The book gives teachings from a Daoist perspective on meditation, Qi Gong, and Chinese Medicine. It is filled with great information, in a way that would be difficult to understand if you don't have any Chinese medicine training. The book is written as a student asking a teacher questions, which is similar to how some classical Chinese texts are written. There is a lot of information that is mentioned without explanation, including referencing classical texts and mentioning acupuncture points. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone looking for an introduction. It has a lot of great meditation technique advice and diagrams at the end. This book would be worth it if you are well studied and looking for something more traditional.

This book is very timely in regards to the pandemic. I was inspired by the stories of how people were able to change their state of health through qi gong and meditation. One of the very simple breathing exercises in the book has been very useful for me. When my mind is getting carried away by stressful thoughts, by doing the exercise, I can turn my mental state around my mental state within just a few minutes, feeling much more relaxed. This has been a really useful tool for me. It is a really important time for people to be able to broaden their concept of health.

Reading this book transported me to an ancient world where a spiritual path was not the sort of superficiality or individualized belief systems that its contemporary counterpart is often guilty of. It is a world that self-cultivation involves both physical AND mental training. I particularly like the practice appendix at the back of the book. It has clear instructions throughout with simple illustration and essential tips as a quick take-away.
