An exceptionally funy book written by a very competent author. he has a great work ethic, according to an interview on The Drunken Odyssey and it certainly shows.
Don't come into this expecting high literature, but the gaga are well done, the characters at least accurate if a little sketchy, and the premise—that a small island in Lake Huron becomes an independent state—is great if you like the movie Passport to Pimlico and the Grand Fenwick series.
The style and structure owe a lot to movies, so I hope this can be made into a movie one day.

Hilarious, well written and completely entertaining
This book made me laugh out loud numerous times. It’s funny because the premise (and related details) are so outlandishly ridiculous, and yet completely believable. The bureaucracy, political positioning and media flurry will have you shaking your head and holding your sides. I encourage you to read the tale of this fictionalized tale of Mackinac Island, a self-governing society, filled with a colorful cast of characters. I can’t wait to visit Mackinac Island again to envision it in this befuddling scenario!

this book had a great use of alternate history and comedy, it did everything that I was hoping for in the description. The characters were what I was looking for and were written so well. Erik Deckers has a great writing style and it left me looking forward to more.

Hilarious! The premise, plot, and characters had me snickering and laughing out loud from beginning to end. Intelligent, timely, and well-written, the story engaged me and kept me asking, “What next?” I hated putting the book down and felt relieved to pick it back up and see what my friend Pete (the main character) was doing. I miss him and wonder what he’s up to now.

An excellent novel. I've been trying to think how to describe it, since it's very different than most novels. Maybe, "if Tom Clancy and Jerry Seinfeld cowrote a novel." You never know what's going to happen next. I recommend it if you have a sense of humor.
