Firefly Junction #1-3

Firefly Junction Cozy Mystery Series: Books 1-3

Rate this book
This volume contains the first three complete cozy mysteries in London Lovett's Firefly Junction Cozy Mystery series. Join Sunni Taylor, Brady 'Jax' Jackson and the Cider Ridge ghost for three cozy mysteries with fun paranormal twists.

Death in the Park (Book 1)

With her social life and writing career in tatters at the ripe old age of thirty-five, Sunni Taylor decides to pack up her things and join her sisters, Lana and Emily, in the small town of Firefly Junction. Hoping to open a bed and breakfast, Sunni sets herself the task of refurbishing the rundown Cider Ridge Inn, a two-hundred-year-old house with a sordid past. In the meantime, she's stuck writing dull human interest stories for the Junction Times. But when Sunni decides to bend the rules on her first newspaper assignment, she soon finds herself in her favorite place—right in the center of a murder investigation. Now if she can just steer clear of the cocky, irritating and far too appealing local detective , Brady "Jax" Jackson.

It isn't long before Sunni discovers that avoiding Jax is a piece of cake compared to staying clear of the equally cocky, irritating and far too appealing two-hundred-year-old ghost haunting the halls of the Cider Ridge Inn.

Killer Bridal Party (Book 2)

When a bridal shower in the woods turns deadly, Sunni sets her sights on solving the tragic case.

Journalist, and occasional sleuth, Sunni Taylor is working hard on restoring the Cider Ridge Inn to its former glory so that she can open a bed and breakfast, but Edward Beckett , the resident ghost, is not exactly helpful. Still, Sunni has grown used to having the arrogant gentleman spirit hanging around.

Despite her busy life, Sunni offers to help her sister Lana set up a bridal shower camping party in the mountains behind the inn. The festivities end in disaster when the maid of honor ends up dead. Now Sunni finds herself back in the center of a murder investigation and face to face with the absurdly charismatic Detective Brady Jackson. Sunni is determined to beat the detective to the clues and solve the murder mystery herself.

Murder at the Inn (Book 3)

When the Applegate Paranormal Preservation Society visits Firefly Junction, Sunni Taylor finds herself tasked with writing an article about the group as well as hosting them for an evening at the Cider Ridge Inn. When the society moves on to their next destination, the famously haunted Dandelion Inn in the neighboring town, one member dies in a tragic fall. But things don't seem quite right at the accident scene and soon Sunni finds herself wrapped up in a possible murder investigation with her favorite detective, Brady Jackson.

Not as good as book 1. This book 2 of the series of books are cosy mysteries with a dash of murder served up with a resident ghost on the side. Although I like to pick up a quite easy read book now and then, this one, I'm sorry to say, was a little too cosy for me.

While I read the whole book and rated it on par with most other cozies, I do have one bone to pick with this series. I can't really say I'm offended, per se, but one thing kind of rubbed me the wrong way. As a former small town journalist, the attitude toward such (by the main character, no less, about her own job) was kind of irritating. I no longer have any kind of personal stake in it, but -- especially given the current sociopolitical climate -- I think it's important to recognize the positive aspects of journalism, so I felt that it was appropriate to point this out.
Small town journalism may not be known for many big, flashy stories, but it definitely still has its place and is important in its own way. And feature stories, like the ones the main character turned her nose up at ... yeah, also important. They make people connect with others in a way they may not, otherwise, and they give people a chance to feel special. Everyone deserves that. Everyone has a story. A good journalist knows that and knows their task is to find that story ... and a good journalist does. Without having to always be the stereotypical annoying, pushy reporter pissing people off. Sometimes that's necessary, I've been there too, but just as frequently, it isn't. A little respect goes a long way. Sometimes you don't need to sneak around behind buildings. You can just go through the front door and get what you need.
Plus, those big, hard-hitting stories, especially about negative things ... they're exhausting. They drain you, emotionally. Journalists are human. They aren't heartless automatons. They feel their stories as much as, if not more than, most of the readers. A nice feature story can be such a relief.
Also, looking at it from a different angle more relevant to me now, those human interest pieces can be really incredible for historic researchers and genealogists.
Bigger newspapers are great too, don't get me wrong, and what we call hard news is obviously incredibly important, but it's a different market and a different purpose I've done some of both, hard and soft news, larger and smaller markets, and both have pros and cons, for the journalist and the reader alike. Neither is inherently bad or unimportant. Both can and should co-exist. It just makes everything better.
I know there wouldn't be a story without the lead character pushing to investigate and solve the murder, so I get what the author was going for, truly, and I respect the difficulty in striking just the right balance. I'm not a fiction writer; it takes a special skill that I admittedly don't have. I'm really not feeling as harsh and negative toward this series as it may seem from only reading this review. I don't want it to seem like I'm saying it's terrible. It isn't. It's just not necessary to have the character be so snobbish about typical small town media in the process of creating these stories. I'm sure that wasn't really the intention, either, but that's how it came across. I think there's a different, better way to do it, and I think the author is good enough to find it. It's just not quite there in these first three stories of the series.
Also, I have to say, the bits of the character's writing that were included ... well, I'm really kind of nit-picking here, but they just weren't right for a newspaper. It was fine writing, don't get me wrong, but journalism involves a whole other writing style. Even small papers don't write their stories the same way a book is written. That's what this was. That probably wouldn't even be noticeable to most readers, so, again, very minor issue, but it would improve the series as a whole and make it feel more real.
Having said all of that, I still enjoyed the underlying stories as much as any other. Yes, the series could've used a little more background research on the character's profession, both to make it all more realistic and to be less dismissive of the job, but all of that is actually a pretty minor plot point and can probably be ignored for most of the reading time. I would consider reading more of the series, I just hope that, as it develops, so does the character's attitude.

Thoroughly enjoyed all three books. So much so that I ordered book 4. It is a refreshing read, a bit quirky, but always interesting.
My only problem is that Jax, who comes across as a player sure is playing slow with Sunni. Is he just fooling around with her for the hell of it, or is he really attracted to her and doesn't like the idea that he is that attracted to any woman? Well, we shall see.
Can't wait till I get into reading Book 4 to see what happens next. What is the premise for the next murder, will Sunni find out more info on Edward's child and subsequent descendants, will Raine ever get to see and meet Edward, how come Jax can hear Edward (could he possibly be one of Edward's descents), how is the renovation coming along and will Jax get his act together and go for it with Sunni.
Highly recommend this book to one and all.
Gotta go now and start reading that Book #4.

This free threesome was a delight to read. It's light hearted fare, a good beach read.
The main characters, Sunni and her two sisters as well as her clairvoyant friend Rein, who seems to be the real thing, along with the handsome detective Jackson, and the delightful Edward, the resident ghost, make a delightful and interesting group which kept me reading far beyond bedtime.
Sunni is an investigative reporter, and a good one. She got fired from her job because she got too close to the truth on one of her stories so she moves to her family property to join her sisters and restore the Inn that was her inheritance. While she scoffs at the legend of her resident ghost, she is forced to change her mind when Edward appears and she is faced with the reality of the legend.
Each book had its own murder to be investigated along with the developing relationship between Sunni and Det. Jackson. There is humor and we get to see the closeness and patience we all need when dealing with family and friends.
I do intend to read more of this series mainly to see what develops between Sunni and Jackson but also to see what Sunni digs up to help Edward find his eternal rest.
Good work London Lovett!

I enjoyed this series. How the the how the friendship of Sunni and Raine grows. How Sunni starts to believe in her friends psychic powers after she see in the tarot cards that there will be a murder. Sunni also has a big secret a ghost who has dwelled in the house see is renovating for 200 years. Her friend feels his presence but Sunni promised to keep his secret.

She is a reporter for a local newspaper and the assignment she gets always ends up with someone
Dyeing. That's how she meets the handsome detective and how he learns to trust her sleuthing techniques. Their start is not great they get closer as he likes her more. However, there still just friends. This series is a fun read

A little bit of 👻 ghost,and a foodie paradise

I'm a little partial to fun with a paranormal twist. Throwing in a !mystery and a trade of romance and This Book made me a happy reader! Actually there are 3 books in this set. Each story builds upon the next and like making new friends
your knowledge of their lives and abilities deepen. I'm thoroughly enjoying my adventures in Firefly. Not on ly the mysteries but do not be hungry because the food is so deliciously described, if your not hungry you soon will be.I'm on my way to get the next book. If you like an enjoyable experience read this Author.

When I realised that I was dealing with ghosts (the existence of which I do not accept), and someone who uses Tarot cards (which I believe to be satanic), I was tempted to stop reading. However, in spite of myself, I enjoyed the three stories - even if some of the events were easily spotted many pages before they were revealed.

I don't know that I would go to the trouble of looking out for the rest of the series just to find out if Sunni and Jax tie the knot (I am also against divorcees remarrying while their former spouse is alive - it's called adultery!), but I suspect that they would be equally easy reading, and equally "unputdownable"!

DEATH IN THE PARK
Sunni has joined her sisters in Firefly Junction working at the Junction Post. newspaper, wages barely enough to live on. With having the old house that had been sitting empty fixed up to be a B & B she hoped.
Lana with her party business thought it would be a good combination.then with the house having ghosts, and maybe to have seances held.
Sunni stumbles into a big story with the murder and happenings at the school, and meeting the detective Jackson. Now to get the article written about the murder man. Good story, murder along with her sisters.
Good enjoyable series

A cozy cozy

Firefly Junction is about a journalist who lost her job, so she moved back to her old town where her sisters live. She gets a job working at a small town newspaper. Needless to say, she gets involved with three murders, spiced up with a ghost that lives in the broken down home she is trying to renovate, a hunk of a police detective, two dogs and a great diner.

While the books don't keep you on the edge of your seat, the characters are well done, and the books were perfect for leisurely reading.

If you might be put off by this being "paranormal" cozy mystery, the ghost is hardly in any of the books. He's in it so little, I wonder why the author even included him at all. Which makes me feel sorry for him, being alone for hundreds of years, he finally has someone to talk to and she hardly gives him the time of day.

The characters are all entertaining, the location is interesting and Sunni being a reporter is one of the most plausible reasons in cozy mysteries for someone to be constantly solving murders. And I love the paper cut-out looking the book covers.

Fabulous!

I love this series! I've read them all and have started reading them again. They are just as good the a second time. I have my sister hooked on them too.
Sunni is so much fun and if newspaper stories were like the pieces of stories in the books I might start reading the paper. Edward makes me want to believe in ghosts. And Jackson, wow, I'm in love. The stories are interesting and make me laugh out loud. The only bad thing about the books is that London Lovett doesn't write fast enough. Hurry with the next one, please.

I had red the first book in this series so jumped at a deal on this boxed set. Before the review, a tech note. Most peole likely know this but, unless you have a lot of storage on your device, downloading a box set may eat more space than you have. I read on tablets, and mine are older, but newer devices may have the same issues.

On to tell you I love these books! Great setting, excellent characters, and the fast paced plots are wonderfully entertaining. Love the bits of humor, too! I'm eager to read the next one in the series!

This is a pretty good series, with believable plot lines and a nice cast of characters. After reading the first three in just over a day, I'd be ready to read more, and may at some point.

Particularly nice is the way Lovett manages to continue the tension between Jackson and Sunni through three entire story lines.

Well worth a read. Minor peeves over grammar and the need for a final proofread, but it's good.

Overall a fun little set. Not enough to pull me into book 4 and on, but kept me going for these 3 books. Negatives: overly simplistic too often. The detective is just too happy to have the journalist help him. She claims 'success' when she just finds the same results the officers do. Maybe a bit too cozy for me - nice little bows that don't develop but just appear. The dialogue is a bit robotic at times - people saying things that work as a description but not so much as dialogue.
Positives: like I said, fun. Easy read. Distracting and light

Three great stories!

These three books are the beginning of a series of books about Sunni and her detective, Jax. There are mysteries and murder in all the books and a romantic ghost in Sunni's inn that is in the middle of being remodeled and restored. Sunni has two sisters in the books and a farm full of darling animals . You'll love her ghost.

Found myself drawn into Firefly Junction

Without realizing it, I found myself completely immersed in the town and residents of Firefly Junction. The first three books were over before I realized it and now I can’t wait to read more. I have a theory about a thing or two, and I look forward to seeing if I’m right.

A ghostly series

I really enjoyed reading this set of books. I love a good mystery! I try to figure out “who done it” before the end of the book and this set actually had me guessing till the end. I enjoyed how the author brought the 3 stories together with a little romance mixed in! Looking forward to reading more about Firefly Junction.

Ghosts, lights, Action

I truly enjoyed the meandering, ethereal build of the three stories and the hint of a possible spirited romance between Bluebird and Jax. Solving murders and mysteries aren't all they seem to have in common.I

I wonder are Edward and Jax cut from the same .....See a true mystery in the making..

Stories within stories are really good.

Firefly Junction becomes a place of family, friendship and wonderfully different occupations. Along the way, murder becomes a challenge to the main character along with a tall handsome detective to help solve . Falling in love with him is another aspect of this extremely attractive dude! Oh, and are the ghosts in the mansions real?

Cozv Mysteries from Firefly Junction

Books 1-3 of Firefly Junction were captivating. I didn’t want to put them down! The characters were fun! Hope they are all in the next books. The plots had many twists and turns. Romantic happenings, as well as psychic events hook me into wanting to read the rest of the series!

While I loved all three books the third book Murder at the Inn was my favorite, mainly because it seems like it is the only book where Sunni's article was the murder she was investigation instead of the reason why she was always around.

They need to go ahead and kiss. Stop keeping us waiting.

Loved all three books. I have seen a person who had died. My son appeared to me one night and said; Mom i love you. I'm okay. " He appeared in the corner of my bedroom.
