Lie to Me is a moving and heartbreaking tale about a young woman who is keeping a secret from everyone including her brother. It is the story of her healing, coping, and coming to terms with it all.
It was ok…it just didn't do much for me. I liked the idea behind it, but I didn't really feel it delivered. It was easy to read and I got through it quickly but it wasn't particularly compelling.
It has a powerful message in it, something that I think is super important. The writing and the character development lacked for me in ways though. The ending was super powerful nonetheless.

In short:
Hero 3/5 | Heroine 3/5 | Plot (Point, Originality) 3/5 | Writing Style 3/5 | Steam 3/5 | Romance 3/5 | Angst-Suspense 3/5 | Darkness 0/5 | Humor 3/5 | Secondary Characters 3/5 | Drama-Conflict 4/5 | Mystery 0/5 | Twists 4/5 | Pacing Fast | Action 3/5

This was a great twist on the usual rock star story - I loved that the lead singer was female. Shiloh was a fresh character with plenty of attitude and passion that she pours into her music. Reid was just plain yummy. Seriously HOT! The damaged alpha drummer. Their history, Shiloh's issues and the action of the band competition made this feel like a really original story. Plenty of chemistry between the two leads and supporting characters I really enjoyed. Will definitely be looking for more stories from this author.

I received an arc of this book.

Shiloh is in a band with her brother and best friend she loves singing but she has a secret. No one knows her secret until Reid her ex that Shiloh still loves figures it out. Shiloh just wants to make everyone happy but this time will she think about herself? Some drama and very hot sexy time in this book and I loved every single page! I really love the cover of this book too it fits the story perfectly. I can’t wait to read more books of this series! 5/5 stars

Although I liked the concept, there was something disturbing me in the execution.
Too much back and forth between Reid and Shiloh and the characters were not adequately developed.
Shiloh’s lines were smart and funny, however I think they did not match with the atmosphere of the specific story.
It was not a book for me.... I read more than half but I couldn’t finish it...

Enjoyed this.

I have not read a rock band story in a long while. This was just what I needed. The banter between sexy hot Reid and very funny Shiloh kept me entertained the whole way through. Do not take this book too serious. Just go along with it and enjoy the ride.

4.5 "Written in the Stars" Stars

From the moment I read the first words, I knew I was in for a treat. And oh boy, I was not disappointed. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I was hooked and I couldn't get enough.

Lie to Me was jam packed with emotion. Shiloh and Reid, the two MCs consumed me. They squeezed at my heart and I couldn't help but feel everything. And I was left catching my breath at certain moments. But I relished every single minute.

Shiloh and Reid have history. Something happens that has left them distant for three years. Reid can't forgive Shiloh for what she did. And Shiloh is trying her hardest to get back to what they once were. But it's easier said than done. Reid can't even look at her, let alone hear her name without having to leave the room every time. Though it's evident that they're made for each other. No matter what, they're meant to be. They're cosmic. These two have chemistry in spades. When they're together it's no doubt their hearts belong to the other. I wanted more, so much more of these two. I honestly couldn't get enough.

REID TATE!!! OMFG, I was owned by him. He's all rugged and glorious and so alpha! I loved and adored him to pieces. Ugh, he made me swoon so hard. Oh for him to real, there's no question the amount of things I'd do to him. Let me rephrase that, there's no question the things I'd let him do up me. *wink*

Lee, yes to everything about this book! I loved, loved, loved it!!! I couldn't put it down. I wanted so much more, and I didn't want it to end. I want everyone to get a book. Especially Tobias, I need him to have a happily ever after. Oh, and I need someone who can tame Jasper, maybe a spicy Latina to put him in his place? But that excerpt, gahhhh I can't wait for more!!! One last thing, I neeeeeeed more Reid! I gotta have more Reid! Please, please, please?

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Lee Piper's latest Novel Lie to Me and all I have to say is that I truly enjoyed this novel. This is the first novel I have read from this author the blurb itself is what first pulled me in and as I started reading the characters and storyline is what kept me reading till the very last page.
Lie to Me follows Shiloh, the lead singer of a band that happens to be competing in a music competition called Rising Star and her journey to ultimately wanting to get a music contract; the only problem is that she is hiding a secret that can end that dream from happening- her fear of crowds. The one person that can help her overcome this fear is her ex boyfriend Reid , who also happens to be the drummer of the competing band who she still has feelings for. Talk about a dielemma!
I loved the push and pull dynamic of both Shiloh and Reid. Their back and forth bantar was great to read! Although Reid comes across as this Alpha male he has this softer side that comes across when you least expect it . He knows when to push Shiloh and I think they balance eachother out perfectly. With Reid's help Shiloh gains the much needed confidence to overcome her fears and as result she and Reid are able to re-eestablish the relationship that either never really let go of.
This rock star romance had everything that you would want in a great book; but I think it had a great deal of depth too. You were able to relate to Shiloh and what she was going through as a result of past experiences so when she finally gets her HEA you can't help but smile! I would recommend this book without hesitation! You will be happily surprised and will want to stay up late to see how it ends! Great start to a new series! Can't wait to see what in store for the second book!!

I need Lee Piper to write more books.
She must give me ALL THE ROCKSTAR BOOKS FOOOOREVER!

I absolutely loved everything about Lie to Me.
This book was sweet, funny, sexy, angsty, exciting, nerve wracking... I could go on and on and on.

Shiloh, her brother Jasper, and best friend Tobias, enter a music competition for a chance to win a contract with the biggest recording label.
One of the competing bands are Shiloh’s other friends, Willow, Drake, and her ex Reid.
Reid is this mega asshole with sleeve tattoos completed with a man bun **insert drool**
During one of the battling competitions, Reid realizes something about Shiloh that nobody else has figured out. Even though Reid HATES Shiloh, he decides to step in and help. And what a way he helps to distract Shiloh.
Oh my god!! I want a tall man-bun wearing, tattoo body, ALPHA drummer to come and help me.

Lee Pipers story telling abilities are top notch. Once I started the book, it was really hard to put down. I didn’t stop reading till 5 in the morning the first night, and the following day when I couldn’t read, the story and characters were on my mind the entire day.

The sex scenes are RIDICULOUS!**yum yum** I had calm myself down a few times, lol. The musical aspect was beautifully written.
I felt myself going through the same motions as Shiloh when she needed to remove herself from everyone and everything to write music. Her fears, I felt. Her accomplishments, I felt. Everything, I felt. It was just perfection.

And, now... I’m begging for more. There a little tease at the end of the book that talks about the following story with another band member, and I am DYING to get it in my hands.
I can already tell it’s gonna be a good one! #ImClaimingZeke

***BLURB***

Cold. Distant. Unattainable.

Reid Tate wasn’t always like this. He once cared for me. Made music with me. Gave his heart and soul to me.

But I ruined it.

The breath-taking boy I used to love is gone. In his place is a man who wants to rip my heart apart and lay my soul bare before thousands. He doesn’t care about the secret that will ruin me. His brand of retribution is destroying my band and ruining our future.

But I promised myself never to let Reid Tate steal my voice again.

Except that’s the problem when dancing with the devil. By the time the music starts it’s already too late.

***

Much love xo

A great first read for me from Lee Piper! I liked the concept and the uniqueness of the story.

I adored Shiloh! I thought she was hilarious and had some great one liners. Reid, with his quietness and Alpha ways, balanced her well. I wish we could've seen him a tad bit more, but overall I thought their relationship was great.

There was a good balance of humor, angst, love, and pain. My heart did break at one point, but it was definitely put back together...

I definitely recommend this book and can't wait for Book 2!

*NOTE - The reason for my taking a while with this one is because of personal reasons.*

This was an awesome first read for me from Lee Piper. I love a good rock star romance and let me just say, this one did not disappoint. I devoured each and every word, flying through the pages, and then was left with one hell of a book hangover.

Shiloh, her brother Jasper and best friend Tobias are hoping to win fame and fortune by entering the Rising Stars music competition. In this battle they are pitted against another local band, which consists of their childhood friends and Shiloh’s ex-boyfriend Reid.

Three years ago, Shiloh deeply hurt Reid and the two of them have hardly spoken since. Now that they are competing together though, Reid learns of her deepest and darkest secret. A secret that could very well ruin her shot at the coveted recording contract. Will Reid decide to let the past go and step in to help her or will he use this secret to benefit his band?

This story was nicely paced and very well written with lots of humor, angst and heat. It was a fantastic start to the new Rising Stars series that I would highly recommend to all.

An empty page, a flashing curser an open mouth (not drooling honest) with thoughts of wow, and oh my..

Shiloh and her brother Jasper along with their childhood friend or best friend in Shilohs case Tobias are up against Reid, Willow and Drake in a talent contest hosted by Rising star to find and book the next big music act.

Sounds simple and straight forward right? wrong ..

Fear does crazy things to people. It paralyzes the rational part of your brain, it turns you into someone so far from the person you were. Can you hide your fears from the people you love when you need to overcome them to achieve your dream?

Whilst you can't rewrite the past nor hide from it the future is yours or in this case Shilohs..

The characters in this book make me almost have to blow on each page. The intensity, the passion, the angst and dramatic atmosphere all blend together perfectly like a riff with a heavenly drum beat.

Scenes so lustful, raunchy, provocative and hot flush inducing, fill your heart with desire for Reid.

If you don't by the end of this want Reid to be yours, then that's ok because I'm more than happy to keep him to myself but I suspect that wont be the case.

What a fantastic start to a new series and I eagerly await the next dose of Lee piper and her magnificent consuming world of rock.

I liked some aspects but the heroine Shiloh was an insensitive asshole.
description
Her treatment of her alleged best friend and the drummer of their band, Tobias, was epically fucked up. This little tart can’t keep from pawing her boyfriend, in front of Tobias, even after Tobias implies he has feelings for her AND he tells her all the horrible things that have happened to him within the last week. Even the hero was a cliche and he could have been epic. So much lost potential.

There were some funny lines but the character relationship building wasn’t there for me. Also, if I had to read about her wet ______________ (enter anything that could be near or part of the female business package here) I was seriously going to break my kindle in half.
description
I skimmed and it was tedious to me.

I gotta say, I might hop on over to read Tobias’ story someday. I want him to have an epic HEA, that poor baby.

He had me at "darlin" And now I will give all the heart eye emojis.... 😍😍😍😍😍

Reid and Shiloh had been friends since they were kids. Shiloh has also been best friends with Tobias forever. Years ago Shiloh did something to mess up what she had going with Reid, and he isn't ready to forgive her. Its a great story about childhood friendships and 2nd chance romance. Along with a healthy dose of friendly competition in a "battle of the bands" kind of way and you have a GREAT 5 🌟 read. This book gave me all the feels! I could feel the love that Shiloh and Reid had for each other (even when they were trying to hide it) I could feel the remorse that Shiloh had for breaking hearts. I could feel the anger that Reid still harbored after 3 years! And I could feel the love and camaraderie that there was between the 2 bands that were competing against each other. They weren't going to allow the competition to come between them and disrupt a lifetime worth of friendships! While I got super attached to Shiloh and Reid I also have to say that I totally fell for the rest of the group too, and I am quite excited to see what happens for the rest of them!

This was the first time I read a Lee Piper novel... and it will not be the last. I am very much looking forward to reading a lot more from her!

Lee Piper’s Lie to Me is honestly something else. The way that Lee portrays Shiloh and Reid’s relationship takes the book to another level. The way that Reid pushes her to get out of her comfort zone, and how Shiloh brings out something in Reid that you can only really see when she’s with him really puts things into another perspective. Especially when you see that it was Shiloh who was the one to back down from their relationship.
The way that the book puts you in Shilohs shoes in such a way that what she feels you feel it too. And it’s such a great way to tell the story.

5 STARS FOR LIE TO ME!! OMG, This story is beautifully written with all the feels, you can't put it down. The book will be in my top 10 for 2018, it is that good. The cover drew me in, and the first page had me knowing I would love this book. It was recommended by a friend, who has never steered me wrong with books. The cover alone drew me in. It's beautiful and unique. This is the first thing I have read by her, but will certainly not be my last! I Can't wait for the next one in this series. As I said, the first page drew me in. The love and acts of retaliation are on a whole new level. The phrases Shiloh uses have me cracking up multiple times. Reid, Wow! He is a rock star god. Both musically and look wise. That typical brooding, sexy, alpha male.

It's a story of two bands, who are friends who are competing in a contest where the winning band gets a recording contract, world tour, fortune, and fame. There is a couple of issues. Wouldn't be a great story without conflict. There is a secret, some hurt feelings, unrequited and reignited love. All around it's a great book. One I would and have recommended on a couple of occasions.

This is actually my first book from Lee Piper and I'm glad I was given the chance to have an early copy for review of this book.

First off, let me tick off the list on why this is a winner book for me.

1. Rockstar (in the making)
2. Dude, drummer. 'nuff said.
3. Second-chance romance
4. Frienemies to lovers
5. Tatted rockstar drummer with a piercing...in his nipples! Damn..

This isn't just your ordinary Rockstar romance. It is way more than that and it tackles issues that I'm actually now learning.

The story evolved around the aspiring rockstars characters on the verge of making it there. This isn't usually the one with lots of groupies and all things rockstar. This is their journey in becoming one.

description

I love how the author managed to pull at my heartstrings at times and made me understand the heroine with her struggles and fear.

I also love the banter and humor in this book especially Shiloh's. And don't let me start with the hero, Reid.

I love most that this author created a hero and a heroine that were both humanly flawed and yet they seem to be stronger than most.

This is definitely a must read.

Lie to Me was absolutely fantastic!! I was hooked from the first sentence and just kept falling in love with the story and characters the further I got into the book. The chemistry between Shiloh and Reid was absolutely electric - even when they hated one another, everyone could still feel the pull between them, no matter how hard they tried to fight it. Reid was the only one who truly understood Shiloh and saw things that her bandmates never noticed. He helped her to find her inner strength and confidence that she was lacking......and the methods he used to do so were hot as hell!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this story, as it was just so good. I loved all the angst, drama, sexiness, humor, friendship, and love. It encompassed everything I really enjoy in a romance story, and I cannot wait to read more in this series!

Lee Piper is a new-to-me author but since I am such a huge fan of Rockstar romance, I had to read Lie to Me. Words cannot express how grateful to Lee Piper I am for giving me the opportunity to read a advance copy of Lie to Me. Initially, I learned about Lie to Me from social media but before I knew it, authors who I work with were speaking about their anticipation for this upcoming release. Now that I have been able to read her work, I am determined to find the time to read her previously published books because I was so enchanted with Lie to Me.

description

There are countless reasons that an author’s ability to self-publish have changed the game for avid readers. To me the greatest advantage self-publishing presents is in just how many new authors I have found over the last 8 years. Authors whose words grip my heart tightly and with whom I fall in-love with their stories and characters – much like I now love Lee Piper and her stunning abilities! As a blogger and editor, the rewards are two-fold. First, I get to indulge my love of reading and second, I get more chances to step outside the box than I used to when I was just a reader. Not only have I discovered just how varied the talents of a self-published author are from the more traditionally published authors of our past, but I have also experienced unique writing styles and voices that led to me to pursue genres and tropes that I had not in the past. Really, how much more win-win can it get?

description

As my first book by Lee Piper, I went into Lie to Me with a completely open mind. While reading Shiloh and Reid’s story, I got lost in the beauty of a wholly unique romance – a rarity at times when you read a book a day. Lie to Me led me through a variety of emotions as the story unveiled before my eyes and I truly could not put down my kindle. As I mentioned, the plot was unique, and I felt like it was also well-paced. I didn’t grow bored or skip over portions of the book in order to get to the good stuff… I loved how well I understood Shiloh – her happiness, pain, fears and the other complexities about her that Lie to Me explored. She was quick to doll out snarky comments to deflect the other characters in the story from guessing her secrets. But, she was also sweet and incredibly loyal to her family and extended family. Her character really spoke to me as a woman. On the other hand, Reid was the sexy as hell, dirty talking, ‘misunderstood’ asshole - my favorite kind of alpha and romance hero! Regardless of just how much Reid portrayed an asshole, his actions spoke louder than his words – a very good thing since the story is told strictly through Shiloh’s eyes. The chemistry between Shiloh and Reid was H.A.W.T! If you are reading Lie to Me, be prepared to need a cold shower! The banter between them added to their chemistry and Reid instinctively knew when to push Shiloh and when to pull back. His distraction techniques are something I wish my own husband would pick up on for sure! Another source of joy I found in this story was the addition of outstanding supporting characters. Lee Piper wrote a story that exhibited a very realistic comrade amongst the two bands--friendships that held true over the possibility of fame--thus making the story more fulfilling. While they were in competition with one another, they acknowledged repeatedly that they had a solid foundation of friendship.

description

Overall, I loved Lie to Me and can’t wait for more of Shiloh and Reid’s story in future works by Lee Piper. I know that without a doubt I will be social media stalking Lee Piper for more of her work, especially the Raising Stars series! This is a rockstar romance that will leave you in-love with a new author, so I sincerely hope that my review helps future readers in deciding to one-click Lie to Me and get started reading!!!

So often in Rock romance, there is a tendency to make it about cheating and then break-up and then all is forgiven. That isn't this story. Not by a long shot. There is depth here on a different level. Two former lovers competing for one thing. Only this time there is a lot at stake. There is a twist in this book that I didn't see coming. It puts a whole new perspective on following your dreams no matter what. It is also a twist that I have never read before. It posits when would that hard line in the sand be drawn to where someone just leaves it as a dream. If it was me I can guarantee that I wouldn't be able to do it. My stutter would be back in two minutes tops. A stutter that took me YEARS to overcome. Yet, in this case, it made the heroine brave. I wanted to hug her and tell her that she was truly a rockstar.

Shiloh. This sweet feisty girl. A woman afraid to truly live because of guilt that she carries towards Reid. The man who owns the heart that she broke. Reid. This man is mine ladies. Knowing who his muse was made him even more attractive in my book. His selfless attention and trust issues from Shiloh being the one to break his heart made him even more beautiful. Add in his mouth (both literally and figuratively) whether he was talking or something else he had serious game. My Ovaries told me so. So it must be true.

The secondary characters were pivotal in this book, and I hope they all get their chance to tell their story. It helped enrich the story. I am particularly interested in Tobias getting a story because there is a lot there. There is a certain part that broke my heart toward the end of the book. I can already tell he will be a complex story.

This book covers it all. It teaches you the power that finding love is often unexpected and getting a second chance is a gift. It is hot and steamy. There is humor. I love it when an author uses humor and I love it, even more, when they do it in a way where their mind or thoughts is doing the thinking. I laughed out loud several times. All of this combined to make a great book that is fun and refreshing in a genre that normally goes down a different path.

This author is a new to me author and I am very glad I got the chance to read her words. She has a gift when it comes down to her writing style. I know she is on pins or needles waiting to see if her hard work has paid off. For myself, that answer is undoubtedly is a resounding yes. My only complaints with the book were that I wanted there to be more resolution with the fallout from their break-up. I wanted to hear more from Reid about his feelings. Still not enough for me to not enjoy this book. I look forward to more great work from this author in the future. She is on my watch list now. (It's a good thing, I promise. It isn't like a TSA "I am going to grope you" watch list!)

Kudos on a great start to a new series.

Lie to Me is the first installment in Lee Piper's brand-new Rising Star series and the PERFECT introduction into this sure to be extraordinary series! This also happens to be the first book I've read from her, but luckily I have her previous two releases in paperback, so I will certainly be diving into those stories soon enough!

While the cover and blurb is what initially drew me in, it was the author's brilliant writing that captivated me whole body and soul. Lee Piper certainly has a beautiful way with words and readers won't be able to resist Shiloh and Reid's love-hate relationship. Seriously these two filled my heart with so much love and hope that it was nearly impossible to put their story down! Truth be told I stayed up way too late finishing this story because I stupidly started it after midnight, but I am so freaking glad that I did. This story was amazing and I absolutely adored their back-and-forth banter that just added to their off the charts hot and heavy chemistry!

Shiloh Stirling is the lead singer of an up and coming band competing for the title of Rising Star, but she's got a secret that she is keeping from her bandmates. Now Reid Tate might be the drummer in another band competing against them and he might hate her guts, but he's willing to help her out. They were once best friends, but when Shiloh pushed him away they grew distant and hatred replaced friendship...or did it?

This story was filled with angst, love, heartache and a ton of sexy times that will have you swooning from beginning to end! Lie to Me was an incredible story and now I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!

Lee Piper is a new author to me. The first thing that got my attention was the beautiful and unique cover. And after reading the blurb I definitely had to read this book.

This story is about Shiloh, who's attending a band contest with her twin Jasper and her best friend Tobias. This requires a lot of strenght from the young woman, because she's afraid of crowds and every performance on the show is a struggle. The fact, that the love of her life, Reid, whom she left three years ago, also participates in the same contest, is another problem. Since she left him the sexy drummer is very angry at her. But although he's angry he's also the only one who can help her. And he does 😉!

Wow, the connection between Shiloh and Reid is sizzling. Sparks are flying and the whole story is very emotional and very hot. In the beginning I thought they couldn't and shouldn't be together. Reid was hurt deeply by Shiloh and I was afraid they would hurt each other again and again. At first I really didn't want them to be together and I was "Team Tobias", because he would've been the safe decision. But he is not what Shiloh wants. Piper Lee was able to write a story with a beautiful second chance for real love.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this story. I love Shiloh and Reid. Together and individually. Shiloh is funny, self-confident (most of the time) and so strong. Reid is this brooding alpha male, covered in tattoos and a drummer 😍. And he's Shiloh's white knight (or not 😉). Their love for each other is unique, couldn't be destroyed by Shiloh and will survive. I also loved the side characters. Tobias is my man, I'm in love with him, although he's a little bit naive and wants what he already knows he can't have. I hope he gets his own book?! Willow is amazing, she's a good friend and I'm glad her story comes next. Jasper is not my cup of tea but he loves his sister so much and that gets him bonus points.

A great second chance romance, a lot of hot scenes, so much love, adorable characters.
Can't wait for book 2. 😍

Forget the lead singers of bands because the Drummer is where its it at. Lie to me just proves that the drummer is the sexiest one in the band. Boy you can't get any sexier than Reid Tate. He is broody , dominant and will absolutely melt you panties off!! Beware make sure your alone when reading this and definitely not on a plane. Shiloh loved Reid since they were teenagers, they were best friends but she walked away believing it was for the best. But now she has a problem that could destroy her bands future , can Reid help her ? does he have ulterior motives but most of all can Shiloh get a second chance?. This book will have you laughing out loud at Shiloh and Jaspers antics and oh boy Gwendolyn!!! It will have you on the edge of your seat with the drama but most of all you won't be to put it down. Lee writing is exciting, witty and enthralling and I seriously can't wait for the next in the series.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC to read and review. Lee Piper is a new to me author, and I went into this totally blind. This book sucked me in from page one. We follow Shiloh, along with her band, Jasper and Tobias, trying to win a music competition that could make them rock stars. Only Shiloh has a secret, a fear\phobia, that could ruin everything. Reid, a member of a competing band and long time friend, helps her try to overcome her fear, while also trying to get over his own past. A past that Shiloh has a huge part of. Can they both overcome their past, the secrets, the fear? To make it to the top and mend what was broken between them. Lie To Me was funny, with many one liners, as I call them. It was angsty, with tension between main characters rising, sexual and emotional. This book was a terrific read, couldn't put it down. Also not a cliffhanger.

Reading about rock stars is a weakness for me and this book was freaking addicting.

I couldn't get enough of Reid and Shiloh. They sure were a spit fire couple to read about. I loved how they had that love-hate relationship.

This was a very refreshing book especially because the leading character happened to be a female and a strong female at that. But don't get me wrong I usually love my rock stars to be male, but it this was different for me since I've never read a book about the leading lady being a rock star.

Reid and Shiloh have history together and that's what made the story so much more interesting.

I really did enjoy this book immensely and can't wait to continue reading the series on these hot rock stars!

Loved EVERYTHING about this book. This is my first book by Lee Piper & won't be my last.
Shiloh's character was absolutely Great. I loved it when she would spit out word Vomit...lol. Then what she called her Vagina ...lol. Besides those facts Shiloh carries the weight of the world on her. She doesn't want to disappoint anyone and because of that and what happened a few years ago. She goes into panic attacks.
Reid Tate, OMG, cue Swooniness. He was Broody, Possessive, and when he called her Darlin'.... 😍😍😍 cue panties melting. Reid is there for Shiloh and he's noticed why she has panic attacks and comes to conclusion of helping Shiloh even though he is still angry with her. Can I please get his kind of Help...❤❤❤
These two completely stole my heart. Piper you did a Great job and thank you for letting me read your book.
