How can a chilly little penguin get warm? Themes of perseverance, problem-solving and friendship give caregivers and children lots to talk about, while the penguin’s amusing antics and the story’s sweet ending make for a fun storytime for toddlers.
I’m not being smutty, but I can’t be the only person who noticed that after the book says “share a hug with your friend to stay warm” there are baby penguins on the next page.
Even penguins get cold despite their love for chilly weather. In this adorable board book, originally published in French, a penguin takes all sorts of steps to keep himself warm. Not only does he knit a scarf, build a fire, skate on the ice with no success, leaving readers to wonder how he will ever get warm, but he eventually realizes that his best solution might be to hug a friend. That's a great solution, especially if he has more than one friend to hug. This is a good little book to share with youngsters as temperatures start to dip with fall and winter on their way.
As the title suggests, the penguin is chilly and goes through a list of things to get warm such as exercise and knitting a scarf. The only thing that really helps, though, is a warm hug.
