The Empire struggles for its survival against the dark elven hordes, and a new ally might mean victory or destruction. When the umbral elves offer to side with the Empire, Sir Tyrcamber Rigamond is sent to the Imperial Free City of Falconberg to help guard the Emperor's ambassador. But in the corrupt city of Falconberg, the treacherous politics of the merchant-lords might be more dangerous than the umbral elves themselves. And an ancient enemy might rise from the dust of the past...
Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.
He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.
This is the third book in the Malison series. I don't remember reading it before, although I have already read book four so perhaps I have.
The Umbra elf that interacts the most with Tyrcamber is a female named Charanis who is deadly with bow and arrow. The Umbra elves hate humans but hate the Theophract and the Valedictor even more. They also have a beef with Rilmael and his guardianship of Cathair Kaldran.
Tyrcamber is along as a body guard for the Chancellor of the Frankish Empire as he meets with the First of the Republic of Sygalynon (Umbra Elves) as he tries to forge an alliance regarding the forthcoming war with the Valedictor. Did I mention the muridachs?
Tyrcamber can't seem to avoid the Dragon Cult and has to determine its members amongst the finger pointing between the city's Shield and the aldermen. Mayhem ensues.
Mr moeller has gotten a lion's share of my reading time of late. I enjoy his stories. Mazael, Ridmark, Caina, Nadia all excellent characters with fun and full stories.
I truly love reading Jonathan Moeller’s books. I have been following him for several years. I am looking forward to reading many more. He weaves a spell and keeps the reader entranced.
A great read. Even better if you read it as the 3rd in the Malison series. It’s well written, full of intrigue and moves the overall story line onwards at a very enjoyable pace!
The good thing about the 'Malison' series is that the fighting scenes are good. On the downside there's not much more to the overall plot - it's good versus bad, with some trying to sit on the fence. Three books in the author apparently realised that women were almost completely absent - this time we have not one but two powerful women, and one of them is rather attractive! “Dragon Umbra” is a pleasant diversion for an hour or two but doesn't really have anything to raise it above the crowd. 3 Stars.
