Priscilla Shirer is a wife and a mom first. But put a Bible in her hand and a message in her heart and you’ll see why thousands flock to her conferences and dive into her Bible study series’ and books each year.
A graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, Priscilla holds a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies and considers it a privilege to serve believers from every denomination and culture by helping them to know the truths of Scripture intellectually and encouraging them to experience these truths practically by the power of the Holy Spirit.
In addition to Priscilla’s participation in many church and para-church conferences across the globe each year, Going Beyond Ministries hosts AWAKEN – an outreach event in their hometown designed to encourage and mobilize women locally. This free gathering brings together thousands of women from different denominations and backgrounds several times a year in an effort to stir revival.
Going Beyond Ministries also equips believers through books and Bible study resources. Priscilla has authored over a dozen video driven studies for women and teens on a myriad of Biblical characters and topics including Jonah, Gideon, the Exodus, discerning God’s voice, The Armor of God.
Her books include Discerning the Voice of God, God is Able, and two New York Times Bestsellers – The Resolution for Women and Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan for Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer, which was named the 2016 Christian Book of the Year. Her latest offering is a 365-day devotional called Awaken: 90 Days with the God Who Speaks. In 2016, Priscilla ventured into the world of children’s publishing with The Prince Warriors, a fiction 4-book series and accompanying 365-day devotional (Unseen) designed to equip tween boys and girls for victory in spiritual warfare.
Priscilla has been married to Jerry for 20 years. Between studying and writing, she spends most of her time cleaning up after (and trying to satisfy the appetites of) their three growing boys – Jackson, Jerry Jr. and Jude.
This is random, but every time I say the author's name, I always somehow end up pronouncing it like a certain beautiful place in Middle-Earth...
My mom gave this to me a few months ago. It opened my eyes to some things I needed to work through and encouraged me to become and embrace the person God created (and wants) me to be. Would recommend to any to any woman—young adult or not—who needs a reminder of God's amazing love for us and the perfect plans He has in store for us.
This book is a beautiful summary of the book of Ephesians. I at first was worried that it would be geared more for teenage girls and not really apply to me (not a teenager),but I soon found out that I was wrong. My pink highlights and sticky notes all throughout the book are a witness that it is for anyone who has a hard time seeing how they fit into the beautiful image of God. It challenged and convicted me. I laughed and cried as I went through each chapter. It will inspire you to view yourself as God sees you...loved, accepted, chosen, redeemed and forgiven.
Expectations: This book is small, has a pretty cover, and cost me $3 from the clearance shelf at Hobby Lobby. I read it fully expecting it to be decent but not noteworthy and to hand it to a younger friend of mine who might get more out of it after I was done. From my experience Christian nonfiction books geared specifically for an age group younger than 20 tend to be shallow and fail to connect and be relatable for the reader.
Reality: While this book acted more as a reminder for me than learning a lot of new things, I needed that reminder. Priscilla talks about identity: what it is and what it is not, and how we are created uniquely by God to fulfill a specific purpose. The book also touches on other important topics like the importance of boundaries, social media, and knowing God's will. (She also talks very briefly, maybe less than a paragraph, about same-sex attraction, and handles it very well.) She talks as an older sister to her younger sister, writing with both love and experience, and that shows through.
tl;dr: This bite-sized book talks about topics and struggles that are universal for young women from a solid and loving ChristIan perspective, focusing on identity. I would recommend this to teen girls, but more mature tweens and also young women in their early twenties might enjoy it too.
Main takeaways for me personally: -only God has the right to define who I am -even if I choose a new name, a new identity doesn't come with it -your struggle does not equal your identity -people will reject you. That's okay. Their rejection does not reflect who you are. -stop searching for God's will and start living it (that entire chapter was exactly what I needed!)
(Tiny side note that you probably don't care about: she mentions several times that you can't lose your salvation; I realize that people have different perspectives regarding that, but she is also quick to say that that does not mean you can keep on sinning as you please.)
I bought this book for my daughter, for us to read together. I had no idea that it would touch me so deeply as well. It is written for teen and young adult girls, but my oh my, no matter the age, the message is the same. Powerful. Impacting. Empowering. In a world telling girls who they should be, Priscilla Shirer uses her powerful voice and relatable humor to remind us who God says we are and who He made us to be. This is a must read for all young girls, and even some of us older ones.
Read this one along with my teenaged daughter. Such solid insight and advice for girls at this age. Highly recommend for any teenaged or young adult women— especially if it can be read in a small group or a mentoring relationship.
Ah, I love Priscilla Shirer so much! She is so insightful, so genuine, and she uses her words to speak so much Truth into this generation. Her work is truly refreshing to the heart. Radiant usurps common generational lies about identity, and firmly points young women towards their identity, purpose, and mission in Christ. This book has not only encouraged me in my walk as a daughter but emboldened me in following my faith before any earthly offer of security. I could go on and on!
Most people have trouble understanding who we really are, especially who we are in Christ, who we are in God’s eyes. Instead we tend to listen to everyone else and blindly accept the labels that the world pins on us. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone would study the book of Ephesians and learn about their true identity? Recently a new faith-based movie, Overcomer, directed by Alex Kendrick and produced by Stephen Kendrick released in theaters. Several books ‘inspired by the movie’ and geared toward different groups have been published. I’ve reviewed three of them, and now it’s time to write about the 4th one in the group. Radiant: His Light, your life (B&H publishing, 2019) is written by Priscilla Shirer, who stars in the movie. This book is written especially for teen girls and young women. Ms Shirer writes from personal experience about finding her identity. She discusses issues that she has dealt with as she learned to shake off labels imposed on her by someone else, in favor of looking in the mirror and seeing the beautiful woman that she is, a child of God, created in His image. Of course there is a journey involved, and she is careful document that journey, leading from a place of darkness to a realization that God had a plan for her, and then leaning what she needed to do to fulfill that plan. There are 4 parts to this book each with several chapters. Each part begins with scriptures to read, affirmations to recite, along with an example of God’s eternal truth which women should believe. At the end of each section there are things to think about and ‘takeaways’. Many of the chapters include lists—list of the names that women should be called by, names that define who they are in God’s sight. In today’s society, almost every women could benefit from the message that Priscilla offers. I think this book would work well as a women’s study guide, although reading it ‘solo’ would certainly be beneficial. I received a copy of this book from the publisher as part of their blogger’s program. 4/5
I am long past being a teen girl or young woman, but I got so much out of the book. I enjoy Priscilla Shirer's writing, and am beginning the study Defined (that accompanies the movie, Overcomer by the Kendricks). I wanted to read this as a quick summary to know what was ahead. I do disagree with Mrs Shirer about some details of theology - not just in this book, but in other studies of hers I have done. I find if I can look past those, her books offer so many valuable nuggets. I grow every time I read her material. Plus I enjoy her speaking and writing style. I'm very tempted to buy this for my 2 daughters. Radiant expresses a lot of messages I don't believe women, even men, hear often enough. I highly recommend this.
I highly recommend this book for everyone! It may be written for girls but women and I believe boys and men can truly receive the “gift” that is this book and the words of “love” written by Priscilla Shirer.
Each page is like a huge hug from God, a Mother, Grandmother, Father, Grandfather and loving Friend. It radiates love and gives you a solid foundation for believing in yourself through God loving voice.
I picked this book up, thinking it could be a good study to do with the teens in our youth ministry. What I found was that, even at 38, I needed these reminders as much as they did!

The book is less than 150 pages, but each page will touch the heart of the reader and make a positive impact. Priscilla Shirer is one of my favorite Bible teachers and this book appeals to me in spite of being well beyond the age of the intended readers. I wish there had been a similar resource available during my teen and early adult years. It is divided into 4 parts to walk you through various seasons and each ends with something To Think about and To Take Away. There are also paragraphs encouraging you to Read This, Say This, and Believe This. The outer beauty of the book (I love the purple cover with the gold lettering!) makes me smile, but the inner beauty being taught within the book makes this an excellent book for a young woman.
Radiant is published by B&H Publishing as a resource for further study with the film, Overcomer, by the Kendrick Brothers. Priscilla has a role in this film as a caring high school principal. I also highly recommend you see the movie!

In association with the newly-released film, "Overcomer" from Alex and Stephen Kendrick, Priscilla Shirer wrote "Radiant", a book about finding identity in God for teen girls and young women. Using examples from her life as a teenager, Shirer encourages young women to look for their identity in the pages of Scripture rather than social media and their peers.
She teaches young women how to be radiant with the love and joy of Christ and to use their uniqueness to serve God and reflect Him to the world. "Overcomer" and the books it has sparked are great opportunities to reinforce the message of finding our identity in God rather than through our culture.
By encouraging young women to find their true identity in Christ, Shirer focuses on God's Word as a means to make wise decisions.

I bought this book for my daughter who is graduating from high school this year. I thought it would be a good graduation and "send-off" gift to remind her to look to God's guidance to find her way. It is that in many ways, but it might just not fit for my daughter in this particular year. It starts with a story of graduation...which we are not even sure is a possibility for her this year. There are many great passages and stories that could be very inspiring for her, but I'm not sure if she will get past some of the hurt and loss she is experiencing. It might not be the right book for her right now, but I should be able to save it for the future. I love Priscilla Shirer, so I'm disappointed I can't share this with my daughter at this time.
It is so special that through the words written on a page Priscilla was able to make me experience Gods love in a way I never have before.
This book is just the fruit of its author being a total servant of God, and it carries so much powerful truth.
It takes a lot for the meaning of “I’m loved” , “I’m forgiven”, “ I have a purpose” , “I’m chosen” and “I’m accepted” to resonate in my heart and be fully understood. Within these pages I was so overwhelmed with the truth of it all as the words illuminated a message directly from God.
I just really want to say it’s a true gift to be able to make young women realise their worth and meaning in this world, and this book does that perfectly for me.
This book was really encouraging and really brought to life what it's like to be a Christian, young woman living in the 2020s. Shirer walks through lots of topics like body image, finding God's will in your life, and how to use your gifts to advance the kingdom of God while reminding you that you are beautifully and wonderfully made. I might be around the top of the age range for this book but a lot of the analogies and references still apply or I can remember what it was like from high school. Overall I was very encouraged and enlightened by this book and I highly recommend it to any young girls struggling to find their way into what it means to be a Christian in the world today.
I am far from a teenager and closer to forty than young woman, but I'm glad God led me to this book. There is still a girl in me needing to read these words to help when I feel the need to resort to her ways of isolation and pretending nothing hurts my feelings. I think any woman dealing with any sort of issue with God-esteem would benefit from reading this book regardless of their age. It has been a blessing to me that I will treasure and share. God bless you big sister Silla!
This is a teen devotional that I read to see if it was something my daughter might enjoy. It was very well written and included some great storytelling of the author’s personal experiences, but I’ve decided it’s right for a different audience. This book assumes the reader is in a specific time of her life, one in which a girl is perhaps struggling to fit in, feel worthy, feel beautiful, know her purpose, or similar. Obviously those are all valid experiences for a teen girl (or any age, truly), but that’s just not where we are at the moment.
I gave this book a 5-star rating because it was such a good book. She shares stories and moments in her life and then connects them to how you can live as a follower of Christ. She opens up about things she went through when she was younger and why we shouldn't cover up who we are because God created us in his own image. This book would appeal to any woman (or girl) of any age, but specifically teens.
I really enjoyed this book! Priscilla speaks to the heart, offering encouragement, truth, and wisdom in a way that is both powerful and relatable.
This book is a beautiful reminder of our identity in Christ and the light we are meant to shine in the world. Shirer’s words are both inspiring and practical, making this a perfect read for young ladies ages 14 and up who need a reminder of their God-given worth and purpose!
I can't love this enough. If you are, have, or even have been a teen or young adult woman, this is a beautiful dose of God's truth and love. Priscilla Shirer does an outstanding job sharing life and lessons that are relevant and relatable to today's growing ladies. It's real talk without the sting of condemnation and Biblically sound doctrine without complication.
I read this book in preparation to lead it for a group of girls and was so surprised at the truths that God spoke to my heart through it. Beautifully articulated. The tone is personable and warm. The stories are funny and relatable, and the truths from God's word are real and necessary for girls of all ages.
Priscilla hit everything on the nail. I loved when she discussed Gods will, and how we can feel as though we need EVERY answer. Newsflash, we DONT. Do what’s in your power to do TODAY. Tomorrow will take care of its self.
I needed this reminder. This was an overall beautiful piece of work. LOVED.
An incredibly necessary look at identity in a world where young women struggle to find it. Priscilla Shirer’s first book for a young adult audience does not disappoint, and is perfect to give to both Christian and unsaved girls alike.
Great book to encourage teenage girls or woman on their purpose in life. They are put here in this time and generation for a reason. They are given challenges in their life for a reason. Turn to god to guide your path. Very uplifting!
