During their couple's getaway, Masahiro and Kousuke grow closer and closer. On the flip side, Hasekura and Kensuke's usually happy-go-lucky relationship seems to be reaching a new low. So when Hasekura unexpectedly gets some alone time with Masahiro, he decides to use it to his advantage...! Meanwhile, a familiar friend becomes a source of much-needed support for Kensuke.
I feel so stupid for not reading vol 6 this instant lol. I mean, I was so afraid to read this volume because of the previous cliffhanger? Lol.
This volume is so eventful, I literally had a headache (and nosebleed mostly because of the fluffiness) with all that's happening. I'm totally in love with this volume! And I really like the version of Asaya here, I swear. Anyway, the bonus story is a freaking killer, I'm gonna have a heart attack. I really ship Asaya and Ken!! And the art style!!
I had paused at this volume for quite a few months and needed to do a re-read to continue with volumes 7-11. With this re-read, I did catch a bit more and I am starting to distinguish the characters; however, it still was not my no.1 favorite volume. This series isn't bad but there is just too much going on within the volumes and nothing is really getting accomplished. The plot still is so confusing and most of the characters look alike - especially Masahiro and Asaya. The only way to truly distinguish them is Masahiro has earrings and Asaya mostly wears sweater vests.
I don't see the packed panels going away in this series which is the biggest issue Hitorijimie My Hero faces. I shouldn't be getting a headache when reading manga. The panels are chaos and have been since the beginning. I feel as if each volume gets worse with how much the author packs into one tiny panel.
This was definitely a great volume that gave us more of a look into the side characters' stories! Especially the relationship between Kensuke and Asaya. I wasn’t a fan of using Masahiro for revenge but it played out well enough! And that beach scene! Ugh, I squealed so much.
What I am most frustrated with, and I am noticing it’s getting worse with each volume, is not knowing where the speech and dialogue are coming from. Some you can guess with but there are 3-5 dialogue bubbles in each small panel and it’s becoming too much. Also, the bubbles won’t point to who is always talking. This is something I noticed getting worse with each volume and not getting better.
At times I feel like there are way too many side characters. I think a few are nice but having this many and you don’t really know their names or how they connect, is just annoying.
Still love these characters a lot, but the narrative was all over the place in this volume. There are some confusing scene changes and flashbacks which really took me out of the moment, and it's weak in plot with re-tread for one couple and inexplicable behaviors for the other. Dropping a star but the series as a whole is still crack to me.
This kinda feels like it's starting to go off the rails some. Too much going on (drama CDs, the anime, surging popularity) and too many deadlines to keep the story in a thoughtful flow?
Kousuke and Setagawa are almost an afterthought, but in a weird way. We start with Hasekura fake-kissing Setagawa for a photo to make Ken jealous, and completely ignore that Setagawa was closing his eyes, blushing, leaning into it, and thinking about how hot and irresistible Hasekura is...and go straight to Kousuke literally proposing on the beach and Setagawa agreeing to move in with him.
I mean. It's a nice scene. I do want to see that happen, eventually. But. Timing? Pacing?
Yeah, I get the Hasekura thing wasn't actually going to go anywhere, and Ken doesn't have the slightest bit of concern that the two of them might've really kissed. (Kousuke hasn't found out yet. Setagawa is actively not telling him.) But to make Setagawa react that way is...a choice. A weird choice that I don't get with everything else that's going on.
And there is a lot.
Setagawa actually says the word "desperate" when it comes to Kousuke's proposal, and I agree with him. It's...too much, honestly, for this stage in their relationship. Yeah, they kinda have engagement rings already, and have already talked about their future as a longterm thing. But Kousuke is trying really hard to tie Setagawa down, and with the way things are with them right now, it feels less like they're actually ready for it and more like he's increasingly anxious about losing him.
He did eventually explain that comment I was confused about in the previous volume; it was the whole "would you like me more if I was a woman with boobs" thing that for some reason guys in BL worry about a lot. He's sleeping with you, and you're a man. I don't think you need to worry about if he's actually attracted to you.
To his credit, Setagawa immediately takes the initiative to show Kousuke exactly how attracted to him he is, and their interactions are good enough from there that it washes out some of the less great bits from before.
Oddly, when Kousuke and Setagawa do talk about Natsuo, Setagawa drops it immediately and says he doesn't care anymore. Regardless of how Natsuo feels, he's not really worried about it from Kousuke's side and doesn't need to discuss it. Which is mature and healthy, I guess, but as a reader, ???
And I have NO idea what's happening in Natsuo's scenes in this volume, and who that guy is and what relationship they have.
Because we spent the rest of the volume on Ken's and Hasekura's relationship, with them...basically making no progress whatsoever and kind of winding up exactly where they'd started?
Plus another weird little sideplot with Yunge "fake" dating Ken for a day so he could experience life outside of Hasekura, with some hints that he has someone else he's possibly in love with, whom he can only see at night?
Honestly I have no idea what was happening for a good percentage of this volume. We did finally get the backstory of adopting the dog - cuter in the anime I thought - and some good scenes here and there, but it was mostly strangely structured without all the in-depth, character-heavy storytelling I'd really loved in some of those earlier volumes.
This book focused more on the relationship between Kensuke and Hasekura. Most people wont mind this but since I'm not a huge fan of Hasekura to begin with I was a little disappointed.
Having said that, the manga starts out exceptionally. Kousuke is an amazing boyfriend and his patience with Masahiro is incredible. It's rare to see him insecure about anything so I was a little surprised when he admitted feeling worried about whether Masahiro found his body attractive or not. Masahiro's response to him is one of the reasons why I love him so much. They are an amazing couple. I just hope that Kousuke can help get Masahiro out of his own head more often. This boy acts like he's scared to be happy! Them moving in together is an excellent idea. They really do compliment each well.
As for the situation with Kensuke and Hasekura, I do feel bad for Hasekura. Kensuke is very immature and to be honest he probably shouldn't be in such a serious relationship with anyone yet. Hasekura being sexually frustrated probably explains 90% of his attitude problems. I'm still a little confused as to why he's so stuck on Kensuke. They are so different that it's actually comical. Maybe that was the intent? Regardless, I think that he is probably more compatible with Yuge. I not sure how Yuge truly feels about Kensuke romantically but they would make a cute couple. That little scene where Kensuke was licking melted ice cream off of Hasekura's hand and elbow was hilarious. His face and knowing how he was feeling and what he was thinking had me dying! This would have gotten 5 stars if it had focused more on the main couple (but again, that's my bias).
The young master and Ooshiba comprised a sizable chunk of this volume in a way that had to leave their fans satisfied. I enjoyed the moments seeing how Hasekura and Ooshiba reached a sort of understanding with their lack of sexual activity here. Seeing how Ooshiba finally realized there were ways that he wasn’t fulfilling Hasekura needs felt like he grew in some ways. While he wasn’t wrong for what he did, he still needed to at least put a little bit into the relationship to keep Hasekura satisfied as Hasekura was always going te distance for him.
I am still wishing Ooshiba and Masahiro somehow help their friends out with their romances. Surely Yunge and the others deliver to have some love from someone else in the plot too right? I still want Masahiro to get with his friend that has a pretty obvious crush on him.
Anyway the Masahiro and Kousuke plot is still intriguing…will they actually marry and move in?
Oh well. I’ve read this volume twice and its still good.
A nice 3.5/5 stars. Cute, fun, sadly not as dramatic as I was hoping coming out of how Volume 5 ended, but that's okay. Just looking at how other cliff hangers have turned out I wasn't that surprised.
While I really like that Hasekura (Asaya) is getting a lot of development because I enjoy his growing frenemie relationship with Masahiro, I am a little confused on why a focus on their story isn't done through it's own series, since Hitorijime My Hero is a spinoff of Hasekura and Kensuke's relationship manga. That said I still enjoed it, just wish that Masahiro and Kouske were still apart of the focus for the later half of this installment.
I'm very...interested to see where Kouske's proposal leads to considering just how absurd it is. But this series thrives off it's absurdity so i'm looking forward too it.

This volume had me fan-girling. Of course loads of art detail. I loved the cicada scene. Watching plenty of anime I could hear them in the background while I read which gave it a very nice vibe.
Still though the flow of the story is never well. It starts hurting my head trying to figure out who is talking. Also the background character aren't strong and get in the way most of the time.
I really enjoyed the beginning of this story. It was the two characters on holiday just being together. It was sweet and cute. There was no reminder that this was a teacher/student duo. That just sort of crushes the story.
The rest of the story is pretty much focused on another couple and felt out of left field.
So that Teacher/Student relationship, well, the teacher proposed to the student. Yes. A teacher proposes to a Junior in High school. He wants them to move in together. It is such a weird thing. Why? Do a time jump and let the kid grow up some first. It's so weird. I can't quit this story at this point and I should.
How can Kensuke be so insightful with Yuge but not about his own self and Hasekura? I can see where Hasekura would be jealous of how touchy feely Kensuke is with everyone when that's what he wants most but Kensuke isn't giving him.
Plus the big M has been asked and received! It's just so odd thinking about how the laws in Japan differ from America when it comes to these issues.
Is the set out of this a bit disorientating and hard to follow? Yes.
Do I care? No. Because this is some of the cutest shit I've ever seen. Really enjoying the direction the story is going and can't wait to pick up the next volume.
I really recommend reading Hitorijime My Boyfriend before this volume. Still really good on its own and I loved it (and I haven’t read HMB yet)! But definitely would’ve added some extra backstory. Too bad the English edition of HMB isn’t out till October!
I’m a little annoyed by the fake out in the beginning. Not that I wanted that to happen but imagine the drama from that oof. But I am glad we got to see more of the other relationship without it being a separate volume that is specifically hitorijime my boyfriend part whatever.
3.5. Its certainly enjoyable but just a bit confusing. I'm having trouble telling some of the characters apart and so much is happening so fast its hard to keep up. I'm hoping the next ones add more to the plot and I think I'll be better at telling the difference between the characters.
Oh finally, a touch of communication goes such a long way!! I liked their little trip and the beach scene? Shut your mouth hahaha! Also really liked the bonus chapter “Hormone Hug Day” it was nice and soft.

Masahiro y Kousuke en una escapada a las aguas termales. Masahiro sobre sus inseguridades. Hasekura usando a Masahiro para darle celos a Kensuke, eso fue inesperado.
