Back Lands magazine for outdoor enthusiasts has featured Robin Hawke and her outfitting business several times. When her friend, Josie Whittle, the editor-in-chief of the magazine, asks Robin to take a group of writers and photographers out for a week Robin is happy to do it until she finds out that one of the writers going on the trip has never even been camping, let alone gone on a multi-day hike. After getting fired from a business magazine, her life in ruins, and forced to go home to Colorado where her father has her under his thumb, Marianne Jones is lucky to be writing for anyone. Her new boss at Back Lands magazine, Josie, insists Marianne go out on a weeklong hike with some other writers and photographers from the magazine. The only hiking Marianne does is at the mall and she’s never been camping, so she is not happy about this trip. Marianne makes Robin mad before the hike even starts, and Robin assumes Marianne is just another snooty socialite forced to work by her parents. Both women try to ignore the sparks flying between them on the trails in vain. These two women with nothing in common, except broken hearts, are thrown together by fate. Can they find common ground, or will tragedy take away the chance for them to find out what they could have had?
M.E. Tudor lives in south central Kentucky with her cute dog, Ruby and cat, Chesher. She has an Associates Degree and Bachelor's Degree from Western Kentucky University and works as a librarian. When not working or writing, M.E. loves to travel, camp and hike.
A great story about a long distance hike in the most scenic spots but difficult to pass , a city girl who is completely unprepared for the elements, a Native American, greedy men, betrayed by a friend and attempted murder. You get a taste of the Ute culture, a bit of suspense, a wonderful romance and a few surprises along the way. I liked the storyline and the dynamic between the main characters is heartwarming. It was an exciting and enjoyable read.
A quick read. A fast paced story of opposites meeting and feeling connected. Robin a strong, beautiful, adventurous woman who is not easily fazed, and Marianne a woman who doesn’t see her own strength and beauty but has ...gumption. She’s tired of living under her fathers thumb. The two will come together and help each other.
I don’t want to give anything away but I cried reading the last scene. The description of that moment and how beautifully described. Aahhhhhhhh
I give this one 3.5 Stars. I have had some decent luck with KU lately. Pretty much every book I have read there have been worth the read. If I read a 3 or above star book, I feel pretty successful. I found it worth the read. There is chemistry, good sex, light on the angst. All the things that I like to have in my romances.
I really liked this one. If you are in a need for light reading this one is for you. I loved the setting, how the main characters met and how it ended.
A neat action adventure story with a lot more in it than one would initially think.
I loved the native American elements of the story, the character of Robin is of Ute heritage as are her parents.
Her love interest Marianne is struggling with her parents disapproval.
Both are hurt from previous relationships. But are able to find solace and future in eachother among the wilds of Colorado and threats from unknown enemies that are revealed in the story.
A heart warming story with lots of outdoorsy camping in nature, especially in the cold. But the lovers certainly bring the heat! Lol.
2.5 stars. Rounded up to 3 because it was free on KU.
I found the writing really plodding and jerking, like a car running out of petrol.... Marianne, the little blonde vixen (really...), and Robin, a Native American wilderness guide, get thrown together and don’t like each other. But also fancy each other.
The writing often annoyed me, I found the plot pedestrian and boring, and didn’t like the characters much.
I probably should’ve given up in this at the point where I was seething that a woman was described as a slut....
This was...bad. The conversation bits were extremely forced. People don't talk like this story depicts. They use contractions for goodness sake. I know this is going to sound weird but the author referred to the characters by name way too often. I get that some people dont like to refer to characters as "the brunette" or "the accountant" but 7 times in one paragraph is just ridiculous. I had to skip over the sex scenes because the amount of times the names were used in each sentence just made my head spin. It was bad enough that I dont think I'll read anything else from this author.
The characters were likeable enough. The chemistry pretty nonexistent.
The story itself was okay. I love hiking, which is why I read this but it did get a little far fetched in the end, but hey, its fiction.
A generous 2 stars. I'm not sure what the other reviewers were reading.
A good story and likeable characters, but the writing style is clunky.
Avalanche of Love flashes by so quickly that it appears to be fueled by the speed force. Robin Hawke and Marianne Jones had a definite uber quality without being overwhelmed by it. While reading, I was swept along with this novel and its beautiful mountain scenery. The love and reverence for the natural world, as seen while hiking in Colorado, makes this book special.
This was cute, and I definitely loved the hiking aspect. I do wish it had been longer and spent more time with the characters. I also felt that a lot of plotlines were in a fairly short book, but it was still an enjoyable read
This book has a great deal to offer: a growing love between two women of different backgrounds who find a home in each other; an awesome natural environment that sets the stage for a confrontation between those who would destroy our national heritage for profit, and those who risk their very lives to guard it. ( If only the bad guys could be vanquished as easily as they are here...! ) In sum, this story is not only about personal love, but also about love of our sacred beautiful Earth that involves all of us, and the two themes are nicely interwoven with plenty of action too. Good work!
A great story and read.About two different women and friends Each one having been hurt by love. They meet when one of them was late for the hiking trip and bringing suitcaes. The leader wasn't amused as she had kept them deayed by nearly two hours. This is a love story with a lot more to it. Well worth a read. The author M.E. Tudor. Wrote a great story.looking forward to reading more by her Well deserved 5stars
Avalanche of love is simply about two different people who discover everlasting love. It was a quick and pleasant read that made me smile at times. The main characters are adorable, and the plot unfolds easily. The novel is definitely a romance that allows the reader to take a journey from the accidental meeting of the characters to their happily ever after. I just love stories that end well!!!
I loved this story from the beginning, I chose the book because I wanted something that was from the great outdoors that had adventure and drama, and it did not disappoint me, this was a great love story as well as a beautiful description of the wilderness, I really enjoyed the story.
Omg this was truly I great book to read I loved it from the beginning to the end it was a great written and got me hooked I love how it seem to come to life and sucked u in I love the story line how it took from great unexpected moment to the next
A wonderful story, well written, expressed and colorful. Kinda felt the cold weather and snow freezing my feet. Awesome. M.E Tudor can sure write a story, with good guy and bad guys.
About the discovery, insecurity & passion in the pursuit of a relationship between two women— both bearing the scars from their contemptible exes, past damages & bitter betrayals— as they attempt to find love & acceptance in/with each other.
Overall, an enjoyable read. The combination of the simplistic writing (I'm thirsty for some contractions now) and robotic delivery from the narrator were the only major downsides, but this tends to get absorbed when you're listening at a faster speed.
Romance set in the Colorado mountains. Can Marianne make a new start when her life is in shambles? Can Robin learn to trust again when everything she has valued is being destroyed? It all starts with Robin leading a multi-day hike that includes Marianne who's never been on a hike before.
so i didnt like it from the beginning that much with them kinda unnaturally thinking so freaking much about one another and i wanted to give it a chance but that thing ended up being the least of the problems:
/ hate the stereotypes where one person in a wlw relationship OBVIOUSLY has to be a butch one ugh like there’s not a chance two butch women could be together
/ one mc kissed another while half sleeping literally and the other took the chance?? and then the other woman woke up and they fucked tbh disgusting behavior
/ one mc (24yo) hooked up with a 17 yo girl
/ need i say more
/ if these aren’t problems for you you should probably check that again
/ but if u still cant find the problem with this then i gotta say that the pacing was very weird and unnatural, it was third pov but also the pov switching between the mcs was so common it got me confused like literally every other paragraph or something, i didn’t like one single character and even though its only about 4,5h long use that time for a better written book
Writing about a Native culture when it's not one's experience is risky and that risk failed here. It's hard to not read phrases like, she looked like a Native princess, as racist. The story was fine, but I also regularly couldn't tell which MC was talking because their voice was exactly the same and it was jarring to have other characters thoughts pop up as well. Also the first sex scene was disturbing as it was on the edge of lacking consent and then one of the MCs admits that at 24 she was with a 17 year old. It was a short, but disappointing read.
Well another great romance it’s got it all beautiful country, snow, drug dealers and assassins as well as the FBI,oh and not forgetting the embarrassing hot sex. What never ceases to amaze me is the details that M E puts into the background of her characters I’m by no means an expert on Native American culture but I as very impressed with what was written, its well worth a read on a fairly warm summers day
Loved the meshing of a city girl with an definitely outdoor girl. The interactions between the main characters was handled with finesse and delicacy. Was glad mom left that controlling husband and that Marianne finally stood up to him and allowed herself to enjoy life with Robin
Basic tale wherein rugged country mouse meets delicate city mouse and romance ensues. The characters have the makings of an interesting couple. However, there is a lot of melodrama and a few too many plot elements for this to really work. A judicious edit to focus more on the relationship might help.
This book is about nature, love and standing up for true love. This was a nice story. To me it felt a little rushed. Some aspects in my opinion could have been a little more detailed. But all in all a good book, worth reading or listen too.
Audiobook: The narration by Tanya Eby is great. I like her voice a lot and she does a great job.
This was amazing and beautiful love story ! I loved these 2 characters not hitting it off from the start with a city girl meeting a country girl hiking guide, guiding the team on adventures of hiking in the great outdoors making enemies at start but soon sneaking a look at each other here and there and finding love had me from beginning to end .
It was an easy read if you got a a couple hours to kill. The premise was good but it just didnt hold up for me. Needed more fleshing out and everything happened to quickly for my liking.
I nice little story for a lazy sunday afternoon. I thought the characters would have a bit more conflict at the start of the but the quickly fell for each other. I suppose if the book was a bit longer there could have been more development on that side of things. All in all not a bad story.
Rushed and pretty shallow. Didn’t find the chemistry very believable. But the writing was actually better than the narration (read the audiobook). Read one book from this narrator before, am going to avoid her in the future. Oh well, it was free on Audible. But certainly not recommended.
