Marion Kummerow was born and raised in Germany, before she set out to "discover the world" and lived in various countries. In 1999 she returned to Germany and settled down in Munich where she's now living with her family.

After dipping her toes with non-fiction books, she finally tackled the project dear to her heart. UNRELENTING is the story about her grandparents, who belonged to the German resistance and fought against the Nazi regime.

It's a book about resilience, love and the courage to stand up and do the right thing.

On April 8, 1945, World War II ended in the European Theatre. In the book Together Again by Marion Kummerow, the Klausen women all are waiting for the men in the family to return.

Fraulein Klausen, the girls’ mother (Mutter), is waiting for her husband and the family’s father Georg who was a POW in the Soviet Union. All three daughters are waiting for the men in their lives.

Ursula and her daughter Evie are staying with Aunt Lydia on her farm in the Bavaria area of Germany. Ursula is waiting for Tom Westlake an RAF pilot she had rescued and risked her life to get him back to the British area.

Anna is a nurse in Berlin. Will her boss and mentor Professor Scherer be able to persuade the Soviets to help return Peter?

Lotte who was in Norway working for the Germans (but spying for Britain) has to have a way back to Germany. She is waiting for Johann to return. He is a POW of the Soviet Union.

Will the Klausen family finally all be reunited again?

The storyline of the book includes the Klausen family after the ending of World War II and some of the issues and challenges of that period. Now the allies are left with the daunting task of reuniting and rebuilding.

All across Europe, there is waste and want. Berlin is now a divided city of four sections governed by France, Britain, America, and the Soviet Union. Berlin was heavily bombed by the Allies leaving the city in almost total ruin and ruble with many buildings not standing or not inhabitable. Where are the people to live as they return home? Much of the infrastructure is gone. There is not any electricity, running water, phone service, or mail delivery. Transportation is lacking with the roads and bridges destroyed in many places. Trains, buses, and planes and airports are also not running or certainly not running as prior to the war. There are few shops open as the goods and raw materials are not available to the shops which force the shops to remain closed. The food supply is quite low in Berlin as it is all across Europe. Also, worry for the next winter coming, will coal be available for heating? So many of these things we all take for granted on a daily basis took many months and even years to finally put back together.

This was a very interesting and informative book. I was rooting for all the Klausen family to finally be reunited. I was also impressed with all the information that was supplied explaining the struggle and persistence that it would have taken to just put Berlin itself back together let alone all of Europe!!!

I highly recommend this excellent book. It was a definite page turner. I could hardly put it down. Each and every book in Marion’s War Girl Series has been a super read. I will and I know others too will be sad when this series is completed!!!

If you aren't familiar with the War Girls series, you don't know what you're missing, especially if you enjoy historical fiction set during WWII. Together at Last provides an exceptional glimpse into life after the war was officially over. People were starving (yes, even after the war), everyone was scattered and with areas occupied by either Russia or the allies, it was extremely difficult for people to travel through occupied areas to get home. Trying to get home, to other family members or even just to find out if loved ones were still alive, was almost impossible. In the midst of this, British pilot Tom sets out to find Ursula, the German woman who saved his life and stole his heart, and figure out if it's possible to make a life together. Though they knew it wouldn't be easy, they face one challenge after another, including their own family and friends in both Germany and England that still perceive anyone of the other nationality as the enemy.

Besides Ursula and Tom's story, this book reveals the fate of each of the missing members of the Klausen family (except for one). Each person's story shows just how terrible war is, no matter what "side" you're on. And yet the will to survive and sometimes the decision to do the right thing, no matter the cost, is inspirational.

Though you can read this book as a stand-alone story, I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the War Girls series and reading them all. An outstanding series by an excellent author!

"Together At Last" is a touching and bittersweet story. Love holds on to hope, even through tough times. This story shows you how extremely hard it was for those at home, waiting on word of their loved one. The communication and still divided world, made it very hard to know anything that was happening to the loved one who went away. Marion, weaves the story of a family into an amazing read. You can feel the emotion and get a true sense of what was happening during WWII. I not only recommend this book, but the whole series! This is my honest review, in exchange for an advanced copy of the book

Well...finally!

It seems so obvious that two people who love each other should be able to get married, but the story of Tom and Ursula shows the emotional and bureaucratic hoops they had to jump through to make that happen. This ninth book in the series pulled together many loose ends and brought people together after years of being apart. But, don’t get the idea that it was easy. Marion Kummerow adeptly weaves the stories of hardship into the fabric of the book. The bitter cold and starvation faced by Germans in the immediate aftermath of WWII were part of the human misery experienced all over Europe. The fact that Ms. Kummerow was able to include well researched facts about this period into her narrative speaks to her ability as a writer.

Another great book from Marion Kummerow regarding the privations and brutality caused by Adolf Hitler and his henchmen. This book takes place after the end of the war, but life was still difficult and often deadly. There were many recriminations between the Germans and the allied victors that made life unpleasant on both sides. A number of loose ends are tied up for the Klausen (War Girls) family and their loved ones and friends. This book can be read stand alone, but is best if one reads the entire War Girl series. That series is enlightening and a true education regarding how the Third Reich affected normal everyday people.

heart warming story

Together at Last, re-unites Tom and Ursula in post war Germany. These are hard times and emotions run high. Marion must be congratulated on capturing the highs and the lows. As a divided city, Berlin was a difficult place to live in. Emotions ran high as the characters carved their way to survive. What I liked about this book was the strong female characters ahead of their time in so many ways. But at the heart of the book is a forbidden love story which began in secret and ended in a beautiful wedding. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

This is the ninth book in the War Girl series. While the story lines are simple, and at times trite, I do enjoy reading them and find the characters engaging. This book, however, disappointed me. It was so poorly edited it was distracting! Typos, mistakes (saying Lotte when Anna was meant), and the worst - entire chapters from previous books essentially pasted into this one. I will read book ten when released next month, but found this to be a let down.

I've read the World War II Trilogy (Unrelenting, Unyielding and Unwavering) and all nine War Girl novels and have enjoyed each and every one. The author does a wonderful job tying all the War Girl novels together and brings in elements from the World War II Trilogy. One cannot help but falling in love with the characters. I am look forward to the release to Endless Ordeal (War Girls Book 10) at the end of July 2019. I have no doubt this will be another 5 star read.

The Tom and Ursula story

I don't know how I missed this book, but glad I found it so I could find out what happened between Tom and Ursula. Also that Richard and Katrina finally found a place they could live and be happy. I loved finding out that Rachel and her sister survived. Another great book in the series.

I really enjoyed reading this book.It was a happy ending for the main characters Tom and Ursula.
I also enjoyed reading about Ursula’s family and their lives too. I have read all the books now except the one about Lottie’s boyfriend Johans who is still incarcerated by the Russians and I am really looking forward to reading this next book called Endless Ordeal.

Marion Kummerow writes the best historical fiction, based on true stories. This is Tom and Ursala's story, but we learn more about others in their families. This is part of The War Girl's series. Love the plot, great settings, and strong intense interesting characters. I can't wait for the next book in the series!!!

War Girls

I haven't been able to put down any of the books in this series, but this is best of all! Gripping, moving and thought provoking. I have a German aunt, who was brought back after the war. I'm glad I've always kept in touch with her now.

Good story on post WWII Germany

Post WWII Germany was difficult for those waiting for their family and those returning home. Never read about the difficulties living there after the war.

This is the tenth book in the War Girl series. Life isn’t easy for anyone after the war is over. Tom and Ursula do meet again but there are many obstacles to overcome. But the Klausen family is resilient.
