"Come! See what adventure awaits a curious soul!"

Thank you so much Allen Brown for sending me a copy of Bizarre Events in exchange for an honest review. And honestly, I loved it! Allen Brown started his writing career off with a bang.

I have been devouring short story collections recently and it was so refreshing to see something completely different. The introduction really piqued my interest and I couldn't help but keep reading to see what exactly is going on. The way each story is connected and flow one to the next is something I haven't seen before. It's pretty ingenious. Then the little interludes take you out of the bizarreness of each individual story but don't let you relax.

The storytelling was great! Each story was completely different, completely unique, and completely bizarre. These are what all short stories should strive to be. They were succinct, interesting, and the ending wrapped up the story nicely but always left me wanting more; not in a way that was dissatisfying, but a way that made me want to see what else Brown had in his arsenal and therefore moved right along to the next story.

I don't think there was a story I didn't like in this collection but there were a few stand outs to me, and they all brought something very different to the table. The opening story, Destination: Mars was creepy and fun and really set the vibe for the whole collection. Nightcaps was so melancholy and bittersweet, it really tugged at my heart. Monsters in the Closet was an amazing mix of monster horror and the horrors of real life. Rosemary's Miscarriage was great storytelling with a very sinister twist. The final story, Tribal Obligations, really had me thinking long after I closed the book. It let my imagination run a bit which I love and was a great way to end the collection.

The little epilogue made the book feel so personal. Brown really reached out to his audience and I thought it was so sweet. I'll be (im)patiently waiting to see what's next from Allen Brown. He's a must watch author for me.

This collection of short stories was indeed bizarre. I just can't think of a better way to describe the stories. From "Static", which made me feel like I was reading an episode of Netflix's Black Mirror, to Itches, which will haunt me forever, the stories were a variety between creepy, peculiar, and just downright twisted. I enjoyed all of the stories, and I enjoyed the way they were all tied together. I always enjoy a short story collection that has an overlying story explaining why each story is being told. I think it adds an extra dimension to the whole experience.

I could not put this book down. Literally, reading cover to cover on the first day. I couldn't contain my excitement. I adore short stories and considering that these happened to be a fair mix between Twilight Zone and Black Mirror I was instantly hooked. Allen does a superb job of pulling you into each small "visual painting" and will have you "itching" for more. Heartache, petrifying fear, apprehensiveness, dread and suspicion are just a few of the emotions that I had leaving the Bizarre world of Mr. Brown's nefarious mind.
