Following the Civil War, Ten St. John comes home to find his mother dead and his father gone West. He goes after his pa to let him know it’s just the two of them now.
Along the way, he begins hearing about someone other than his father who may be traveling with him. He also begins finding out a lot of new things about his pa.
The question is: Will he find his pa, and will he be who Ten thinks he is?
Mr. Winkle, once again, sets himself apart with this outstanding western adventure masterpiece, as Ten St. John's proves himself to be an all around master of western justice. In his pursuit of his Father, after the Civil War, Ten pulls no punches as he travels throughout the old frontier in search of his Father, finding himself one step behind him, but definitely defends his own honor many times over! Sensational exploits of outstanding accomplishments over and over finds Ten a few steps behind his "phantom Father!"
Never have a hard time awarding five stars to Mr. Winkle's writings, and this fast moving frontier special certainly is deserving these e stars, as Ten St. John openly defies all odds in his extensive search for his Father, who mistakenly assumed both sons were killed in "the war" between the North and South. There are a few suspenseful episodes that consistently enhances the outstanding fast developing encounters, as Ten and crew, struggle with seemingly insurmountable odds, and the outcome is always questionable! Superbly documented storylines and all the characters definitely portrays their assigned tasks in an extraordinarily descriptive manner.? The good guys do not always play above board games with Ten, but he is unique in his decision making and definitely is a seeker of western justice. Definitely recommend this compassionate story to all readers, but especially to you lovers of exceptionally descriptive episodes of realistic old American western folklore adventures, as this has a mixture of friend versus friend, with plenty of good guys versus bad guys, and a few Indian battle in between all other escapades. Try it, as I am sure will love it!!!!
Ten St. John searching for his father, whom he knows as Wes St. John, but as he searches for his Pa he's hearing another name "Noble Parker" and he's starting to wonder if they are the same person. Ten has met a lot of tight situations which might have ended with death. Fighting Apaches, highway men trying to rob him of whatever he's carrying. It's the end of the Civil War and solders mainly those who fought for the Confederacy are trying to get home. Many of those men were not paid by the money poor Confederate Government, so these men stole murdered and became gangs of roaming thugs. A young girl named Melinda was kidnapped from her parents ranch by an ex-Confederate Major who was angry because his boyhood friend would not join up with him to continue fighting the Civil War, so he kidnapped Melinda to hurt her Uncle Ward. Lots of Rebels headed to Mexico to regroup and use Mexico as their headquarters to continue fighting the Union. Bottom line they raped this poor girl as her Uncle watched. Because of this ugly assault dealt to Melinda her Uncle Ward didn't want to return her to parents . The reason he used and so did her so called fiancee they cast her way, stating she would be better off dead. Because no one wanted used goods and Melinda was no longer a "VIRGIN." Melinda knew this and tried to commit suicide by cutting her throat and she stopped taking any type of nourishment. These type morals that society burden headed in women, especially when the onus was perpetrated by worthless men who never had any moral compass exhibited this type of behavior should be castrated..enuch sounds about even. So now Ten is still following the information regarding the direction his father is going. This trip requires Ten to be on his toes constantly because of this $500 dollar bounty placed on his head. Diggity dog there are men looking hard for this Noble Parker. I am waiting with baited breath for the outcome of this reunion of father and son. Also maybe hidden secrets will be revealed to Ten hopefully. Ten is on his way to Las Vegas following another lead about his father. Ride Easy Ten and keep your powder dry, because you know I know they are waiting for you...
This book is one western cliche after another. The protagonist stumbled from one gunfight to another with only the vague sense of a plot. I was bogged down by this book but eventually finished reading it to give it a honest review as I do not review a book unless I completely read it in its entirety. I do not recommend this book but to each their own. Louis L'amour it is not.
This book was absolutely great. Had great characters and action galore.Would highly recommend this book and all others written by this author to everyone that enjoys a great western.
This was a really good story that was full of action and adventure. The story is easy to follow and I hated to put it down, then came the ending a real letdown.
A excellent story about Ten St John, a veteran from the civil war returning home to find his ma dead and his pa gone. Ten takes off trying to find his pa. Many adventures along the way.
I like the novels C. Wayne Winkle writes. His plots always have action, Romance and racial diversity. His women are not just victims they are equal participants.
I really like C Wayne Winkel. And this did moot disappoint. Now I will have to find the next book in the series. Because this is the first in a series.
CWW. has. penned a western adventure novel that introduces the way to become a gun fighter, chaser of outlaws, dodger of Indians, and being stranded alone in the desert by a friend only to be helped by another to locate his father who appears to be two different men. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
