Princess Alba’s plans to seek justice for the dragons of Mount Fornax turn to disaster when a treasured friend becomes the target of an unfair witch hunt.
With a single dragon and only three days to mount a rescue before a gruesome execution, Alba and her friends must risk their lives to infiltrate the stronghold of the most powerful witch in the Known World.
What a shit start! 1. The bold and brave dragons and riders said nothing when their savior was being jailed?!?! 2. Her unfaithful dragon called her bossy and dismissed her and her plans.... That have not failed any of them yet! 3. Same goes for her "best friend" Who was acting reckless and had NO PLANS!!!! Etc... What a contrived way to set up a plot.... It did not work for me!
Welp. This book was better! More action. Less appearances by nasty people. Although Roseate is coming close to being as hated as Magnar. Still not sure why she helped with the Evolene situation. Definitely not out of kindness! Lol. Anyway, Alba is growing through the series. In power, yes, but in friends, in loyalty to them, as a person herself. Fyrian is less petulant this time around. Spots of it, but less. I’m interested to see if Alba’s mothers appearance continues through the remainder of the series or not. I am looking forward to seeing how she reacts to her daughters full antics.
Once again, this book begins where the previous book ended. Once again, things don't look good for Princess Alba in her disguise as a boy at the Dragon Mage Academy. A whole lot of things happen in this book, including swapping disguises, riding Fyri the green dragon, riding Ice Wolves, and being imprisoned. The witch Evolene comes in for some of this action. I found it slightly confusing, but I ended up liking it and I think you will too.
With the loyalty elixir spell broken, Alba has to find a way of circumventing the damsel denial clause to rid the Academy of King Magnar’s influence. King Magnar and his associates are put on trial for their crimes, but during the trial a new problem arises: Evolene gets arrested for violating her parole conditions and her life is put into immediate danger. With Fyrian recovering from her injuries, Alba with a handful of trusted friends embarks on another dangerous adventure to save her before it’s too late.
On another note, Alba’s romance with Niger progresses, but there are obstacles in their way. And what will happen with King Magnar and the damsel denial clause? Will Alba be free of him or are there surprises in store for their relationship? I really can’t wait to find out!!!
As with all the books in the series, there’s not a dull moment in this one as well!!! Fast-paced and action-packed, the storyline grips you right from the start and leads you on a rollercoaster of an adventure. Cordelia Castel keeps expanding Alba’s world, adding more and more information on the unique universe of the Seven Kingdoms. The characters keep evolving with each page, adding to the richness of the storyline. A highly recommended read for fans of the fantasy genre!!! And if by any chance you haven’t read the previous books, grab them now and get immersed in an extraordinary adventure of magic, dragons and a side of romance!!!
Finally, King Magnar will pay for his sins! But Princess Alba/Albert Buford has a bigger problem. Evolene has been accused of breaking the terms of her parole and sentenced to magical extraction and death! As in the preceding books, the action, characters, and the world they inhabit is excellent!
I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters. I can't wait to see what will happen next for Alba and her friends and what they went through to get her friend Evolene out of prison.
Maybe I'm just getting tired of the series; however, I didn't like this book as much as earlier ones. With only 2 books to go, I will go on and read them with the only question being whether or not I finish them now or read something else for a break.
There was a lot going on again. These people seem to move from disaster to disaster. It's starting to feel a little rushed but is still action-packed fun.
