This is a book that was loaned to me by a friend. It is a collection of selected verses from the New Century Version of the Holy Bible for such occasions as what to do when you feel discouraged or afraid, or what the bible has to say about faith, love, or eternal life. It is set up to be easily used, with a table of contents that separates the subjects conveniently and logically. The New Century Version of the bible is actually a revision of the International Children's Bible, and has been marketed under several different names, including "The Everyday Bible" and "The Answer." It is written to be understood by those who have low reading or English skills, which makes it a good version to use with people to whom English is a second language and intellectually challenged individuals. It relies on paraphrase to simplify the original intent of the various verses.
For instance, 1 Corinthians 10:13 reads, "The only temptation that has come to you is that which everyone has. But you can trust God, who will not permit you to be tempted more than you can stand. But when you are tempted, he will also give you a way to escape so that you will be able to stand it." The New International Version (NIV) for the same verse reads, "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." Psalm 18:30 reads, "The ways of God are without fault. The Lord's words are pure. He is a shield to those who trust him." In the NIV it reads, "As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him." Also, the 1991 update of the New Century paraphrased some verses further to make them what is called gender neutral.
While this may constitute a problem for some, I found this little book to be very good and fun to read. It is easy to understand and use, and I would recommend it as a tool for witnessing or teaching new Christians, as it makes the often difficult job of finding bible verses to answer questions that may come up much less of a chore. I thank my friend, whose primary language is Spanish, for sharing this with me. It is refreshing to see that there are so many people who still believe that the Holy Bible is a book that is important enough to be translated into the vernacular of the modern world.

This is a daily read if at all possible. Full of encouragement and enlightenment. An ongoing read emphasizing emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of life that we all can relate to at some point in our lives whether it be in our past, present, or future. My rating of 5 star is simply due to the comfort and joy I derive from its reading. Highly recommended for all. Enjoy and have a blessed day.

Wonderful resource.

This is not meant to be read through, but is rather a pocket sized reference for everyday life. This is great for evangelism. I like it.

This book is a great COMPANION to a regular exegetical study of God's word that employs isagogics and hermeneutics. Knowing the promises is the key to finding the faith-rest life Christ want's every believer to have, but unaccompanied by consistant study people naturally will try to make God's promises fit whatever we want them to fit. The danger there is that God is not a genie meant to bend to our will, and any attempt to make these promises fit into our will will lead to confusion, disenchantment, and a falling away. Once you are ready to commit yourself to understanding God's will for your life, these promises will have amazing power in your life.

This tiny book expands me exponentially :)
I might just have to keep this one in my back pocket at all times, because even when times get rough, a daily reminder of God's unshaken love for us is something we can always trust... and it's the only thing that matters! =)

I absolutely love this book and it has strengthened my faith tremendously. It consists of scriptures relating to God's promises organized on different topics. There is no additional commentary. The organization is great and it's powerful reading.

This book is like a box of ammo to use when Life throws its worst at you. Just picked it up a month ago, and it's already starting to look pretty beat up.
