About the author

Josh McDowell is a bestselling Christian apologist, evangelist, and author of over 150 books, including Evidence That Demands a Verdict and More Than a Carpenter. Once an agnostic, he converted to Christianity while investigating its historical claims. He went on to earn degrees from Wheaton College and Talbot Theological Seminary. For decades, McDowell has been a prominent speaker with Campus Crusade for Christ, addressing issues of faith, character, and youth culture worldwide. His work emphasizes historical and legal evidence for Christianity and tackles challenges posed by skepticism and non-Christian beliefs. He lives in California with his wife, Dottie, and is the father of four children, including fellow apologist Sean McDowell.

Es simplemente genial. Una misma historia vista desde tres ejes: el primero es de las personas que la viven; segundo el de las criaturas del Inframundo; tercero, la mirada bíblica y la aplicaron a la vida cotidiana.
La mezcla entre la historia de los jóvenes con esa parte de lección bíblica, hace que el libro sea más que un simple libro en el estante, si no que se convierta en una pequeña guía de enseñanzas.

Have you ever had negative thoughts that you couldn't shake keeping you down all the while wondering where did those thoughts come from? Well, I think I might know. Let me introduce you to Ratsbane the leader of the demons in the book The Deceivers. Their job is to deceive people so that they never find true happiness and meaning in life. In this novel you will get a glimpse of the invisible spiritual battle between the enemy and the Savior. The book The Deceivers by Josh McDowell and Bob Hostetler is about a girl named Sarah Milford and a guy named Ryan Ortiz. Sarah Milford is a typical girl who just wants to be noticed. As a result of her being adopted by a pastor, she cogitates she must be perfect in every way. However, she feels like she is the exact opposite of perfect - a failure. After a long day of disappointment and rejection, Sarah Milford grudgingly attends her father's youth group retreat. Little does she know the trials await her. However, this regular hike was never supposed to be an obstacle course, or was it? Ryan Ortiz is just another guy who longs to be accepted, but his inferiority leads to detrimental circumstances for his future. Consequently, he flees to a convenient youth group wilderness adventure where he comes face to face - with his destiny. Fate leads them together to erudite and contemplate that worldly promises of fulfillment fail to deliver. What they discover will change the course of their lives.The genre of this book is realistic fiction. This is because the book had events in it that can actually happen and that have happened in the past.
An internal conflict in this book is Sarah's desire to be liked. She tries hard just to impress everyone she knows. However, Sarah seems to never be able to find what she’s for - unconditional love. An external conflict in this novel is that Ryan Ortiz just wants to fit in. Henceforth, he lets two popular guys peer pressure him into robbing a computer store. Having nearly escaped the scene of the the crime he wonders whether he is the subject of manhunt. Not realizing the police are hot trail. I thought this was a phenomenal book. It articulated the emotions throughout the novel very well. I felt as if I couldn't put book down. I really like how the book was relatable to my own personal experiences. I would recommend this book to all middle school kids. I would especially recommend this book to any kid who is searching for the answer to struggles in life. My opinion is that this book is good for both boys and girls. It's a short but deep novel that captures the magnificent story of the true meaning of life.

I was truly surprised by this book. Bob Hostetler could rank right up there with the top contemporary fiction writers for young readers. The plot was taught, surprising, and well-maintained throughout, layered very impressively by an author who obviously knows how to really write. This set up well the additions of Josh McDowell, challenging young people to stand strong in their Christian convictions. This book is highly memorable to me, most likely the best Christian fiction that I have read.
