Interview with the author, Jack Probyn
Q - Can Jake Tanner be compared to any other crime thriller heroes out there?
A - You know, I wouldn't say Jake Tanner is like any of the other crime thriller heroes currently out there. He’s not like the Jack Reachers’ or the Alex Cross’ of these worlds. Sure, he has some similar characteristics, but Jake Tanner is very unique. Jake is a very heavily family-centered man. Anything and everything he does is done for them. But this does, in no way, mean that he is like Alex Cross who, readers familiar with James Patterson’s star, will know is a lean, mean, fighting machine. Instead, Jake Tanner is simply an everyday man. The one you see on the train to and from work everyday. That's what makes Detective Jake Tanner different.

Q - What makes the Detective Jake Tanner series special?
A - A mix of things. I wanted something that would “Wow!” readers, something that is going to make them think, “What if that ever happened to me?” And so I mirrored the Jake Tanner series on something I would like to read myself. The Jake Tanner terror thriller series has a bit of everything. But all of them feature the big question: “What if…” And, once you've read them, you’ll never feel the same way about certain things again.

Awesome thriller as an advanced chemist decides to release his new virus upon the world!! This story will draw you in quickly, as Jake is on forced vacation, dealing with having seen his partner killed and the murderer escape. But a quiet time with his family is Not in the cards!!
While Jake is dealing with his own problems, a scientist who has been abused is working to take down everyone he feels has wronged him! Only that extends to the human race!!!
A thrilling chase as Jake uses his smarts and wits to save his family and others as a terrorist rears his head. Jake questions the way things are done, by the terrorist response team and other police officers, making you understand the morals you must discard in an emergency situation...
A fascinating read, with in depth characters who you can feel and understand, complex situations and interesting plots, with fast-paced action that will have you gripping your seat long after you reach the end!!
I received an ARC from author Jack Probyn, who I thank for chilling read, and I give you my honest thoughts and feelings in this review inviting you to enter DC Jake Tanner's world!!

This is book two of the Jake Tanner Thriller series and follows on from the events of book one, Standstill, in which Jake was played by a pair of terrorists and used as a pawn in their game. They had rigged up three trains outside of London with explosives and threatened to blow up thousands of commuters, if he didn’t do as they told him. He feels guilty of all the people he couldn’t save and is suffering from a bad case of PTSD. He had the usual counselling from his work place, but has been hiding how badly it is still affecting him, from both his workplace colleagues and his own wife. One of the terrorists got away and months later, there has still not been any trace of him. Jake blames himself for that and all those he couldn’t save, especially his partner and friend Tyler, who died whilst saving Jakes life!

He has still been trying to investigate the whereabouts of this second terrorist, and is doing this instead of much of his current work, which is drastically reduced. He feels a bit of an outsider in his own department, mostly keeping himself away from other colleagues. He uses his position to get information on the terrorist investigation and gets caught out by his boss, Mamadou (known as Mam by his team). He gets told to take a week off and to see a new counsellor, who helped Mam and works in a somewhat unconventional manner. Jake spends a couple of days with his wife and two daughters, but still keeps everything bottled up and tells his wife he is fine, when he clearly isn’t.

His family and another they became close to in the previous book, the Toughs and their two children, arrange a meal at the Shard, London’s tallest building. This should be a fun experience with the kids and a lovely meal for both the families. What they don’t know is that they are walking into a biological terrorist nightmare. His family time has been cut short and even if he can get out of the dining room, where they are all being held along with a group from the World Health Organisation (WHO) holding their annual celebrations, then he would be leaving his family and friends behind. In the hands of a madman!

Floor 68 of the title is where a lot of the action takes place. Jake may end up as the only person who can take down this deranged biological terrorist who is threatening to set off an airborne viral pathogen and also wants to take his revenge against his former colleagues at WHO for sacking him. He has finalised work on a virus that everyone said couldn’t be made yet, a virus that would solve the problems of world overpopulation. Just not in a pleasant manner! Billions would either die or be left infertile, meaning mankind’s numbers would be vastly decreased in just generations.

Contact with the outside is limited and news of what is really happening doesn’t get through to the correct people very quickly. A wonderful series of mishaps between 999 calls, security for the Shard and the Counter Terrorism team makes the first notification of what is really happening get delayed and miscommunication is key! A complete blackout, lifts stuck between floors, sprinklers, broken glass and much, much more, all mix together to give you an adventure in a tower block, with only the stairs to gain access up or down. Jake finds matters even harder to manage than normal as lots of the aspects of the case are triggering his PTSD and leaving him with images of the last case and all those who died on his watch.

A terrorist who has exposed himself to loads of harmful chemicals in his quest for a viral solution and all these repeated experiments have finally left him with little life left and only revenge and infamy as his goals. He has no fear of death and holds no-one else’s life of any importance and finds it easy to kill and threaten to get what he wants. Add in possible bombs located somewhere in the building that could be another tool to spread the virus through the air and Jake has his work cut out. This is another cracking book and it is almost impossible to believe that the series is only two books in and it has been so explosive.

Terrorism is unfortunately a very real situation that many innocents are being dragged into in our modern world! This book and the previous one, deal with this deadly scourge to our world, in a realistic manner and also shows the effects on those in the public services and their families and friends. I received an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I received the ARC for this book with the first book in the series, so I have read both. Although they could be read as standalone stories, I enjoyed getting a bit of the characters background. This book does look back at the story from the first book, because Jake is still dealing with PTSD from the terrorist incident that happened five months ago. This leads him to a new therapist with some unconventional methods that I thought would be further explored than it was.
Due to the prior incident, Jake does some investigating that gets him in trouble, so he forced to take time away from the office. As part of his time with his family they plan an outing to have lunch with another family at the restaurant in the Shard, one of the tallest buildings in Europe. Unfortunately for Jake and his family, they pick the same day that the World Health Organization is meeting there. That is an issue is because Charlie, a former employee has planned revenge on both WHO and the world, as he plans to release a virus.
The bio terrorism plot is very interesting and I think the book flowed well. There is plenty of action as Jake tries to fight Charlie from releasing the virus and save his family. I enjoyed this book more than the last one and there is definite improvement from the last book. My main issue with the story is that releasing the virus in London is going to affect the whole world population!?!? Thought it was a very limited view of the world.

Thrilling action. Compelling characters. This story has it all. DC Jack Tanner is trying to recover from PTSD after seeing his partner killed and the terrorist who did the deed escaping. Forced into unwanted work leave, Jake is inadvertently drawn into a tangled web of personal relationships and intrigue. A scientist whose family abused him has a vendetta against his former organization and all of humanity, and intends to execute a horrendous plan against the people whom he holds accountable. Jake and a friend take their families out for a fine dining experience at one of London's fanciest restaurants and the thrills begin. A web of relationships begins to unravel, playing out both in the building and at the terrorist response force headquarters. Jake must use his wits, training, experience, and a few unprepared by-standers to attempt to save his family. As the story plays out, Jake must examine his core beliefs and questions the morality of the methods for resolving the situation. This exploration of morality adde some depth to my reading experience. The reader must make judgements about Jake's thoughts and actions as well as those of the antagonist and the people involved in the story. A thought-provoking story line that adds to the story.

Note: The author provided this book to me a an ARC and I am freely providing this review.

Want an action packed book that will keep yo n the edge of your seat. Maybe heart speed up a bit. This a book to read for that. Jake seems to handle the crisis that he inadvertently get roped into.

Primal survival-ism, interesting concept. Could this be hat is happening in the world today. Are we seeing the start of that? Nature taking care of herself?

Science can be a wonderful thing. But sometimes scientists get carried away. They forget to look at all the aspects of what they are doing. charlie has forgotten some of this. he did not consider mutations, epigenetics, puberty, and the right to play god. Would love to have a discussion about his theory and this . Need to find my genetics professor, lol.

I gave it only four stars because some point, I caught myself thinking: was this book ever going to end. That this book was too long. I feel I should not think that about a book I am enjoying.

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC copy.

When someone who is brilliant turns towards darkness and vengeance, the results are lethal.

Lost friends, family and co-workers haunt the investigations and investigators into current threats. More looms on the horizon.

Is an investigator paranoid, or does he really just more readily perceive some threats others cannot or will not see?

Sadly, it is not humanly possible to react in time to every perceived threat, and loss weighs heavy on Jake.

Crushing drama, action and terror with more ahead.

I jumped on this book because I have enjoyed the other Jake Tanner stories. I have to say this is the best so far. The suspense just keeps growing as Jake has to deal with his own PTSD, yet jump back into action to protect both his family and the world. The writing shows a level of maturity that holds the reader in suspense as much information flows. The main characters are multi-dimensional and easy to relate to. The mad scientist is actually believable which adds to the drama of the story.

Jake Tanner is on vacation with his family. A scientist with a gun takes a restaurant full of people hostage. Charlie Paxman is a scientist with a grudge against his former co workers. He had a view that there are too many people in the world. His plan is to release a virus he created into the air to kill as many people as the virus will allow. This novel will maintain your interest throughout. There is a thrilling conclusion that will surprise you.

FLOOR 68 is the second novel in the Jake Tanner terror thriller series. Tanner is a rather unusual "hero," vulnerable but determined, suffering from PTSD yet very enclosed about it, fully committed to tracking the evil terrorist responsible for the deaths of his mother-in-law and partners as well as many others. His personality is a nice change from "perfect" protagonists and refreshingly realistic.

Jake Tanner, the cop's cop!!! Always a step ahead, but when his family become threatened he is forced to up his game.

Betrayal, intrigue, airborne poison, an egotistical (mad) scientist, and friends and family in danger.

This novel has it all and will keep you on the edge of your seat for the duration.

Not my first read of this author, and I know it won't be my last.

I can't speak highly enough of this book. Get your copy now and dive in!!!
