First, I want to thank Susan Lynn Solomon for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
Abigail’s Window by Susan Lynn Solomon is one of the very few books I have agreed to read in this genre. It is not my favorite genre. However, Susan’s books are unlike the rest of others that write paranormal books.
You may ask why she writes unlike others in her genre. For one she puts humor into her characters and her storyline. I am from Buffalo, NY and can understand the horrid winters we have. She made some jokes about the bad winters in the winters here and it cracked me up! Another thing I love about her writing is that she writes about where she lives in Niagara County, NY. If you live here you would recognize the places when you read the story. If you ever come to visit you would recognize the places that are mentioned. When I read her writing it puts a smile on my face that she writes about where she lives. This just shows how proud of where she lives and wants to incorporate it into her writing.
She is also extremely passionate about ghosts and all things paranormal. You can tell by the storyline and the characters she writes about.
This a is a shorter book with an interesting story.
I actually liked the story behind the book Anna Karenina and its significance to the story. Also, the story of Richard and how Gwen’s affair started with him.
I usually prefer mysteries, but once I started this story, it was difficult to put down. Both characters, Abbie the ghost and Katy the real person, have pasts and futures that intertwine. Will stubborn Katy learn from Abbie's mistakes? A haunting story and enjoyable read.
Dragged to a quaint inn on Niagara-on-the-Lake by her friends, Kaitlyn Novacs discovers she can't escape a haunting. Instead enjoying a fun girlfriends weekend, she meets and is captivated by the spirit of Abigail Bender. But as Abigail shows Katy her life and the romance she had with her true love, Katy slips further and further into an abyss as she tries to hide from her own feelings. Will Katy comes to grips with her own past and open herself up to love? Or will death claim her?
ABIGAIL'S WINDOW is at once a charming historical love story and a cautionary tale. Kaitlyn has turned her back on love due to an incident in her past hinted at and finally revealed. Love is equated to life here and Katy's inability, or unwillingness, to love just may cost her her life. While I don't necessarily subscribe to that belief, it makes sense for Kaitlyn and her friends.
FTC Disclosure – The publisher sent me a copy of this book in the hopes I would review it. I enjoyed the ghostly aspect of the story and came to like wise cracking Kate, although I was put off by her friends and their attitudes at the start of the story. For me the most engaging part of the novel was the historical details surrounding the romance between Abigail and Will. Partially because I live in Western New York, I loved reading about the Underground Railroad and the stops which are quite familiar to me. I also found the Civil War sections compelling, although the amount of detail wasn't truly necessary to further the plot.
ABIGAIL'S WINDOW is a captivating story of love and the challenge of both giving and receiving it.

Susan Lynn Solomon’s Abigail’s Window is a haunting and suspenseful tale of love and loss. Abigail Bender’s and Kaitlyn Novacs’ stories are told in parallel in a remote Canadian B&B over a stormy weekend. The author turned up the chills and creepy vibe with the setting!!
Abigail’s apparition is seen and heard by only a few. Kaitlyn is one of those few. Kaitlyn is a smart and successful lawyer. She has a keen mind, but lately life has been taking a toll on her. I found Kaitlyn’s girlfriends’ insensitive teasing of her hearing noises really offensive, but it did set up Kaitlyn for time by herself to encounter the ghost of Abigail Bender. The tension and foreboding mount as hints are dropped about Kaitlyn’s struggle with a traumatic past. Does Kaitlyn really encounter the ghost of Abigail Bender, or is her mind playing tricks on her?
Ms. Solomon’s attention to detail paints a vivid picture of the Niagara-on-the-Lake area as well as life in the late 1800s. The well-researched history truly added depth to the story. I loved the references to the classics such as Shakespeare and Tolstoy. The complexity of Kaitlyn’s life as well as the intriguing epilogue made for a rich story.
A ghostly story for Samhain, Halloween or anytime of the year!

“So they went, and I stayed—just me and Anna Karenina in a house that didn’t want me to leave...The room they called Abigail’s felt like a sanctuary. In this room a gentle hand had stroked my wrist and hair. Outside this room rough hands had tried to kill me.”
Kaitlyn is healing from a breakdown after the loss of a loved one. Placed into Abigail’s room, a woman who lived during the Civil War, Abigail shows Kaitlyn her story of what it meant to have a true love and a great loss during an escape on the Underground Railroad. As Kaitlyn listens, she slips further into her depression, thinking such a love may never be hers. As both stories unfold and then come together, the reader is turning pages wondering if Kaitlyn will learn from Abigail and seek out true love. Will Abigail’s haunting have meaning to a world long gone? Or, is love timeless? Intrigue, history, haunting pasts and romance pull you into what could be easily labeled a literary fiction novel as well as paranormal suspense. Susan Lynn Solomon deserved her First Place Award for Paranormal Romance.
I normally ready fantasy romance, but once I started this story, it began to grow on me, and I was not wanting to put it down.
Kaitlyn and her friends were just going to have a girl’s weekend, just to get away and unwind, but things quickly changed when they arrived at the Bed and Breakfast where they were to stay. Kaitlyn’s uneasy feeling starts from the moment she steps out of their rental car, when she notices a window of the second floor, there is a woman, peering at her through a pulled back lace curtain. All her years of law school could not prepare her for what was going to take place at this retreat with her friends.
Although Abigail and Kaitlyn both have pasts that intertwine, it wasn’t until her mother-in-law noticed the photograph sitting on the table that Kaitlyn knew just how their lives were connected.
Does Kaitlyn really encounter the ghost of Abigail Bender, or is her mind playing tricks on her? You will have to read the book for yourself and find out.
Kaitlyn is running from love and the ghosts of her past. On a girls weekend in Niagara on the lake, she comes face to face with a real ghost haunting the B & B who shows Kaitlyn, through her own story what she must do to save herself. Through Abigail’s window, the story is told. This novel was quite the departure from other stories I have read by this author. If you love ghost stories, paranormal and a bit of romance thrown in, Abigail’s Window should be added to your TBR pile. It was definitely what I call a page turner and I had a hard time putting it down at the end of the day. I give kudos to the author for such great storytelling. I fell in love with Will and Abigail. I give this story 5 benevolent spirits for such poignant reading.
I loved Abigails Window! This was the kind of book you look forward to reading . My interest was ready and I knew Susan Solomon would not let me down ! I couldn't put it down the story was so good and through out it kept me saying just one more page , I believe anyone could read this book and not be afraid of improper words or inappropriate sex . Just a great story to read and enjoy!!!
True love, trials and redemption: This is a beautiful story about a woman's journey back to wholeness with the aid of ghost who also seeks healing. It kept me reading late at night and brought a few tears.
