"I'm not going out there," declares the little boy in this hilarious, rhyming story. But what is frightening him? It's not the dragon breathing smoke in the living room. Or the ghost snacking on toast and chocolate in the kitchen. The witches in the bathroom are too busy washing their dirty underwear to bother anyone. And the monsters performing ballet exercises in the bedroom aren't at all terrifying. But something in the house is very scary. And it's coming this way . . . A perfect read-it-aloud book which children will beg to hear again and again.
I stumbled across a YouTube video of Richard Armitage reading this for CBeebies - oh, the joy of watching a young Thorin Oakenshield talk about how much he loves dragons! ;-)
This was read today at story session at the library and the class of special needs kids loved it. One child who can always pick the ending was stumped with this one, and another child who is usually fairly subdued was very excited.
This book was so good! It would be a good book to read to older or younger students, it was funny and cute and had beautiful pictures. This could also be a book that you read to your kids because it is about a little boy teasing his sister then hide from her. This would be a book i would recommend to everyone.
Really good book. A lot of thing children are typically scared of however with a twist at the end. Loved the rhymes in this book, made it really fun to read out loud to children.
This book fabulous rhyming story is hilarious. It has my daughter (21), and I in stitches, especially the unexpected twist at the end. We had to read it again.
I found this to be a great read! I can definitely see this book being read to a student who may not be getting much sleep at night and telling his teacher because he is afraid of something in his room. This book truly shows the imagination of students of what they feel is "hiding" in their rooms, but usually turns out to simply be a figment of their imagination. Great book for students who are scared and for those who are not as at one time or another, we have all seen something quite scary in our rooms!
Our narrator is currently cowering under his bed and absolutely, positively, not going to dare going out! Something has him spooked. But what could it be? He's not afraid of the dragon, the ghost, the witches, or even the monsters creeping around his house,...so what could drive him under his bed tonight?
When you find out, you'll laugh, and agree with his decision to stay put.
I have sort of guess the twist at the end but not quite exactly the right answer. It gives me laugh every time! I'm a adult and even I love this brilliant book! It should be very good for all children! Highly recommend it!
You can also find Richard Armitage reading this story on YouTube for CBeebies Bedtime Hour.
What makes this little boy so nervous? I'm not going to spoil it here, but I would be afraid too. I love the rhyming and the pictures in this book, and kids love it too. When I read it at story time, the kids were laughing aloud.
Cute story. With all the things that could scare a little guy, the surprise at the end is just what is so scary that makes the main character stay under his bed. Fun language, the meter bobbles only occasionally, and the finish is just right.
