Sharing a cabin with 4 brawny mountain men? Yeah, it was as about as hot and dirty as you’d expect.
They had one simple rule. I broke it anyway. And when I did, I lived to regret it. Because these weren’t the nicest of people. Although they sure freaked nice. That made it hard to leave. Well, their tying me to the bed made it hard to leave, too.
This naughty, over-the-top romance includes 4 hulking mountain men with checkered pasts and doubtful futures, claiming the one woman they can’t live without. If you love outrageous stories that a bit of spanking, tying up, voyeurism, and tough military dudes, this might be the book for you.

Dear Reader: I’m USA TODAY bestselling contemporary romance author Mika Lane, and am all about bringing you sexy, sassy stories with imperfect heroines and the bad-a*s dudes they bring to their knees. And I have a special love for romance with multiple guys because why should we have to settle for just one hunky man?

Writing has been a passion of mine since, well, forever (my first book was The Day I Ate the Milkyway, a true fourth-grade masterpiece). These days, steamy romance, both dark and funny, gives purpose to my days and nights as I create worlds and characters who defy the imagination. I live in magical Northern California with my own handsome alpha dude, sometimes known as Mr. Mika Lane, and two devilish cats named Chuck and Murray. These three males also defy my imagination from time to time.
A lover of shiny things, I've been known to try new recipes on unsuspecting friends, find hiding places so I can read undisturbed, and spend my last dollar on a plane ticket somewhere.
I'll always promise you a hot, sexy romp and some version of a modern-day happily ever after.
DNF - 74% I tried and then I couldn't. There is no rhyme or reason for anything in this book. It's just a series of things that happen to the characters. I had a feeling that they were a bunch of highschoolers pretending at being adults. The female throws fits and demands things that she has no right to, yet she's entitled to her secrets but drops her pants when sex is presented to her. It's like the author thinks healthy relationships, of the sex or non-sex type, need heavy doses of fabricated drama and tears. It's poorly written porn of the delivery man variety. Go in with low expectations and suspend your disbelief and maybe it will help scratch an itch but nothing else (personally I found the erodica so simply written that it lacked steam).
I didn't really connect with this story at all. Jo is an idiot. Sorry, not sorry. You've never camped before in your life but you're going to run off on your own and camp so far in the woods that you have no cell service? Then you take off to an undisclosed location with two guys you've never met? Way to make smart life choices girl. The guys are also pretty dumb. If your lives are truly in that much danger, why would you bring a stranger to your home? Ugh. This whole book was rushed, underdeveloped, and full of really, really dumb characters. I don't recommend it at all.
Very good , steamy and tense Good characters and chemistry all over the place Just missing a little more storyline for the bad guys and maybe from the best friend too. Other than that ,loved it
*Spoilers* Joelle plans on having a nice, quiet break camping. She meets two hot guys but manages to badly sprain her ankle & they offer to help her by letting her stay with them. At least until shes able to walk on it & get home. What she later finds out is the cabin shes staying at is home for not 2 but 4 hot men. These 4 men each have their own secrets & not all of them are particularly welcoming. This is book is much more a story of a girl meets 4 men in the woods. Yes theres plenty of hot sexual action in this book & yes i enjoyed that but the actually story is pretty good too. Overall its a good book especially if your a lover of Reverse Harem books which i am
Jo and her best friend planned a girl's camping trip but when her friend was injured Jo went by herself. At first, it was paradise but after a nightlong rainstorm is was a muddy mess. Unexpected visitors and an accident led to Jo becoming the partly unwanted guest in a secret cabin deep in the woods. Home to four sexy men. The men have secrets, Jo has secrets of their own but soon enough it's no secret that there is sexual tension between Jo and the men. They don't want her there but they definitely want her.
This is a fast-burn Reverse Harem. Mika's writing style is easy and entertaining. The characters were a mixed bag. At times likable, at times over the top bratty or nasty. Overreacting was a common theme in the cabin. The story is sexy even if it lacks depth and is less than plausible. I won't go into the points I found ridiculous except to comment on the bathing and bathroom situation. Ick and ick. If you want a mindless escape this is a perfect read.
Ive read better smut & better RH and better of both combined, but overall a good read. Uncomplicated, easy, delivers what youd expect from a RH smut their were a few things that couldve been done better but there was nothing that was bad about it.
I intend to read the rest of the series (featuring different characters same premise) and more of the authors other stuff (theres another RH series thats urban set that i have ny eye on) but so far both havent blown me out of the water of left a favourite author or series or anything impression.
I imagine this is the sort that would become a reliable easy fallback. Like rewatching nostalgic movies, more of a dependable comfort than anything amazing or whatever.
If you like rh and smut and dont have high expectations as you might for full story types with character development and plot and maybe like me you enjoy the cabin in the woods outside society vibe then this'll be your cuppa tea.
This was really well written. The storyline was really good! The main characters connection felt so real and believable. The female main character is such a little firecracker!!! So awesome
Another "reverse harem" where I didn't feel the connection between all involved parties, and there is mostly only one-on-one scenes. The 4 guys felt like more of a relationship to me than any of the M/F couplings. The writing was good, I just didn't connect to the story due to the above mentioned things.
I expected more cheese and got more spice instead and I’m perfectly okay with that. A very quick read, short chapters. A little predictable but that’s the cheese I was looking for. And I didn’t want it to end. It had everything I wanted, a little danger, a lot of muscle, spice, and just enough plot to get things rolling.
This book was not it, the premise is alright, execution wise just plain bad, the characters are so cringy and the things they say to each other just sounds awkward and not well thought off, it needs to be heavily edited!! Nope.

And she finds herself four mercenary men roughing it on a mountain in a cabin... It is only gonna get hotter as she likes all four.... A lot. I found this story exciting and a bit erotic although I think it might have been interested to see them use their cage in that secret hide out. For the most part the story is told from her view point which I actually like to get more male viewpoint. Don't worry though this story does have some of the guy's viewpoints too. I do like this series so far... A 5 star minimum
I look at this book I was a little confused by the write up and so I read the sample of the first two chapters and that is what caught my attention. First let me say that this is a story that is whole and complete. There are so many books out there that are just written around the sex and nothing else really solid. This book is solid it has is a fascinating plot that grabbed my curiosity in those first two chapters. Does it involve sex...yes it does. However I have read some books that have been really crude about the sexual side of the story telling. This book does involved multiply people with the one girl Jolene who goes by Jo instead. That being said let me go on to the more important things.
What drew me to the story was that Jo and her friend were supposed to have gone on this camping trip together. They worked at a topless bar wearing maid outfits of sorts serving the customers their food and drinks. They both had their reason for this camping trip but when her friend smashed her finger in the registers so bad that there was no way she could go on the camping trip. She decided to go to L. A. for a few days instead. Jo went ahead and went to the place that they had carefully tracked down. Now that is what caught my attention. Here is a girl that has never camped before and was doing it by herself talk about a tough girl. I had gone camping many times when I was younger but never alone. It was a long hike from the car to the location especially hauling a forty pound back pack. I’ve done the they hiking part too and that is not easy at all. But after getting there it was the perfect location. There was a place that was a flat clearing just right for the tent, and close by was a pool created by the stream that she went skinny dipping and enjoyed her time in the woods. It was all good until the storm came up in the middle of the night. It reduced everything around the campsite into a gigantic mud bath. Everything had been splattered with mud. The towels she had hanging from a branch, the camp stove, and even her tent. It was going to be a mess to clean up. The she hear the voices which turned to be that of Jax and Pierce. She offered them coffee to drink then she slipped in the mud and sprang her ankle seriously bad. The guys had no choice by to take her back to their cabin. She could not take care of herself nor could she even drive herself home if she were to make it to her car. She had secrets that she had and that was the reason why she was camping in the woods all by herself.
Jax and Pierce knew that there were going to the cabin would be a problem with bring Jo to the cabin but they would know that there was no other choice. These guys had their reason too for living off the gird. Reason that could be dangerous if anyone found out they were there. Reid met the at the door obviously furious. As Pierce came in helping her limp to his room. Jo had a few choice words with Ried and his attitude he had with her. Jo definitely didn’t want to be anywhere that she wasn’t wanted but she had no choice she could not fend for herself. Then she was forced into the closet, through a secret door in the closet, into another dark room with a flash light that was turned off and told to stay there and not turn on any light and to be absolutely quiet. She turned on her cell phone light to get her bearings, thinking it would be all right. Evidently not when the huge Blaze came bursting in the room dragging her out and into the living room chewing her out the whole way. Blaze seemed to be the leader and a hard ass and hot head of the group. The other guys just stood there and watched as Blaze chewed her out. Then she did what they never expected anyone to do and live through it. She poked the bear not once but twice. The question is what were these guys hiding from? All she wants to do is get back to her life but she can’t because she can’t walk out just yet. She is wonder what she got herself in to. She had enough problems of her own not wanting to add to them. But she was getting to know each of the guys and she was beginning to like them. The question is will she get away or will she stay once she knows who these guys really are? Is she as safe as thinks she is when she is with them.
This is one book that once you pick it up you will not want to put it down.
This is the first book in the Savage Mountaine Men Series, a Reverse Harem Romance. I love all about this book: the cover, the characters, the multiple POV, the sizzling chemistry, and the story. The storyline is fast-paced, intriguing, sexy/hot, and suspenseful. Laurie West did a great job with the narration. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, The Runaway. I love Mika Lane's writing.
Title: The Captive Author: Mika Lane Format: Audio Narrator: Laurie West Genre: Romantic Suspense, Mercenary Reverse Harem Standalone: Yes Part of a Series: Book 1 of the Savage Mountain Men series POV: Joelle, Pierce, Reid, Blaze Steam Level: Hot 5/5
The Captive is the first book in the Savage Mountain Men series. Jo goes camping in a remote location on Savage Mountain and ends up twisting her ankle when she meets Pierce and Jax who then take her to the cabin they share with Reid and Blaze. Things get crazier and sexier from there. All of them have secrets and I loved seeing them revealed. I've recently discovered Mika Lane and The Captive is just as good as the previous books I've read by Mika Lane. I cannot wait to dive into book two.
Favorite Quote: If I didn't kill her, I'd be marrying this bitch.
I'm listened to this in the Savage Mountain Men Collection box set that I got for free from Audiobooks Unleashed. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I think this was the first Mika Lane book I've ever read and I will be reading lots more! First of all, reverse harem...who the hell doesn't want that? Second, one woman, four men, a secluded mountain, and lots of great sex. Jo was bratty, sweet and darling all at once. Blaze was a tough dominant male who lived a hard life and wasn't the friendliest at first, Jax was fun-loving and cocky, Reid was sensitive but had an underlying strength, while Pierce had an interesting fetish tucked under his bed. I found it amusing that it wasn't Pierce that invaded that particular area (8-) Anyway, the plot was well developed, the characters were interesting, and the setting was beautiful. Now I wonder where I can find me some mountain men?
Fantastic book, five people each with a different reason to withdrawn from society to a mountain retreat, two mercenaries for hire retired from the life, one hiding from a life his father caused, one hiding from himself and the life he lost, a one strong independent feisty young woman on the run from a drug dealer , all come together in this storyline. Interesting characters with so much to loose but also to gain, filled with intense sexual attraction and finally romance, add in a failed kidnapping and this book will keep your interest right from the start.
Jo is a fierce, snarky bundle of cuteness. She goes camping by herself. She manages to sprain her ankle , but that's ok because she's rescued by 2 gorgeous men. She ends up at their cabin in the woods. There are not 2 but 4 sexy men. This is such a hot ,fun story. I recomend it to those that are looking to read a panty dropping book with a little mystery.
I was looking for something uncomplicated with a happy ending for the characters and I know that this author always delivers just that. Plus, just give me all the mountain men, you know? What's not to like about being taken care of by 4 men in their secluded cabin (aka bachelor pad central without indoor plumbing and other modern comforts). I loved it and feel like I could live a life just like that!
Joelle (Jo) trying to hide from the drug dealers who are after her, spends a couple of days camping on Savage Mountain. She meets Jax and Pierce. As she offers Jax a cup of coffee she slips, falls and sprains her ankle. The guys take her to their cabin where she meets Blaze and Reid. The four guys want her to stay, with the offer of protection and sensual love.
Jo goes on a camping trip on her own and after getting injured ends up in a cabin with 4 guys. While the title is Captive, She isn’t really held hostage. This is a hot novel, but it isn’t really dark. I enjoyed the story. No is a strong lead, if a bit naive. I enjoyed the story and the characters. This is a quick, steamy hot read.
This book was amazing and I've since downloaded the contemporary reverse harem box set to hold me over a little longer until the next in line after the captive. I just wanted to say thankyou for writing cause you are really talented in what I find intriguing book content.pleade keep up the great work.
I wasn’t expecting fine literature with a reverse harem storyline, but this fantasy captured my attention and stirred my imagination with characters who each had a backstory that brought them together. And, of course, there was a lot of the sexy spicy stuff too! Fun escape from reality.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book, but holy tomato!! (Fans myself) That was pretty damn hot. All the guys were amazing! Protective. Hot. Genuine. And who hasn’t thought of running away to avoid everyone and everything that causes us problems? I wanna go to Savage Mountain.
And Mika has done it again, if you want more than sex, if you want a story, world building and character development this book is for you. I’m not saying the sex isn’t hot cause I think I’m still coming down from it! I fell in love with the characters and would honestly love to see them again!
I enjoyed everything about this book. I started it and couldn't put it down. The characters are so interesting and their personalities just make the story. It is a different story line which brings in a lot of new twists. I highly recommend this book and am so looking forward to book 2 Runaway.
A great book that I really enjoyed reading!! Amazing characters with some awesome chemistry between them and some hot steamy sexy parts!! A great story that is entertaining and fun to read!!
