I had the pleasure of meeting Gary Senise during a deployment before I retired from the US Air Force. I have always loved his acting career, but until our meeting never new just how many other amazing accomplishments and extremely worthy organizations he has stepped up to in order to help so many of our brothers and sisters in arms and first responders. He is an inspiration to all of a person coming from very little to building a beautiful life with family, friends, and above all compassion to help others in need!
This is a book worth sharing often with others....

I love Gary Senise and am inspired by his passion for supporting our military, first responders, veterans and families of these. Just am usually a bit disappointed by autobiographies by celebrities. Their gifts don’t usually include writing.

I am amazed and disappointed that this fantastic novel has not received more media attention. This book was so inspiring and one of the great reads available. Extremely entertaining – sometimes I laughed, a few times I choked up and the eyes watered. I do not lightly support any organization without fully checking them out and this book inspired me to do just that with the Sinise Foundation – found it to be one of the best around. Mr. Sinise needs to be applauded for his work with our veterans, first responders and their families.

I enjoy Gary Senise as an actor. As I listened to this book, I was in awe of how he helps those who need help and don't ask for anything in return. Most actors are stuck up and seeing how Gary started his life and the way it's going now is amazing. Gary talked about his life growing up and his life now. How he started a company and continues with it. How he is known to troops as Lt. Dan. I found it interesting how he chose his movies he stared in. I also feel he's gone through so much with his wife and her drinking problem and his daughter and her health problems to raising money for veterans whom are triple amputees and need special homes.

Gary Senise is a true icon to look up to. He has done amazing work with our veterans and have gotten to do a lot over seas. Gary should be a model for people to see how they can help change someone's life with just a smile, hug, song, your time.

I listened to the audiobook version of Grateful American, and I'm happy I did. It is definitely a very comprehensive account of Mr. Senise's life. And although I absolutely loved learning about his early delinquent years in high school, and his successes in film, he did spend a good amount of time on the goings on in Steppenwolf, and those parts dragged on for me.

A good half of the book is dedicated to his own life story before going into the Gary Senise Foundation. Again, the stories he shares about meeting the troops overseas and helping them when they return home are inspirational. However, some of his ponderings ramble on and I'd find myself disconnecting from the book.

All in all, it is entertaining and you will learn a lot about Senise's family as well as about his foundation. But be prepared to wander along with him as he makes a couple detours.

Gary Sinise is an American Hero. Tremendous support of our US Military. He gives everything of himself to support our troops. His life as an actor and artis is amazing. Gary is authentic, has purpose and a conviction showing his true nature. He has built a foundation to support our severely wounded veterans. This book reveals Gary’s personal path discovering his life purpose. Outstanding read!

This book is proof that hard work and humble beginnings can make people great. Mr. Senise is a truly great American and as a retired Navy veteran I can really appreciate what he, his family and his foundation has done for our country and those who stand in protection of it and all it stands for. Well worth the time to read.

I love Gary Sinise and all that he does for American Veterans so I had to read his book. The book is a little long, lots and lots of history He goes through his whole life's story. I was happy that I listened to the book on Audible because some moment were dry. That said, there were many tearful moments and a few that made me smile. 100% worth the read/listen.

What a selfless and humble individual! Gary has given so much to veterans and first responders and is such a wonderful person, and being a vet myself I enjoyed reading all that he’s given. While the book is a bit slow at times, the overall theme is one of gratefulness and I enjoyed hearing his path from self to selfless.

Outstanding.
I did not know much about Gary Senise or his work before this, but I found myself very moved repeatedly by the various stories of our service members and the work of Gary and his foundation.

Outstanding! Gary Senise is a man with a generous heart and spirit. As a wife of a retired Air Force Msgt. and proud mother of a marine, an airman and a navy sailor I feel so blessed that there are people like him that support our military.

I loved this book by Gary Sinise. The way he weaves the story of his childhood, acting career, family life and giving back to our military veterans and their families plus our first responders shows why he is an American treasure. He is very inspiring.

This book gives me hope that not every person in the world takes service members sacrifice for granted. Gary is a great example of a person putting his money and time where his mouth is.

Very good book. I thought it started a little slow because there was so many details. I had no idea how involved he was in charity work for the things he cares about. He is an amazing man.

The first part of the book was fascinating but I got bored listening to his journey to Hollywood.
Still love the guy!
