He has witnessed the dark side of humanity before, but an international drug cartel's plans take him to a place where the lines between good and evil disappear. As Border Patrol and DEA agents increase pressure on the Los Salvajes cartel, their leader, Juan "Bébé" Elizondo, strikes a deal that promises to circumvent the Feds and increase the flow of narcotics to the north. The plan is intricate and expensive, but with a billion dollars of cocaine at stake, there is no stopping Los Salvajes —The Savages. A tip from a criminal informant brings Sole and his partner Randall Travis into the hunt. Their investigation takes them into the heart of Atlanta's criminal underworld and leads to the door of one of the state's most powerful men. Working with the Feds, they close in, but not before, Elizondo unleashes his most trusted lieutenant, Alejandro Garza, a man who kills without passion or remorse. The torrent of blood and violence Garza brings leaves John Sole with one option ... justice.

With that out of the way, let's begin. This is the blah, blah, blah section. You know the author’s “glory page” where he gets to tell you grandiose things about himself and the deeper meaning of his work. Whatever.
I write books. Seriously, that's what I get to do every day. It's great.
I have been fortunate to author some that have achieved bestseller status, including The Hunters Series of mystery suspense thrillers. It took me a lot of years to get to that point, but I wouldn't trade any of them for a minute. I love writing books for you and the journey that brought me here.
I am a native of the south, Georgia specifically. I spent much of my life there, but I have lived in many other places as well. We moved a lot when I was young. Eventually, we ended up back in Georgia in my teens where I finished school and went to work.
I wanted to write from an early age. A really long time ago, when I was still a young police officer in Georgia, I was writing short stories in my spare time and sending them off to magazines. One day I received one back in the mail.
Life Happened
Attached to it was a nice handwritten letter from an editor (this was long before the days of email and texts). The story manuscript was folded and smudged, and there were coffee cup rings on the edges of a couple of pages, which told me they had actually read it, maybe discussed it around an editorial table, or just used it to sop up the coffee.
In her letter, the editor said a lot of things that I don't remember, but it was not the usual form letter that I was accustomed to receiving. It was original and personal.
She said they liked my story, had strongly considered it for publication, but that it wasn't quite believable. Disappointed as I was, I was struck by her last words to me..."Don't stop writing. You're good at this. We almost bought this one."
I remember staring at that a long time. Then I folded it up and tucked it in a file and...stopped writing.
I wish I could tell you a different story, but I can't. I stopped writing for many years.
There were lots of reasons. Yes, I was disappointed, but the letter that should have encouraged me not to give up was forgotten.
Life happened. Dreams of writing were pushed aside by other things...important things.
Mostly I needed money for my young family. In the 1970s, police officers in Georgia were not paid a lot even by the standards of the day. I worked part-time jobs whenever I wasn't working at the police department. Many weeks I had no days off at all.
I'm not unhappy that I did my best to take care of my family. It was the right thing to do and working for them was the joy of my life.
Children grew up; then grandchildren came along. More life happened.
Then...The Internet Appeared
Out of the blue, this thing called the internet appeared and guess what. I was at a point in life when I didn't need to work part-time jobs every spare minute of the day. I could write again.
It's different these days. I can publish a book whether I convince an agent or editor to read it or not. I am an independent writer/publisher, an “Indie.”
It’s a partnership between us, writer and reader, and it's a marvelous thing.
Don't be a Follower -- Make Your Dream Real
It took many years to get here. Life is like that, with lots of twists and turns and surprises. I like it that way.
Now, I write every day, so here's my parting advice. Don’t follow your dreams. Followers get nowhere except up the backside of the person in front.
My first issue with this story is that it didn't have a conclusive ending. My second issue with it was the way it jumps around in time to give you a backstory while you're immersed in the present story. And last but not least, the editing is really lacking. Commas where there shouldn't be commas create hiccups in an otherwise flowing text. The story is good, if a tad long-winded in places, and the ending does leave you wanting to read on.
It was an enjoyable read even if a bit predictable.
John Sole is a detective who along with his partner, Travis, have a criminal informant, Luis, that they pressured into providing some juicy usable information or they might just inform the DEA that he is no longer a useful informant and let the law take its course.
Luis can’t afford to be taken down so he puts himself in danger and finds out that a big deal looks like happening and provides information as to what he knows about it.
After further investigation by Sole and Travis they realise it does look like a big deal that could involve Mexican drugs cartel and a serving US Senator. Sole and Travis get the relevant US official departments involved and a plan is hatched to investigate in depth. The information proves to be true and even though Sole and Travis are not narcotics police they stay involved in the case, the odd bit is that they appear to have nothing else to do.
The authorities get involved tracing and following the potential perpetrators.
I will not spoil the story or outcome but the Mexican drug lords are pure evil and will stop at nothing to get their drugs onto the streets in the USA. They are devoid of human emotion.
I like John Sole and have a number of books in the series to read after this one so I’m quite looking forward to reading how he gets on in the aftermath of this big case. I am sure if you read this book you too will acquire further books in the series like I have. The story is gripping and very well put together but easy to read at the same time despite some very nasty passages to read through.
If you enjoy reading police procedurals with a strong influence of menacing violence, you’ll enjoy this book. The key element of this story is the two Atlanta, Georgia police department investigators, from the Major Crimes unit, uncovering a plot by a local criminal gang to import cocaine into Georgia. John Sole and his partner Randy Travis are the two primary police investigators working for the Atlanta PD. The reader is provided essential details about these two characters background and abilities. Initially the police investigators don’t understand who is planning to export cocaine into Georgia and just how ruthless that Drug Cartel can be. The excellent plot details the police investigation that brings you to the discovery of a potential major new source of cocaine in Georgia. Interesting nuts and bolts police work of this discovery and investigation of the local criminals involved moves the story along. The police then take steps to halt the distribution of cocaine and make appropriate arrests of the local criminal gang members. At this point, the police don’t know which, if any criminal gang in Mexico is involved. That Mexican Drug Cartel decides to seek vengeance when their very profitable criminal enterprise is disrupted. That’s when menace and violence take center stage in this story. Interesting, well defined and realistic characters abound in this story. The dialogue is realistic and useful in creating character personalities. All in all, this is a very good book and it just the first book in the author’s series that features John Sole.
This is an enjoyable book to easily read as the author style is accommodating for readers however there are certain taboos which he should terminate.the definition of a book is a publication with an end that should be pleasing or dramatic and I for one was angry that having as I thought reached the end i was surprised and somewhat disappointed that commercial interests take preference to reader satisfaction abruptly informing the reader that the end was in book two. Back been aware i would never have started reading this book completion is a policy instilled in many readers in other aspects of their life . Likewise the author an ex policeman who ignores this fact I am not a supporter of one line Mexican interpretations since the book is in English it is superfluous America encounters this daily wit phone calls that dictate "for English press one". To access our national language. We live in political times a fact that cannot be ignored
irst in series - an exceptionally fast read with well developed characters that you immediately identify with. I
In the two months since Russia invaded Ukraine, the silence — and even acquiescence — of the Russian elite has started to fray.
Even as opinion polls report overwhelming public support for the military campaign, amid pervasive state propaganda and new laws outlawing criticism of the war, cracks are starting to show. The dividing lines among factions of the Russian economic elite are becoming more marked, and some of the tycoons — especially those who made their fortunes before President Vladimir Putin came to power — have begun, tentatively, to speak.
This is a story that is right up there with his Hunter Series. The story characters were well written and the amount of action within the story was immense.
It was interesting how John Solo and his partner Randall Travis work at stopping Drugs from coming into the U.S. The location action made you feel that you were right there and kept your interest throughout the entire story.
The interaction between the characters on John's team had you rooting for the good guys. The extreme measures that the Cartel was willing to handle showed how violent any interference would be handled.
I recommend this book and look forward to more action that John Solo will be involved in.
A GT. Atlanta, GA Police Mystery/Suspense Action Adventure (SS) (SJB - 1)
GT . has penned an Atlanta, GA police mystery of suspense, action and adventure, titled "Sole Survivor", which begins with a young man enter the USMC, then getting out and going to work with the Atlanta police force as a Detective. He is placed on the murder squad with a partner. One evening his partner is murder as is his family, a wife and two small children, which sends him on a trail of revenge with a certain cartel in Mexico. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Sole Survivor is a captivating new thriller and the first book in Glen Trust's new Sole Justice Series. Glen Trust is a new author to me and I can certainly see why he is a Best Selling Author! This is one of those novels where you are going to have to hang on to your seat. Plan your reading time as you are going to have a hard time setting this novel down. Each has something new that jumps out at you and knocks the breath right out of you. I can not wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.
A good and exciting cop story. A battle between good and the evil, where the innocent pay the price.
John Sole came back from the war as damaged goods as he sees it but never underestimate the love of a good woman. Now thanks to his wife Shaye his family and partner and best friend at the Georgia Special Crimes Unit. John's partner is a black man named Randy Travis and together they are the perfect team until this case and though they're successful the price paid sets Sole on the path of revenge and justice.
Yet another author who does not know the difference between a "series" and a "serial"! The former consists of a number of episodes, that do not require the next episode to provide answers; the latter ends each episode with a "cliffhanger" that requires reading/watching the next episode in order to find answers. One star dropped because this is a serial. The other star is dropped because of the unnecessary use of blasphemy - as ever, only in a Christian context! I was intrigued by a helicopter racing along a runway before taking off! That isn't like any helicopter of which I have heard!
This is the first time I've read this authors work, but it certainly won't be the last. The story draws you in from the beginning, keeping you engaged and intrigued until the very end, only to want more. It's an intense, complex, and suspenseful story with heartbreaking situations that you definitely don't want to miss. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
This is definitely not a book for everyone. There is a lot of violence and killing all because of drugs essentially.
John Sole had a hard life--after a stint in the Marines he became a policeman. He and his partner heard from an informant that something big was going to go down. It certainly did!! John became the sole survivor after all is said and done--But for how long? Maybe the next in this series will let us know.
The author did a good job putting the book together. It has well developed characters, a very nice flow to the story and gives a good idea on how drug runners set up flow lines into the states. The ending wasn’t complete but better than some authors do so you have to buy the next book to get some showing of how the series is going. Sole is a good character that shows he has depth for growth. The book is well worth reading. Read and enjoy.
This is an engrossing and fast paced story that follows a detective trying to bring justice to an increasingly complex mystery brought about by a cartel smuggling drugs into this country. The characters are well described and believable as are the various settings for the plot ranging from desert to ocean.
This is one of the better detective/revenge novels I think I've ever read. I'm glad I stumbled upon this author. (In my opinion) this book was extremely well written and the characters had amazing depth. This book had it all: laughter, tears, action, revenge and bodies. I also think it showed that life is more gray than black and white.
Excluding the F word being used, was a powerful book dealing with something that is relevant to today's world (drug trafficking) and a possible connection to high up politicians. The characters were believable and the solutions sounded like what might happen in the real world. Wondering where the next novel in the series will take us.
I don’t usually read these kind of books, good cop-drug cartels, but this book is was fabulous. I was expecting things to happen just as they did in the book but the author made all the characters and events descriptive and interesting. If these books are your kind of genre then do read this book.
Totally enjoyed this book. The author makes his characters come to life, seeing the evil, the madness, the desperation on one side. On the side other you see determination, dedication, pride and pain. Atlanta detectives get a hint of something big in the works involving drugs. They uncover the plot ending with dire results. A very good read.
John Sole and his partner, Randy Travis are police detectives in the major crimes unit. Their CI is pressured to come up with information regarding criminal activity. They never thought they would bag a senator! Drugs and the Mexican cartel are involved. You won’t believe the ending! A must read!
I thought this might be a good book you will be excited to know this was a great book if you like good books I guarantee you will love this one ! Green Trust is a great writer I checked the other books he has wrote and I started buying them in 20017 I couldn't believe that!
Really enjoyed this story and good to get background on there characters who are good . The narrative with Soles family and children came to life as real people which stuck me hard with what happened to them and Travis . Really good real as to how Sole will get his come back against the people responsible for there needless deaths .
The first of a series, and the first I have read by this author. This reads more like an introductory session than a full-fledged book in itself. I have it on the Police Procedural shelf but, I think the following books will belong on the Thriller shelf.
When a book is one in a series the writer likes to end in an indecisive manner to Interest the reader in the next book. This leads to inconclusive endings which are not satisfying.
Author crafted a recommended read that simply explores the book title. Reader moves along the investigation of a powerful drug cartel U.S. infiltration to an inevitable ending.
I really enjoyed this book, there wasn't a single dull moment the entire thing I can't wait for book 2. I consume thriller novels like a crack addict consumes cocaine no pun intended. This series is extremely addictive
I think the Book would have been much Better with 100 Less pages. It is often slow and stagnant. A Top Editor would have been able to make this Book Flow and be more Interesting.
