in and didn't let go. The dynamic between the main characters, Eden and Sullivan, was practically spell-binding.

It didn't contain enough gun slinging for my taste, but it IS a romance read, so I can't complain.

If you're a fan of western romance the Rock Creek 6 is a must read!

In a nutshell: While traveling to visit her brother Jed in Rock Creek, TX, Eden Rourke and her two adopted children come upon a man being beaten by a group of rough-looking individuals. She rescues him and takes him with her, not knowing at first that he is her brother's friend Sullivan, a half-breed Comanche. They manage to get into trouble along the way, drawing them closer together. After arriving at the hotel, Eden quickly makes herself at home and ends up making some enemies, through no fault of her own.

My opinion:
Second installment of "Rock Creek Six": I am impressed with how consistent this book is with Reese (Rock Creek) in regard to character personality and development. Considering this series is written by two different authors, that could not have been easy. This is my second time reading this series so I know that this consistency continues throughout the next four books.

Story: Inevitably, Eden falls in love with Sullivan and he is so fascinated by her that he can't seem to keep his hands off her. Unfortunately for him, she refuses to sleep with anyone before marriage...unusual for an author to write a character in a historical romance this way but very fitting to the character's personality. I loved these characters. Eden was sweetly managing, someone it would be difficult to say "no" to when she's ordering people around. Sullivan was suitably dark and brooding and, for the most part, quietly observant of those around him. The story flowed quickly, a typical whirlwind romance that almost leaves the reader's head spinning. This is not a bad thing, to me; I actually like a story that gets to the point.

Of the supporting characters, I think I started to fall in love with Cash in this book. His character is further developed as is Jed's, a circumstance I believe can be attributed to the fact that these two character's stories are written by Linda Devlin, as well. We learn a little more about Cash, a smidgeon of why he is so bitter, especially in regard to NICE girls. Jed becomes a little more three-dimensional, also, with his overprotective brotherly concern for Eden.

My only real complaint would probably be the amount of descriptive sex in this book. It was a little excessive, in my opinion. I have no problem with characters sleeping together, especially when they're married, but when it seems that every encounter is described in graphic detail, it just becomes annoying.

I still give this story 5 stars for the storyline, character and plot development, and consistency.

Sullivan is the second book in the Rock Creek 6 series by Linda Winstead Jones. You do not read the series in order to understand the story, or the characters. While those reading the books as a series will get a little bit more from the read, newcomers will still be able to fully enjoy the story.

A half-breed bastard, Sinclair Sullivan knows he has no place in the world. Not with white men, not with the Comanche – and certainly not with Eden Rourke, the sister of one of his only friends. But when Eden meets him on the road to Rock Creek, she insists that he accompany her to town. With two orphaned waifs in her wagon, and enough determination to fell a much more stubborn man, Eden’s demand is irresistible and once in Rock Creek, Sullivan finds himself unable to resist stealing more than one kiss. She’s certain that their love is written in the stars, despite her brother’s objections and yet, Sullivan must first convince himself that he’s the man his lovely Eden deserves.

Sullivan is a historical romance with characters that tug at the heart strings. Eden is one of those people that always looks for the good in the world, and when reality offers hard choices she does what she can to make things better for everyone. Eden has collected to orphans, and a wounded Sullivan on her journey to Rock Creek. I loved her take charge attitude and how she just kind of gets her way, not by trickery or calculated manipulation- but just by virtue of being thoughtful and typically right. Sullivan does not think much of his standing in life, and does not want to drag Eden into the less than perfect life he sees for himself. I like that the majority of the struggles between the pair are with their own perceptions- although there is real and significant danger at play as well too. I also like that Sullivan and Eden actually talk about the issues at hand, and avoid the trap of causing their own problems rather than facing them together. The danger is two fold, and kept me on edge through a good portion of the book, although I suspected some of the causes behind the problems. I think my favorite part is seeing the evolution of the town, and the characters, as the book and series continues on.

Sullivan is another read with well written characters and a compelling story, just as expected from a veteran author like Jones.

A sweet historical romance with a little bit of romantic sizzle. Eden Rourke is a kindhearted person who likes taking care of everyone. She can't stand injustice which drives her to saving Sinclair (Sin) Sullivan. She's traveling to another small Texas town to meet up with her brother Jedidiah when she comes across a gentleman being beaten in the streets by a group of men. She felt it injustice and decided to get them to stop beating Sinclair and she loaded him in the wagon and left that town in route to meet her brother. Sinclair is a traveler by nature, a hired gun of those times and is very protective of those he cares about. You'll enjoy this sweet, sentimental story and the characters too!

Sullivan, the Irish Indian

Wonderfully written story that keeps one turning pages. Eden, sister of Jed, arrived in a town to be stopped by a fight. Well, a beating, six against one. She managed to stop the fight and the ruffians drop the unconscious Sullivan in the middle of the street. Since she has already picked up a little girl and a young boy and made them part of her family. She does the same with Sullivan. When they get to Rock Creek, her brother isn't there. Sullivan can't stop kissing her and she can't and won't stop him. They decide to marry to be able to be able to take the kisses to the next level. Great book....

It's a great story-line that has the harshness of the old west and the tenderness of a romance in the making. Sinclair Sullivan, a gunman for hire, met his match in stubbornness with Eden Rourke. Plus, there are two darling children, Teddy and Millie, orphaned at an early age, that came into the lives of those in Rock Creek. The story has grit and then I found the hugs and tender kisses of these two little kids; the lives of "Sin" and Eden would always be filled with amusement, joy and some argument. I loved this book. It is recommended for adults as there are sensual scenes. Now I have to get Rico and move on in this excellent historical western series.

Second best read

I thought Reese was a good book. Sullivan was even better. Sinclair Sullivan and Eden Rourke, this is a story that I can read over and over. I love how Linda Winstead Jones, delved into each character on Sullivan and Eden. Then Millie and Teddy. The love Eden shows the two children as her own is just touching. Getting Sullivan to admit his love, we another constant, and park step. I could not stop reading. I also love how these wayward brotherhood of men come into their own in Rock Creek. I look forward to finishing this series.

Strong man meets a strong woman

When an injured man is rescued by a woman and two children while traveling to Rock Creek, Texas, the man quickly discovers a woman who is as strong and courageous as he supposes himself to be. Though he fights succumbing to the lure of life with her, he learns that the life he thought was impossible is really what he wants when dangerous characters come after her. Love this story and the emotional conflict depicted.

Great book!!

Loved Sin and Eden’s story. I absolutely love Eden and her cheery disposition and grit. She does not put up with anything including her husband. Sullivan is just a wonderful character that you want to just love. I am so eager to see the rest of the guys fall in love! Great edition to the series and eager for more.

Sin It Is

I loved this book! Sullivan is an awesome old west romance that brings back memories of reading my Grandfather's old paperback westerns when I was a kid. From the gruff gunslingers to the saloons and the naive yet brave heroine, this book combines romance with the little towns of the old west that sprung up as folks moved west. A very enjoyable book!

Enjoyable

Even though I really wanted to shake some sense into some very obstinate men, this was enjoyable. Eden is tougher than everyone gives her credit for and Sullivan is......so very obstinate. Almost as obstinate as her brother. And Eden is very determined and patient. This is the only book I've read in the series but I will definitely look into the others.

The Rock Creek Six Saga Continues

Second in the series , Sullivan doesn’t disappoint. Eden and Sully’s love story is a slow burn that has you wanting more. I’m so lost in this series and can’t wait to start book 3. This book has it all, action, humor and steam. Read it , you won’t be disappointed.

I liked the first couple in the series a little better, but only marginally. These two are pretty damn adorable, and I part of what I enjoyed were the interactions between Eden and the rest of the "Rock Creek Six."

Fair read

Fair read. Characters were interesting. History tells how rough it was for the west. It made strong women. Could have did without the passionate descriptions. Galaxy skipped over them.

It is a pleasant enough yarn, but follows a set “romance” novel pattern, which has a predictable ending.

All western novels

.... should read like this one! Steamy heroic and a HEA ... with just enough angst! I’ll have to look for the book with Daniel aka Cash. He was a pip.
