Uncle Shawn and Bill and the Pajimminy-Crimminy Unusual Adventure
Uncle Shawn has rescued Badger Bill from the horrible McGloones, and the two best friends are living happily with their llama friends on their llama farm. Only, Bill isn’t sure he is happy. He seems to be making a lot of scones and pancakes and sandwiches for greedy llamas, and not getting much help from Uncle Shawn.
To make things worse, a nasty man with shiny shoes and squeaky teeth called Dr. P’Klawz has arrived. He hates fun and unusualness, and it just so happens that Uncle Shawn is the most fun and unusual person around. And that means Uncle Shawn is about to be in a whole lot of trouble.
This time it’s Bill who needs to come up with a plan to rescue Uncle Shawn, but all he has to help him are four bickering llamas, one pirate boy and one invisible girl. What could possibly go wrong?

Uncle Shawn and Badger Bill are back in their second full-length novel that is full of laugh-out-loud moments. The Llamas are back this time too. You can read about their first adventure in our review of Uncle Shawn and Bill and the Almost Entirely Unplanned Adventure, on our blog too.
There’s someone prowling around the town and he doesn’t like things that are unusual. Evil Dr P’Klawz has been going around town putting up posters asking people to report things of unusualness. He pops up everywhere and is watching everyone. You might think that Llamas are a bit unusual, especially ones that eat jam out of the jar, or that a talking Badger is unusual.
However, the evil doctor has his sights firmly set on Uncle Shawn.
If you have not read the first book and this one works well as a standalone, you won’t know that it was Uncle Shawn doing the rescuing, now in the second book he’s the one that needs rescuing. I love how A. L. Kennedy has gone full circle.
The chapters are quite short and like in the first book they give you information at the start as to what will happen in that section. Throughout there are also comic book style black and white illustrations that make this humorous book even funnier.
For children who like silly stories that will give them the giggles this book is perfect. It’s full of wacky moments but with the message about the powers of friendship running throughout. It’s a lovely book that I am sure will keep children engaged and interested from start to finish.

Another bonkers story of friendship, llamas and total evil.
Uncle Shawn and Bill are back, and so are the llamas. In a book that could stand alone or work as a sequel, they've settled into a happy life at their llama farm in Scotland with their new llama friends. But all is not right on the horizon as someone new to their village is stirring up trouble, and encouraging anything 'unusual' to be vilified and the perpetrators locked up...
With regular hilarious posters, comic-style illustrations and informative chapter headings evoking old Victorian novels, this is a very visual story, with plenty to read around the words themselves.
There is a great villain in Dr P'Klaws, a man with squeaky teeth who cannot stand anything that is different, people who have fun, anything he doesn't consider 'normal'. And the llamas, all with their personalities, return, young readers and listeners will enjoy their various idiosyncrasies.
Badger Bill (who is NOT fat) and Uncle Shawn form the core pair of the story, though take a back seat often to their other characters, it is their friendship that sees both through the times of worry and tension.
The theme of celebrating difference, not being afraid of who you are, is well covered by a vast number of different habits and hobbies of the people in Pandrumdroochit. They get involved in a rather exciting adventure as Bill and the llamas (as well as some other friends) work together to defeat the evil threatening them all. All their skills will be useful.
This only took a couple of hours to read as an adult, and with my 7-year-old would take a week or two of bedtimes. He loved the first and I'll be reading this sequel to him shortly, he's seen it and remembers Bill and Shawn still.
It's totally bonkers, it really is, but such good fun, and actually, the lesson of friendship at the heart of this is a rather sweet one.
Lovely short chapters, lots of action and silliness, full of things to look at - a great series for ages 6-9 in particular.

Ein etwas anderes Kinderbuch mit lustigen Zeichnungen, einer abgefahrenen Geschichte, reichlich Ungewöhnlichkeiten und einem Dachs. Eine Mischung, die manchmal zu ungewöhnlich wird und wahrscheinlich nicht für alle Kinder und Eltern geeignet ist.
Inhalt:
Der zweite Band der Abenteuer mit Onkel Stan und Dan lässt sie Dr. P'Krall begegnen, der sich auf die Fahnen geschrieben hat, alles Ungewöhnliche in der Welt auszumerzen. Da gerät er bei Onkel Stan an den Richtigen, der nur vor Ungewöhnlichkeit strotzt und Dan Dachs bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als ihn mit vielen Helfern vor dem Institut für Hochsicherheit und Heilung von Ungewöhnlichkeit zu erretten.

Das sehr kindgerechte Cover zeigt die Hauptfiguren, einige der Helfer und den Zeichenstil, der bei den Illustrationen im Buch ebenfalls verwendet wird. Das Cover ist schön ungewöhnlich, fällt ins Auge und stimmt gut auf das Buch ein.
Die Illustrationen greifen hervorragend den Inhalt auf und sind eine tolle Auflockerung der Texte.
Setting und Stil:
Die Welt, in der Stan und Dan leben ist in sich logisch, strotzt nur vor lustigen Charakteren und bietet Situationen, die zum Schmunzeln und Lachen sind, genau das Richtige für die Zielgruppe. Das Ungewöhnliche überwiegt und man fragt sich als Erwachsener, ob man seinen Kindern wirklich so viel Ungewöhnliches zumuten will, nicht dass sie auf falsche Gedanken kommen.
Die Geschichte wird aus Dachs Dans Sicht erzählt.
Charaktere:
Die altbekannten Charaktere aus dem ersten Band tauchen wieder auf und es gibt natürlich auch viele neue Helfer und Begleiter. Man kann sich leicht mit ihnen identifizieren, ist sofort auf der Seite von Stan und Dan und kann den mehr oder weniger echten Doktor leicht als Bösewicht ausmachen.
Eine gelungene Mischung aus Menschen und Tieren, die alle etwas schräg drauf zu sein scheinen.

I really enjoyed this book so much, it’s such silly and daft fun! ‘Uncle Shawn and Bill and the Pajimminy-Crimminy Unusual Adventure’ is Bill and Uncle Shawn’s second adventure together. Some very unusual things are happening at the farm, and someone has appeared in the local village, a person who can cure unusualness, but is he all he appears to be?
This story is just as silly as the first Uncle Shawn and Bill book and possibly my favourite so far. This book picks up from where the first one ended in the way that everyone is now living on Uncle Shawn’s farm, however you don’t need to have read the first book to enjoy this one as the story is a complete standalone. The story has lots of easy to read chapters which are called sections instead of chapters. Each chapter, as in the last book, has a funny description of what’s to come before you read the story itself.
The story is a fun and interesting one and similar to the first. There’s a new doctor in the village noting down everyone and everything that’s unusual. Of course talking llamas and a talking badger are very unusual, but there’s somebody even more unusual, Uncle Shawn, and the doctor wants to get rid of all of his unusualness. Although it sounds daft and silly the story does make sense. It’s a bit of a crazy silly type of humour but I really do love it. I like the twist on the first story where Bill and the llamas who are the ones who needed rescuing before are now the ones doing the rescuing! And just like in the first book the adventure to rescue their friend is filled with a very silly plan and a fun but very satisfying outcome.
The illustrations are what I love about this book. They are so funny that the story is so much more humorous with them. All the images look a little childlike but it’s somehow more appealing and I can’t help but love the way Badger Bill looks or the way the llamas look, especially Brian when he’s hiding after being afraid. The illustrations are all black and white and grey and there’s an image on each double page, many of the pictures being diagrams with funny descriptions of characters or things.
The whole story is madcap and just so silly it’s hilarious. You have to be into the very silly, nonsense kind of humour to enjoy this book, but if you are then this will appeal at any age. The ending is a heartwarming one and very satisfying and also funny. I liked the bigger message in the story too of friendship and the positive way that being unique or unusual is ultimately a good thing. It’s a great book and one I’d recommend. I’d also recommend the first book for those that haven’t read it as you learn how Uncle Shawn and Bill’s friendship began. I can’t wait for another adventure from Uncle Shawn and Bill, I hope there will be one!

Entertaining for young and old
Badger Bill lives with Uncle Shawn on a llama farm in the town of Pandrumdroochit, in Scotland. Everyone is happy until one day a man named P'Klaws appears, who hates happiness, joy, and especially uniqueness. He opens an institute where he wants to squeeze the uniqueness out of people. When Uncle Shawn eventually ends up there, Bill, together with the llamas, spiders, an invisible girl, and a boy with a Tweed face, devises a plan to save him and everyone else in the institute.
The type of humor in "Uncle Shawn and Bill and the Pajimminy-Crimminy Unusual Adventure" entertains the reader and adds to the book's charm. The characters are lovingly crafted. They are mostly cheerful and kind, with a villain who is evil but not scary. The many illustrations undersline the story and illustrate the plot. They are often funny as well. Words are explained, and complicated plotlines are depicted clearly and understandably. "Uncle Shawn and Bill" contains a great message. Namely, that it is not wrong to be different. One learns about friendship, cooperation, individuality, helpfulness, community, and courage.
Conclusion
"Uncle Shawn and Bill and the Pajimminy-Crimminy Unusual Adventure" is a fun, exciting book with great values, for children aged 9 and up and adults with a sense of humor. I highly recommend it.

Did this as a read aloud with the kids and we all laughed. But for a book with loads of silly it also had some pretty great values/ideas.

Reading "Uncle Shawn and Bill and the Pajimminy-Crimminy Unusual Adventure" taught you about the joy of helping others and the strength of friendship. Remember, like Uncle Shawn and Bill, your kindness can turn any day into an adventure.

Didn't like this book because it tries way too hard to be whimsical and funny. Sentence after sentence. This gets quite tedious and unfunny. Illustrations are OK, but they also seem to be trying too hard. Sorry if my rating seems to be severe.

Very funny, made us laugh a lot and worry for The Tweed Faced Boy and the fate of the llamas (had to read ahead to reassure son). Saying the word ‘unusual’ and SKREEEEE numerous times out loud was very cathartic too! A joy to read out loud.

We have read book 1 & 2 many times but haven't since the high schoolers were in Elementary School.
This is a super silly book with a great message about how to be oneself, avoid letting nasty people get to you, and being a good friend/person.
Cute illustrations throughout.

Das farbenfrohe Buchcover verspricht, was der Inhalt mühelos hält, nämlich viel Spaß und große Abenteuer. A. L. Kennedy hat mit diesem Buch ein wirklich besonderes Lesevergnügen für Jung und Alt geschaffen.
Die beiden sympathischen Protagonisten Onkel Stan und der wirklich niedliche Dachs Dan sind zwei außergewöhnliche Freunde, die auf einer Lama Farm leben und sehr glücklich sind. Doch plötzlich taucht der mysteriöse Arzt P. Krall auf, der jegliche Ungewöhnlichkeit und Spaß aus allen Menschen raus quetschen will. In seinem Institut für Heilung von Ungewöhnlichkeit quält er die Menschen bis sie freudlos werden und sich nicht mehr von ihren Mitmenschen unterscheiden. Können Onkel Stan und Dan das Dorf Pandrumdroochit von den Machenschaften von Dr. P. Krall erlösen?
Die Geschichte hat mich sehr stark an ein Märchen erinnert. Die Helden und die Schurken waren sehr klar definiert und sehr scharf von einander abgegrenzt. Die Helden sind zudem als schwache Personen dargestellt, die sich einer Herausforderung stellen müssen. Zum Schluss gibt es natürlich eine Strafe für den Bösen und eine Belohnung für den Helden.
Mein Fazit ist durchwegs positiv, denn das Buch überzeugt nicht nur durch seinen ansprechenden Sprachstil, sondern auch durch seine schöne Botschaft. Mein Fazit ist durchwegs positiv, denn das Buch überzeugt nicht nur durch seinen ansprechenden Sprachstil, sondern auch durch seine schöne Botschaft. Es ist gut besonders zu sein, denn kein Mensch gleicht dem anderen und auch in schweren Zeiten ist es immer richtig positiv zu bleiben und das Glück auch in schweren Zeiten zu suchen und dankbar für dieses zu sein. Ein wirklich märchenhaft gutes Buch.

wie skurril!
Was für ein Cover – wenn man da nicht neugierig wird !
Schon die Leseprobe des Buches "Onkel Stan und Dan und das ungeheuerlich ungewöhnliche Abenteuer" war ungewöhnlich interessant ; auch von der Aufmachung her . Gemma Correll kreiert so wunderbar ungewöhnliche Illustrationen - bevor man anfängt zu lesen , lacht man schon aus vollem Halse. Die kleinen Zeichnungen sind noch dazu mit witzigen Bemerkungen ergänzt. Hier nur ein Beispiel : S.49: „So tun wie ein Tisch“ – zum Wegschmeißen komisch.
Insgesamt das ganze Buch - ein bisschen verrückt.
Gut , dass da die Kapitel übersichtlich sind und ein wenig Ruhe in die Sache bringen.
Es handelt sich um eine gut abgestimmte Symbiose aus Text und Bildern. Für pfiffige Leseanfänger durchaus schon geeignet - ist auch der weite Zeilenabstand hilfreich.
Als Vorlesebuch hatte mein 5jähriger Enkel durchaus seinen Spaß.
Aber auch mich als Erwachsenen hat das Buch begeistert , vor allem weil es „Ungewöhnlichkeit“ zur Normalität erhebt , und das gibt es viel zu selten im Alltag. Und dennoch vermittelt A.L.Kennedy uns auch „ernsthafte „ Werte , wie Mut , Freundschaft und Zusammengehörigkeit.

„Onkel Stan und Dan und das ungeheuerlich ungewöhnliche Abenteuer“ hatte schon mit seinem tollen Cover meine Aufmerksamkeit.
Das Buch hat super schöne Illustrationen, die richtig lustig aufgebaut sind. Der Schreibstil ist richtig angenehm und sehr lustig. Die Schrift war mir zwar zu groß aber zum Genre echt passend. Ich finde schön, dass mehrere Charaktere vertreten werden und auch die Aufmachungen der Kapitel sind sehr gelungen und erweckten jedes mal direkt mein Interesse. Auch inhaltlich hat mir die Geschichte sehr gefallen. Die Geschichte vermittelt echt tolle Werte, vor allem über Freundschaft, weshalb nicht nur Kinder aus der Geschichte etwas mitnehmen können, sondern eigentlich jeder.

Von Onkel Stan und Dan gibt es bereits mehrere Bücher. Die Kinderbuchreihe erscheint bei orell füssli. Mit ungefähr 260 Seiten ist ein dickes Kinderbuch bei dem man ordentlich was für den preis bekommt. Die Bücher haben einen richtig schönen Humor und der Zeichenstil ist wirklich toll. Im Buch selber sind immer wieder kleine Zeichnungen. Von Anleitungen wie man sich unsichtbar macht bis zur wunderbar lustigen Beschreibung der angebeteten Dachsdame. Obwohl es natürlich ein Kinderbuch ist, ist es auch für ältere geeignet durch den schönen Humor. Das Buch zu lesen hat viel Spaß gemacht und man hatte wirklich Stellen an denen man grinsen und lachen musste. Ich kann das Buch für jung und alt weiterempfehlen!

Super lustiges und tolles Buch über Freundschaft. Die Zeichnung sind super cool und das Buch hat genau meinen Humor getroffen. Kann ich jedem empfehlen - nicht nur Kindern.
