Several years ago, Kelly Hayes protected herself and her family from the alpha’s insane laws concerning humans in the pack by moving away from everyone she loved. But after losing her job, her home, and dealing with the unwanted attentions of a co-worker, Kelly returns home. And the new alpha? She plans to stay away from him, even though he makes her feel and want things she only dreamed about. Draven Grayson, the new alpha, is still dealing with the fallout from the old alpha’s insanity, and fending off the pack’s single females who want to be the alpha’s mate at any cost. All Draven wants is to rebuild the pack, and maybe find his mate. But the last thing he expects is a human mate. Ghosts from the past and problems with current and former pack members threaten to destroy the mating bonds between Kelly and Draven and their lives.
Rayne Rachels lives in Texas with her husband. In her free time she enjoys photography, reading, going to flea markets, and playing poker. Lisa's Bear is the first novella in her Bryant Station Curves series.
Yay! A new series by Rayne featuring wolves. Overall it was a good book. I really liked Kelly and Draven. They fit well together. There were some obstacles that needed to be tackled, such as power hungry she-wolves (I so wish Kelly had been able to really put the smackdown on them), a couple of stalkers for Kelly, and a sad past for Draven and those in the pack clinging to the old alpha's ways. I wish there had been more shift time. In a shifter book, I like it when they shift more often and I think it happened maybe twice other than sprouting if fur and extended canines. All in all it was a good book and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. There are definitely questions I need answered, such as why is Cooper's wolf damaged and will Moose finally get his mate?
However, on another note, the book needs a few beta readers or an editor to smooth out some issues. There were spelling and grammatical errors that in at least two places threw me out of the story where I had to reread and guess at what should have been said. There were also punctuation errors, such as missing quotations, commas, or even periods in some cases.
There was huge potential when I read the plot of the book. The follow-through left a lot to be desired. I am not one for instant-love connections, and this is one of those cases. This felt like a very rushed story with no real substance and in need of editing and not my cup of tea. There was no relationship building or really any conversation between the main characters and thats an important part of any romance book. I usually love paranormal romance but this is not a book I will be rereading.
So I guess an alpha to me is definitely not like this one. No control of his wolves no decisive decisions no examples to hammer the whole “in charge” apex predator Khan here. He let too much shite slide for an alpha IMO. The female was great in a way but in another I was like, is this the same chick??? Last but not least my all time least favorite part of any book iiiiiis…..a 25+ yo virgin who after sex is like, I am sorry I’ve no experience I hope it was good for you……wtf.
Quite often the insecurities of the main female character are overpowering storylines. That really is not the case here. I adored her self confidence, and I really liked she was not taking any crap.
