It was a warm, slightly breezy day on Florida's east coast as the vernal equinox marked the beginning of spring. Suddenly, there was a thunderous crash, a blinding light, and a vortex swirled in the blue Atlantic. The invading alien army arrived. Our world surrendered but The Resistance made a stand. This fresh, unique science fiction thriller is loosely based on the locust descent in Revelation chapter 9 coupled with the Cherokee Rattlesnake Prophecy events predicted for the end times. It sets a new standard for the genre.
This book is more like television / movie science fiction than traditional technology fueled than science fiction literary books. It’s not Heinlein, Asimov, or Clark. But, it has an entertaining story line with a few twists and turns.
DM Barrett does a very good job infusing amateur radio and shortwave into the narrative. Using the locust invasion foretold in Revelation Chapter 9 as a model for an alien invasion was fresh and entertaining,
This will be the first Christian science fiction book I've read. It follows the "suspend disbelief factor" of secular science fiction but with a twist on the Book of Revelation. One of things I've noticed with EQUINOX is where the author focuses on the region or locale that he is familiar with. This parallels with the collection of books written by B.B. Teeter who wrote crime thrillers focusing on the southern California region. D.M. Barrett uses the southeastern United States. I won't spoil this book for you but I enjoyed the allusions of the Civil War, amateur radio, history, and the Holy Scriptures.
Equinox is a fresh look at the alien invasion theme. DM Barrett relies on Revelation Chapter 9 and the Cherokee Rattlesnake prophecy to spin a very interesting tale around an interpretation of the two. It is interesting and entertaining. I read it twice.
An interesting novel with an alien invasion and the USA’s response to it. Multiple diverse characters. I would recommend it to anyone who likes ham radio and/or sci-fi.
