They must either stand together, or the Kingdom will fall.
The combination of Dayie’s magic and dragon’s fire has halted the advance of the Deadweed. But it is not defeated. Now, a new enemy lurks on the horizon: Water Wraiths sweep in from the sea, cutting their way inland, and assisting the invading plant’s onslaught deeper into the land.
Killing everyone in their path.
The new strategy against the Deadweed has proven effective, but Dayie grows weaker each time she uses her powers. It can only be a temporary fix. When she and her dragon Zarr are invited to train with the High Mountains’ Dragon Riders, Dayie eagerly accepts the opportunity. But it’s far from a warm welcome as the tight-knit riders of the High Mountains distrust the outsider and her unusual power.
When the High Mountains leader suggests a compromise, a schism in the ranks threatens to tear the group apart. The loyal few must convince both dragons and riders of the Southern Kingdom to join forces against the Water Wraiths. But Dayie won’t be much use to them if she can’t figure out how to balance her magic usage and avoid depletion.
To survive the growing menace, the Dragon Riders must set aside the things that divide them and unite.
Ava Richardson writes epic page-turning Young Adult Fantasy books. She creates lovable characters and drops them into intricate worlds that are barely contained within your eReader. Ava has written 21 YA dragon fantasy series, including her bestselling series Return of the Darkening and her recent series, Destia's Dragon Shifter War.
She grew up on a steady diet of fantasy and science fiction books handed down from her two big brothers – and despite being dog-eared and missing pages, she loved escaping into the magical worlds that those authors created. Her favorites were the ones about dragons; where they’d swoop, dive and soar through the skies of these enchanted lands.
I have never seen a series go so long without going into detail on a single topic. we are haphazardly and randomly thrown around from plot point to plot point, from one side of the kingdom to the other. I am over halfway through a trilogy, and I am no closer to understanding the world the "story" is set in. I wish I could say it's because it was explained badly, or that I couldn't understand it, but it's worse than that. it lacks any depth AT ALL. characters and their motivations change on a whim, we speed through scenes and entire plot points that should have encompassed the majority of the book! it's as if they edited out all of the interesting bits and only published the conclusions those bits lead up to.
It's definitely the worst book/series I've read in at least a year
I love dragon tales and this series in the second one by the author that I am loving. Here Dayie keeps getting stronger and embracing her abilities as this story progresses. I love how she creates such vulnerability cloaked in strength with her female heroines and with Dayie, you can't help but love that inasmuch as she has her doubts, it does not stop her from wanting to get up and keep fighting. Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
This is a super enjoyable series. I look forward to the next one, they are really, truly a fun ride (yes, pun intended). The storyline is super engaging, and the author's voice draws the reader in. I liked it very much.

I was more than ready to read this after having enjoyed its prequel so much. Such an amazing continuation this is to the first book that looking forward to the third and last of this trilogy is a given!
The story begins with Dayie taking over training duties in the Training Hall at Dagfan. There is a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done when it comes to the south's horrifying methods of dragon training. Seeing that, she has made it a point to go for change even with Chief Talal's hesitancy and the Southern Lords' most probable rejection. In the meantime, the Deadweeds are still a major problem that Akeem feels Dagfan cannot solve alone. As such, he has come up with a plan: form an alliance with the Wild Company. Akeem returns to the Binshee with Dayie, only to see that someone has challenged his right for the throne. But even that seems pretty mundane a problem compared to the Water Wraiths. With an ever-growing menace, will the dragon riders settle their differences and come together to fight?
Once again, the bond between Zarr and Dayie is a wonderful thing to read about. The growth from acting as a servant with a low level of confidence, to someone who is able to be her own kind of dragon rider, is apparent in this book, and I love it. Dayie's magic, too, takes up more of the spotlight, and it's always a wonder to discover what the author has included within this fantasy trilogy — even if it is a form that is commonly used. Magic, in any form, no matter how original, is always a fun subject to read about for me.
Akeem, too, has made a lot more appearance in this one, but has since lost a placement in my heart. A little. It is also because of him that there is a lot of testosterone in this installment, and I didn't like it. I expected more from him. But in his defense, he did grow up with people he loved leaving him; he also took over his father's place as prince from such a young age. It is, perhaps, because of his background that made him the way he is, and I can't fault him for it. I just hope he improves in the next book. With Aida by his side, and Dayie, there is a good chance that he may come out to be a better, more mature person.
Even so, I salute the author for being able to write a book like this, one that is so full of action from beginning to the end. It is nerve-racking to constantly have to go through battle after battle with the dragons and their bonded, not knowing how the events will turn out. I am, however, beginning to wonder if there will be any romance at all. It seems to me that Dayie and Akeem are only friends, even if they care about each other a lot. It hardly matters when the storyline is so interesting, but it didn't hurt to hope. Right?

I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you! This novel was a great continuation to the first novel in the Deadweed series. It continues with Dayie and Akeem trying to find a way to unite the Wild dragons and the Training Hall dragons. However, both training styles are different and it becomes difficult to change their views on the partnership between dragon riders and dragons. Akeem needs to return home and invites Dayie and her dragon, Zara, to come with him and Aida. Dayie does not feel welcome though, being an outsider and accused of being a witch. Her magic stopped the deadweed, but it was only a temporary solution. Water wraiths have joined with the deadweeds, causing much destruction. Dayie’s magic seems to be weakening and she needs to find out why. They need to discover who is behind all this leads to Dayie uncovering a little bit of her origins. We see Akeem’s struggles as well as his stubbornness as he tries to save the south. Dayie and Akeem need to bring many together to stop the plague that threatens to destroy everything.
Things get interesting in book 2. Akeems father left his tribe looking for some answers and never returned. Akeem has tried to keep the tribe and dragons together but now he has been challenged for the role of leader. The rules are simple combat on dragon back and fight with swords. No dragon fighting or contact between dragons. The challenge is for humans only. His challenger has other ideas and is a bully as well. He cheats during the challenge and Akeem is forced to flee as Ava his dragon got injured after a vicous clawing from the challenging dragon. Now Akeem lost the battle and his challenger is deemed the leader. However he doesn't like the task of battling the deadweed or the evil water wraiths that seem to be helping the deadweed. Dayie has left on a venture to find The Sorcerer of The Whispering Stones with a new found friend a witch. Dayie learns a little about her heritage and fears her magic is helping the deadweed. The question is can she get the sorcerer to help them and can she make it back in time before the deadweed overtakes the city? Another great read.
I in good conscious just cannot keep reading this book or continue with this series. There are so many problematic elements that I have tolerated, but I can no longer do that. Daye isn't all that of a good protagonist since she has a lot of internalized biases. The fact that she doesn't care about or call the Benshi's tribe customs stupid and that she doesn't care about them says a lot. Like I get her frustration and worry over Akeem regarding the combat ritual, but her thoughts were so annoying. Same with how she wondered if the 'gypsies' were all like Fawn. Just no.
I think the story would have been so much better had Akeem been the main character and if Daye really had not existed in this world in the first place.
Could not continue.

I am having a wonderful time reading this series. It reminds me of the Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffery and that was one of my favorite series. I love the relationship Dayie has with Zarr. She is learning so much from Akeem and the Wild Company dragons, but she needs to figure out about her magic. Not only are they still fighting the deadweed, but now there are water wraiths too. One step forward two steps back. This series is so exciting and tense. You never know what's gonna happen next. I must say it again, I love this series! I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.

Wow, This is the second book about Dayie and Zarr, Akeem and Aida, Latif and the other cast of the Training Hall, What a great story about dragon riders. So good it reminds me of the Dragon Riders of Pern. I can't express how great a story this is and can't wait for the next one. My only advice is if you like dragon riders then you really want to read this series. I look forward to more from this author.

The dragon riders must quit their squabbling and in fighting to unite against this powerful new threat. Yet even Dayie's magic and the powers of the dragons are not enough to stop the water wraiths. This is great storytelling with an awesome storyline and a quick thinking heroine pitted against some insurmountable odds. And even a sweet romance to enjoy. I loved it!

I liked how Dayie is trudging on with her life and helping with things, but I also like that as noble and arrogant as akeem is, he also has issues. Serious abandonment issues (as shown when Dayie leaves to find the sorcerer) and he kind of holds a grudge with that but i also think that he is developing feelings for dayie. I also like how his dragon tells him off aggressively and then beats him with her huge draconic feelings.

This proved to be a little difficult book to review.
At times interesting, at times rambling, this book came out to be a mix bag. The book ends with the promise of a very interesting book 3 though so that's something to look for.

Loving the relationships between dragon and rider. The action between the dragons and the deadweed has ramped up another level now that wraiths are involved. Plus we may now know where Dayie is from! Excited to see where that path leads and I can’t wait to see more from Nas surprisingly.
This is the second installment in the Deadweed Dragons Series and it's as good as the first one. Fast-paced, action-packed, with an intriguing and full of twists plotline, if you're a fan of dragons you'll just devour it. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Cool dragons, pretty good storyline, pretty relatable human characters, and is in desperate need of editing. There are a lot of stupid spelling and grammar errors that totally distracted me while reading.
The story continues as Dayie and Zaar' s bond strengthens as they help fight the Deadweed. As does the conflicting emotions between Dayie and Akeem. I love the characters and the story. A great Dragon read
Exciting read and great characters. As all of Ava Richardson's stories are. Well-written books which keep you interested from beginning to end. Can't wait for next book. Let the intrigue and fun begin.
If you like Dragon Riders of Pern, this is a treat.
Non stop adventures with Dragons and unusual adversaries. Kareen needs Ada and her calm, clear, reasonable (most of the time) thinking. He is such a hothead, but lovable anyway.
The story is decent, the protagonists are clueless and the rules of the world strange. Most importantly it is a very simple story arc. No twists no turns and no real surprises. Time pass - yes, banal - yes, forgettable - very much so.
Dragons are so wise and wistful! They speak with their hearts ,which it turns out it can be the difference between life and death. True hero's emerged from the flames today!
Dayie is growing stronger. I like that she's the voice of reason in a chaotic world. The prince and chief Talal are so annoying. But Dayie counters their annoyance.
