This is just cute as hell.
I don't know if that's the sort of thing that will sell you on a comic or not, but I think that really is its biggest selling point.
Basically, this is what Batman and Superman would have been like if they had been introduced to each other as children.
And it is adorable.
I love the relationship between Jon and his parents. It's such an incredibly loving environment, but the Kents also have rules and they expect Jon to follow them. However, they also realize that rolling him in bubble wrap and pretending he's a normal kid isn't the answer, either. They give him enough freedom to be himself and (literally) learn to fly, but there's a lot of guidance behind the freedom.
Unsurprisingly, Superman is a pretty awesome dad. And Batman...is Batman. Which leads to Damien being...Damien.
Those vastly different parenting styles lends itself to breeding a cool dynamic between the boys, who are at the same time so similar and so different.
To be quite honest, this is the only comic I'm still really following from DC's Rebirth line. I'm not saying the others are all crap, but Super Sons is the only one that I immediately grab when I see it.
It's not perfect, and I doubt anything these kids do will resonate for long within the DC universe, but it's a fun title.

This book has so much damn heart. The chemistry between Jon and Damian is perfect. Peter Tomasi and Jorge Jimenez have just created a winning book. Jimenez is quickly ascending the upper echelon of comic book artists. It's so nice to read a book that just makes you happy. I loved the introduction of the Teen Titans. Tomasi writes them so well that I wish he wrote their book as well. It's impossible to read this book without cracking a smile.

When I read through the arc with the clay children and Kraklow (sp?) the first time, I wasn't super fond of it but there were so many other great moments in this volume that I couldn't possibly rate it lower. Tomasi just gets at the heart of the dynamic between Jon and Damian and it is so wonderful to see! I loved getting to see Damian interact with Clark and watch Clark with Jon.
There's more of Bruce's interactions in this volume and that was really interesting to see. With Clark and Jon, it's a much more typical father/son relationship where Clark gives Jon rules and expects Jon to follow them out of respect and understanding that his father is just trying to keep him safe. With Damian and Bruce, it's much more complex and difficult. It's clear that Bruce has a lot of respect for how far Damian's come in his training with the little grin he gives when he's unable to sneak up on Damian. Bruce sets boundaries through tracking devices and reconnaissance rather than just asking and whether that's because A) Damian's history, B) Bruce's history with bat boys or C) he's just hella paranoid, it is an interesting parenting technique. I was fascinated to see him asking Clark if he imposed similar rules on Jon. It was like he was checking in on whether his parenting style was reasonable.
I am super, super excited to see where this all goes with this new chapter in Damian and Jon's relationship. I must say that Jon's brilliant idea to have Damian "fly" on the roof of the truck actually made me tear up. Flying, really flying, is a new thing for Jon and he wanted to share that with his friend. It was lovely to see!

This was so much fun omg!
So we have the coming of Teen tians and Jon is kinda enthusiastic to join them but he is 10 and Damian doesn't want that and we have a clash of personalities and then we see the Titans go up against this wizard Kraklow and his army of villains and what happens to Damian and getting old and then seeking Jon's help and fighting these villains and the fall out of that and I love the way the motives and origins of the villain Kraklow are explained and them going to the alternate dimension of this wizard and well the planet itself is an eating one called "Ygardis" and so Jon and Damian have to survive that and team up with the heroes there!
Its a crazy volume filled with antics and even more crazy adventures and new characters even in that alt dimension but I love how they inspired the villain to be heroic and well made that world better even if they were there for a short while and I love the way its written, just inspiring throughout!
So yeah a good volume with great stories and all around great friendship between the two showing how they compliment each other and feeling like Tomasi has such a great grip on the two and its light hearted and makes for a spectacular read plus the art by Jorge just gets better with every volume! One of the crown jewels of the DC rebirth era!

Super Sons is just a pure joy to read.
So what do we have here? Well, Robin and the Teen Titans go on a mission together but the villain turns Robin to a old man. Jon joins the group to take down the evil bad guys! Then the next chapter is Jon and Damien getting sucked into a new world. Last issue is basically Jon learning to fly again and Damien and Jon get their own headquarters!
Good: The art is amazing. Really. It's so vibrant and joyful, and the effects with the attacks look awesome. Jon is such a delight whenever he interacts with the titans or with Damien. Damien and Jon's relationship is really well done and interesting, and very funny. I also think the very last issue captures this series perfectly as well as the teen titans team up.
Bad: The whole other world storyline drags on a bit and a little meh at points with the pacing.
Overall besides the middle, this is so damn fun. Super Sons remains super fun, and it's pretty funny. Damien and Jon are the best. A 4 out of 5.

Jon and Damian are very entertaining when they are together. I think this is because their personalities are very different from each other.
Jon is always looking out for his friends as well as civilians. He comes across as kind and friendly. Damian cares about saving others, but his remarks come across as more dark or cocky. This makes a lot of sense when you look at who their parents are.
I love seeing Batman and Superman as parents!!! Superman is a little more stricter when it comes to following the rules. Many of his conversations with his son revolve around morals and the concept of what it means to be a good superhero. Batman is a little less strict, but he is always looking out for his son's best interests.
This graphic novel is comical, cute, and entertaining. I'm curious to see what the DC universe has planned next for these two.
PS: I prefer Tim Drake, Jason Todd and Dick Grayson as Robin. Damian's personality works well for this graphic novel though.

An improvement over Volume 1: When I Grow Up, the follow-up Planet of the Capes features even more bickering and busting of heads by the pint-sized offspring of the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel. The best stretch of the book guest-starred the dependable Teen Titans jumping into the action alongside the duo to take on 'The Forgotten Villains.' Hilarity ensues when the Titans - notably the female members - are impressed and charmed by Superboy's pleasant demeanor and talent, much to Robin's chagrin. There's also a nice little coda featuring the boys with their off-duty dads.

This book is just soooo good!
World: Jimenez is a genius and his art is what elevates this stunning story to classic hights. The perfect example of how important he is happens during midway through issue 9 when the book switches artists (he comes back for the last few pages...but it was jarring) and then issue 10 was not him. Sure, the artists that pick up the issues was good, but it's different, Jimenez has an eye for this series and his facial expressions are just...they give so much to the characters. The world building here is fantastic, not only is there a very wonderful Teen Titans tie in that matters, but also the world building with the new cave and the larger part of the DC world as a whole is fantastic.
Story: Amazing. The pacing the structure, the tone is all simply perfect. I feel that this is Tomasi's very writing and it's just pure fun. The team up with Teen Titans was fantastic, with many wonderful banter and character moments that really brought that team together (more than the Teen Titans series itself). In 2 issues Tomasi was able to beautifully illustrate the dynamic of that team (I wish he was writing that series...). Then theres the second part of the Planet of the Capes story which was also fun and tied into the theme and perceptions of good and evil and growing up and doing good (all simple and beautiful concepts perfect for this series). The final issue with the new base is also great, beautiful banter, wonderful character moments, changing the status quo. I love this series.
Characters: I was a bit annoyed when Rebirth didn't bring back Conner and team him up with Damian but now I see I was wrong, this team up is fantastic. The banter, the chemistry between these two created by Tomasi and Jiminez is unreal (Abnett needs to read this book and learn to put it in his Titans book). Damien is great cause there's actually a lot of room for him to grow and same with Jon it's beautiful and how they interact is gold. The rest of the Teen Titans was also fun and their characters really shines through, it was fantastic. The villain of this arc came off kinda dumb but his arc really is a microcosm of the difference between this Rebirth universe and the New52, fantastic!
I love this series this is the best book DC has period.
Onward to the next book!

Super Sons focuses strongly on the relationship and interactions between Superboy and Robin. They are amazing together, and the contrast in their philosophies on how to be a hero is so entertaining to read.

Superboy and Robin find themselves battling alternate reality supervillains, super-clay with a mind of its own, and not one but two wizards in their second adventure as a dynamic duo!
Eh. That's the last thing I want to say about this series, but...eh. I really, really like the concept of the series, and both the arc before this and the current arc are excellent, but this middle one just feels...eh. The focus on the Super Sons relationship feels like it's shoved to one side in order to explain a very convoluted plotline that doesn't deserve the amount of exposition it gets.
What this book gets really right is introducing the Teen Titans to Superboy; their reactions, and then their participation in the adventure make perfect sense, and it's fun to watch Damian squirm. Plus it makes their appearance in the next arc make more sense, so that's nice too.
The final issue is probably the best, which points the focus back on the two kids as they gain their own secret hideout, as well as setting up a new status quo for the series. The art however cannot be faulted. Jorge Jimenez is a rapidly rising star, and his slick art paired with Alejandro Sanchez's colours are just a recipe for success. Gorgeous, page after page.
With all that said though, with the revelation that the current arc of the book is going to be the end, most of this volume feels like a missed opportunity, spending too much time on superfluous side characters instead of exploring Damian and Jon to their full extent.

Such a fun series! Damian Wayne and Jon Kent are a hilarious duo! These books are so fun! I can’t wait to get to the next one! Five stars! Highly recommended!

I am very disappointed to hear this tile has been canceled! I think they had just found their stride! The book had a nice blend of genuine and realistic conflict between the two leads, without being one of those annoying books where the characters argue the entire time. The tension between these two was much more playful and rooted in characterization and the differences in how they had problems and supervillains.
I will almost miss the heart and light tone of this book. It is nice to read a well-written, action packed comic that delivers a good story while not taking itself too seriously.
I loved the opening issues in this volume that have the duo pairing up with the Teen Titans. Hopefully the powers that be will see this as a good batch and ad Superboy Jon to the roster of that team.

I'd rate this higher based on the great interaction between the titular characters and Jon's great heart, but the stories didn't grab me. The character bits--especially Jon showing Damien how to "fly"--were perfect, but I could hardly summon any interest in Kraklow & co (the villains).

I enjoyed this one as much as volume 1. In this arc, we get a little extradimensional and the teen titans lend a hand.
Just like the first volume, there is a ton of snark from Damian...and Jonathan Kent has some sick burns too.
I think my favorite out of the volume would have to be the last issue where Superman and Bat Man give Damian and Jonathan a secret hideout. I love thatthey Jonathan named it the Fortress of Attitude.
This is a great title. Full of fun...the art is awesome and the colors really pop. Its just light-hearted goodness and is refreshing with all the bleak titles that I tend to normally gravitate towards.

I can’t even with these two! Is that right? Am I using slang correctly? Lol!
Their interactions are just adorable. I really love the dialogue between them. You can just feeling a budding friendship growing.

They secretly love each other. The moment when Jon pulls Damian onto the top of the truck to “fly” is just so freakin’ sweet. He finally started flying and wanted to share that moment with his friend. Ugh, my heart!
Also, it’s really interesting to see Bruce and Clark’s parenting. They’re drastically different. Jon and Clark’s relationship is built on mutual respect and trust on both sides. Clark bends down to speak to his son on an equal level. Meanwhile, Bruce seems domineering. He always stands above Damian. I don’t know if that’s because he came into his life later, Damian’s previous upbringing, or Bruce’s relationships with past Robins, but he’s not as trusting. I’m not defending Bruce, but I wouldn’t know how to raise a tiny assassin either.
It is nice to see Damian’s interactions with Clark as well. He doesn’t yell back as much but there’s still a little sass there. Also, Bruce seems to be trying to be a better father in the last issue here. When he’s setting new rules for Damian, he looks to Clark for validation. It’s cute. Like, bro, idk what to do with my kid.
Anyway, when does volume 3 come out? Because I need more of this:
Their interactions are just adorable. I really love the dialogue between them. You can just feeling a budding friendship growing.

This is proving a lot of fun. Tomasi has found a way to tell stories that believably get Damian and Jonathon into trouble, just enough that they have to work a bit to get out, and yet it never feels ridiculously like a kid's fantasy of how much better they are than adults--like those awful 3 Ninjas films form twenty years ago.
As written by Tomasi, Jonathon seems to draw out Damian in a way that no one else does, and what feels like obnoxious bravado--well it is still obnoxious bravado--is shown to be covering a severe inferiority complex at least as much as it is the product of Damian's massive ego. That kind of complicated contradictory humanity is a huge part of what makes the book so much fun.
The stories here work well, Damian and Jonathon work very, very well together--just as their father's do--their disparate personalities, abilities, and approaches making them wonderful foils for each other.

This series continues to be cute, funny, and just one of the most fun superhero comics to come out in a long time. Great opportunities taken to show Superman and Batman doing totally mundane things, and the introduction of the Teen Titans is a nice addition without dominating or changing the tone too much.

So many great things happened in this volume. I loved it. The story-line really progressed from Volume 1.
I loved the Teen Titans introduction! Really makes me want to read Teen Titans next so I think I will. It was interesting to see how Damian's dynamic with Jon shifted when the Teen Titans were around. Also interesting to see how they accepted him. Really hope this would mean Jon joins the Teen Titans some time in the future.
Old Man Robin was such a good moment and unfortunately short-lived. Wish we'd seen more of that. It was a bit of a shocking moment to see an Old Damian. Definitely a comedic moment.
And by the end of the volume Jon and Damian have bonded so much; Damian has really mellowed. Of course he's still witty and cynical and rude at times but there's that amazing moment when Jon gets Damian to lie on the top of the truck to remind him of the sensation of flying. And it was just a great moment. Very touching. You really see Damian grow and over a long amount of time too not suddenly all at once because that would be unrealistic.
Excited to read the Super Sons of Tomorrow crossover next!

This was so cute and funny. Damien and Jon's blossoming friendship is great. Their Dad's intervening in their lives to keep the friendship going is fun to read. The art was beautiful for most of the volume, however I did notice some inconsistencies in the art, and while I appreciate what was trying to be done in that particular instance with the art change, I didn't really like it- it was harsh, blocky, and not in stride with the rest of the comic. I also noticed a lot more of a traditional comic feel, where the scenes are cut differently, in different shapes, etc, I felt an overwhelming meh feel towards that. I wish it was a little more minimalistic in that regard like the last volume.

This is entirely aimed at the kids, no doom and gloom but rather joking around about it. However, it is part of the story proper that is going around the DCU at this time. While I don't like the current Superboy I do like this new team-up with Robin. The sarcasm is witty and it follows the good-cop/bad-cop routine. The boys find themselves in trouble with an old forgotten villain and this storyline looks like it may get pretty serious. The final issue is a one-off of the two 'training' together but there is a pause for an incredibly awesome peak at a villain soon to come. Overall, a decent read with a mixture of fun and fighting.

Super Sons is quickly becoming one of my favorite comics. Jimenez's art is gorgeous and it is really one of my favorite aspects of the story. I love all the rich details and the way the characters personalities shine through their facial expressions and body language. I just can not get enough of this art.
And the characters. Tomasi writes Damian and Jon so well! They are so much fun together, the way their personalities build and clash against one another. They never cease to put a smile on my face. Their interactions really are the highlight for me.
