Grandma's gun floating around the floorboards in her car, a chilling encounter on a backwater canoe ride, and summer heat that just won't quit. Flatlands is a short story collection set in a quirky, unique, somewhat backwards part of Kansas and Oklahoma where the wheat reigns and the flat land never ends.
I liked some of the stories within, but equally couldn't get in to the other half. I'd say the strongest story was Wheat Fields Lost, which felt closer to a piece of flash fiction but was a very easy and enjoyable read. This is worth picking up and giving a read as there's enough diversity in the stories that you should find something, if not all of it, to enjoy.
