Even though Holly Webb writes touching animal stories for children, they certainly appeal to animal lovers of all ages. The adorable covers and sad titles draw you in, while the story within engages the mind and the heart. Another important point that makes this series a winner is that each story teaches a lesson on pet care and owner responsibility.

Buttons is a very curious puppy who longs to see, hear, taste, and touch the world around her. She loves her owner, Mr. Jenkins, but he soon falls ill and is no longer able to take her for long walks or play with her for the long, energetic play time Buttons needs. Will Mr. Jenkins' neighbor, Sophie, come up with a solution that is best for all involved? There are lessons for both Sophie and Mr. Jenkins about choosing an animal companion. Adopting a pet isn't just about providing a home for a lonely animal, but about providing the right home for both animal and owner.

Another great animal story from Holly Webb.

Different in tone to some of her other works but with the same heart. It had a different dynamic to previous books and it was told by two different viewpoints. I really enjoy these books and it is guaranteed that they leave a tear in my eyes and a lump in my throat.

Early elementary students looking for a sweet, gentle dog story (with parts of it told from the puppy's point of view!) should look no further. It's pretty fluffy, but that will probably fit the bill exactly for the type of reader who will pick this up.

Buttons the Runaway Puppy a cute, short, fiction chapter book about the adventures of a young puppy and the neighbor young girl who cares for him in hopes of one day being able to keep him for herself. I chose this book because of the lower reading level and cute simplicity of the story. I recommend this book for kids in 3rd grade.

Love the action and adventure in this fast-moving chapter book. Buttons is quite a handful and keeps the neighbors on their toes. I wasn't sure how this was going to work out but was delighted with where Buttons ended up. An exciting story all the way to the end!

I read this out loud to Lydia, she enjoyed it, they would be great beginning chapter books, probably a little too easy for Lydia now. The kids in the book were really nice to each other, which I like, the only thing I didnt love was that it would switch between the dogs point of view and the little girls and it was kind of confusing.

Perfect for 2nd/3rd graders excited about reading chapter books. Also great for animal lovers. Though the book is an early chapter book, there are illustrations, making it perfect for those kids transitioning from picture to chapter books.

Buttons's owner is elderly and grumpy. She really likes the neighbor children and sometimes runs away. One day, her owner needs help. It is a case of the boy who called wolf- Buttons needs to find someone to help, but they will all think she just ran away again.

I received a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Buttons is a chocolate Labrador puppy and like must young animals and children alike he is full of energy and a bit rambunctious. His elderly owner, Mr. Jenkins, uses a cane to walk and often has trouble walking the enegetic puppy that has yet to become accostomed to walking on a leash. When Buttons escapes his backyard Sophy finds him and returns him to Mr. Jenlins. When his owner falls on the stairs, Buttons goes in search of help. He thinks of Sophy and tries to find a way to get to her and make her understand.

.

A great book for all young readers, and to share by reading to those still learning to read. The illustrations, a beautiful addition to the story, help keep the readers and listeners attentive to the story. As a longer story it is one that you can enjoy over multiple nights of reading. Buttons, the Runaway Puppy is a great story to be enjoyed by all dog lovers, both young and the young at heart.

Holly Webb’s Buttons, the Runaway Puppy (Pet Rescue Adventures) appeals to children of all ages who love animals. My 5-year-old grandson enjoyed having it read to him. While it is a chapter book there are just enough illustrations to keep interest and help to visualize the story. A child moving into chapter books reading would be able to handle this on their own. The words are not too difficult or the story extremely long.

Buttons, the Runaway Puppy has several twists so this is a more complex story than it first appears. I thought this would be a case of the original owner of Buttons being a villain in the book but was glad to see that was not the case at all. Still children can naturally predict, be surprised and relate to the characters especially Sophie. Plus, seeing the events from Buttons perspective adds to the charm of this well told story. When finished reading, we hoped this is only the first of many adventures for Buttons and Sophia to have.

The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.

This is a cute puppy story that young readers will love. Buttons is a chocolate labrador puppy that has a lot of energy. When her owner, Mr. Jenkins, becomes ill he can no longer take him for the long walks he needs. When he ends up in the hospital, Sophie and her brothers Tom and Michael take care of him. They take him for long walks and teach him basic commands. When Mr. Jenkins returns home he realized that it is not fair to Buttons to live with an old man who can not take him for walks and let him burn off his energy. A cute story with short chapters to appeal to young readers. A great book for a late primary/early junior class library.

This was a bittersweet story to me. I grew up with wonderful dogs, but now find myself in the same position of the man in this story, not fit enough to care for a dog properly, especially a rambunctious puppy! (Cats are more my style these days!) To the rescue are two neighbor children, Sophie and her brothers, Tom and Michael. Alls well that ends well, I suppose. Still a tad sad. BUT I am sure some young dog lover will read this book and enjoy it! I received a free download from Net Galley, but it hasn't influenced my opinion.
