Victoria Paige writes smart, edgy, seductive romance.
Her heroes are badass alpha males and her smart, strong-willed heroines can hold their own against a bossy hero. Her books are sexually explicit and may contain dark themes, morally ambiguous choices, and disturbing situations as she injects realism into her stories and gives them her own twist.
Victoria lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband and playful German Shepherd Dog, Loki.
Victoria Paige is a bloody legend when it comes to writing fast-paced, exciting and spine-tingling romance. I spend most of my time convinced that Ms Paige is a CIA agent who likes to write romance in her spare time. She always manages to drag me into a world where there are guns blazing, and I must read each page quickly to work out who are my enemies or allies.
The Princess and the Mercenary was BLOODY AWESOME!!!
I loved the characters, was completely absorbed in the storyline and thought the love story was very sexy, at times funny and always full of heart.
I’ve never really known much about aid missions to war-torn countries. In The Princess and the Mercenary we get to see the highs and lows of what aid workers deal with daily. The preparations are filled with red tape and finding donors is always a challenge. Then, you head to these locations and if the dodgy water doesn’t kill you, the men walking around with rifles could. It’s unsafe, at times lonely and heartbreaking. Not every trip is a success and sometimes the problems are only there because of the greed and power-hungry men in control. Why give the innocent and suffering more, because if they’re happy and content, it could take away their fear and obedience.
Yara is the daughter of a Rockstar and a former model. Her family has always tried to use their popularity for a good cause to help people in need. Yara is the pretty face of their foundation. She helps get the donations in and steps into the missions for a short time to promote the cause. In this case, once there, things go a wee bit off kilter when politics and alliances between governments put the peace talks on hold. Now, Yara is in danger, and the man protecting her turns out to be one of the ones who put her in danger.
Kade Spear works for his government. The only problem is, his government doesn’t seem to be working with or for the right people or for the right reasons. The mission he was sent over for seems to be hitting roadblocks of the Rebel, Al Qaeda…baddies kind. In all this political nightmare, there’s a beautiful little Tinker Bell who is slowly cracking the shell around his heart. He will do ANYTHING to protect her, even go against what his CIA handler tells him to do.
Honestly, I think this was Victoria Paige’s best work. I couldn’t stop reading and every time I had to, I was desperate to get back. It’s obvious this author does a lot of research because she’s completely convinced me that she’s travelled the world on aid missions and was writing from experience. It’s the little details that she manages to seamlessly add into her stories that I enjoy. What people eat, where and how they act is just part of the story. Not added to teach a lesson, just to set the scene and make it easier for me to see.
The Princess and the Mercenary was very entertaining. I laughed at Yara’s snarky attitude, sniffled reading about Kade’s horrible past and sighed as he shared his developing feelings for Yara. It was sexy too. Nothing wrong with a wee bit of wall action to get the heart pumping. 😉
If you’re looking for a story to get your mind whirling, heart pumping and spine-tingling, I highly recommend giving The Princess and the Mercenary a try.

I read suspense novels even before I read romance. I love when a book has the best of both worlds. I'm so happy that Ms Paige has released another nail biter. I was concerned about the location: Yemen. I've known for years and years that this country is not open to Westerners. Not just their government, but many groups of people in this country do not want outsiders-even when bringing humanitarian add- ie food and fresh water. This is a real country. I felt like I was reading about current events. I instantly got involved. The heroine, Yara, has so much compassion and strength. I admired her determination to help the hungry and ignored people while governments and rebels battle it out. Who's the bad guy? Who's the good guy? It kept changing. Who could Yara trust? This is 3rd person POV, but it really is Yara's story. Kade, hmm Is he on Yara's side? His own side? Yara and Kade have sparks the first time they meet. He has the wrong impression of Yara. He has many wrong assumptions. They have instant attraction too. They both have enormous jobs to do. I love the local color. So vivid. This was a page turner for me. A cliche that fits. I had to know what would happen next. Yara and Kade are really hot together. Can Yara trust Kade? Can he trust her? What are their true motives? Who could they really trust? Ms Paige is very brave for taking on this story in this part of the world. This is definitely one of my favorites of hers. I received an advanced copy, but this is available on Kindle Unlimited -out now. *I have a PS.... wow that is some cover!
I always look forward to a romantic suspense story by Victoria Paige. I enjoyed this action-packed story and the main couple’s chemistry. I was pleasantly surprised by the setting in Yemen where politics and humanitarian efforts are constantly in turmoil. Not only did I get a romantic suspense, but some informative insight into the different sides involved in the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Ms. Paige pays close attention to the story details from her research on the settings, native people, aid missions, terrorism, and government institutions. This heightened an exciting romance and gave me food for thought about the innocents in other countries who are caught up in numerous power struggles.
I liked the premise of these two very different antagonists having huge sparks of attraction despite themselves. They’ve made stereotypical assumptions about one another. Yara is a famous, but seemingly privileged Iranian American model who is a figurehead for her family’s Aid Foundation. Kade is an American private military contractor who antagonizes Yara with his macho arrogance and grumpy demeanor while trying to protect her from danger while on an aid mission. Their physical chemistry kept the animosity from going on too long or too far and caused them to look closer at the person on the inside instead of their preconceived notions. There were some humorous moments when they each try to get the better of the other or find themselves constantly being interrupted during attempts to become intimate.
I loved the heroine Yara. She is a mixture of bravery, idealism, feminism, sexiness and brashness. She recognizes her weaknesses and knows her limits. She owns her sexuality and demands what she wants. I also like that neither of the leads immediately fall in love. It takes a while for them to express their feelings and even longer to remove all doubts. Given their setting and the constant dangerous situations, it makes good sense to take it slow during the highly intense mission.
There were so many angles to consider for every major and minor protagonist. Where did each person’s loyalty ultimately lie? Who are the real bad guys? Kade is a tough alpha guy, fierce protector, and sexy lover. He likes Yara’s independent spirit despite how difficult it makes a job that has so many possible repercussions. Kade has a vulnerable side due to some harsh life experiences that cause him to be closed off to any serious relationships. He’s secretly working for the U. S. government to neutralize a terrorist target while using the security job as a cover. He soon realizes that protecting Yara is becoming his highest priority despite any official assignment. He must proceed cautiously and improvise often in order to placate all sides. Even though Kade has ulterior motives on this mission, this made him a more diverse character and increases the plot’s intrigue.
I was totally invested in the story the whole time. I was not sure what the final outcome for some possible villain suspects would be. The author did a good job tying up the multi-layered plots. I really liked that Kade goes after what he really wants in the end. As the story progressed, both Yara and Kade changed their personal and professional goals for the better. It was very satisfying to watch the lead characters mature and become better together. I can always count on Ms. Paige to add a nice epilogue about the characters' future. I highly recommend this romantic adventure. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This is the first book in the Fractured Heroes series that can be read as a stand-alone.
Working for her father’s Earth Rescue & Aid Foundation, Yara Emerson, daughter of an American rock star and an Iranian/American supermodel, is set to go on a humanitarian mission into Yemen, embarking the instant the borders are opened to bring much-needed relief to people in a war-torn country rife with political unrest as peace talks commence. Due to the possibility of danger she’s accompanied by private military contractors which in Yara’s book means hired mercenaries. The head mercenary assigned to her personal detail is a grumpy, arrogant man who pushes her anger and feminine buttons, their attraction is incendiary and she plans to ignore it because she doesn’t like the man even as she has to depend on him for safety, the one thing she trusts him to do is to keep her safe until the tables are turned.
Unbeknownst to the people who hired his company, Kade Spear, former Green Beret turned mercenary, has a different agenda. He’s been hired to protect a rock star’s daughter, foundation aid workers and to ensure that humanitarian supplies reach their destination; that is the front for the real mission, the CIA has enlisted his team’s assistance to go after a high-value terrorist target in Yemen. The plan appeared straightforward but as the political climate changed the mission is altered and the rock star’s daughter becomes the center of unwanted attention by dangerous forces. The sexy woman drives him nuts but the attraction he feels is undeniable and there’s more to her than just being a pampered princess. Will he be able to keep her safe and complete the mission?
There’s a lot of political maneuvering described, the backdrop to the situation the protagonists found themselves in was complicated, the reason for the heightened sense of danger and anxiety for personal survival, but it’s the often times explosive relationship, the budding romance between the two that was the center of the story. Two individuals from different worlds, opposites that attracted, were enemies that became lovers who desired more than perhaps possible for the situations they were in and the inevitable fallout from lies that necessitated to be told.
The banter between the couple was delightfully amusing, she’s not a wallflower, she’s intelligent, sassy, and doesn’t always listen which frustrated the hero but he promised to protect her and he will no matter what the cost is to himself, he has a code of honor for the mercenary he became.
This was an enjoyable read, a book with an interesting storyline, likable and layered characters, action and suspense with numerous twists thrown in. It was a story with many moving parts that didn’t always favor the protagonists who got to know each other under primitive conditions, how a person will react under duress is rarely known until the moment is upon them. The heroine turned out to be more than the hero expected considering her background, she kept her head in intense situations, compensated when civilization was ripped away, when what she took for granted was gone, she’s someone this grumpy soldier could respect.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author.
Ok, so I was dying to get my hands on this book and it totally lived up to my expectations and then some!
Yara and Kade, holy hell, these two were HAWT!!!!! The storyline was great and flowed seamlessly throughout. The writing was exceptional and kept me glued from start until finish and if it wasn't for "life" getting in the way, lol, I could have easily read this book from start to finish if it weren't for my daily tasks needing to get done, hehehe:)
The chemistry between these two was spot on and the intensity of was off the charts. I never ever glossed over their sex scenes, I mean I never wanted to lol.....This author created a great storyline filled with a whole lot of action and suspense and yet it never overshadowed my beloved couple:)
The Princess and the Mercenary by Victoria Paige was an AMAZING read. I absolutely love a good protector to lovers romance as well as an enemies to lovers one and this one is both situations rolled into one. With such a unique story line this book had me hooked and on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
I absolutely loved Yara and Kade and thought they had amazing chemistry. The situations that they found themselves in had my on the edge of my seat wondering how they were going to survive and every time I thought I had things figured out a new twist would be thrown in. There were also times I was questioning who was on whose side and trying to guess who might be behind everything going on. Believe me, this book really keeps you guessing!
This is definitely a must read book. There is drama, suspense, danger and some very hot steamy moments as well. Everything you need in an amazing story. By Alisa
This was recommended by an author friend of mine, and I’m so thankful I read it instead of just adding it to my TBR list.
This is an incredibly well written story that is non-stop action, suspenseful, steamy and romantic and at times had me nearly breathless at the pace of the story! I loved the dual POV because it really added to the depth of what was going on and kept me engaged in the intricate parts of the storyline - there is a lot of threads to the overall story that the author pulled together for one heck of a ride for the last 25% of this book.
I will be adding this series and author to my list to check back for more books to read!
I love Victoria Paige's heroes. Kade is one of the best she's ever written and it's all because he's not always the superhero. He fails and makes mistakes. But he never quits and always admits it when he's f*cked up. Even better, he doesn't turn away from the h, Yara, once he made up his mind to be with her. I liked how we saw a lot of action but it was surrounding them together and not much apart. If you like romantic suspense, you should definitely get this one.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "THE PRINCESS AND THE MERCENARY" WOW!!!!!! This story grabs you right from the start it's full of danger, intrigue, suspense, angst, secrets, lies, humor, passion, conspiracy, terrorists, assassinations, twist that jeep you reading til the very end. Yara Emerson is the daughter of a famous rock star Sullivan's Creed and she was a former model with the help of her dad Sully and his BF and CEO of ERAF there humanitarians trying to help the less fortunate in Yemen and Taiz. Yara hires a security team to protect them when they leave the country to provide aid to the people but Kade Spears head of SSRR along with his partner Max aren't to happy to hear they have to protect the princess on this journey. Yara and Kade hate each other on site she thinks he's a rude, arrogant, a**hole, and a big brute he thinks she's a princess that doesn't know what she's in for but he ends up signing the contract because he's using her as his cover. There is so much that goes down in this excellent amazing well written storyline it's mindblowing and the characters are very well developed it's a must have book you don't want to miss.
This is a new to me author and I will definitely be reading more from her! The book is fast-paced and action-packed. This book had me captivated from start to finish, I just couldn’t put it down. Yara and Kade have this undeniable chemistry but they hated each other on sight. The situations they found themselves in were unbelievable. I didn’t think they would survive but thankfully they always managed. With all of the twists and turns this book had me guessing up to the end. Just when I thought I figured it out... BAM, plot twist. I highly recommend this book!!
Oh my gosh this author never disappoints! I loved it! This novel grabbed me and kept me on the edge of my seat from the very first page to the very last. So good! I loved Yara and Kade. The chemistry was so hot. This novel kept me guessing. I loved the dialogue. I love them a novel can keep me guess and at the end leaves me with a smile on my face and happy that I had the chance to read it. This novel checked all of my boxes. LOVED IT! I love this author's novels.
I received this book as part of an ARC review. It is action packed with a side of romance. The book contains humanitarian cause, intrigue, betrayal, danger and romance. What starts as basic delivery of aid to a war torn country leads to so much more as Yara and Kade enter the country and must face the egotistic General Boustari's plotting. To allow the aid mission forward, Kade's CIA handler steps in taking over protection of the aid workers. Soon everything blows up, sometimes literarily, as Kade comes to get Yara out safely. Kade doesn't want to trust her safety to anyone else as she has gotten under his skin, the attraction is mutual. As they try to make for safety, they meet Abdul who lost his family except for his daughter who was taken by the Al Qaeda and Farideh and her niece and nephew, Laila and Iddy. Kade had refused to carry out the secret mission to assassinate Nasir who was the head of the rebel forces. Kade and Yara are separated when captured by General Boustari. Kade is forced to go on a suicide mission to kill Nasir while the CIA and Boustari have other plans for Yara. Kade not believing the assurances that Yara will be safe makes a deal with Tariq and Nasir instead. Tariq takes over as leader as he is more popular and wants to help the people. Kade and Tariq go to the rescue of Yara. Meanwhile Yara is forced to agree to be a bargaining chip in their plans after being told Kade is dead and her parents are threatened. Boustari betrays Stryker aka Garrison and takes both Garrison and Yara and hands them over to the Al Qaeda. Jamal, the Al Queda commander, plans to use Yara for a media coup and ransom and to behead Garrison. He is stopped and captured when Kade and his soldiers rescue Yara and Garrison. While Kade and his soldiers are facing possible court martial, Yara returns home. After Kade and the others are freed and he returns to USA to be with Yara, Yara learns the truth of Jeff's, her honorary uncle, betrayal and is almost killed. There are two themes running through the book. One is Elliot Denton who was writing articles about aid being misused and human rights. Denton had discovered Jeff's activities and was trying to warn Yara throughout the book. Basen on Denton's words on human rights, Yariq's determination to help his people and Massoud's aid, Yemen finally had a viable source of clean water which helped relieve a lot of the issues that led to needing aid. The other theme was Yara's Mamani's necklace. She was told it would bring her true love but as Kade pointed out, it did much more. The mission of aid to Yemen was successful, Abdul got his daughter back, Farideh got custody of her niece and nephew and Kade and Yara got true love. The linking fact is all parties involved at some point had possession of the pendant. I really enjoyed this book.
I really enjoyed this book, good storyline with characters that are relatable and enjoyable, interesting to read and meet some characters from Rogue Protectors
The ARC of this book was in return for an honest review. This is the first book I have read by this author, but it will definitely not be the last. It was such a great story and felt very well researched with a good addition of interesting characters. The book takes place in Yemen and focuses on the international aid in the region. It asks some very valid questions about how aid is given and what it really does for the communities it is there to help. The book opens as Zara, daughter of rock legend and head of an international aid foundation, is set to go to Yemen and meets her security team headed by Kade. They start off not liking each other, but that is mainly due to preconceived notices of who each other is. From the beginning there is an attraction, but neither want to succumb to it as it might interfere with their work. Due to the conflict in Yemen, there are a lot of characters brought into the story and the reader must try to determine who to trust. Overall, it was an excellent book, that was not only a romantic suspense story, but had a great deal of military and international intrigue that added to the plot. It kept the reader guessing how the main characters were going to end up but also how the overall situation would be resolved. Not knowing too much about the conflict in Yemen, I could not say how true the facts were, but it felt very well researched and made me interested to learn more. It was so much more than your typical romantic suspense book, that I highly recommend it even for those that don’t care for that genre.
I’ve never read a book by Victoria Paige but I plan to remedy that soon enough. The Princess and Mercenary hit off all the check marks for a good fast-paced romantic suspense.
Yara’s family has hired Kade to protect her as she is abroad being the perfect poster-woman for their charitable organization. She is privileged and come from money but her heart is in the right place. From the start Kade and Yara are at odds fighting their attraction. Trust, they give in as they fight their attractions. Kade is hot and I love the steam factor in this one.
There are some twists that I didn’t see coming. I never trusted anyone except Kade and his boys. Honestly, it was touch and go so many times throughout the story. The author really delve into research for this one. From page one, I felt like she gave a lot of background information Yara’s charity and the conflicts brewing in the Middle East especially in Yemen. The plot worked smoothly throughout the story.
Kade and his Tink stole the show for me and I was so pleased by the end. I can’t wait to continue with this series.
ARC provided to me in exchange for an honest review.
Why is 5 stars all that we can give? This story deserves about 10. Victoria fully commits to her writing, and you can tell because of the accuracy of the situations that occur in the book. Don't worry, this review is spoiler free. I never ruin a story for anyone.
Let's start with the feels! I had ALL the feels, laughter, hold my breath anxiety, heat, hurting heart, but most importantly that feeling at the end when everything is just as perfect as can be.
This was a book that was read beginning to end in one sitting. Warning : you will be on the edge of your seat a lot, try not to fall off. Lol. Also there is a potential for kindles to catch fire because of the holy hotness in this book and the speed at which you turn the pages. I will say no more. JUST BUY THE BOOK! I PROMISE YOU WILL LOVE IT!
I am clearly in the minority here, but this was just way too complicated. I spent most of my time trying to keep up with all the characters, the groups, the changing loyalties, and everything that was going on. It works as a thriller with romantic elements, but the romance was sadly lacking for me. I prefer the relationship to be front and centre and everything else happening around that element. It was also for my mind too long - it needed to be tightened up in certain areas. I don't know why they spent the 2 weeks apart right at the end when Kade returned to the States. It didn't move the plot along, there seemed to be no reason for it, except to create tension and seperate them - and they already had plenty of that throughout the book. All it added was another 50 pages.
Yara Emerson is the daughter of an American rock star who embarks on a humanitarian mission to Yemen. Kade Spear is the mercenary former Green Beret hired to protect Yara from danger whose real mission is to go after a terrorist in the war-torn country. Opposites attract when Yara and Kade fall for each other but will he be able to protect from danger. I really enjoyed reading this interesting romantic military story.
This book is amazing!! Very good written. It’s my first book by Victoria Paige and now I want to read all her books. Love the main characters. It was hate at first sight for both of them but sparks also flew. So much suspense and angst and the story is amazing!! It had me hooked from the first chapter till the epilogue. Couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend lovers of suspense romance and military or security romance with an protective Alpha male, to read this book.
The chemistry between lead characters Kade Spear and Yara Sullivan nearly leaps off the page from the very beginning of this book! Insta-hate turns into something much more volatile here. Betrayals and misunderstandings abound, but they never overshadow the main crux of the storyline - terrorism, humanitarian aid, and high emotions.
What can I say other than this was a great book!! You get so many great aspects to what makes a book worth reading. Love, hate, intrigue, mystery, twists, turns, betrayal and action are all the things you need to keep you interested from the first page to the last. This is the first book in a new series and I can't wait to see what the future books bring!!
I had wait till I was done with my finals before I could read this and started it as soon it was possible. The Princess and the Mercenary was freaking amazing. The characters were amazing and the romance between Yara and Kade was sexy and pretty hilarious at times. I can't wait for more in this series. Thanks Vee for the ARC.
