Books like this need to be written more often. This kind of books help you understand what kind of problem archaeologist goes through. Even archaeologist should have also proper knowledge of history. This book also tell us how left cabal tried their best to fulfill their agenda. Be it Ibadat khana which was discovered during excavation or Ram Janmabhumi. These left historians are the one who fool commoner and court by telling them that there was no Ram Mandir below Babri Masjid. Thanks to KK Mohammed for staying true to his work. Finally justice has prevailed.
In this memoir, Muhammed also talks about Bateshwar Temples in Chambal, Chhattisgarh old temples, Bhojeshwar Temple in Bhopal and Goa churches. The problem he faced with government, Naxalites, mafia and so many other things are mentioned in this book..

If every Indian thinks like Sri K.K.Mohammad, then most of India’s unnecessary problems will go away automatically. I am using Sri as a term of heartfelt respect for this simple soul, because his ideology and patriotism deserves applause and respect.
Coming back to the book, this book is a mirror of ASI department.
India has a vast cultural heritage, and it is safe to say that ASI is a “Sutradhaar” to the modern World, who tells the beautiful stories of this legacy and history.
The book is written from that point of view.
Through this book we get to know how challenging the job of this department is. It is a thankless job actually with no government giving it any due credit, despite the fact that India’s heritage is the pulling factor for millions of domestic as well as international tourists. Let’s face it, no one visits India to see a mall, they all come to see millennia old heritage that is absent elsewhere mostly, and India has a rich mix of diverse heritage.
Apart from being a department that gets almost zero government support, taking lead on any work here results in political tussle from vested interest groups. Here Sri Mohammad has not spared any group or government irrespective of their religious ideology. He has written accounts as they happened. He has clearly mentioned only RSS to be one organisation that thinks from the point of National Interest and has mentioned all others to be politically charged as per their vote bank.
But this is just one of the many problems that ASI faces. They also deal with Land Mafia, Stone Mining Mafia, Naxals, over zealous youth religious groups, with many times these bordering to catastrophic results, the worst of which is brutal death.
Working inspite of these odds to present a composite Indian culture has been the life and work of Sri Mohammad.
Clearly not an armchair critic, but a field worker of culture, Mohammad has openly critiqued orthodox Muslims, Muslim groups, over zealous Hindu groups, political parties (nearly all of them), and most of all Marxist Historians.
He has observed that none of them work in national interest, which should be most important for us.
In a World driven by Social Media, where everything must be pigeonholed into an ideology, this will be a tough read. After all who do you as a reader side with, and very few want to side with India.
Now before anyone jumps to conclusions, Sri Mohammad has actively resurrected numerous Shiv Temples, most of the times facing horrifying odds from Bandits, Naxalites, Mine Mafia etc. His one account of how Lord Shiv came in his dream for a Dantewada temple resurrection, that he had given up on initially, choked me with emotion. The emotion was on how simply he had written it with no melodrama, but just as hard work of a Culture scientist.
Sri Mohammad is also instrumental in Ram Janambhoomi verdict.
Saying more will spoil the book for readers. I will highly recommend this book for every Indian. Read it with an open mind.

Those who want to know why our history is biased and distorted should read this book. Read this book to know how history is distorted behind public eyes. Leftist historian like Irfan Habib, Romila Thapar and their cabal are dangerous to Indians. Even look at Ram Mandir's issue, temple is there. So many evidences are there. But these leftist says there is nothing. These people are responsible for spoiling harmony of Hindu and muslim.
Quite a good book.

ನಾನೆಂಬ ಭಾರತೀಯ - ಕೆ.ಕೆ.ಮಹಮ್ಮದ್ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಬಿ.ನರಸಿಂಗ ರಾವ್.
ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಅಯೋಧ್ಯಾ ತೀರ್ಪಿನ ಬಳಿಕ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವರು ಗುರುತಿಸಿದ ಹೆಸರು ಇವರದ್ದು. ಅರೇ.ಒಬ್ಬ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಹಿಂದೂ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಇದೇ ಅಂತ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾ? ಅದೂ ಕೇರಳದವರು ಎಂಬುದೇ ಈ ಕುತೂಹಲದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಕಾರಣ.
ಈ ಆತ್ಮಕಥೆ ಓದಿದಾಗ ಅದು ಅವರ ಜೀವನದ ಒಂದು ಅಧ್ಯಾಯವಷ್ಟೇ. ಅಂತಹ ಹಲವಾರು ದಿಟ್ಟ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಅವರು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಈ ಆತ್ಮಕಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ವೃತ್ತಿಜೀವನದ ಮಜಲುಗಳನ್ನು, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಎದುರಾದ ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಶಾಹಿಯ ತೊಂದರೆಗಳನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕವಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಏನೆಲ್ಲ ಅಡ್ಡಗಾಲು ಹಾಕುತ್ತಾರೆ. ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಕೆಲಸ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾದರೆ ಅದೇ ಸ್ವಯಂಪ್ರಭೇ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಇದು ಜ್ವಲಂತ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ.

One who can control present can control past! This line from George Orwell's book 1984 hold true- where leftist historians like Irfan Habib and Romila Thapar are re-writing their own fictionary past. One must read the struggle of 'not so famous' Indian Archaeoloist who showed true patriotism by uniting India through the thread of cultural remains of the past.
There was a point when I was little put off by the translation. Nevertheless, this book didn't fail to leave a positive impact on me- A person's work should be 'pure'-undiluted by the biasness of self-interest.

K.K. Muhammad is a true Indian who calls for cultural unity of all Indians & clearly exposes the pseudo-secularism of Religious fanatics. He has been candid about all the hindrances that Communist Historians(the gang of Irfan Habib, Romila Thapar,Bipan Chandra, R.S. Sharma etc.) posed to the Archaeological Findings of ASI. It clearly seems the communist historians are hinduphobic. This habit of cultural animosity is bashed by K.K. Muhammad throughout his book. Every Indian should read his thoughts.
He has given some hard pills to swallow throughout his book where he candidly states: (You'll find such discussions at the end of the book. Last 20% of the book is beautiful.)
1) Hindu kabhi aggressor nahi hota. Uske attacks retaliatory hote hain. Muslims ko ye baat samajhni chahiye aur apni soch me sudhaar karna chahiye.
2) Agar ye desh muslim majority hota to kabhi secular nahi hota.
3) Communist Historians se bada threat desh ki sanskriti ko kuch nahi hai. Ye hindu aur muslim Aggressors se bhi khatarnak hain kyonki ye Hindus ko nuksaan pahuchaane me koi kasar nahi chorte aur isse hindu-muslim me ladai aur badh jaati hai.

Very few know him but whomsoever know him, know him only by his works in excavation of Ayodhya temple. KK Muhammed has truly shown us who the real Indian is. I liked the way he artlessly talks about his struggles in his service.
I come to know about him by Srijan Talks, which I think convey his emotions better than this book. His talks on this platform is a must watch especially his works on Bateshwar temple.
I have deducted one star for not up to the mark translation from Malayalam to Hindi. Muhammed did not delve deeper into his own life. His autobiography revolves only around archaeology while I wished he could tell us something more about himself.
I really admire this person. One must go through his talks on YouTube if you cannot afford to read Malayalam or Hindi.

More than an autobiography, the book shares his service experiences and his vision for a genuinely secular socio-cultural milieu that India needs to evolve into. Muhammed restricts his illustrious and exemplary achievements, that could have easily filled chapters, to tabular entries in a handful of pages and converts the entire scope of his book into those key events of his life where his approach was invariably to stand for the cultural heritage of our country and it's protection for posterity, whether it was a temple, a mosque, a church, a stupa, remains of palaces or forts, or anything and everything that threw light on our past. His take on history was more cultural and was political only as much as it helps to strengthen unity and integrity of our country. He could write this because he is an experienced field archaeologist and not an armchair historian.

An amazing memoir of an investigative archeologist that reads like a thriller and a great book for students of history and archeology (Fatehpur sikri, Delhi, Agra, Ayodhya, Goa, Bihar, Nalanda, Chattisgarh, Bateshwar, Kashi, Amarkantak...), so many things are discussed in the book that I could not put it down and read it in a couple of days. We get to read about churches, holy relics, mosques, stupas, temples, religion, politics, extremists, marxists, dacoits, ancient-medieval indian history, archeology, philosophy all in this short book. It reads as a motivational self help/improvement book with quotations, verses, poems...
It is attributed to Winston Churchill that "It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations".

This is a well written which narrates a brave journey of a passionate and a determined archeologist. The book contains a detailed description of how great and noble things achieved despite hurdles that show up on the journey. This story of a man who was born in a middle class muslim family who grew up to be a seasoned, brilliant and one of the the best archaeologist that India has produced, is truly inspiring.
The author while narrating his story throws light on how Marxist historians like Irfan Habib have spoiled all the various fields of education including archaeology. The journey exhibits the courage that Sri KK Muhammed had to speak against the Marxist historians, Islamic fanatic groups and also VHP.
Here are a few things which I really liked about this book: Its truly an eye opener learning about the excavations that led to Ibadat Khana built by Akbar with an intention to promote discussions across all religions. The stories of discovery of Gunga Mahal, Christian Chapel built by Akbar is really interesting. I admire the courage he had to speak the truth about the fact that Babri Masjid was built on Rama temple also produces proofs to prove his point.
It mind boggling to learn that Dhanvantri's (the father of medicine)Prayogashala (lab) was excavated near Arogya Vihaar near Kumrahar in Bihar! Every Indian today take pride of the prestigious Nalanda University which was the center of knowledge in the past. The author explains how the archaeological discoveries helped date back this university to 14th century BCE! Its good to know that this university was established many hundred years before Bologna University ( 11th century), Paris university (12), Oxford and Cambridge universities (13th century). At the same time it is really sad that this great institution was burnt and completely destroyed by tyrant Bakhtiyar Khilji. The author does not fail to explain the plunder of Islamic invasion.
I like how Sri KK Muhammed took an opportunity to introduce history as part of each chapter! LIke, he introduces King Nagabhata of Gujjar pratihara dynasty who crushed large army of Mlechha invaders and that the dynasty stopped Muslim invasion for 300 years.
Every Indian must be thankful to the work that he has done with reconstructing the bateshwar temple from rags. The discussion about how they assembled the temple parts and the way they figured out the god to which it belonged to is mind blowing!
Overall this book is a very good read and you will not be disappointed.

"मैं हूँ भारतीय" उन इतिहास रसिकों को पसंद आएगी जो ऐतिहासिक स्मारकों एवं उनसे जुड़ी कहानियों से ज्यादा जानने को आतुर रहते है। भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण के पूर्व अफ़सर श्रीमान के के मुहम्मद की इस आत्मकथा से कई नयी जानकारियां, भारतीय इतिहास का संरक्षण करने वाले विभागों में फैली आपसी रंजिशें एवं कुछ बेहद महत्वपूर्ण स्मारकों के उत्खन्न के किस्से पाठकों तक पहुँचते हैं।
सबसे पहले बात करते है किताब में भाषा के प्रयोग एवं बहाव की। मुहम्मद जी ने शुरुआत में ही लिख दिया है की उन्होंने यह आत्मकथा अपनी मादरी ज़ुबान मलयालम में लिखी है, जो काबिल-ए -तारीफ़ है। इसके बाद उनके मित्रों ने इसका अनुवाद अंग्रेजी और हिंदी में किया। हिंदी तर्जुमे को एक शानदार कार्य नहीं कह सकते चूँकि भाषा प्रयोग कई जगह कमजोर है और कुछ हिस्से तो काफी बुरे अनुवादित हुए है। यूँ तो भाषा काफी सहज है मगर काफी त्रुटियाँ देखने को मिली। इसी तरह कई जगह पर वाक्यों में जुड़ाव की कमी भी लगी। किसी अच्छे सम्पादक से समीक्षा करके किताब की भाषा रोचक एवं प्रभाशाली बनाई जा सकती थी।
श्री मुहम्मद ने अपने कार्यकाल में काफी महत्वपूर्ण स्मारकों एवं प्रोजेक्ट्स पर काम किया। वह भ. पु. स. के क्षेत्रीय निदेशक (उत्तर) से सेवानिर्वित्त हुए। उन्होंने केरला में बचपन बिताया एवं पढाई करने अलीगढ मुस्लिम यूनिवर्सिटी आ गए। काफी वक़्त यहाँ बिताया और वामपंथी पक्षपात को बेहद करीब से देखा। भारतीय इतिहास के अकादमिक ओहदे में शीर्ष पर बैठे इरफ़ान हबीब इनके प्रोफ़ेसर रहे जिनके साथ आज तक इनका मतभेद जारी है और आत्मकथा का एक बड़ा हिस्सा यही बताने में गया की हबीब और उनके चेलों ने किस प्रकार मुहम्मद जी के कार्य को रोकने या बिगड़ने की कोशिश करी। असल हकीक़त हम जैसे पाठकों से हमेशा दूर रहेगी क्यूंकि इतिहासकारों के खेमों में किस प्रकार से राजनीती चलती है इसका आम जनता तक खबर होना मुश्किल है। मगर यह जरूरर है की मुहम्मद जी ने बेबाक होकर समस्त प्रकरणों से जुड़ें सभी व्यक्तियों के नामों को बेझिझक लिखा है। शायद इन लोगों के नामों का खुले से इस्तेमाल करने से मुहम्मद जी का पक्ष मजबूत दिखे मगर हमे लिखे गए नामों में से किसी भी व्यक्ति के विचार जानने का मौका शायद कभी नहीं मिलेगा। वैसे जिन हस्तियों के नाम लिए गए है, उनमें से किसी को लगे की मुहम्मद जी ने गलत बात लिखी है तो वह कोर्ट का जरिया अख़्तियार कर सकता हैं।
मगर एक बात जो पाठकों तक पहुंचेगी वह है की किस प्रकार से मुहम्मद जी ने दुसरे पक्ष को एकदम नकारात्मक रूप दिया है और स्वयं के कार्य को अव्वल तथा हर मायने में बेहतर करार दिया है। इस बात की भी पुष्टि करना पाठको के लिए असंभव है। अपितु खुद के मुहँ मियाँ मिट्ठू बनने की कोशिश कई जगह शायद अपठनीय भी लगे।
वैसे जो बात पाठको तक जरूर पहुंचेगी वह है मुहम्मद जी के द्वारा कराये गए कुछ बेहतरीन कार्य, उनके निडर हौसले से लिए गए निर्णय एवं समाज को बेहतर बनाने की एक ललक। डाकुओं से लेकर बिहार के स्थानीय गुर्गों तक, चरमपंथी राजनेताओं से लेकर विभाग में बैठे डरपोक अफसरों तक, मुहम्मद जी ने अपने जीवन में हुए कई किस्सों को साझा किया है। उनके द्वारा किये उत्खन्न के कार्यों को उन्हीं की जुबानी पढ़े तो बेहतर रहेगा इसीलिए उन किस्सों की चर्चा नहीं होनी चाहिए। इतना जरूर है की चाहे गोवा के चर्च हो या बीहड़ इलाकों में खस्ताहाल मंदिरो या फिर विवादित बाबरी मस्जिद, मुहम्मद जी ने काफी निडरता से अपना काम किया और निःसंकोच आवाज़ उठायी।
इस बीच यह साझा जरूर करना चाहूंगा की इस आत्मकथा के माध्यम से एक जानकारी मिली है जो सभी इतिहास प्रेमियों को पता होना चाहिए। भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण के नियमानुसार किसी भी धार्मिक स्थान को लेते समय अगर वहाँ प्रार्थना या पूजा-पाठ चालू होती है तो उसे जारी रखने की अनुमति होती है। नए सिरे से कुछ भी शुरू करने की अनुमति नहीं दी जाती। चाहे वह किसी भी धर्म का हो।
मुहम्मद जी ने धार्मिक एकता एवं भारत के गौरवशाली इतिहास को लेकर बेहद संजीदगी एवं भाव से लिखा है। उनके सपनों का भारत किसी समुदाय विशेष से प्रभावित न होकर एक समासिक समागम है जिसका अभिमान उनके कार्य और विचार से झलकता है। कोशिश की जानी चाहिए की मुहम्मद जी जैसे और भी लोग जिन्होंने अपने अपने क्षेत्रों में अभिनव काम किया वह अपने विचार आम जन तक पहुचायें ताकि अकादमिक दायरे से बाहर बैठ कर लोग एक नए नजरिये से बौद्धिक विचरण करें।

An Indian archaeologist’s no-holds barred reminiscences and thoughts about the future of his profession - it’s rare to find a non-fiction work that is so absorbing and at the same time enlightening!
Shri Muhammed is at his best when laying out the strategies and tactics of his opponents (Marxist historians who still control all the resources and the official version of India’s history- e.g. Irfan Habib, Shirin Moosvi, Romila Thapar,…) as well as the excitement of archaeological discovery and conservation at the various sites he has worked at.
I could not put the book down until the last couple chapters - policy prescriptions for how the profession (& the government) should move forward and the need for introspection among muslims, especially Indian muslims.

I had ordered this book after reading some statements of Mr. Muhammad on social media. I checked about him on Quora, and I really got interested in his way of looking at things.
The book is a very well written work with things explained in a very liberal, progressive and open manner.
Through this work of his, Mr. Mohammad has explained the world of archeology to a common person. What are the challenges faced and how difficult things can become if not handled with care and sincerity.
The book is full of anecdotes and some great narratives of some notable conservation efforts like Bateshwar Temple in Morena and also of historical significance of the monuments testifying the rich cultural heritage of India.
Out of all what outshines other things is the passion of Mr. Muhammad towards conservation of our heritage and his true and pure feelings towards everything is coming out from the book,, and is an inspiration to anyone in any profession.
In short, a very good book and I enjoyed everything about it.
The book is a very well written work with things explained in a very liberal, progressive and open manner.
Through this work of his, Mr. Mohammad has explained the world of archeology to a common person. What are the challenges faced and how difficult things can become if not handled with care and sincerity.
The book is full of anecdotes and some great narratives of some notable conservation efforts like Bateshwar Temple in Morena and also of historical significance of the monuments testifying the rich cultural heritage of India.
Out of all what outshines other things is the passion of Mr. Muhammad towards conservation of our heritage and his true and pure feelings towards everything is coming out from the book,, and is an inspiration to anyone in any profession.
In short, a very good book and I enjoyed everything about it.

"मैं हूँ भारतीय" उन इतिहास रसिकों को पसंद आएगी जो ऐतिहासिक स्मारकों एवं उनसे जुड़ी कहानियों से ज्यादा जानने को आतुर रहते है। भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण के पूर्व अफ़सर श्रीमान के के मुहम्मद की इस आत्मकथा से कई नयी जानकारियां, भारतीय इतिहास का संरक्षण करने वाले विभागों में फैली आपसी रंजिशें एवं कुछ बेहद महत्वपूर्ण स्मारकों के उत्खन्न के किस्से पाठकों तक पहुँचते हैं।
सबसे पहले बात करते है किताब में भाषा के प्रयोग एवं बहाव की। मुहम्मद जी ने शुरुआत में ही लिख दिया है की उन्होंने यह आत्मकथा अपनी मादरी ज़ुबान मलयालम में लिखी है, जो काबिल-ए -तारीफ़ है। इसके बाद उनके मित्रों ने इसका अनुवाद अंग्रेजी और हिंदी में किया। हिंदी तर्जुमे को एक शानदार कार्य नहीं कह सकते चूँकि भाषा प्रयोग कई जगह कमजोर है और कुछ हिस्से तो काफी बुरे अनुवादित हुए है। यूँ तो भाषा काफी सहज है मगर काफी त्रुटियाँ देखने को मिली। इसी तरह कई जगह पर वाक्यों में जुड़ाव की कमी भी लगी। किसी अच्छे सम्पादक से समीक्षा करके किताब की भाषा रोचक एवं प्रभाशाली बनाई जा सकती थी।
श्री मुहम्मद ने अपने कार्यकाल में काफी महत्वपूर्ण स्मारकों एवं प्रोजेक्ट्स पर काम किया। वह भ. पु. स. के क्षेत्रीय निदेशक (उत्तर) से सेवानिर्वित्त हुए। उन्होंने केरला में बचपन बिताया एवं पढाई करने अलीगढ मुस्लिम यूनिवर्सिटी आ गए। काफी वक़्त यहाँ बिताया और वामपंथी पक्षपात को बेहद करीब से देखा। भारतीय इतिहास के अकादमिक ओहदे में शीर्ष पर बैठे इरफ़ान हबीब इनके प्रोफ़ेसर रहे जिनके साथ आज तक इनका मतभेद जारी है और आत्मकथा का एक बड़ा हिस्सा यही बताने में गया की हबीब और उनके चेलों ने किस प्रकार मुहम्मद जी के कार्य को रोकने या बिगड़ने की कोशिश करी। असल हकीक़त हम जैसे पाठकों से हमेशा दूर रहेगी क्यूंकि इतिहासकारों के खेमों में किस प्रकार से राजनीती चलती है इसका आम जनता तक खबर होना मुश्किल है। मगर यह जरूरर है की मुहम्मद जी ने बेबाक होकर समस्त प्रकरणों से जुड़ें सभी व्यक्तियों के नामों को बेझिझक लिखा है। शायद इन लोगों के नामों का खुले से इस्तेमाल करने से मुहम्मद जी का पक्ष मजबूत दिखे मगर हमे लिखे गए नामों में से किसी भी व्यक्ति के विचार जानने का मौका शायद कभी नहीं मिलेगा। वैसे जिन हस्तियों के नाम लिए गए है, उनमें से किसी को लगे की मुहम्मद जी ने गलत बात लिखी है तो वह कोर्ट का जरिया अख��्तियार कर सकता हैं।
मगर एक बात जो पाठकों तक पहुंचेगी वह है की किस प्रकार से मुहम्मद जी ने दुसरे पक्ष को एकदम नकारात्मक रूप दिया है और स्वयं के कार्य को अव्वल तथा हर मायने में बेहतर करार दिया है। इस बात की भी पुष्टि करना पाठको के लिए असंभव है। अपितु खुद के मुहँ मियाँ मिट्ठू बनने की कोशिश कई जगह शायद अपठनीय भी लगे।
वैसे जो बात पाठको तक जरूर पहुंचेगी वह है मुहम्मद जी के द्वारा कराये गए कुछ बेहतरीन कार्य, उनके निडर हौसले से लिए गए निर्णय एवं समाज को बेहतर बनाने की एक ललक। डाकुओं से लेकर बिहार के स्थानीय गुर्गों तक, चरमपंथी राजनेताओं से लेकर विभाग में बैठे डरपोक अफसरों तक, मुहम्मद जी ने अपने जीवन में हुए कई किस्सों को साझा किया है। उनके द्वारा किये उत्खन्न के कार्यों को उन्हीं की जुबानी पढ़े तो बेहतर रहेगा इसीलिए उन किस्सों की चर्चा नहीं होनी चाहिए। इतना जरूर है की चाहे गोवा के चर्च हो या बीहड़ इलाकों में खस्ताहाल मंदिरो या फिर विवादित बाबरी मस्जिद, मुहम्मद जी ने काफी निडरता से अपना काम किया और निःसंकोच आवाज़ उठायी।
इस बीच यह साझा जरूर करना चाहूंगा की इस आत्मकथा के माध्यम से एक जानकारी मिली है जो सभी इतिहास प्रेमियों को पता होना चाहिए। भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण के नियमानुसार किसी भी धार्मिक स्थान को लेते समय अगर वहाँ प्रार्थना या पूजा-पाठ चालू होती है तो उसे जारी रखने की अनुमति होती है। नए सिरे से कुछ भी शुरू करने की अनुमति नहीं दी जाती। चाहे वह किसी भी धर्म का हो।
मुहम्मद जी ने धार्मिक एकता एवं भारत के गौरवशाली इतिहास को लेकर बेहद संजीदगी एवं भाव से लिखा है। उनके सपनों का भारत किसी समुदाय विशेष से प्रभावित न होकर एक समासिक समागम है जिसका अभिमान उनके कार्य और विचार से झलकता है। कोशिश की जानी चाहिए की मुहम्मद जी जैसे और भी लोग जिन्होंने अपने अपने क्षेत्रों में अभिनव काम किया वह अपने विचार आम जन तक पहुचायें ताकि अकादमिक दायरे से बाहर बैठ कर लोग एक नए नजरिये से बौद्धिक विचरण करें।
मुहम्मद जी को उनके कार्य के लिए बधाई एवं आशा है की वह आगे भी कुछ और ज्ञानवर्द्धक जानकारी आमजन तक पहुचायेंगे।

Maybe my comparison is wrong but I would like to say that KK Muhammad is the Abdul Kalam of Indian Archeology.
Not because he raised the issue of the temple built under the Babri Masjid or because he renovated many Hindu temples.
But because he always remained impartial, spoke impartially and worked impartially, no matter how many times it cost him his job.
This book of his should be read by every Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Jew etc. who considers himself an Indian and has interest in Indian history and archeology.

കോഴിക്കോടിനടുത്ത കൊടുവള്ളിക്കാരനായ കെ.കെ.മുഹമ്മദ് ഏതാനും വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു മുൻപുവരെ മലയാളികളെ സംബന്ധിച്ചിടത്തോളം ജോലിതേടി നാടുവിട്ട അനേകായിരങ്ങളിൽ ഒരുവൻ മാത്രമായിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ആർക്കിയോളജി വകുപ്പിലെ ഡയരക്ടർ തസ്തികയിലേക്കുയർന്ന് ഭാരതീയ ചരിത്രസ്മാരകങ്ങളെ വിദേശരാഷ്ട്രത്തലവൻമാർക്ക് വിശദീകരിച്ചു കൊടുക്കാനായി നിയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടപ്പോഴാണ് ഈ മനുഷ്യൻ നമ്മളിലൊരാളാണെന്നും കേരളക്കരയുടെ യശസ്സ് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിലൂടെ വാനോളമുയർന്നു എന്നും നാം മനസ്സിലാക്കിയത്. അലിഗഡ് മുസ്ലിം സർവകലാശാലയിൽ ബിരുദ, ബിരുദാനന്തര പഠനത്തിനുശേഷം ആർക്കിയോളജി പഠനം വിജയകരമായി പൂർത്തിയാക്കി 1988-ൽ ആർക്കിയോളജിക്കൽ സർവേ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ജോലി നേടിയതിനുശേഷം 24 വർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞ് വിരമിക്കുന്നതുവരെ സ്തുത്യർഹമായ പ്രവർത്തനമാണ് ലേഖകൻ കാഴ്ച വെച്ചത്. ഈ സംഭവപരമ്പരയുടെ വസ്തുതാപരമായ നേർക്കാഴ്ചയാണ് ആത്മകഥാരൂപേണ ഈ പുസ്തകം നല്കുന്നത്.
അലിഗഡ് മുസ്ലിം സർവകലാശാലയിലെ ചരിത്രവിഭാഗം അദ്ധ്യാപകനും, പ്രമുഖ ചരിത്രപണ്ഡിതനുമായ ഇർഫാൻ ഹബീബ് നിരവധി ആരോപണങ്ങൾ നേരിടുന്ന ഒരു വിവാദനായകനാണ്. ഈ കള്ളനാണയത്തിന്റെ യഥാർത്ഥമാറ്റ് പുറത്താക്കുന്നതാണ് മുഹമ്മദിന്റെ അലിഗഡ് സർവകലാശാലയിലെ അനുഭവക്കുറിപ്പുകൾ. കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് സഹയാത്രികനായ ഹബീബ് നേരായതും അല്ലാത്തതുമായ മാർഗങ്ങളിലൂടെ സഹപ്രവർത്തകരുടേയും വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടേയും മേൽ കുതിര കയറുന്നതിന്റെ പച്ചയായ വിവരണം നാം കാണുന്നു. തന്നെ എതിർക്കുന്നവരെ - അവർ ഹിന്ദുവാണെങ്കിൽ ആർ. എസ്സ്. എസ്സുകാരനെന്നും മുസ്ലിമാണെങ്കിൽ ജമാ അത്തുകാരനാണെന്നും - ആക്ഷേപിച്ച് നിലംപരിശാക്കുന്നതിൽ ഇർഫാൻ ഹബീബ് അഗ്രഗണ്യനായിരുന്നു. അത്തരക്കാരെ ഒതുക്കാൻ എത്ര തരംതാണ നടപടികളും അദ്ദേഹം അവലംബിച്ചിരുന്നു. കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് ചരിത്രകാരന്മാരുടെ കൈകളിലാണ് മിക്ക ചരിത്രഗവേഷണസ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുമെന്നതിനാൽ തന്റെ എതിരാളികളെ ഒരു സ്ഥാപനത്തിലും പ്രവേശിപ്പിക്കാത്ത വിധത്തിൽ തകർത്തുകളയാൻ ഇടതുപക്ഷ ചരിത്രകാരന്മാരുടെ ഈ മാഫിയക്ക് സാധിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.
ചെന്നൈ, ഗോവ, ബീഹാർ, ഛത്തീസ്ഗഡ്, മദ്ധ്യപ്രദേശ്, ഡൽഹി എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ മുഹമ്മദ് സേവനമനുഷ്ടിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അക്ബർ ചക്രവർത്തിയുടെ ഇബാദത്ത് ഖാനയുടെ സ്ഥാനം കണ്ടെത്തി വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നതിൽ അദ്ദേഹം നിർണായക പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു. നക്സലൈറ്റുകളോടും ചമ്പൽ കൊള്ളക്കാരോടും അല്പം വിട്ടുവീഴ്ച ചെയ്തിട്ടാണെങ്കിലും തന്റെ ജോലി ഭംഗിയായി പൂർത്തീകരിക്കുന്നതിൽ ലേഖകൻ വിജയിച്ചു. നിരവധി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും ഗോവൻ പള്ളികളും ഇസ്ലാമികദേവാലയങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ നവീകരിച്ചതുകൂടാതെ അനവധി സ്മാരകങ്ങൾ യാതൊരു കേടുംകൂടാതെ കിലോമീറ്ററുകൾ ദൂരത്തേക്ക് മാറ്റിസ്ഥാപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. നിയമവിരുദ്ധമായ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കുമുന്നിൽ മുഹമ്മദ് മുട്ടുമടക്കിയില്ല. അത്തരം അനധികൃത അവകാശവാദങ്ങളെ ചെറുത്തുതോൽപ്പിക്കാൻ നിയമപുസ്തകത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്തതും, എന്നാൽ സമാധാനപരവുമായ മാർഗങ്ങൾ അവലംബിച്ചു. നിരന്തരം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടും ചരിത്രസ്മാരകങ്ങൾക്കു ഭീഷണിയായ നിർമാണപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ തടയാൻ രാഷ്ട്രീയ, ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥവൃന്ദം ബി.ജെ.പി ഭരിക്കുന്ന മദ്ധ്യപ്രദേശിൽ മടി കാണിച്ചപ്പോൾ ആർ. എസ്സ്. എസ്സ് മേധാവിയായ സുദർശന് കത്തെഴുതി ഇരുപത്തിനാലു മണിക്കൂറുകൾക്കുള്ളിൽ നിർമാണപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ നിർത്തിച്ചു എന്നത് മുഹമ്മദിന്റെ ഇച്ഛാശക്തിയുടെ സൂചകമാണ്. മാറിവരുന്ന സർക്കാരുകൾ ഉപനിഷത്തുകളിലും പുരാണങ്ങളിലും പരാമർശിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലങ്ങൾ പര്യവേക്ഷണം ചെയ്ത്, അതിർത്തി നിർണയിച്ച് സർക്കാർ ഭൂമിയാക്കി സംരക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്റെ ആവശ്യകത ലേഖകൻ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടുന്നു.
മദ്ധ്യകാലഘട്ടത്തിലെ മുസ്ലിം ആക്രമണങ്ങൾ ഭാരതചരിത്രത്തിലേയും അതിനോട് ഇഴപിരിയാനാവാത്തവിധം അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന ആധുനിക സാമൂഹ്യജീവിതത്തിലേയും ഇനിയും ഉണങ്ങാത്ത മുറിവുകളാണ്. വ്യാപകമായ വിധത്തിൽ ക്ഷേത്രധ്വംസനം നടത്തിയ മതവെറി പൂണ്ട സുൽത്താന്മാർ സമ്പത്തു കൈക്കലാക്കാനാണ് അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തത് എന്ന രീതിയിൽ വെള്ളപൂശി, സാധാരണ മുസ്ലിം ജനസമൂഹത്തെ ആശയക്കുഴപ്പത്തിലാക്കുന്ന ഇടതു ചരിത്രകാരന്മാരുടെ നിന്ദ്യമായ രാഷ്ട്രീയതാല്പര്യങ്ങൾ ലേഖകൻ നിർദാക്ഷിണ്യം തുറന്നുകാണിക്കുന്നു. മദ്ധ്യഭരണകാലത്തെ മുസ്ലിം രാജാക്കന്മാർക്ക് തെറ്റുപറ്റി എന്നു പറയാൻ മുസ്ലീങ്ങളും ചരിത്രത്തിൽ പിണഞ്ഞ തെറ്റുകൾ പൊറുക്കാൻ ഹിന്ദുക്കളും തയ്യാറായാൽ മാത്രമേ രാഷ്ട്രവികസനം സുഗമമാവുകയുള്ളൂ എന്ന് ഗ്രന്ഥം വിലയിരുത്തുന്നു. അയോദ്ധ്യയിലെ രാമജന്മഭൂമി - ബാബറി മസ്ജിദ് പ്രശ്നം കത്തിനിൽക്കുമ്പോൾ മുസ്ലിം നിലപാട് തെറ്റാണെന്നു വെളിപ്പെടുത്താൻ ലേഖകൻ ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു. 1976-77ൽ അയോദ്ധ്യയിൽ ഗവേഷണപഠനത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ലേഖകൻ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന സംഘം തർക്കഭൂമിയിൽ നിന്ന് കണ്ടെടുത്ത അവിതർക്കിതമായ ക്ഷേത്രാവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളുടെ ചിത്രങ്ങളും വിവരങ്ങളും പുസ്തകത്തിൽ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഒരു ഒത്തുതീർപ്പു ഫോർമുലയുടെ ഭാഗമായി അയോദ്ധ്യയിലെ വിവാദമന്ദിരം ഹിന്ദുക്കൾക്കായി വിട്ടുനല്കാൻ മുസ്ലിം സമൂഹം ഏതാണ്ട് തയാറായിരുന്നുവെന്നും, ഇടതുപക്ഷ ചരിത്രകാരന്മാരുടെ കുടിലതന്ത്രങ്ങളാണ് അത് വിഫലമാക്കിയതെന്നും ഗ്രന്ഥകർത്താവ് പ്രസ്താവിക്കുന്നു. കോടതികൾക്കു പുറത്ത് ഇരുകൂട്ടർക്കും തുല്യമായി സ്വീകാര്യമായ രീതിയിൽ ഈ പ്രശ്നം അവസാനിക്കുകയാണെങ്കിൽ രാഷ്ട്രപുരോഗതിക്ക് എത്ര ശക്തമായ അടിത്തറയായിത്തീരുമായിരുന്നു അത്! ഹിന്ദു-മുസ്ലിം വർഗീയതകളെ അവയുടെ ആന്തരികാർത്ഥത്തിൽ തന്നെ ഈ ഘട്ടത്തിൽ വേർതിരിച്ചു കാണേണ്ടതുണ്ട്. ഹിന്ദുവർഗീയത മൗലികരൂപത്തിലുള്ളതല്ല. മറ്റു സംഭവങ്ങളുടെ തിരിച്ചടി എന്ന നിലയിലാണ് പലപ്പോഴും അത് പത്തി വിടർത്തുന്നത് (പേജ് 124). മുസ്ലിം തീവ്രവാദസംഘടനകളിൽ അംഗമായിരുന്നുകൊണ്ട് ഇന്ത്യയിലെ മതേതരത്വത്തിന്റെ കുഴപ്പങ്ങൾ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടുന്നവരോട് ഇന്ത്യ ഒരു മുസ്ല���ം ഭൂരിപക്ഷ രാജ്യമായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ മതേതരത്വം അനുവദിച്ചു കൊടുക്കുമായിരുന്നോ എന്നും ലേഖകൻ ചോദിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
ഇങ്ങനെയൊക്കെയാണെങ്കിലും ഒരു ചരിത്രകാരനുവേണ്ടതായ ദേശീയതക്കുപരിയായ ലോകവീക്ഷണം ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ പ്രകടമായി കാണുന്നില്ല. സമർപ്പണത്തിന്റെ കാര്യത്തിൽ ജപ്പാൻകാരെ മാതൃകയാക്കാമെന്നും അവിടെ രാജ്യത്തിനായി സ്വയം ബലിയർപ്പിക്കാൻ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടാൽ ആയിരം പേർ തയ്യാറായി വരുമെന്നും പറയുമ്പോൾ മുഹമ്മദ് രണ്ടാം ലോകയുദ്ധത്തിലെ കമികസെ പോരാളികളെ ന്യായീകരിക്കുകയാണോ എന്നും ദേശീയതയുടെ ആധുനികനാട്യങ്ങളിൽ വീണുപോയോ എന്നും സംശയിക്കേണ്ടിവരും.
പുസ്തകം ശക്തിയായി ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യുന്നു.
അലിഗഡ് മുസ്ലിം സർവകലാശാലയിലെ ചരിത്രവിഭാഗം അദ്ധ്യാപകനും, പ്രമുഖ ചരിത്രപണ്ഡിതനുമായ ഇർഫാൻ ഹബീബ് നിരവധി ആരോപണങ്ങൾ നേരിടുന്ന ഒരു വിവാദനായകനാണ്. ഈ കള്ളനാണയത്തിന്റെ യഥാർത്ഥമാറ്റ് പുറത്താക്കുന്നതാണ് മുഹമ്മദിന്റെ അലിഗഡ് സർവകലാശാലയിലെ അനുഭവക്കുറിപ്പുകൾ. കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് സഹയാത്രികനായ ഹബീബ് നേരായതും അല്ലാത്തതുമായ മാർഗങ്ങളിലൂടെ സഹപ്രവർത്തകരുടേയും വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടേയും മേൽ കുതിര കയറുന്നതിന്റെ പച്ചയായ വിവരണം നാം കാണുന്നു. തന്നെ എതിർക്കുന്നവരെ - അവർ ഹിന്ദുവാണെങ്കിൽ ആർ. എസ്സ്. എസ്സുകാരനെന്നും മുസ്ലിമാണെങ്കിൽ ജമാ അത്തുകാരനാണെന്നും - ആക്ഷേപിച്ച് നിലംപരിശാക്കുന്നതിൽ ഇർഫാൻ ഹബീബ് അഗ്രഗണ്യനായിരുന്നു. അത്തരക്കാരെ ഒതുക്കാൻ എത്ര തരംതാണ നടപടികളും അദ്ദേഹം അവലംബിച്ചിരുന്നു. കമ്യൂണിസ്റ്റ് ചരിത്രകാരന്മാരുടെ കൈകളിലാണ് മിക്ക ചരിത്രഗവേഷണസ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുമെന്നതിനാൽ തന്റെ എതിരാളികളെ ഒരു സ്ഥാപനത്തിലും പ്രവേശിപ്പിക്കാത്ത വിധത്തിൽ തകർത്തുകളയാൻ ഇടതുപക്ഷ ചരിത്രകാരന്മാരുടെ ഈ മാഫിയക്ക് സാധിക്കുമായിരുന്നു.
ചെന്നൈ, ഗോവ, ബീഹാർ, ഛത്തീസ്ഗഡ്, മദ്ധ്യപ്രദേശ്, ഡൽഹി എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ മുഹമ്മദ് സേവനമനുഷ്ടിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അക്ബർ ചക്രവർത്തിയുടെ ഇബാദത്ത് ഖാനയുടെ സ്ഥാനം കണ്ടെത്തി വികസിപ്പിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നതിൽ അദ്ദേഹം നിർണായക പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു. നക്സലൈറ്റുകളോടും ചമ്പൽ കൊള്ളക്കാരോടും അല്പം വിട്ടുവീഴ്ച ചെയ്തിട്ടാണെങ്കിലും തന്റെ ജോലി ഭംഗിയായി പൂർത്തീകരിക്കുന്നതിൽ ലേഖകൻ വിജയിച്ചു. നിരവധി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും ഗോവൻ പള്ളികളും ഇസ്ലാമികദേവാലയങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ നവീകരിച്ചതുകൂടാതെ അനവധി സ്മാരകങ്ങൾ യാതൊരു കേടുംകൂടാതെ കിലോമീറ്ററുകൾ ദൂരത്തേക്ക് മാറ്റിസ്ഥാപിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. നിയമവിരുദ്ധമായ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കുമുന്നിൽ മുഹമ്മദ് മുട്ടുമടക്കിയില്ല. അത്തരം അനധികൃത അവകാശവാദങ്ങളെ ചെറുത്തുതോൽപ്പിക്കാൻ നിയമപുസ്തകത്തിൽ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്തതും, എന്നാൽ സമാധാനപരവുമായ മാർഗങ്ങൾ അവലംബിച്ചു. നിരന്തരം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടും ചരിത്രസ്മാരകങ്ങൾക്കു ഭീഷണിയായ നിർമാണപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ തടയാൻ രാഷ്ട്രീയ, ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥവൃന്ദം ബി.ജെ.പി ഭരിക്കുന്ന മദ്ധ്യപ്രദേശിൽ മടി കാണിച്ചപ്പോൾ ആർ. എസ്സ്. എസ്സ് മേധാവിയായ സുദർശന് കത്തെഴുതി ഇരുപത്തിനാലു മണിക്കൂറുകൾക്കുള്ളിൽ നിർമാണപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ നിർത്തിച്ചു എന്നത് മുഹമ്മദിന്റെ ഇച്ഛാശക്തിയുടെ സൂചകമാണ്. മാറിവരുന്ന സർക്കാരുകൾ ഉപനിഷത്തുകളിലും പുരാണങ്ങളിലും പരാമർശിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലങ്ങൾ പര്യവേക്ഷണം ചെയ്ത്, അതിർത്തി നിർണയിച്ച് സർക്കാർ ഭൂമിയാക്കി സംരക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്റെ ആവശ്യകത ലേഖകൻ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടുന്നു.

ശ്രീ.കെ.കെ മുഹമ്മദിന്റെ "ഞാനെന്ന ഭാരതീയൻ"ഓരോ ഭാരതീയനും വായിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ട പുസ്തകമാണെന്ന് നിസംശയം പറയാം.നമ്മുടെ നാടിന്റെ പൈതൃകത്തെ പറ്റി നാം ഓരോരുത്തരും ബോധവാന്മാരെക്കണ്ടതിന്റെ ആവശ്യകതയെ കുറിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം കൃത്യമായി ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഔദ്യാഗിക ജീവിതത്തിൽ പലപ്പോഴും മത - രാഷ്ട്രീയ കക്ഷികളിൽ നിന്ന് വിവിധ വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ എതിർപ്പുകൾ നേരിട്ടപ്പോഴും സത്യത്തിനും ,ദേശീയതക്കും വേണ്ടി അദ്ദേഹം പതറാതെ നിലകൊണ്ടത് മാതൃകാപരവും അഭിനന്ദനാർഹവുമാണ്.
