Jake Larson is good at everything…except relationships. When his marriage ends, it leaves the firefighter with doubts he’s never experienced before. Now he’s determined to protect his crushed heart the only way he knows how: avoid falling in love at all costs. And thanks to his friend Ezra, Jake is more than content to fill the hole in his life with a newfound faith in Christ and the hope for a brighter—if single—future.
Renee Buchanan is one of the best interior designers Colorado has to offer, and she knows it. She’s young, skilled, and confident…except when she’s around Jake Larson. Every time Jake steps into a room, her carefully crafted professionalism crumbles, and she finds herself lost. And that’s a problem when Jake hires Renee to decorate his fixer-upper of a home. Not only is Jake her brother’s best friend, he’s also the gentleman of her dreams. And no matter how determined she is to make this the well-designed house of her career, and how thick the walls around Jake’s heart are, something new sizzles up between them, something they can’t help but be drawn toward.
As they work together to chip away at the walls of both Jake’s house and his heart, Jake is faced with a life-changing decision: let himself fall for his best friend’s beautiful sister, or stay single but keep his friendship intact. Either way, Jake knows he must let go of his past before he can grab hold of the future…or else risk losing the second chance he desperately needs. Something Right is a sweet interracial romance between a damaged firefighter and the interior designer determined to make him whole again. Something Right is the second book in the standalone in series; The Buchanans If you want to read them in order; Book 1- First Site Book 2- Something Right
I'd love to give this book more than 5 stars!! The characters are enjoyable and I love the firefighters banter as they laugh and joke with each other. I also love they way they stand up for each other and support each other especially if one of their own is down! In my opinion, this makes a great team and it shows teamwork! Sadly though and especially at my work place there is no such thing as teamwork. I always say it's best to start out as friends. That's the best kind of relationship and then if it's meant to be a much more sweeter thang comes out if it. I love this author's writing style. She has the ability to make you feel like you are right along with these guys doing their job and laughing with them. Of course Jake is my favorite person in the whole story. Kind, gentle and caring he's the type that has your back no matter what situation someone may be in. He's pretty special in my book. I strongly recommend this book!! It was so good and I cried when I finished it. I didn't want to say Goodbye but hey, we can always reread it again and check in on our favorite people right? I received a complimentary copy of this book with no compensations received
Oh, my goodness!! This was a great read!!!! It had me from the first page!! I even stayed up late a couple of nights reading, since I didn't get much reading time in during the day!! I love the way Rose kept the faith aspect throughout the book, and that Renee would sometimes take the lead to pray, especially since she's been a Christian longer than Jake, and I love that it showed both of them still showing that we all have struggles with faith, no matter how long we've walked with God, and that He'll help us overcome. I did find a couple of words in the book objectionable; however, after e-mailing the author, those should be taken care of, which is why I'm giving five stars. Otherwise, it would have been way less!! They weren't words I'd expect to find in Christian Fiction, and this book really is a great book!! You need to add this to you TBR stack!!!
I was received an advanced copy of this book. I was not required to review, and all of this is my opinion.
Jake and Renee had me from the early chapters and I found myself rooting for them right away. I love a good friends-to-lovers story and may or may not have actually yelled at the book a time or two, telling the characters to wake up and realize they were meant to be. Their love for each other was shown clearly and realistically in the story, as were the struggles each had as they found their way together. The side characters and stories helped to flesh out the book and I'm hoping to see a couple of them get their own stories someday.
This story focuses on a man and a woman who are best friends; but who begin to see each other as more than friends. But is it worth risking a great friendship to explore the possibility of more? My favorite quote is in chapter 18: would friendship be enough, or would he live to regret not admitting his feelings for her? The main character is Jake who who is best friends with a brother and sister. When he begins to see Ezra’s sister, Renee, he worries that pursuing a romantic relationship with Renee not only could destroy their friendship but could destroy his friendship with her brother as well. Is the risk worth it. You will have to get a copy to find out.
I love how this story pursues several other key themes including: the need to let go of the past so we can move into our future, the importance of family, a day in the life of a firefighter, the importance of prayer in key decisions, how life’s twists and turns are sometimes to get us to where we need to be, and and the courage to stand up for those you love.
Ok, this book was the cutest! Such a good contemporary novel. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a contemporary story, and I forgot how much I love it! This book was so so good. I spent the weekend reading it and it was very relaxing. I loved the storyline and characters, and I couldn’t wait to see how it would all play out. I’ve read one other book by this author and she is very talented! She has a bright future with the genre. Definitely recommend this!
Ahh, I loved this so much! I review books so high but it’s because I’m finding the best ones out there! I felt like I was watching a cute movie while reading this and I loved it. I loved the plot and how everything fell into place. Everything happened at perfect timing. This author has a beautiful writing style. I loved it so much and how it beautifully flowed with the story. Highly recommend this!
Enjoyable romance. Although it's part of a series one doesn't have to read others to understand and enjoy this book. Friends falling in love with each other but baggage, friendships, and protective brothers get in the way.
This started out a little slow for me, but it got better. I've found that in Rose Fresquez's books, she ties up the loose ends. She shows the good and the not so good of the characters and how when they seek the Lord, He helps them out. Good book!
I truly loved reading another Christian romantic book by this author! She makes it so realistic, and it completely captures your attention. Once I start reading one of her novels, it very difficult to put it down....it’s apparent that she puts much effort in preparing the roles of her characters!
This story is what brought me to love the Buchanan Family. Since reading this and other books in the series, I really want to be invited to one of their Sunday luncheons. The relationship between Jake and Renee was believable. It was so fun to see the chemistry between them grow as they each find a place they can share their feelings with each other. Jake proclaims more than once he does not want to burden Renee with his baggage, but that is the purpose of relationships; build and help each other to find strength together. This is a powerful story of love, forgiveness, and working together to build something better than they could each be alone. I appreciate reading each one of Rose's books because she is very willing to share her faith through her characters. I am always blessed by reading her books. I highly recommend this to anyone that loves a sweet, clean, Christian romance.
I really enjoyed this story about two people of faith growing to love each other. I also appreciated that there were some serious hurdles they had to overcome. The only thing that really bothered me were a couple of oddly worded sentences that pulled me out of the moment. Other than that, the plot was interesting and entertaining. There were moments I smiled and I was even brought to tears at one point. So if you like a good story of faith and romance in a contemporary setting, you may want to give this book a try.
Divorced firefighter Jake Larson is interested in his best friend’s sister, Renee Buchanan, but is afraid of what his friend will think. As an interior designer she’s helping to redecorate the house he bought and they are in close contact through that. When they both realize they are interested in each other, they have to find a way to tell her family. A tender love story with elements of faith, love and commitment.
I really enjoyed this book. I don't think I got into it the best because I kept having to stop and start it several times. If this crazy time hadn't happened and I could just read it I think I would have enjoyed it more. I loved the end though. Great storyline great, love this family series. Also, this was a new author for me with her second book. I will look into more of her.
Jake and Renee both had a lot to learn. Jake learned that the baggage from his past has been forgiven by the Lord Jesus Christ. I think Renee may have learned that there's a time to keep silent and a time to speak. They both learned that God's plan may not be what it seems, but it is always best. Very well done!!!
A cute book! I loved watching Jake and Renee’s relationship develop from best friends to something more. They had a sweet relationship. It was fun to see characters from book one in the series, First Site. There were quite a few typos/grammatical errors and some inconsistencies/unnecessary details that detracted from the main story. Other than that I loved this book.
Wow! What a story! Jake is Renee's brother's best friend. Secretly Renee has crushed on Jake for the past 3 years, but the man just doesn't seem to notice. . .until he does. And then what?? Lots of family drama (including Jake's ex), fun, twists and turns, and surprises in this fun clean read. I LOVED it! Can't wait to read the next book in this series!
I really appreciated the gradual character development and that there wasn’t such a fast paced effort to marry them off. I loved the side stories of their careers and their families and friendships. Their faith was woven very naturally into the story. I look forward to more books by Rose Fresquez.
The book was an inspiration to me to remind me of changing lifestyles and change is growth. The characters are endearing and well created. Characters surrounding them are known and some new. There was many frightful situations, the characters always prayed and had a scripture, loved it!
I was really hoping Jake and Renee would get together. And I’m thankful that Ezra‘s reaction wasn’t drawn out. I read another book recently where a best friend falls in love with a little sister and the big brother’s negativity was over the top and lasted for ever. It almost ruined the book for me.
Not a bad story, but the writing is choppy, drawn out, and repetitive. Like, I think Jake’s reasons for not perusing a relationship with Renee was given in about every chapter. It got annoying. I lost interest in the story and just wanted it to end already...which it took forever to do.
Very interesting book with a LOT of other stories referred to that would be great to read. Clean romance, awful backstory, trauma mentioned and scary situations. A very good read. Christian references but not overwhelming. Really enjoyed.
She’s had a crush on him for 3 years. He’s her brothers best friend and thinks she’s off limits. But there’s something about her ad being her best friend isn’t enough anymore.
Challenges of many varieties: unrequited love, divorce, past family problems, how to move forward, close friendships, family relationships are some of the situations the characters deal with.
Jake had run from his past and found acceptance with Ezra's family. Learning to deal with his past and his feelings for Ezra's sister had him fearful of losing the acceptance of the family. Great new author for me.
Renee and Jake are each scared of their feelings. She is Ezra younger sister and he is Ezra partner. They are not sure how he will take it. Can they make him believe they care for each other? Can they believe in each other?
I’ve read this backward, I’m about to read book one. I loved books 2 and 3, so I figure I’ll love book 1. I have family who live in Parker, CO, so I love reading about areas I know and you are doing a Wonderful job describing them!!
